:00:13. > :00:15.Thai Police have confirmed to the BBC that a man murdered

:00:16. > :00:18.on a Thai beach was David Mhller ` a 24`year`old Jerseyman.

:00:19. > :00:21.He was killed alongside Hannah Witheridge,

:00:22. > :00:28.Their bodies were found this morning on the island of Koh Tao.

:00:29. > :00:30.The bodies of David Miller and 23`year`old Hannah Withdridge

:00:31. > :00:33.were found on a beach on the small island of Koh Tao

:00:34. > :00:40.The Foreign Office haven't officially released the namd of Mr

:00:41. > :00:43.Miller, but it's believed hd was a Victoria College student in the late

:00:44. > :00:46.2000s and, later, Leeds University ` where he'd recently graduatdd from.

:00:47. > :00:49.It's believed he'd had been travelling in Thailand

:00:50. > :00:55.Weeks before arriving in Asha, Mr Miller wrote on his Facebook page

:00:56. > :01:04.Meanwhile, friends in Jersex have been paying tribute on soci`l media,

:01:05. > :01:06.saying he was ?gifted with intelligence and wit

:01:07. > :01:22.Koh Tao is in southern Thailand and is well known for diving holidays `

:01:23. > :01:27.11 British nationals have bden murdered in Thailand

:01:28. > :01:30.in the last five years, according to the Foreign Office

:01:31. > :01:40.and the hunt is now on to fhnd who killed a Jerseyman therd.

:01:41. > :01:52.Meanwhile, Jersey's Chief Mhnister Senator Ian Gorst said:

:01:53. > :01:56.There are still unconfirmed reports that Thai Police want to interview

:01:57. > :01:59.a British man in connection with the murddrs.

:02:00. > :02:01.The BBC's Jonanthan Head is in the Thai capital Bangkok

:02:02. > :02:07.and says the police have a reputation for being efficient.

:02:08. > :02:12.The police themselves say they believe it will be pretty qtick

:02:13. > :02:17.They said they had sealed the island. I have to say, some of the

:02:18. > :02:20.hotel owners on Koh Tao told me boats were going to and frol the

:02:21. > :02:24.island, taking people off it, for a lot of the day, so th`t block

:02:25. > :02:26.didn't last for very long, so we will have to see whether they

:02:27. > :02:30.catch who is responsible. It is a small island, relathvely

:02:31. > :02:33.small numbers of people staxing there. They are going through,

:02:34. > :02:35.questioning the hotel owners, the bars near where the bodhes were

:02:36. > :02:38.found. I have to say, from experience, with

:02:39. > :02:49.these sorts of crimes Thai policing to be pretty dfficient

:02:50. > :02:52.at finding a culprit and thdy know the damage to tourism when something

:02:53. > :02:55.like this happens and they will put a lot of

:02:56. > :02:57.resources in and the policelen will be working very hard to try

:02:58. > :02:58.and get a result and find out who was

:02:59. > :03:02.responsible for this. A new project has been launched to

:03:03. > :03:05.help ensure children in Guernsey who have a parent in prison don t

:03:06. > :03:07.follow in their footsteps. The charity Barnardos says there's

:03:08. > :03:09.a high chance of them ending up offending,

:03:10. > :03:12.so they want to offer them support. They're paying ?10,000 for ` project

:03:13. > :03:16.worker to stop that from happening. Around 50 children

:03:17. > :03:29.in Guernsey have a parent in jail. the statistics are so strong and so

:03:30. > :03:33.powerful and yet collectively, across all of our professional

:03:34. > :03:34.agencies in the voluntary sdctor, we haven't really recognised this until

:03:35. > :03:35.this point, really. A new oncology unit is set to open

:03:36. > :03:38.at Jersey's General hospital tomorrow, meaning fewer isl`nders

:03:39. > :03:41.will have to travel to the TK It's claimed the department `

:03:42. > :03:45.which has cost ?3 million to build ` will also shorten waiting thmes

:03:46. > :03:46.for chemotherapy. Around 60 patients will

:03:47. > :04:07.use this unit every week. Patient numbers have been

:04:08. > :04:09.increasing, and we now have the capacity to treat those pathents

:04:10. > :04:10.going the treatment, we havd space for them.

:04:11. > :04:14.Motorists in Guernsey face lonths of delays as the Forest Road is dug up

:04:15. > :04:16.It means people will face longer journeys

:04:17. > :04:27.Ripping up the roads to upgrade the telecoms infrastructure.

:04:28. > :04:30.While cyclists and pedestri`ns may be able to get through,

:04:31. > :04:35.for motor vehicles it's a world of closed roads and diversions.

:04:36. > :04:39.Behind me is the main road from St Peter Port to Guernsey airport and

:04:40. > :04:43.it is closed at the moment, but it is not just the airport affdcted.

:04:44. > :04:46.There are businesses all up and down this road who have concerns

:04:47. > :04:51.This shop close to the airport faces weeks of lost business.

:04:52. > :04:54.Although the tills were still ringing today, its manager says

:04:55. > :04:59.he's worried about the effect the roadworks will have on his sales.

:05:00. > :05:03.Not an ideal start to the working week. Today hasn't been too bad

:05:04. > :05:09.because at the moment, people coming out of town can get directlx to us

:05:10. > :05:15.but in two and a half weeks, that will change. It is one of those

:05:16. > :05:20.things where you expect to lose business and you just adjust to it.

:05:21. > :05:22.This is the reason the roads are being dug up.

:05:23. > :05:25.Sure and JT are installing ducting to enable them to l`y

:05:26. > :05:32.JT says a bit of short term pain will bring long term g`in.

:05:33. > :05:38.The future of digital technology is reliable delivery to the customer,

:05:39. > :05:42.the end user. Without our fhbre optics in the ground, we won't be

:05:43. > :05:47.able to provide those services, so for a short`term interruption on

:05:48. > :05:50.daily lives, we get some long`term benefits that will be around

:05:51. > :05:57.These men will be scarring the tarmac for the next two months,

:05:58. > :05:59.so the advice for motorists is to give yotrself

:06:00. > :06:08.much more time for journeys in the area.

:06:09. > :06:15.That is the news, I will le`ve you with the weather.

:06:16. > :06:19.Hello, good evening. After ` lovely weekend, a bit of a change this

:06:20. > :06:22.week, there is the threat of more clout and some showers turnhng up at

:06:23. > :06:27.the main story is the weathdr is getting even warmer this wedk. We

:06:28. > :06:31.may have 24 degrees tomorrow. So a warm day, patchy cloud throtgh the

:06:32. > :06:36.morning and some sunshine in the afternoon. If there is any lissed,

:06:37. > :06:42.it'll be fairly shallow overnight but more clout comes out of a,

:06:43. > :06:50.across into France, there could be more showers in Normandy ``` bit

:06:51. > :06:53.more cloud comes our way. Temperatures get a head start

:06:54. > :06:59.tomorrow and after some patchy low cloud clears, it will be a fine and

:07:00. > :07:01.dry day and a very warm one for September, typical temperattres on

:07:02. > :07:09.the larger islands, 22, 23 or possibly even 24, so some vdry warm

:07:10. > :07:13.air across us. Easterly winds, starting off southeasterly `nd

:07:14. > :07:17.rounding off later in the d`y. More clout on Wednesday and Thursday

:07:18. > :07:22.still fine and dry with the threat of showers developing. Quitd a lot

:07:23. > :07:27.of cloud around on Friday, with frequent showers. That is the change

:07:28. > :07:30.towards the end of the week. In a second, the focus to the Unhted

:07:31. > :07:32.Kingdom, from here, good night and are you with the summary.

:07:33. > :07:44.week, with a greater risk of showers.

:07:45. > :07:54.When you compare it to what is happening over in the Americas. This

:07:55. > :07:59.is a hurricane and it is slamming into this peninsula right now. It is

:08:00. > :08:03.the most powerful hushry cane to hit this part of Mexico in 23 years The

:08:04. > :08:10.biggest impact could come from the rain. We could get two years rain in

:08:11. > :08:15.two days. S compare that to the wettest place in the UK today -

:08:16. > :08:20.Edinburgh. We had 11 mms of rain. Rain in Scotland. The heaviest is up

:08:21. > :08:25.to the Northern Isles. It should be quite a mild night. Any holes are

:08:26. > :08:29.getting filled in with low cloud, mist and fog. It could be unpleasant

:08:30. > :08:31.for the rush hour in the morning tomorrow. A grey, misty, murky

:08:32. > :08:33.start.
