:00:12. > :00:16.A ?95 million deficit over three years, and books that don't balance.

:00:17. > :00:18.Those are the criticisms levelled at Jersey's Treasury Minister today,

:00:19. > :00:21.as he asked the States to approve his Budget for next year.

:00:22. > :00:24.It shows States income is less than it's spending, leaving many

:00:25. > :00:34.That's the States' expected income next year.

:00:35. > :00:46.And Jersey's States is looking at about a ?30 million shortfall.

:00:47. > :00:49.The Treasury Minister Senator Philip Ozouf's already ruled out increasing

:00:50. > :00:54.income tax or GST, so how he'll cover that shortfall is

:00:55. > :01:01.He wants to increase impot duties on alcohol, tobacco and fuel,

:01:02. > :01:04.and he wants to raise stamp duty on expensive homes.

:01:05. > :01:07.And then there are plans to make ?20 million of spending cuts

:01:08. > :01:23.When your income is under threat, you do not stand there like a fly

:01:24. > :01:26.waiting for a windscreen. You invest, you build, you bring forward

:01:27. > :01:35.projects you need to do in the future. Expenditure is going up like

:01:36. > :01:40.that. We have lost the connection between income and expenditure. You

:01:41. > :01:46.and I in our private lives, you know, we'll endeavour not to spend

:01:47. > :01:49.more than we earn. But the States at the moment is just sort of... There

:01:50. > :01:50.is no connection between our income and spending.

:01:51. > :01:52.This is a budget that's being described as interim `

:01:53. > :01:55.because what's decided in the States this week won't be adopted

:01:56. > :01:58.Senator Ozouf easily survived a vote of no confidence over

:01:59. > :02:01.the plans recently, and he'll be hoping he can persuade

:02:02. > :02:26.Co`op shareholders are being asked to save the jobs

:02:27. > :02:28.of nearly 80 warehouse workers facing redundancy.

:02:29. > :02:30.The company announced on Friday that it's closing its food distribution

:02:31. > :02:35.This food warehouse in Jersey stood still this morning as

:02:36. > :02:38.Co`op workers met with their union after they were told

:02:39. > :02:40.the food warehouses in the Channel Islands are closing next

:02:41. > :02:44.summer, putting their jobs at risk ` 23 in Guernsey and 58 in Jersey.

:02:45. > :02:45.The warehouse workers wouldn't comment on camera.

:02:46. > :02:48.They said the meeting went well, they've taken all the information

:02:49. > :02:51.on board and now they are taking action to save their jobs.

:02:52. > :02:53.The employees of the customer`owned company are now

:02:54. > :03:06.I will be asking for an emergency meeting of the shareholders and we

:03:07. > :03:09.are going to put our case to the shareholders and I think it is

:03:10. > :03:15.important that the shareholders determine whether the proposals to

:03:16. > :03:16.outsource the business and to make 70 redundancies is appropriate or

:03:17. > :03:17.not. And now there's even more jobs

:03:18. > :03:19.at risk. The Co`op is closing this

:03:20. > :03:28.sport shop in St Peter. We work approached with an offer for

:03:29. > :03:34.the building which we felt was a good offer and one we needed to

:03:35. > :03:38.consider. So what we've done with our colleagues at the shop is be

:03:39. > :03:41.honest and upfront with them and say we are minded to accept this offer

:03:42. > :03:42.and that will have a material impact on their roles.

:03:43. > :03:44.Guernsey employees facing redundancy are meeting with

:03:45. > :03:47.They want the local company to be more locally minded.

:03:48. > :03:50.Co`op bosses say there will be job opportunities in their new store,

:03:51. > :03:53.at the former GT Cars site in Guernsey as well as

:03:54. > :04:05.But with only 50 jobs available, not everyone will necessarily get one.

:04:06. > :04:09.Police in Thailand say they plan to carry out DNA tests on all men

:04:10. > :04:11.on the island where Jerseyman David Miller and Hannah Witheridge from

:04:12. > :04:21.They said they are looking for three or possibly more men.

:04:22. > :04:22.A multi`million pound project to regenerate

:04:23. > :04:25.a derelict site destroyed by fire has been given the green light.

:04:26. > :04:27.Guernsey's Environment Department has granted permission to build

:04:28. > :04:30.a luxury hotel on the former Idle Rocks site in St Martins,

:04:31. > :04:33.Over ten years ago, the Idlerocks Hotel was ravaged

:04:34. > :04:39.Following a second fire two syear ago, parts of the hotel's

:04:40. > :04:44.It's long been an eyesore, and permission has just been granted

:04:45. > :04:49.to transform it into five`star hotel.

:04:50. > :04:53.The plans include 35 en`suite bedrooms, a spa, restaurant and

:04:54. > :05:09.This is an eco`friendly hotel. It has a green roof and green walls. It

:05:10. > :05:12.has been purposely designed to building with the topography and

:05:13. > :05:15.landscape of the site. We have designed something which will be

:05:16. > :05:20.having minimal impact on the landscape.

:05:21. > :05:22.The owners of the site have to meet certain

:05:23. > :05:25.conditions, such as allow the States archaeologist access to the site,

:05:26. > :05:28.Guernsey's National Trust has voiced concerns and says it'll be

:05:29. > :05:41.There are conditions imposed on the planning application which have been

:05:42. > :05:43.approved, and no doubt, we will be very interested to see how it

:05:44. > :05:43.develops. The hotel is expected to be

:05:44. > :05:46.completed within three years, a big investment hoping to

:05:47. > :06:06.attract big spenders to Guernsey. Have a look at this film, full of

:06:07. > :06:07.flashes, of Friday night's lightning storm. We thought it was pretty

:06:08. > :06:20.special. The weather. Starting to feel a bit more autumnal

:06:21. > :06:23.now. The colder night tonight than recently. Perhaps more of a breeze

:06:24. > :06:29.developing this week as well. Temperatures have already come down.

:06:30. > :06:34.Tomorrow is another fine and dry day with the sunshine. A top temperature

:06:35. > :06:39.of 17 or 18 degrees. Overnight tonight, that patchy cloud tending

:06:40. > :06:41.to melt away overnight. Perhaps low cloud appearing in the morning but

:06:42. > :06:46.it should be dry and cold. Temperatures down to 12 degrees and

:06:47. > :06:49.for tomorrow, light wind to start with an patchy cloud. Sunshine

:06:50. > :06:52.breaking through that and the wind picking up somewhat in the

:06:53. > :06:56.afternoon. They become north`westerly by the end of the

:06:57. > :07:00.afternoon soap maximum temperatures of around 17 or 18 degrees. The

:07:01. > :07:06.outlook is for more cloud in general to develop towards the end of the

:07:07. > :07:11.week. I think it is still dry story although on Wednesday we have the

:07:12. > :07:15.remains of a weather system bringing cloud across. Slow to move away. It

:07:16. > :07:19.brightens up on Thursday and Friday. Quite a bit of cloud around and

:07:20. > :07:24.breeze developing. Wind mainly from the West over the next three or four

:07:25. > :07:27.days. In a second, full forecast for the United Kingdom. From the Channel

:07:28. > :07:33.Islands, good night. Temperatures are not bad for the

:07:34. > :07:48.time of year. For much of the UK, this week will

:07:49. > :07:52.stay drier than average and warmer than average. We normally expect

:07:53. > :07:57.temperatures of around 22 degrees, but by the end of the week we could

:07:58. > :08:01.get into the low 20s. With clear skies at this time of year, it does

:08:02. > :08:05.turn chilly through the evening. More cloud in the north, with a weak

:08:06. > :08:15.weather front producing patchy and light rain. Temperatures should stay

:08:16. > :08:20.in double figures underneath that area of cloud. To the north and

:08:21. > :08:24.south, we are getting fairly close to freezing in the countryside, so a

:08:25. > :08:25.chilly start tomorrow morning. Also the
