:00:00. > 3:59:59struggled with an Australian barrage all tour. Let's hope this guy has a

:00:00. > :00:00.lot more success with conditions as the snow falls quite

:00:00. > :00:21.heavily. We are expecting some Good evening. The capital's

:00:22. > :00:26.transport network has been severely disrupted after London was battered

:00:27. > :00:31.by gale force storms overnight. Flights have also been affected.

:00:32. > :00:33.Power outages at Gatwick airport have meant many departures have been

:00:34. > :00:49.delayed and some flights cancelled. The fire brigade dealt with 800

:00:50. > :00:54.calls overnight. This was in Battersea. Some rivers burst their

:00:55. > :01:00.banks in south`east London. In Surrey the fire brigade says a train

:01:01. > :01:04.ran into a landslide at slow speed and more than 200 people were

:01:05. > :01:09.evacuated. The departure board this morning at Victoria station were

:01:10. > :01:15.just a line of cancellations. Including the Gatwick express. That

:01:16. > :01:20.meant Rob Carroll 's journey from Berlin still not over even after 15

:01:21. > :01:27.hours which had seen his flight diverted to Liverpool. It was an

:01:28. > :01:31.adventure at first. The family from Austria were hoping to fly back home

:01:32. > :01:38.after a short break in London. But problems en route to Gatwick and it

:01:39. > :01:44.was touch and go. The lady said we should change to a train from

:01:45. > :01:51.platforms 16 and then to other us. So we hope we do not have to stay

:01:52. > :01:54.for Christmas on the platform! Some people were able to share a cab to

:01:55. > :01:58.Gatwick bugbear of the atmosphere was fraught. But flight

:01:59. > :02:04.cancellations because of a flood from a nearby river cutting the

:02:05. > :02:09.power supply. Tonight the Middleton family from Reigate are moving into

:02:10. > :02:15.a hotel after their house was flooded in the overnight storm. It

:02:16. > :02:20.could not come at a worse time. You feel for the kids. The Middleton 's

:02:21. > :02:25.are making the best of the situation but for some people this will be a

:02:26. > :02:28.Christmas Eve to forget. There are still problems on the

:02:29. > :02:33.trains. Here are some of the services still affected. There's

:02:34. > :02:35.disruption on First Capital Connect on trains out of Kings Cross to

:02:36. > :02:38.Peterborough, Cambridge and Welwyn Garden City ` and also between

:02:39. > :02:41.Moorgate and Finsbury Park. There's no Gatwick Express due to adverse

:02:42. > :02:43.weather conditions and a landslip. There's no Southern service between

:02:44. > :02:48.East Croydon and Gatwick Airport either.

:02:49. > :02:53.Finally, on South West Trains, there's disruption on many services,

:02:54. > :02:56.especially in Surrey. In other news, thousands of civilian

:02:57. > :02:59.police staff in London ` including 999 call handlers ` are to go on

:03:00. > :03:05.strike on New Year's Eve. The PCS union says members voted three to

:03:06. > :03:08.one for strike action. With the latest, let's speak to Warren

:03:09. > :03:14.Nettleford at Scotland Yard. What impact is the strike likely to have?

:03:15. > :03:19.The police here do not seem to think it will have any impact despite the

:03:20. > :03:25.fact that these support staff going on strike mean that they will not be

:03:26. > :03:30.working on one of the busiest nights of the year. These include staff

:03:31. > :03:37.working in custody suite as well as 999 call handlers. It is all to do

:03:38. > :03:44.with the proposed 1% pay increase. They want a bigger pay increase. The

:03:45. > :03:48.Metropolitan police say they cannot increase wages any more due to a pay

:03:49. > :03:54.cut introduced by central government. As a result police are

:03:55. > :03:57.having to get staff to fill those jobs and they say they are fully

:03:58. > :04:03.trained and will be able to handle the calls. Thousands of people will

:04:04. > :04:08.be celebrating on New Year's Eve but they say there are confident it will

:04:09. > :04:12.be fine. The former football club owner, Ron

:04:13. > :04:15.Noades, has died at the age of 76. Ron Noades bought Crystal Palace in

:04:16. > :04:19.1981 and spent 17 years at Selhurst Park, before buying Brentford. He

:04:20. > :04:25.lost his battle with lung cancer this morning. Let's get an update on

:04:26. > :04:31.the weather with Sara Thornton. Good evening. We have some showers this

:04:32. > :04:41.evening and overnight but few and far between. It is a cold start to

:04:42. > :04:47.Christmas Day. There could be some wintry showers but many places will

:04:48. > :04:54.stay dry if chilly. Boxing Day looks like the best day of this week. Wet

:04:55. > :04:58.and windy again for Friday. Do try to have a good day tomorrow. That's

:04:59. > :05:09.it from us - we are back on Boxing Day at One o'clock. Merry Christmas.

:05:10. > :05:18.Hello. The weather has been a little kinder today to travellers and

:05:19. > :05:23.last-minute Christmas shoppers across England and Wales. Not as bad

:05:24. > :05:24.as we feared across Northern Ireland. We have
