:00:00. > :00:16.upheaval of August 1914. That is all from us,

:00:17. > :00:24.Good evening. A 13`year`old girl who was left severely brain damaged

:00:25. > :00:27.during treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, has been awarded a

:00:28. > :00:30.multi`million`pound payout. Maisha Najeeb was being treated for a rare

:00:31. > :00:33.medical condition when glue was accidentally injected into an

:00:34. > :00:36.artery. The hospital has apologised unreservedly. Her father said he

:00:37. > :00:43.hopes it never happens to another family. Ayshea Buksh reports.

:00:44. > :00:52.She was top of her class with a love of dancing and dreamed of being a

:00:53. > :00:57.doctor. Ten`year`old Maisha also had a rare condition, which meant her

:00:58. > :01:01.arteries and veins could easily tangle and bleed. At the country's

:01:02. > :01:07.leading children's hospital she was operated on five times. Back in June

:01:08. > :01:12.2010, Maisha was admitted here for another operation. In the procedure,

:01:13. > :01:16.glue is injected into the blood vessels to block the bleeding. A dye

:01:17. > :01:22.is also inserted to check the blood flow around the brain, but this time

:01:23. > :01:28.the syringes were mixed up and instead of dye, glue was injected

:01:29. > :01:32.into her brain, causing catastrophic damage. She was left with permanent

:01:33. > :01:38.brain damage. Now, aged 13, she is in a wheelchair and needs constant

:01:39. > :01:42.care. The family sued the hospital. Great Ormond Street admitted

:01:43. > :01:47.negligence and today her parents were awarded ?2.8 million upfront in

:01:48. > :01:52.damages, with further money to be given each year. If she lives to 64,

:01:53. > :01:57.the final some will exceed ?24 million. Outside court, her father

:01:58. > :02:01.and her mother spoke through the family lawyer. The family are

:02:02. > :02:06.saddened and devastated by what has happened to their daughter. Her life

:02:07. > :02:11.is ruined. All her dreams have been br enn. The family hopes that by

:02:12. > :02:16.bringing this case lessons will have been learned to avoid this happening

:02:17. > :02:20.to other families. In court, the hospital described what happened as

:02:21. > :02:26.a tragic set of circumstances and apologised to the family add ``

:02:27. > :02:31.adding that there are now systems in place to ensure this doesn't happen

:02:32. > :02:34.again. Asked whether anyone had been disciplined, the Trust said they

:02:35. > :02:38.were unable to comment. Maisha receives care at the hospital. The

:02:39. > :02:41.judge in the High Court said he hoped the compensation goes some way

:02:42. > :02:46.to make the rest of her life as bearable as possible.

:02:47. > :02:50.The economic gap between London and the rest of the UK widened during

:02:51. > :02:54.the economic recovery according to new research. The Centre for Cities

:02:55. > :02:58.says that the capital accounted for 80% of all growth in private sector

:02:59. > :03:00.jobs since 2010 and is attracting an unprecedented number of young

:03:01. > :03:10.people. Our Political Correspondent Karl Mercer reports.

:03:11. > :03:19.Time to go to work. Absolutely. I'm Gary and I'm living in South Wales

:03:20. > :03:26.and I'm about to head off on 181 miles to my workplace. I'm scaring

:03:27. > :03:32.you That's fantastic. Two sides of the story of London. A city of

:03:33. > :03:37.creatives and a city that pulls talent in from across the country.

:03:38. > :03:41.I'm at a service station. An hour`and`a`half after I set off at

:03:42. > :03:45.5. 15. I expect to be an hour for the rest of the journey. Gary spends

:03:46. > :03:51.more than five hours a day driving to his job at a graphic firm as a

:03:52. > :03:54.production manager. Here at a company in Croydon, they are

:03:55. > :04:01.recruiting from around the country and overseas. London and the

:04:02. > :04:07.surrounding counties have been a strong place for video games. We

:04:08. > :04:14.have one man from France, a Spanish gentleman and one from Sweden, who

:04:15. > :04:19.have relocated. Terry's firm isn't alone in recruiting. London has

:04:20. > :04:26.created 216,000 private`sector jobs, ten times more than any other city.

:04:27. > :04:31.New research shows one third of all 22`30`year`olds leaving their homes

:04:32. > :04:36.head for the capital. There are a range of indicators, when we look at

:04:37. > :04:40.the businesses or look at the new starts being generated or the skills

:04:41. > :04:44.of the workforce. All of those puts London near the top, if not top

:04:45. > :04:47.itself, so there's a whole bunch of activity going on. There were calls

:04:48. > :04:52.for other cities to uptheir game and in defence of the capital's pulling

:04:53. > :04:56.power from the Mayor. We export huge sums in tax and public spending to

:04:57. > :05:01.the rest of the country. You've got to support that. I think that most

:05:02. > :05:05.sensible people can see that unless you have a strong London economy

:05:06. > :05:07.most of the rest of the country won't function nearly as well. Oh,

:05:08. > :05:16.yes, that's right, we're the best. Let's cross to Alex Bushill. This

:05:17. > :05:25.report has provoked reaction hasn't it? It has. The report's authors

:05:26. > :05:29.want more localism. The three parties broadly speaking welcome

:05:30. > :05:31.that. A lot of talk today by devolving responsibility and

:05:32. > :05:37.resources down to a city level, but here's the test to all that. The

:05:38. > :05:41.Mayor talking about tax. He has long championed that tax raised in London

:05:42. > :05:44.should stay in London, talking about stamp duty, where it is raised here

:05:45. > :05:50.and staying here. Other English cities have broadly said they

:05:51. > :05:54.welcome the proposals. The Treasury has been reluckant to release their

:05:55. > :05:56.fingers from the dush reluctant to release their fingers from the pulse

:05:57. > :06:05.strings. Thank you very much. Time for a

:06:06. > :06:12.check on the weather with Wendy. How are the next few days looking?

:06:13. > :06:18.Clear We have an area of low sitting over the UK and spring around the

:06:19. > :06:22.outside with a lot of mess. There are a lot of showers. We are going

:06:23. > :06:27.to see a few of those throughout the day tomorrow. And then it will turn

:06:28. > :06:32.more settled, but also colder and fairly cloudy too. At the moment,

:06:33. > :06:35.the Met Office has us called by yellow warnings, because they have a

:06:36. > :06:41.tendency to clump together into bands as we go through tomorrow, but

:06:42. > :06:46.may mean that some places get ten to 15 mill mitres of rain and it's not

:06:47. > :06:50.really needed, especially `` millimetres of rain and it's not

:06:51. > :06:54.really needed especially in the Home Counties. In the morning, heavy

:06:55. > :06:58.showers. Temperatures in between, down to two or three. There is a bit

:06:59. > :07:03.of clear sky to be head. Certainly out there at the moment. First thing

:07:04. > :07:06.tomorrow, watch out or the showers. They will continue into the

:07:07. > :07:09.afternoon, particularly pushed in as the wind switches to the more

:07:10. > :07:13.easterly direction. That will start making it feel chilly through

:07:14. > :07:17.Wednesday and Thursday. Fairly cloudy and dry conditions, but

:07:18. > :07:24.easterly winds starting to bite. You'll notice that. Thank you very

:07:25. > :07:26.much. That's it for tonight. We're back tomorrow morning during

:07:27. > :07:39.Breakfast. From us here, though, we wish you a very good night.

:07:40. > :07:45.It's going to get colder than it's been all winter. Ahead of that,

:07:46. > :07:50.though, the showers keep going and going through tonight and into

:07:51. > :07:54.tomorrow. Some of them heavy, possibly thundery too. Here's the

:07:55. > :07:58.satellite. We can pick out the swirl of cloud here. The bands of shower

:07:59. > :08:03.clouds that have been streaming into the UK. All driven and wrapped

:08:04. > :08:05.around an area of low. That is the driving force for the showers that

:08:06. > :08:06.we have at the moment.
