:00:00. > :00:16.Good evening. The BBC understands that within weeks up to 500

:00:17. > :00:22.Metropolitan Police officers will be issued with body`worn cameras. The

:00:23. > :00:25.cameras will film them at work, recording their interactions with

:00:26. > :00:28.the public and criminal suspects. But concern has already been

:00:29. > :00:32.expressed that officers could be allowed to switch their cameras off.

:00:33. > :00:41.Here's our Political Editor, Tim Donovan.

:00:42. > :00:44.On the high Street in Sutton in south`west London, from more than a

:00:45. > :00:51.year police have been wearing cameras. When we are dealing with an

:00:52. > :00:55.incident, officers can go back to the police station and write notes.

:00:56. > :01:01.The camera does capture the high intensity. The Metropolitan Police

:01:02. > :01:09.saw this in operation recently. From April, 500 cameras will be issued to

:01:10. > :01:12.officers. Importantly, it seems to reduce confrontation in the

:01:13. > :01:17.night`time economy. Victims of domestic violence, it is a more

:01:18. > :01:24.immediate way of seeing the impact of abuse. There are Home Office

:01:25. > :01:28.guidelines on when officers can switch on or off. A campaign

:01:29. > :01:32.supporting the family of Leon Briggs, who died in police custody

:01:33. > :01:38.in Luton, say they should be on all the time. It is about the simple

:01:39. > :01:42.proposition that all police officers in all interactions with the public

:01:43. > :01:48.will wear body worn cameras and will be recording. If you have cameras

:01:49. > :01:52.with real`time information, you will have less rumours and less things

:01:53. > :01:58.blowing up in the community. It has to be the way to go. You do not want

:01:59. > :02:03.policemen switching them off at will. The pilot will be funded by

:02:04. > :02:13.the mayor's office for police funding.

:02:14. > :02:16.Heston Blumental has been forced to shut his gourmet London restaurant,

:02:17. > :02:18.after an outbreak of a vomiting virus. Blumental has apologised to

:02:19. > :02:20.customers at his exclusive two Michelin`starred Dinner restaurant

:02:21. > :02:24.at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Hyde Park. It's the same norovirus

:02:25. > :02:27.which forced him to close his Fat Duck restaurant in Berkshire five

:02:28. > :02:31.years ago. Dragons and horses were in the West End today to celebrate

:02:32. > :02:33.the Chinese New Year. The festivities are the largest outside

:02:34. > :02:44.China, and our reporter, Anjana Gadgil, was watching the day's

:03:33. > :03:35.here in central London. It is a great opportunity for Chinese

:03:36. > :03:42.businesses to make some money. But it is not just commerce driving

:03:43. > :03:47.London's interest in China. We have got a large Chinese community in

:03:48. > :03:52.London. Chinatown is just behind us. They are integrated as part of the

:03:53. > :03:54.community. One of the great attractions of London is how

:03:55. > :04:00.multicultural it is and how we embrace the strengths of the

:04:01. > :04:05.different cultures around us. The day progressed with singing and

:04:06. > :04:14.dancing. It is a 14 day festival. As the Chinese would say...

:04:15. > :04:24.Happy New Year back. Now the weather. Good evening. A pleasant

:04:25. > :04:28.day today. Not too bad a night. Tomorrow, a fair amount of cloud in

:04:29. > :04:33.the morning. A windy day. It brightens up in the afternoon.
