:00:19. > :00:22.Good evening. Disruption on the Tube is already being felt after the

:00:23. > :00:25.48`hour strike got underway this evening. There are severe delays and

:00:26. > :00:28.part suspensions on some lines. The walk`out which began at 9:00pm is

:00:29. > :00:32.over plans to close all ticket offices and cut jobs. Another

:00:33. > :00:33.two`day strike is planned for next week. Here's our Transport

:00:34. > :00:48.Correspondent Tom Edwards. In home late, and commuters are

:00:49. > :00:54.facing problems already as union members walked out of 24 hours and

:00:55. > :01:01.more disruption tomorrow. Painfully annoying, so there are buses and

:01:02. > :01:07.mainline trains. I'm a bit annoyed, but I'll doubt it don't have any

:01:08. > :01:10.choice. He did promise to keep the ticket booths open, and that's not

:01:11. > :01:16.happening, so I understand why the unions want to make a big deal out

:01:17. > :01:20.of it. This morning, in an extremely unusual move, union bosses were at

:01:21. > :01:24.City Hall. They wanted to talk to the London mayor directly. They did

:01:25. > :01:29.talk via a radio phone in, but this was the day negotiations never

:01:30. > :01:34.started. It will make absolutely no difference to the long`term future

:01:35. > :01:36.of their members and it won't do anything for London Underground

:01:37. > :01:39.It's completely the wrong way forward. They need to get to the

:01:40. > :01:45.table, call of the strike and begin negotiating. If more people want to

:01:46. > :01:49.use London Underground, and this is an increasing industry, a growing

:01:50. > :01:52.industry, hundreds of thousands more people will use the London

:01:53. > :01:57.Underground, so the last thing you want to do is take out 1000 jobs if

:01:58. > :02:01.you want to use the services more. The strike is over 950 job losses

:02:02. > :02:06.and the closure of all ticket offices. The Oyster card means they

:02:07. > :02:09.are not needed, says London Underground and it will seek to

:02:10. > :02:15.avoid compulsory redundancies, but the union have safety concerns. This

:02:16. > :02:21.new company has a launch party in the city tomorrow. I think it could

:02:22. > :02:25.really blow a hole in our plans We could end up with half the people

:02:26. > :02:32.that we thought were coming in coming. Not far away, strike

:02:33. > :02:36.supporters have supported all day. The strikers are defending their

:02:37. > :02:41.jobs. They are also defending the service they are giving. At the

:02:42. > :02:46.moment in this dispute both sides are entrenched. Another strike is

:02:47. > :02:49.planned for this time next week And Tom's outside Warren Street Station

:02:50. > :02:56.now, and there's been a lot of political reaction to the strike?

:02:57. > :02:58.Yes, tonight the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition both

:02:59. > :03:03.condemned the strike. David Cameron said it was shameful, and Ed

:03:04. > :03:07.Miliband said it should not have gone ahead. Harriet Harman, the

:03:08. > :03:12.deputy leader, said both sides needed their heads knocking

:03:13. > :03:17.together. I think lots of commuters would have sympathy with that

:03:18. > :03:22.sentiment tonight. The strike already having an impact on

:03:23. > :03:26.services? Yes, but I have to say it is quiet in town and a lot of people

:03:27. > :03:30.have gone home already. However there are already problems. The

:03:31. > :03:34.Jubilee line is already part suspended. Six lines have severe

:03:35. > :03:36.delays. The bad news for commuters is it will be even worse in rush

:03:37. > :03:46.tomorrow. Daschle rush`hour tomorrow. So the

:03:47. > :03:49.strike will affect all Underground lines with only limited services

:03:50. > :03:52.expected over the next two days Alice Bhandhukravi has more details

:03:53. > :03:56.on just how it'll affect travel in the capital.

:03:57. > :04:01.Heading home tonight and planning how they will get around the next

:04:02. > :04:07.two days. It's likely to be a challenging 48 hours for commuters.

:04:08. > :04:12.Everybody will be on the road, on buses, on bikes, and that will slow

:04:13. > :04:17.it down. It's going to affect me coming into work, the two days, so

:04:18. > :04:22.it has a huge impact. I am working a long day, so I have to find a way of

:04:23. > :04:27.getting the bus at about 5:30am in the morning. We don't know exactly

:04:28. > :04:31.how badly services will be affected, but here is what we do

:04:32. > :04:36.know. There will be disruption on all lines. Trains that are running

:04:37. > :04:40.will operate between every six and 20 minutes with services starting

:04:41. > :04:45.later than normal at 7am and finishing early at 11pm. The picture

:04:46. > :04:51.is pretty complicated, but to give you an idea of how the tube will

:04:52. > :04:55.run, let's look at some examples. On the Central line, no trains in the

:04:56. > :04:58.middle section between White city and Leytonstone, but there will be

:04:59. > :05:03.some services at either end. It s a similar search `` situation on the

:05:04. > :05:06.Piccadilly line, no service in central London from Acton town do

:05:07. > :05:13.not growth but the outer edges will have a similar service. One of the

:05:14. > :05:16.difficulties is you have to have a minimum number of staff for safety

:05:17. > :05:21.reasons. Safety is always the number one priority. When we have a number

:05:22. > :05:24.of people supporting the service and we have to distribute them around

:05:25. > :05:29.the network we have to do it to the best of our ability, so we're trying

:05:30. > :05:33.to create an integrated service So how else can you get around town?

:05:34. > :05:38.The DLR, London Overground and tram services will operate as normal

:05:39. > :05:41.There will be extra buses and river bus services, and Londoners are

:05:42. > :05:47.being advised to consider cycling and walking to work. Of course, it

:05:48. > :05:49.is a changing picture. You can keep up`to`date on the BBC London website

:05:50. > :05:54.or follow our travel team on twitter.

:05:55. > :05:59.And as you heard there you can head to our website at bbc.co.uk/London,

:06:00. > :06:01.where our Local Live page will be updated with the latest travel

:06:02. > :06:06.information from 6:00am tomorrow morning.

:06:07. > :06:14.Let's get a check on tomorrow's weather, as well, with Wendy.

:06:15. > :06:21.It will only add to the woes, cycling, walking, standing up bus

:06:22. > :06:24.queues will not be fun tomorrow Serious weather coming our way, all

:06:25. > :06:29.covered by a yellow weather warning with gusty winds up to 50 mph and 50

:06:30. > :06:32.millimetres of rain on top of what we've already had. We just don't

:06:33. > :06:35.need it. It's already started raining across London and the heavy

:06:36. > :06:40.stuff will come through at midnight, and with that the gusty winds.

:06:41. > :06:45.Temperatures overnight down to four or five Celsius. We start tomorrow

:06:46. > :06:50.with bright spells, but also heavy showers and strong winds. Parts of

:06:51. > :06:55.Surrey, towards the coast and Kent, that will have an amber warning in

:06:56. > :07:00.place for those strong winds. Then we have the showers continuing till

:07:01. > :07:05.tomorrow afternoon, the heaviest with temperatures of about 10

:07:06. > :07:09.Celsius. Not much fun tomorrow. Bright to start with on Thursday,

:07:10. > :07:13.less breezy, but heavy, persistent rain overnight into Friday which we

:07:14. > :07:15.will tell you about in the National forecast coming up. That's

:07:16. > :07:19.We will of course have the latest on the travel situation in our

:07:20. > :07:36.bulletins during Breakfast tomorrow morning. From us here, goodnight.

:07:37. > :07:42.Good evening. Much like the local forecast, the national picture is a

:07:43. > :07:46.stormy one in the next 24 hours The Met Office have issued an amber

:07:47. > :07:50.weather warning for strong winds across southern counties. Wilts up

:07:51. > :07:55.to Surrey in particular. There will be some transport disruption, no

:07:56. > :07:58.doubt, and it could go beyond that, so if you're travelling across the

:07:59. > :08:01.country there could be transport and power disruption and with more rain

:08:02. > :08:07.in the forecast, further flooding where areas have flooded and some

:08:08. > :08:13.very strong winds and high seas Southern coastal counties of England

:08:14. > :08:18.and Wales have been troubled, but Dorset sees three severe flood

:08:19. > :08:23.warnings, and more details on them on our own website. Still some very

:08:24. > :08:26.strong winds and heavy rain although it is set to ease off in the next

:08:27. > :08:32.hour. The strongest winds will be on the back edge of this band of more

:08:33. > :08:33.persistent rain which extends across much of England, Northern Ireland
