:00:13. > :00:15.Good evening. The Environment Agency has tonight

:00:16. > :00:18.downgraded its severe flood warnings along the River Thames meaning

:00:19. > :00:24.people's lives there are no longer considered to be at risk. Water

:00:25. > :00:27.levels are gradually falling but communities are still being warned

:00:28. > :00:37.to be vigilant as the flooding is expected to remain for some time

:00:38. > :00:42.yet. Here's Nick Beake. The danger may have subsided, but

:00:43. > :00:45.the mission isn't over. The army were back here in a game checking on

:00:46. > :00:52.residence and delivering yet more sandbags. The water is subsiding the

:00:53. > :00:56.people need sandbags. It is bolstering defences they already

:00:57. > :01:02.have in case defences rise again later in the week, which might

:01:03. > :01:06.happen. This is a big pile of furniture, four armchairs and a

:01:07. > :01:13.server. For this lady near Chertsey the damage is already done. She had

:01:14. > :01:23.just spent her life savings refurbishing her house. What can you

:01:24. > :01:27.do? This is what a trip back from the shops looked like, precious

:01:28. > :01:37.cargo inches above the filthy water. The level has dropped, believe it or

:01:38. > :01:42.not. This is how we found this road last Wednesday. The concern is the

:01:43. > :01:47.water level seems to be rising. Today, five days on, the water level

:01:48. > :01:52.has finally dropped, but people living here have got no idea when

:01:53. > :02:03.all the rest of will drain away Some of the evacuees of the floods

:02:04. > :02:07.have seen it all before. 87`year`old Douglas and his friend Edna have

:02:08. > :02:12.been staying in a hotel for three weeks after being rescued from their

:02:13. > :02:18.homes. I was devastated, I hate being away from home, I think you do

:02:19. > :02:24.when you get older. We were sent here by the insurers, we ought to be

:02:25. > :02:32.out tomorrow. It is make your mind up time where you are going to go.

:02:33. > :02:37.Where do you go? I don't know, it would be no good going back to my

:02:38. > :02:43.place because my neighbours say it is still a couple of foot deep. In

:02:44. > :02:53.so many places the outlook is bleak but you can stumble across

:02:54. > :02:59.heart`warming moments. 52 day, and she is stuck indoors. Down the road

:03:00. > :03:04.we meant mark last week, a solitary figure who has refused to leave his

:03:05. > :03:11.house. The water as receded but it has been a tough week. Had enough,

:03:12. > :03:16.just been told by the army we are expecting more. It has dampened the

:03:17. > :03:24.spirits. I want my family back, I missed them like mad. Troops on the

:03:25. > :03:30.submerged streets of Surrey remains a bizarre picture, although things

:03:31. > :03:35.have stabilised. It is hard to see when life will be back to normal.

:03:36. > :03:38.Chertsey is one of the areas badly affected by the floods. Alice

:03:39. > :03:50.Bhanhukravi is there for us tonight. Alice.

:03:51. > :03:55.Floodwaters may have receded but it tells you about the level of water,

:03:56. > :03:59.when there are these pipes, still going. They are bringing water out

:04:00. > :04:04.of the town and putting it back into the Thames. It is actually a

:04:05. > :04:09.footpath, but the Thames has broken its banks and those pipes are

:04:10. > :04:12.getting rid of some of the water, but it feels like it will be a long

:04:13. > :04:17.time before anybody sits on the bench. You can see the speed at

:04:18. > :04:22.which the water is rushing through under this bridge. The waters may

:04:23. > :04:28.have receded, but there is still a lot of it around.

:04:29. > :04:34.There will be other challenges ahead when the water finally goes down.

:04:35. > :04:41.One of the things that is most obvious, the extent of the damage

:04:42. > :04:45.caused. A lot of people are beginning to go back to their

:04:46. > :04:49.houses, those who had to leave, and they are realising the extent of the

:04:50. > :04:53.damage, the high water mark coming up on their furniture. A lot of the

:04:54. > :05:00.work ahead will be paperwork, filling in insurance forms and it

:05:01. > :05:04.seems like a huge tax ahead. `` Tasker.

:05:05. > :05:07.In other news, around 50 people had to be evacuated from a busy street

:05:08. > :05:10.near King's Cross this morning, after flames burst through the

:05:11. > :05:17.pavement. The fire broke out under a manhole cover on the Caledonian

:05:18. > :05:25.Road. Marc Ashdown reports. A busy N. London St this morning,

:05:26. > :05:33.the pavement is on fire. Without warning flames burst through,

:05:34. > :05:38.luckily nobody was injured. I don't know how the flames started, but it

:05:39. > :05:44.was quite shocking, it was half my height. Luckily nobody was standing

:05:45. > :05:50.there on the wise there would have been serious injury. 50 people were

:05:51. > :05:55.evacuated after flames were brought under control. It was caused by an

:05:56. > :06:00.electrical fault under the pavement. These engineers have been here all

:06:01. > :06:04.day trying to fix it but this is not the first time in London Street has

:06:05. > :06:13.suddenly exploded. Pimlico Road in April last year, there has just been

:06:14. > :06:18.an explosion. And another. The man next to it narrowly escaped serious

:06:19. > :06:21.injury. There have been about 5 such explosions across the capital

:06:22. > :06:27.over the past few years, caused by various faults beneath our feet The

:06:28. > :06:30.power should be restored in Islington fairly soon, the flames

:06:31. > :06:34.were not as serious as some incidents but it will fuel concerns

:06:35. > :06:37.over another sudden, unexpected explosion.

:06:38. > :06:39.That's it from me. Let me wish you a very goodnight and hand you over to

:06:40. > :06:51.Wendy for the weather forecast. We have still got problems with the

:06:52. > :06:56.flooding, waterlogged ground. The river levels will be sensitive to

:06:57. > :07:01.further rain. It will be drier and calmer than last week. We have some

:07:02. > :07:11.rain at the moment. For the most part it will be light, Apache, one

:07:12. > :07:16.to bursts, and it will stay mild. We start with some cloud and drizzly

:07:17. > :07:20.rain. A bit damp in the east. There is a chance of some brightness.

:07:21. > :07:30.There will be one or two isolated showers. Here is your Outlook, drive

:07:31. > :07:31.for the most part on Wednesday, it will turn

:07:32. > :07:38.for the most part on Wednesday, it will turn more unsettled.

:07:39. > :07:45.Whilst across the whole of the country the general weather pattern

:07:46. > :07:49.shows no signs of completely settling down there is some good

:07:50. > :07:54.news. There will be some drier spells over the next couple of days,

:07:55. > :07:59.the wind is not as strong and it will be relatively mild. Cloud

:08:00. > :08:08.tonight, the exception is the Northern Isles. The risk of a touch

:08:09. > :08:13.of Frost. A weakening front sitting through Scotland. Some heavier

:08:14. > :08:16.showers for Northern Ireland and the south-west. A misty and murky night.

:08:17. > :08:18.There will be some hill fog
