:00:13. > :00:17.Good evening. Scotland Yard says it was its
:00:18. > :00:20.biggest ever operation against a suspected criminal gang. A series of
:00:21. > :00:23.early morning raids across north London on people they believe work
:00:24. > :00:27.with the Adams family ` alleged to be a criminal network. 200 officers
:00:28. > :00:30.were involved and 15 people were arrested on suspicion of money
:00:31. > :00:38.laundering, fraud and conspiracy to assault. Our reporter, Nick Beake,
:00:39. > :00:42.joined the police operation in the early hours.
:00:43. > :00:48.5:00am, in Highgate, north London, a secret operation, months in the
:00:49. > :00:53.planning is coming to a head. Much of the capital is still sleeping.
:00:54. > :01:03.Including here. Not for much longer. Go, go, go! Police! As the police
:01:04. > :01:06.pile in, a dog escapes and disappears through the deserted
:01:07. > :01:10.streets. Inside the one`bedroom basement flat, a detailed search is
:01:11. > :01:15.under way. The police have been inside for about five minutes.
:01:16. > :01:20.They're looking for cash, passports and any documentation. It's not yet
:01:21. > :01:24.6:00am and this is one of 20 locations they're raiding. The Met
:01:25. > :01:26.say they're hitting a group they suspect of being one of London's and
:01:27. > :01:31.the country's longest established organised crime gangs. The police
:01:32. > :01:35.haven't named them, but it is believed they're the Adams family,
:01:36. > :01:39.said to be one of the most feared crime families during the 80s and
:01:40. > :01:41.90s. Officers say accountants, mortgage brokers and property
:01:42. > :01:49.developers were among those taken into custody after detectives
:01:50. > :01:54.followed a money trail. We're using the Proceeds of Crime Act to seize
:01:55. > :02:01.their illegally obtained assets Assets that we believe have heaped
:02:02. > :02:04.misery on to communities. We will look at the high value goods,
:02:05. > :02:09.property, vehicles and cash in particular. Police say in the past
:02:10. > :02:17.24 hours 200 police officers have seized firearms, expensive watches
:02:18. > :02:23.and around ?150,000 in cash. Among those arrested this morning a
:02:24. > :02:27.57`year`old man and his wife. He was detained on suspicion of money
:02:28. > :02:31.laundering. Back in Highgate, a suspect is brought out and taken
:02:32. > :02:38.away for questioning. So far no one arrested today has been charged But
:02:39. > :02:44.the police claim this represents an important moment in their ongoing
:02:45. > :02:48.fight against organised crime. A four`year sentence handed to a
:02:49. > :02:52.south London man who killed someone with a single punch is being
:02:53. > :02:55.reviewed by the Attorney`General. 20`year`old Lewis Gill from Sutton
:02:56. > :03:01.hit Andrew Young in an unprovoked attack in Bournemouth in November
:03:02. > :03:05.last year. Mr Young who had Asperger's Syndrome, suffered a head
:03:06. > :03:06.injury and died later in hospital. 40 complaints have been made,
:03:07. > :03:11.criticising the sentence as too lenient.
:03:12. > :03:14.Work to increase capacity on one of the region's busiest rail routes is
:03:15. > :03:16.running nearly a year behind schedule. South West Trains is
:03:17. > :03:21.refurbishing and adding more carriages to its services in
:03:22. > :03:24.Berkshire. While the company blames contractors for missed deadlines and
:03:25. > :03:31.faults, South West Trains is being accused of being over ambitious
:03:32. > :03:36.30 of London's worst junctions for cyclists and pedestrians are to be
:03:37. > :03:39.transformed to make them safer. ?300 million will be spent ripping out
:03:40. > :03:44.some of the capital's most famous roundabouts and gyratory systems.
:03:45. > :03:56.Tarah Welsh is at Elephant and Castle with more.
:03:57. > :04:02.This announcement means the end of what Boris Johnson describes as a
:04:03. > :04:07.London's nastiest and biggest junctions. He describes them as
:04:08. > :04:11.relics of the 60s. At this roundabout here at elephant and
:04:12. > :04:18.Castle, it will be going along with seven others in a bid to make
:04:19. > :04:22.London's roads safer for cyclists. Civilised places for cyclists and
:04:23. > :04:28.pedestrians is what the mayor said he wanted today. They will probably
:04:29. > :04:32.look something like this. But instead, here is the reality for
:04:33. > :04:37.many cyclists on their daily commute, crossing busy junctions
:04:38. > :04:42.with cars and heavy goods. The elephant and Castle roundabout has
:04:43. > :04:48.the highest cycle casualty rate in London, but it will be removed along
:04:49. > :04:55.with several others. There is a ?300 million programme to improve safety
:04:56. > :04:59.and improve the lives of cyclists and pedestrians at Aldgate, Swiss
:05:00. > :05:06.Cottage and Wandsworth, amongst other places. Across London, 33
:05:07. > :05:09.junction will be transformed. As well as elephant and Castle, other
:05:10. > :05:15.areas like Archway, Aldgate, Swiss Cottage and Wandsworth will have
:05:16. > :05:19.their systems replaced with two`way roads and segregated cycle tracks.
:05:20. > :05:25.But more junctions were earmarked and there is criticism not including
:05:26. > :05:29.them in the programme is a mistake. Sadly there is over 80 junctions
:05:30. > :05:37.that were previously identified as danger hotspots in London. They are
:05:38. > :05:41.not being included. If the mayor had not been underspending on his
:05:42. > :05:46.cycling budget every year, it is up to ?150 million underspent, that
:05:47. > :05:51.money could have been used to get on with the work and we could have had
:05:52. > :05:56.those junctions made safe by now. But City Hall says spending the most
:05:57. > :06:00.money on fewer difference `` fewer junctions will make the most
:06:01. > :06:05.difference. Exactly when will be in the detail and that will not be
:06:06. > :06:11.published until next month. That lack of detail makes it very
:06:12. > :06:16.difficult to cyclists to scrutinise the plans. But campaigners have
:06:17. > :06:21.welcomed the announcement. It is so important, because last year in a
:06:22. > :06:26.two`week period, six cyclists were killed. They say anything to improve
:06:27. > :06:30.London's roads for cyclists is a step in the right direction.
:06:31. > :06:32.That's it from me, so I'll wish you a very goodnight and hand you over
:06:33. > :06:44.to Wendy for the weather. We have tricky weather to forecast
:06:45. > :06:48.on Friday and Saturday. But that the end of the week it is turning
:06:49. > :06:52.colder, windier and wetter. There might be wet snow in the mix and
:06:53. > :06:57.gusty winds in places. Straightforward at the moment, clear
:06:58. > :07:02.skies to be replaced by cloud and eventually comes the rain as well.
:07:03. > :07:07.That will be heavy in places, but it goes through quickly and
:07:08. > :07:11.temperatures will fall down to four to six Celsius. If you are up early,
:07:12. > :07:14.the rain will clear through the rush hour quickly. Then there is a lull
:07:15. > :07:19.in proceedings with wheezy conditions. That Breeze will bring
:07:20. > :07:24.showers through in the mid afternoon. Haps the odd rumble of
:07:25. > :07:30.thunder and hail. Temperatures around 10 degrees. It will be a wet
:07:31. > :07:31.day on Friday, wet snow around and a breeze blowing as
:07:32. > :07:37.day on Friday, wet snow around and a breeze blowing as well. Tricky into
:07:38. > :07:40.the weekend. And now we have the national forecast.
:07:41. > :07:44.Good evening. We know it has been a wet winter but it has also been mild
:07:45. > :07:51.and across England and Wales, lacking in snow. The last day of the
:07:52. > :07:56.season which we measure on Friday, might provide a bit of it. Friday's
:07:57. > :08:02.weather is coming from the small area of low pressure. These tiny
:08:03. > :08:07.low-pressure systems are difficult to track and a subtle change in
:08:08. > :08:11.position could have a big impact. Tonight we have more
:08:12. > :08:14.straightforward, a weather front spreading out rakes of rain across
:08:15. > :08:20.most areas. Turning windy as well. The rain will be heavy but will move
:08:21. > :08:21.through quickly because of the strength of the wind and it will be
