:00:00. > :00:00.East Anglia, a great start, that area of low I

:00:00. > :00:19.Good evening. The parents of a five`year`old boy from Surrey who

:00:20. > :00:22.was mauled by a dog are backing calls from a judge to have longer

:00:23. > :00:26.prison sentences for owners. Currently the maximum term is just

:00:27. > :00:28.two years. A warning that Emilia Papadopoulos's report contains

:00:29. > :00:34.images of injuries that some viewers may find disturbing.

:00:35. > :00:38.From a distance, Alex looks like any other five`year`old. But look a

:00:39. > :00:43.little closer, and you can still see the scars. It was just over a year

:00:44. > :00:48.ago that he was attacked in a park in Ashford by a dog that wasn't on a

:00:49. > :00:51.lead. The dog just ran up behind us and immediately jumped up. I

:00:52. > :00:57.physically couldn't get the dog off him, I was still holding on to Alex

:00:58. > :01:00.and he pulled me over. I tried to stick my hands in, hoping that he'd

:01:01. > :01:03.bite me instead. And then immediately afterwards, Alex's face

:01:04. > :01:09.was literally ripped from mouth to ear.

:01:10. > :01:12.The owner of the dog that attacked Alex went to prison for four months.

:01:13. > :01:15.This week, another man whose dog seriously injured a four`year`old in

:01:16. > :01:19.Camden was given the maximum jail term of two years. Inside court, the

:01:20. > :01:25.judge said the current law prevented him from handing out a more severe

:01:26. > :01:28.punishment. The maximum sentence for owners of

:01:29. > :01:31.dogs who cause injury is just two years, but the Government is making

:01:32. > :01:34.amendments to the Dangerous Dogs Act, and by the spring owners of

:01:35. > :01:41.dogs who attack or even kill members of the public could face up to 14

:01:42. > :01:44.years in prison. One man who's been instrumental in

:01:45. > :01:51.changing the current legislation is Bedford MP Richard Fuller. Unless we

:01:52. > :01:55.move the penalty forward and give the police the right power to enable

:01:56. > :02:00.people to be given the right sentence, we will not be tackling

:02:01. > :02:03.the problem early enough. It is getting too serious to ignore. Last

:02:04. > :02:06.year in London, 604 people received hospital treatment for injuries from

:02:07. > :02:09.dogs. That is a 5% increase on the year before. Alex's parents say

:02:10. > :02:16.there is a need for harsher sentencing. If these people are

:02:17. > :02:19.going to have these kind of dogs, and they're going to treat them like

:02:20. > :02:21.they do, they've got to take the consequences.

:02:22. > :02:24.This April, Alex's dad will be running the London Marathon to raise

:02:25. > :02:26.money for St George's Hospital, who treated his son. No doubt Alex will

:02:27. > :02:34.be there to cheer him on. A double murder investigation has

:02:35. > :02:38.been launched after two men were found dead in a car in east London.

:02:39. > :02:41.They're both thought to be aged in their 20s and were discovered on

:02:42. > :02:44.Montague Road in Leytonstone early this morning. Detectives are

:02:45. > :02:49.appealing for witnesses and are conducting inquiries into the

:02:50. > :02:52.identity of the victims. Work to remove the barriers from the

:02:53. > :02:56.Dartford Crossing is due to begin in Autumn. But the tolls on the the

:02:57. > :03:00.free`flowing system are due to go up from ?2 to ?2.50 for cars and will

:03:01. > :03:05.be paid on the internet or over the phone.

:03:06. > :03:08.The Olympic pool in Stratford has opened its doors to the public. From

:03:09. > :03:14.today, Londoners will be able to use the pool where so many records were

:03:15. > :03:20.broken during the 2012 Games. Anjana Gadgil has been down there.

:03:21. > :03:25.When London held the Olympic Games, this cull hadn't been born. Now 18

:03:26. > :03:34.months old, the parent plan to bring her every week. Even if we come on

:03:35. > :03:38.the Tube, it is easy to get to. And it is a much better facility than

:03:39. > :03:41.our local one. It is really an impressive place to come. The space

:03:42. > :03:45.is really good for a family, it is easy to bring a child, parking and

:03:46. > :03:47.like that. As well as the family pool, there is a 50 metres pool,

:03:48. > :03:52.much appreciated by serious swimmers. It is light and airy, it

:03:53. > :03:56.is warm as well, I think there is a bit of peer pressure, people

:03:57. > :04:03.swimming, you want to be the best we can. We will come, get fit and

:04:04. > :04:07.healthier. Someone who might make it to Rio, Tom Daley, where else can

:04:08. > :04:11.you look up from your lengths to see an Olympic medallist in training? As

:04:12. > :04:15.well as bathing in Olympic glory, you can also bathe in natural

:04:16. > :04:19.light. They have installed 3000 square metres of windows since the

:04:20. > :04:27.Latics ended, giving inspirational views like this one. `` the

:04:28. > :04:34.Olympics. Knowing the Libyans and Paralympians Swamy, but more than

:04:35. > :04:41.that, it is a tremendous setting. `` knowing the Olympians and

:04:42. > :04:53.Paralympians swam here. Whether you swim or just splash is up to you.

:04:54. > :05:00.After Amy Lea dry night, tomorrow will have rain in the afternoon.

:05:01. > :05:13.Join me again at roughly the same time tomorrow on BBC One.

:05:14. > :05:20.Hello. For some of us, it was quite a decent state, some sunshine

:05:21. > :05:23.around, but not the case right now in Northern Ireland and parts of

:05:24. > :05:28.Scotland, chilly with some rain as well, you will have to warm yourself

:05:29. > :05:32.up a bit this evening. Rain on the way for tomorrow, this is the cloud

:05:33. > :05:35.streaming out of the Atlantic, this will be in place over our

:05:36. > :05:41.neighbourhood for most of tomorrow, you will need the umbrella. Here and

:05:42. > :05:44.now first of all, this cloud is bringing wet weather into Northern

:05:45. > :05:48.Ireland and western parts of Scotland, quite a chilly night, cold

:05:49. > :05:50.enough for hill snow across parts of Scotland. To the south of that,

:05:51. > :05:51.mainly rain and
