:00:00. > :00:00.four x 400 m relay team. That's it. We're back with the late

:00:00. > :00:00.news at 10pm. Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:00. > :00:16.Goodbye. Good evening and welcome.

:00:17. > :00:19.The Met Police say they're looking into the activities of an extremist

:00:20. > :00:23.cleric who was preaching in the streets of east London last weekend.

:00:24. > :00:28.Anjem Choudary is one of the founders of the banned Islamist

:00:29. > :00:32.organisation Al`Muhajiroun. He was part of a group of radicals calling

:00:33. > :00:38.for Sharia law in the UK, as Gareth Furby reports.

:00:39. > :00:43.A peaceful afternoon on the Kingsland Road in Dalston. But last

:00:44. > :00:51.weekend, for some people, it got a bit noisier. Embrace Islam today!

:00:52. > :00:55.The group, who call themselves Islamic activists, drove up and down

:00:56. > :00:59.in a van covered with statements and symbols, and a video of these events

:01:00. > :01:06.is now included on a website promoting Sharia law. A man from

:01:07. > :01:09.Walthamstow was one of around 30 people taking part. Our messages

:01:10. > :01:14.public. We want the whole of Britain to hear that there are Muslims

:01:15. > :01:18.living among them who reject capitalism and man`made law and

:01:19. > :01:22.believe in establishing Sharia law. Also appearing on the video is the

:01:23. > :01:28.radical preacher Anjem Choudary, whose previous Islamist group was

:01:29. > :01:32.banned by the Home Office. The question now is whether the van was

:01:33. > :01:39.carrying a logo which has been used by jihadists in cereal. An imam from

:01:40. > :01:45.North London says its meaning is peaceful. `` in Syria. But only if

:01:46. > :01:50.used in the right context. It is a declaration of faith emblem. They've

:01:51. > :01:56.hijacked it and they are using it and abusing it. In my view, they're

:01:57. > :02:01.desecrating it. It's like the BNP, a racist group in our country,

:02:02. > :02:06.hijacking the British flag. I think it's unfair to say that Al`Qaeda or

:02:07. > :02:11.others have a monopoly on that symbol. Today on the Kingsland Road,

:02:12. > :02:15.there were mixed opinions about such a road show. As long as it isn't

:02:16. > :02:20.provoking violence, I think it's fine. They should have freedom of

:02:21. > :02:24.speech. Why not? Everyone should have the opportunity to say what

:02:25. > :02:30.they want. Scotland Yard says it's aware there was an event here and

:02:31. > :02:33.dissemination of material. Police enquiries are now under way.

:02:34. > :02:37.Police investigating the shooting of a city trader at a station in Essex

:02:38. > :02:41.have arrested a man. Robin Clark was shot in the leg in the car park of

:02:42. > :02:44.Shenfield station in January by a gunman wearing a Balaklava. British

:02:45. > :02:47.Transport Police say a man from Essex has been arrested on suspicion

:02:48. > :02:55.of conspiracy to commit murder, and released on bail.

:02:56. > :02:57.Business owners in Islington say a new tax which will contribute

:02:58. > :03:01.towards late`night policing is unfair and damaging. It's the first

:03:02. > :03:06.borough in the capital to introduce a levy on licensed bars and

:03:07. > :03:09.restaurants. It says the money will go towards dealing with the problems

:03:10. > :03:17.related to the late`night economy. Charlotte Franks has the story.

:03:18. > :03:21.And evening drink at your local ` something many of us look forward to

:03:22. > :03:27.after a hard day. This bar in Islington relies on its regular

:03:28. > :03:29.customers and reasonable prices but managers say and reasonable prices

:03:30. > :03:33.but managers is a new council charged to be introduced later this

:03:34. > :03:40.year, to help combat alcohol fuelled crime, has given cause for concern.

:03:41. > :03:44.Possibly the price is going to go up and we'll basically lose lots of

:03:45. > :03:48.money. Licensed premises which continues to serve alcohol beyond

:03:49. > :03:52.midnight will be charged anything from ?300 to just over ?4000,

:03:53. > :03:58.depending on the size value of the business. But some of the pubs and

:03:59. > :04:02.bars here say that's unfair as they already pay a charge to fund ten

:04:03. > :04:08.police officers to patrol the borough at certain times of the day

:04:09. > :04:11.and night. It's an unfair tax. It's anti`business by a Labour council.

:04:12. > :04:19.We pay a levy already for extra street creaming and police ``

:04:20. > :04:23.cleaning. Over the last year, alcohol`related offences in

:04:24. > :04:26.Islington have dropped by 19% but despite this, the council still

:04:27. > :04:32.feels it necessary to introduce the levy. We have our late night economy

:04:33. > :04:35.in close proximity to a lot of residential areas so a lot of

:04:36. > :04:38.residents are very concerned about the levels of crime and disorder and

:04:39. > :04:43.disturbance from late`night drinking. Islington isn't the first

:04:44. > :04:47.borough in the country to introduce the levy. Similar schemes have

:04:48. > :04:51.already been adopted in Newcastle and Cheltenham, as they try to

:04:52. > :04:56.police the night`time economy under increasing budget pressures. Despite

:04:57. > :04:59.concerns from licensees in Islington, the council says the

:05:00. > :05:03.charge shouldn't impact on businesses too much. But that hasn't

:05:04. > :05:04.helped relieve concerns for this cocktail bar.

:05:05. > :05:12.We've had some lovely weather this weekend ` Elizabeth Rizzini can tell

:05:13. > :05:17.us if it's here to stay. Good evening. It's been the warmest day

:05:18. > :05:21.of the year so far ` 20 degrees in St James's Park and nearly 21

:05:22. > :05:27.degrees in Gravesend. For the week ahead, a cooler picture. It will be

:05:28. > :05:31.dry and bright overnight. Clear skies, temperatures down to seven or

:05:32. > :05:35.eight. To start the new working week, it's dry and bright with

:05:36. > :05:38.spells of sunshine through the morning. But things are going to

:05:39. > :05:42.cloud over and by the afternoon, cloudy everywhere. Some brightness

:05:43. > :05:48.emerging at times but temperatures are bit cooler than today's `

:05:49. > :05:51.between 12 and 15. It will stay dry through the rest of the working

:05:52. > :05:54.week. We'll see spells of sunshine at times and some chilly nights.

:05:55. > :05:57.That's it, we're back with more in the ten o'clock news. Enjoy your

:05:58. > :06:18.evening. Bye`bye. Aggro in good and Wales had warm

:06:19. > :06:22.weather today with the hotspot Gravesend in Kent.

:06:23. > :06:26.For Scotland and Ireland, your weather will improve this week. It

:06:27. > :06:31.wasn't there today with the cloud. Some rain in Northern Ireland

:06:32. > :06:36.pushing across more of Scotland and the next few hours. This weather

:06:37. > :06:38.front is moving south overnight but by the end of the night is nothing

:06:39. > :06:39.more than a bit of
