:00:14. > :00:17.Good evening. A massive redevelopment of Euston will form

:00:18. > :00:22.part of the plans for the ?50 billion HS2 project. The station

:00:23. > :00:25.will become the London hub for the high`speed rail link to the north.

:00:26. > :00:29.The decision has angered some people in the Camden area who say they will

:00:30. > :00:37.face years of disruption. Here's our transport correspondent Tom Edwards.

:00:38. > :00:43.Back to the drawing board again for Euston station. More expansive plans

:00:44. > :00:49.will now be considered. This area will already lose hundreds of homes

:00:50. > :00:54.and businesses to HS2. More uncertainty worries those who live

:00:55. > :00:59.here. We keep asking them but we never get the right answer from

:01:00. > :01:03.HS2, what they are going to do. We are still worried, the whole

:01:04. > :01:08.community is worried. The plan for a link between HS2 and beeline to the

:01:09. > :01:13.continent HS1 has also been chopped. Dash`macro the line. Building it

:01:14. > :01:19.would have caused huge disruption. The link might still be tunnelled

:01:20. > :01:21.but other ways for passengers to get between Euston and St Pancras will

:01:22. > :01:26.now be looked at. This is actually the third plan we have had for

:01:27. > :01:30.Euston station. The first was scrapped after the costs were

:01:31. > :01:36.falsely underestimated and concerns about disruption. Campaigners say it

:01:37. > :01:42.shows the whole scheme is badly thought out. I think it is a damning

:01:43. > :01:46.indictment about what HS2 have done so far. We have been arguing the

:01:47. > :01:50.plans would devastate Camden for years. 80% of the demolition and

:01:51. > :01:58.more of the construction in the first phase is in Camden. The Euston

:01:59. > :02:01.arch could be reinstated. Much of the funding will have to come from

:02:02. > :02:05.private developers and concerns remain. Because we do not live in

:02:06. > :02:11.the Chilterns, we are not being offered any compensation. The more

:02:12. > :02:15.the start date is put off, if HS2 ever does happen, the more people

:02:16. > :02:21.are saying, what will happen in two, three, five years time? HS2 will

:02:22. > :02:25.cost ?50 billion and make journeys quicker to and from the north. The

:02:26. > :02:31.government says it is needed to provide extra capacity and to boost

:02:32. > :02:34.the economy. You have to look at the plans carried through for King's

:02:35. > :02:39.Cross and four Saint pancreas and I think most people although they have

:02:40. > :02:41.lived with disruption and found it difficult are very pleased with what

:02:42. > :02:47.has been delivered. We need to deliver the same high`quality for

:02:48. > :02:54.Euston. The mayor has also welcomed the announcement. He wants a

:02:55. > :02:58.development in West London which is still part of the plan.

:02:59. > :03:01.Well, one of the areas affected is Camden. Alice Bhandhukravi was at a

:03:02. > :03:08.public meeting held there tonight. So, what was said? As we know, this

:03:09. > :03:13.project is last in scale, in terms of cost and in terms of the impact

:03:14. > :03:16.it will have. It is also hugely complicated. People tonight in

:03:17. > :03:22.Camden wanted to hear about how they should go about campaigns against

:03:23. > :03:24.HS2. The next task will be to organise petitions for a

:03:25. > :03:29.Parliamentary select committee to consider. There were many questions

:03:30. > :03:35.about how the process works. I spoke to one of the organisers of the

:03:36. > :03:40.campaign and asked him what he made of the developments. We are in a

:03:41. > :03:46.much better position today than yesterday. It is quite clear HS2 is

:03:47. > :03:50.in a state of confusion about the HS1 `HS2 link which they have had to

:03:51. > :03:56.pull. They are in confusion about what to do at Euston and the budget

:03:57. > :04:02.for the whole project. For all of those opposed to HS2, there are

:04:03. > :04:05.those who believe that the project could bring millions, billions of

:04:06. > :04:12.pounds worth of investment in terms of jobs and in terms of business

:04:13. > :04:16.that it could boost. What both sides are likely to agree on is the fact

:04:17. > :04:22.that HS2 is a long way off and plans are far from being finalised.

:04:23. > :04:25.Many thanks for that update. A convicted Mafia boss who's been

:04:26. > :04:28.living in London for 20 years walked free from court today after winning

:04:29. > :04:30.his battle against extradition to Italy. Domenico Rancadore was

:04:31. > :04:34.arrested in Uxbridge last year living under an assumed name. The

:04:35. > :04:42.BBC's legal correspondent Clive Coleman reports.

:04:43. > :04:49.Leaving court undercover, Domenico Rancadore and his British wife,

:04:50. > :04:52.after a significant victory. Oxbridge in suburban west London is

:04:53. > :05:01.perhaps the last place you would expect to find a member of the

:05:02. > :05:12.Sicilian Mafia. His crime family the Italian police said work involved in

:05:13. > :05:17.extortion, drug trafficking. He was known as The Professor. Despite two

:05:18. > :05:22.acquittals in Italian courts, in 1999 he was convert it in his

:05:23. > :05:27.absence and sentenced to seven years. His quiet suburban life came

:05:28. > :05:31.to an abrupt end last August when Lisa arrived here with an arrest

:05:32. > :05:37.warrant. He has been in custody and fighting extradition until today ``

:05:38. > :05:41.when police arrived here. The judge said he had originally decided to

:05:42. > :05:45.order his extradition, satisfied with assurances from the Italian

:05:46. > :05:48.authorities about its prison system. In a dramatic turnaround, he

:05:49. > :05:54.said a judgement from the High Court just last week meant that those

:05:55. > :05:57.assurances were now simply too vague. The general assurance as to

:05:58. > :06:01.whether he would be held are insufficient and because of the

:06:02. > :06:06.systemic problems they have in their Italian prison system they must give

:06:07. > :06:10.specific assurances as to where people are held and the conditions

:06:11. > :06:13.in which they will be held. The Italian authorities have said they

:06:14. > :06:20.intend to appeal. The convicted Sicilian Matt `` Mafia man arrived

:06:21. > :06:26.home to resume his quiet suburban life in Uxbridge.

:06:27. > :06:29.Just before the weather, a quick reminder tonight's Late Kick`Off has

:06:30. > :06:31.a round up of all the Football League action, including Charlton's

:06:32. > :06:40.captain talking about their new manager. That's at 11.25pm here on

:06:41. > :06:42.BBC One. I'll wish you a very good night and hand you over to Wendy

:06:43. > :06:52.who's got the weather for us. The start of the week apart from a

:06:53. > :06:55.little blip tomorrow will be generally fine. It will go downhill

:06:56. > :06:59.through the week. At the moment, there is a fair amount of cloud, as

:07:00. > :07:08.there has been throughout the day. Some thicker bits might give a spot

:07:09. > :07:13.or two of rain. It will be frost free tonight. Tomorrow, rather grey

:07:14. > :07:17.note to start. Some bright spells through the day. Another thicker

:07:18. > :07:23.band of cloud ghost in the afternoon. But may introduce one or

:07:24. > :07:27.two light showers once again. A little more sunshine in the

:07:28. > :07:28.afternoon. On the outlook, the warmer sunniest day is probably

:07:29. > :07:34.going to be Wednesday. going to be Wednesday. Unsettled

:07:35. > :07:39.from there on in. More on that now with the UK forecast.

:07:40. > :07:45.A frost free night across the whole of the UK across the whole of the

:07:46. > :07:52.UK. Winds will strengthen tomorrow. Showers around. They will pep up as

:07:53. > :07:55.we go through the end of the night. More significantly across parts of

:07:56. > :08:02.Northern Ireland and into western Scotland. A little bit patchy rain

:08:03. > :08:04.further. Most places staying dry. Plenty of cloud. Temperatures

:08:05. > :08:11.Tuesday, seven or eight degrees to start. Fairly cloudy with the main

:08:12. > :08:14.focus of the wet weather across the north-west. Showers feeding in

:08:15. > :08:20.across parts of Scotland. Could be on the heavy side with the small

:08:21. > :08:23.chance of the odd rumble of thunder. Showers across Northern Ireland and

:08:24. > :08:27.into northern England. Further south, although it is quite

:08:28. > :08:28.overcast, most places should be
