:00:13. > :00:19.Good evening. The leader of a gang who stole more than ?1 millhon from

:00:20. > :00:22.high street bank computers has been jailed for more than five ydars

:00:23. > :00:25.Tony Colston`Haytor, who made his fortune running so`called acid raves

:00:26. > :00:29.in the 1980s, ran a gang whhch also intercepted credit cards sent to

:00:30. > :00:36.customers through the post. Nick Beake reports.

:00:37. > :00:44.They turned up claiming that they were from IT, here to fix the

:00:45. > :00:48.computer. But these men werd in fact setting up a massive cyber `ttack on

:00:49. > :00:52.London's banks. They walked into branches in Swiss Cottage and Surrey

:00:53. > :00:56.Quays after accomplices had smoothed away over the phone, and pltgged in

:00:57. > :01:03.an electronic device. It allowed them to log on elsewhere and steal a

:01:04. > :01:08.huge amount of money. For the first offence, ?1.25 million was stolen, a

:01:09. > :01:11.massive amount of money. Obviously we continue to investigate this

:01:12. > :01:16.group, and we are aware that there were two other occasions, and the

:01:17. > :01:20.third time, we were able to affect an arrest. If we hadn't, thhs group

:01:21. > :01:23.would have gone on and condtcted further attacks upon the banks, and

:01:24. > :01:26.would have stolen many more millions of pounds.

:01:27. > :01:32.At the heart of it all, 48`xear`old drug addict Tony Colston`Haxtor

:01:33. > :01:38.jailed today for 5.5 years. He made his fortune in the 80s holdhng acid

:01:39. > :01:41.house raves across the south`east. The guests can dance all night and

:01:42. > :01:45.we go on until ten of luck hn the morning. There is no club in London

:01:46. > :01:51.that you can dance all night in The judge said Crystal Method bdcome one

:01:52. > :01:56.of Tony Colston`Haytor's mahn addictions, although over the years

:01:57. > :02:04.he had tried many mind altering substances. Tony Colston`Haxtor had

:02:05. > :02:11.been at the hub of this operation, although it was masterminded from

:02:12. > :02:14.Nigeria. At a flat in Maryldbone, detectives found hundreds of credit

:02:15. > :02:22.cards that had been intercepted in the post. These men posed as bank

:02:23. > :02:24.staff and called customers to get their pin numbers. They then

:02:25. > :02:30.purchased goods worth more than ?1 million. This cyber crime w`s at an

:02:31. > :02:32.sophisticated, but also relhed upon barefaced lying, after simply

:02:33. > :02:36.strolling into the banks' front door.

:02:37. > :02:39.Police have carried out a sdries of raids in east London followhng a BBC

:02:40. > :02:43.London investigation into shops willing to deal in stolen

:02:44. > :02:51.smartphones. Our reporter M`rc Ashdown joins us. What more can you

:02:52. > :02:53.tell us? Traders in Ilford bought Samsungs and iPhones from an

:02:54. > :02:57.undercover researcher posing as a thief. London Mobiles Limitdd and

:02:58. > :03:01.one other shop both paid cash for the devices, despite the researcher

:03:02. > :03:04.making it clear they were stolen. Now officers from the National

:03:05. > :03:09.Mobile Phone Crime Unit havd raided both shops, along with a thhrd

:03:10. > :03:11.business. A nearby residenthal address was also searched. Officers

:03:12. > :03:16.found a laptop and two smartphones, all of which are suspected to have

:03:17. > :03:19.been stolen. A 33`year`old lan was arrested on suspicion of handling

:03:20. > :03:22.stolen goods and taken to a central London police station. He h`s been

:03:23. > :03:28.bailed pending further enquhries. The BBC understands the suspect has

:03:29. > :03:33.links to all three businessds. Thanks very much for that.

:03:34. > :03:36.15 people have been arrested by City of London Police in connecthon with

:03:37. > :03:39.what has been called a fake Californian gold racket.

:03:40. > :03:42.Investigators claim they uncovered evidence of people handing over

:03:43. > :03:47.six`figure sums for what thdy believed were mining rights. The

:03:48. > :03:51.scam is thought to have been run from an office near Bishopsgate

:03:52. > :03:55.There's growing anger in parts of north London following clails that

:03:56. > :04:02.some residents are not recehving their post. Just over a fortnight

:04:03. > :04:05.ago we reported that one wolan retrieved hundreds of letters dumped

:04:06. > :04:08.in bushes in Brent. TNT inshsts it is providing a good service and that

:04:09. > :04:14.the incidents are isolated. Here's Jean Mackenzie.

:04:15. > :04:20.Gone are the days of waiting for the postman. Deliveries at this

:04:21. > :04:23.cul`de`sac in Mill Hill are in our little less routine. Sometiles

:04:24. > :04:29.arriving late at night, somdtimes not at all. Deliveries at odd times,

:04:30. > :04:36.to deliveries a day, which hs unheard of, especially around here,

:04:37. > :04:42.or every other day. And delhveries at nine o'clock at night, obviously

:04:43. > :04:45.coming from a neighbour. Since TNT started delivering here, two of

:04:46. > :04:50.Alexandra's bank statements have not turned up. It is worrying, because I

:04:51. > :04:55.don't know where my bank st`tements. They could be in the bin, or in

:04:56. > :05:00.someone else's door. They could be in the wrong hands. This isn't

:05:01. > :05:04.confined to Mill Hill. Therd are anecdotes coming from north and West

:05:05. > :05:06.London have similar problems, some stories of post for a whole street

:05:07. > :05:11.being delivered through just one door. And this is just one of a

:05:12. > :05:17.number of complaints receivdd by the area's assembly member. One lady

:05:18. > :05:22.complained to me that a letter she had been waiting for from the

:05:23. > :05:28.hospital took days to arrivd. People complain about bank statements and

:05:29. > :05:33.other sensitive post being left in an unlocked bicycle. TNT delivers

:05:34. > :05:38.for a number of private bushnesses, including banks, and also the NHS.

:05:39. > :05:42.In three years, it wants to be delivering 40% of the UK's lail

:05:43. > :05:45.Last month, more than 200 ldtters were found dumped in a bush in a

:05:46. > :05:50.west London park. They should have been delivered by TNT. Earlher,

:05:51. > :05:54.those in the postal industrx voice their fears. I don't think they know

:05:55. > :05:59.where they are going. The anecdotes you hear from various places, they

:06:00. > :06:03.look like they are lost. Thdy will actually ask individual postman wary

:06:04. > :06:08.certain addresses. I would definitely refute that. We have

:06:09. > :06:14.seven stages of training. Wd map all of our rounds. We train our postmen.

:06:15. > :06:17.We operate a buddy system. Nobody goes out with actual mail bdfore

:06:18. > :06:20.they have walked around. Those in Mill Hill are now worried about

:06:21. > :06:22.their summer holidays, and what will happen when they are not around to

:06:23. > :06:31.carry out their mini deliveries Well, it is good night for le. Now

:06:32. > :06:36.let's check on the weather with Tomasz Schafernaker.

:06:37. > :06:41.Good evening. Fairly quiet `cross the capital now across the weather

:06:42. > :06:50.front, but for tomorrow, we will need our umbrellas, potenti`lly with

:06:51. > :06:53.thunderstorms around later on. It will start off Sharia and cloudy.

:06:54. > :06:59.This is the scene as we go through the course of the night. A little

:07:00. > :07:06.mist and fog forming by the early hours, too. You can see the rain

:07:07. > :07:08.gathering across Kent, and was we go through the course of the morning,

:07:09. > :07:16.the showers will trundle aw`y across London. Maybe a flash of lightning.

:07:17. > :07:22.But it isn't all bad. Temperatures could just about reach 20 Cdlsius.

:07:23. > :07:26.And then tomorrow evening, xou can see these lime`green colour is here.

:07:27. > :07:29.Potential thunderstorms on the way. The outlook as we head into the

:07:30. > :07:36.weekend, you can see what is going on. Sunday might be brighter. Now

:07:37. > :07:39.over to Louise Lear for the national weather.

:07:40. > :07:43.Good evening. Today has been a day of sunny spells and a few scattered

:07:44. > :07:47.showers, but where we see the sunshine, we have also seen some

:07:48. > :07:51.warmth, with temperatures in the high teens. A slightly disappointing

:07:52. > :07:52.story across the far north-east of
