:00:13. > :00:17.Good evening. London's two biggest airports have revised their
:00:18. > :00:20.expansion plans in a bid to build the UK's next runway. Heathrow has
:00:21. > :00:23.increased its compensation package for those who'll lose their home,
:00:24. > :00:29.while Gatwick says its plan would keep fares low. Both say their
:00:30. > :00:31.proposals will create thousands of jobs. The Airports Commission will
:00:32. > :00:35.make its recommendation after the next general election. Here's our
:00:36. > :00:45.Transport Correspondent, Tom Edwards. Heathrow and Gatwick
:00:46. > :00:50.airports now locked in a battle over who should get a new runway, with
:00:51. > :00:58.both claiming they will provide over 100,000 jobs and big economic
:00:59. > :01:03.benefits. In its final submission to the government's commission, a
:01:04. > :01:11.revised plan for a third runway at Heathrow and part of the offer, more
:01:12. > :01:15.compensation to homeowners. It delivers ?100 billion of growth, it
:01:16. > :01:20.has more support from the local community of an opposition from the
:01:21. > :01:24.local community. Another option that has been short listed is to extend
:01:25. > :01:30.and split another runway at Heathrow. Many question whether an
:01:31. > :01:34.expansion is needed at all. They think it will mean more noise and
:01:35. > :01:39.pollution. Initially the plan was to put the runway through this village,
:01:40. > :01:43.now the proposal is to put it further to the south. It does mean
:01:44. > :01:48.this 12th century church will be saved, however hundreds of homes to
:01:49. > :01:53.the south will still be demolished and the M25 will have to be put in
:01:54. > :01:59.the tunnel. Some believe it is the uncertainty that is the most
:02:00. > :02:05.damaging. The area would cease to be the community we know it to be
:02:06. > :02:10.today. My view is that they should let people know whether this is
:02:11. > :02:14.going to happen or not. Gatwick says another runway here would disrupt
:02:15. > :02:19.fewer people and be delivered earlier than Heathrow's at no
:02:20. > :02:25.additional cost to the taxpayer. This would really make sure the UK
:02:26. > :02:31.has the airport capacity it needs, and make sure we have a truly
:02:32. > :02:34.competitive airport market. An estuary airport could still be an
:02:35. > :02:41.option and whilst most expected to be dropped, the mayor who backs it
:02:42. > :02:46.is still confident. Having exhausted all the alternatives, this country
:02:47. > :02:54.will eventually do the right thing for long`term prosperity and give
:02:55. > :02:57.ourselves the airport that we need. Any recommendations from the
:02:58. > :03:01.commission will not be until after the next election, even then there
:03:02. > :03:05.is no guarantee that politicians will act on it. Many in the industry
:03:06. > :03:11.fear this is an expensive delaying tactic.
:03:12. > :03:14.A cyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a lorry
:03:15. > :03:17.in Elephant and Castle. It happened this afternoon. The driver has been
:03:18. > :03:20.arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. In a
:03:21. > :03:22.separate incident in the City this evening, another cyclist is in
:03:23. > :03:29.hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a tipper
:03:30. > :03:32.truck on Upper Thames Street. Nearby roads have been closed off.
:03:33. > :03:35.A former head of a North London school has been banned from teaching
:03:36. > :03:38.after fiddling her expenses. Jo Shuter spent thousands of pounds of
:03:39. > :03:41.school cash on herself and her family. She was found guilty of
:03:42. > :03:42.unacceptable professional conduct while working at Quintin Kynaston
:03:43. > :03:55.School. Katharine Carpenter reports. Once the toast of the teaching
:03:56. > :04:03.world, now banned from the classroom. In a dramatic fall from
:04:04. > :04:07.grace, Jo Shuter CBE admitted owning ?28,000 for public speaking in
:04:08. > :04:12.school time, spending around ?7,000 of school funding on her own 50th
:04:13. > :04:18.birthday party, and having furniture for the school worth around ?1500 to
:04:19. > :04:22.her home. She also claimed the personal taxes and mobile phone
:04:23. > :04:31.contracts for her and her family. Today conduct panel found that:
:04:32. > :04:40.She is now being given a prohibition order forbidding her from teaching.
:04:41. > :04:46.I think it should be a reminder to all teachers and head teachers the
:04:47. > :04:51.importance of upholding the highest possible standards. How can people
:04:52. > :04:56.whose job it is in life to provide the right kind of example for young
:04:57. > :05:00.people not understand that in so doing they need to behave properly
:05:01. > :05:05.and in a manner which any member of the public would expect them to
:05:06. > :05:09.behave? In a further blow Jo Shuter has been told she cannot ask to be
:05:10. > :05:13.reinstated at any time in the future, but she can still appeal at
:05:14. > :05:16.the High Court. And we can join Katharine outside
:05:17. > :05:22.the Department for Education. How unusual is this action? Tonight the
:05:23. > :05:28.Department for Education told me that 16 London`based teachers have
:05:29. > :05:33.been given these prohibition orders since April 2012. I think now the
:05:34. > :05:37.focus of this will be on minimising the impact of Jo Shuter's current
:05:38. > :05:42.pupils because after she resigned from Quintin Kynaston School she got
:05:43. > :05:46.a new job as head of King Solomon high school in Ilford. Tonight it
:05:47. > :05:54.sent a letter to parents and staff saying Jo Shuter had been suspended
:05:55. > :05:59.with immediate effect. So far, no word on all of this from Jo Shuter
:06:00. > :06:02.herself. OK, thank you. An innovative
:06:03. > :06:05.gardening therapy unit has opened at a military rehabilitation centre in
:06:06. > :06:07.Epsom. Based at Headley Court, it's designed to help injured servicemen
:06:08. > :06:11.recover their strength, mobility and co`ordination. Some of their plants
:06:12. > :06:19.will be going on display at this year's Chelsea Flower Show, which
:06:20. > :06:25.starts a week today. It is a nice change from the clinical physio that
:06:26. > :06:30.we do, it is nice and relaxing. Not only is it mentally relaxing but
:06:31. > :06:33.also it gets you up and about without realising it, which is
:06:34. > :06:37.actually good physio. That's all from me, so I'll wish you a very
:06:38. > :06:45.goodnigh and hand you over to Wendy for the weather. Still one or two
:06:46. > :06:50.showers around at the moment, but they will clear away starting some
:06:51. > :06:55.sunny weather this week. It will become warmer day by day. At the
:06:56. > :07:00.moment we still have some showers dotted around. After midnight, we
:07:01. > :07:04.are mostly clear of them. There will be some fog patches around first
:07:05. > :07:11.thing tomorrow and these temperatures are little misleading,
:07:12. > :07:16.five degrees is more typical, and in a prone spot it might get a touch of
:07:17. > :07:21.frost. A chilly start of the day tomorrow but there will be plenty of
:07:22. > :07:24.sunshine and light winds so the temperature will pick up to
:07:25. > :07:29.something like 19 degrees in the centre of London tomorrow, feeling
:07:30. > :07:36.pleasant. Maybe some showers tomorrow evening, but a sunny
:07:37. > :07:42.outlook, although it might start to breakdown in some places at the
:07:43. > :07:47.weekend. Today the weather was the sort of weather where it couldn't
:07:48. > :07:49.really make its mind up. It changed from hour to
