:00:00. > :00:00.finish one ahead of Shane Lowry of Ireland. And that is all the sport.

:00:00. > :00:00.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel. We are back

:00:00. > :00:00.with the late news at 10:30pm. Now on BBC One it's time for the news

:00:07. > :00:18.where you are. Goodbye. Good evening. Welcome to BBC London

:00:19. > :00:21.News. Labour claim their local election

:00:22. > :00:25.gains in London show them on track to win back key parliamentary seats

:00:26. > :00:27.next year. But the Conservatives say they will not prove that

:00:28. > :00:31.significant, as the agenda returns to issues like the economy and

:00:32. > :00:34.leadership. As we've heard, the results of the European elections

:00:35. > :00:36.will be known this evening. This from our political editor, Tim

:00:37. > :00:39.Donovan. Having lost councils like Croydon

:00:40. > :00:42.and Hammersmith and Fulham, the Conservatives are stressing in the

:00:43. > :00:44.one that really counts next year, voters will have different

:00:45. > :00:47.priorities. What we have is a position whereby the Liberal

:00:48. > :00:57.Democrat vote went away in large parts of London. Then it was a

:00:58. > :01:01.straight vote between us and the Labour Party and the choice we are

:01:02. > :01:04.going to put is simple, do you want Ed Miliband in Number Ten, or do you

:01:05. > :01:08.want David Cameron? With five Labour gains, the capital's Town Hall map

:01:09. > :01:10.may have changed significantly. But Labour was drawing further

:01:11. > :01:13.encouragement from polling on what this would mean in marginal seats

:01:14. > :01:16.next year. In the marginal constituencies which are currently

:01:17. > :01:21.held by the Tories or the Lib Dems that we want to win, our sense is,

:01:22. > :01:24.we are making progress there and we are getting more councillors. There

:01:25. > :01:29.was little consolation anywhere for the Liberal Democrats, who lost more

:01:30. > :01:34.than half their 330 councillors. Could it be a make or break year

:01:35. > :01:37.ahead? The two big issues which people in London feel angry about

:01:38. > :01:40.the widening gap between the very rich and the rest and the fact that

:01:41. > :01:44.most people on normal incomes cannot afford housing in London. And if we

:01:45. > :01:49.could address those issues better as a government over the next year

:01:50. > :01:52.we'll do much better. UKIP had hoped to start following that script for

:01:53. > :01:56.smaller parties previously written by the Lib Dems, get a foothold in

:01:57. > :02:01.local government, build from there. That happened just outside London.

:02:02. > :02:05.But no platform to speak of materialised inside. In 2010 we put

:02:06. > :02:09.up less than 100 candidates. We put up more than 450 this time. If you

:02:10. > :02:12.look at the results, in the key areas we were targeting we often

:02:13. > :02:15.come as the runner`up. These elections have made London once

:02:16. > :02:19.again a predominantly straight to party fight, but as the re`election

:02:20. > :02:28.of an independent mayor in Tower Hamlets showed, there is always

:02:29. > :02:31.scope for more. West London football club, Queens

:02:32. > :02:34.Park Rangers have been celebrating their return to the Premier League

:02:35. > :02:37.at their Loftus Road ground today. They beat Derby County 1`0 in the

:02:38. > :02:39.Championship play`off final yesterday to return to football's

:02:40. > :02:47.top flight just one season after they were relegated. Emma North has

:02:48. > :02:53.more. They don't call this the most lucrative game for nothing. Bobby

:02:54. > :02:59.Zamora's last chance, last`minute goal against Derby County mean next

:03:00. > :03:02.season, QPR will be ?80 million better off in the Premier league.

:03:03. > :03:09.This morning, sore heads were forgotten as fans of all sizes and

:03:10. > :03:17.breeds came to celebrate. Premier League. It means everything because

:03:18. > :03:20.that is where you want to be playing the best teams in the world in the

:03:21. > :03:29.Premier league. It is going to be buzzing again. All the kids, the

:03:30. > :03:36.schools do well out of it. It is the best thing in the world. But did QPR

:03:37. > :03:39.need the cash? They were saddled with losses of ?64.5 million last

:03:40. > :03:46.season and their wage bill was higher than last night's Champions'

:03:47. > :03:50.League finalists, Atletico Madrid. They know how close they came to

:03:51. > :03:55.being in real trouble and know what they have got to do. It has been

:03:56. > :04:00.tough and a lot of lessons have been learned. At the guys will use the

:04:01. > :04:03.last couple of years of experience. Today is about celebration but

:04:04. > :04:10.Loftus Road is in a part of London with problems. How will this

:04:11. > :04:13.promotion help the local community? Working with the community, we give

:04:14. > :04:20.tickets to people who cannot afford to come to games. Now they will come

:04:21. > :04:25.to see Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie here in Shepherd's Bush. It

:04:26. > :04:33.is amazing. The Premier League has been called the land of milk, honey

:04:34. > :04:40.and millions. And in the sunshine today it felt as if some of it had

:04:41. > :04:48.spilled over into Shepherd's Bush. Meanwhile it was hard right for

:04:49. > :04:54.Leyton orient this afternoon. They missed the decisive penalty meaning

:04:55. > :05:02.rather go up to the championship. Now let's get the weather.

:05:03. > :05:09.Good evening. I hope you have been enjoying the sunshine. But at

:05:10. > :05:13.midnight things change. We have clad building and rain pushing from the

:05:14. > :05:19.south. Probably similar temperatures to last night going down to ten or

:05:20. > :05:24.11 Celsius. Tomorrow is a cloudy start. Showers for any of us at any

:05:25. > :05:28.time. In the afternoon they turn heavy and thundery. In between

:05:29. > :05:33.Wimbledon will see the best of any sunshine. Heavy showers for the

:05:34. > :05:38.afternoon and temperatures perhaps making it into the low 20s. And that

:05:39. > :05:45.will only be if you are innocent shine in the afternoon. On Tuesday,

:05:46. > :05:48.things go downhill dramatically. Looking at a wet week and there will

:05:49. > :05:55.be a chilly breeze. That's it from me and the team by

:05:56. > :05:57.now. We are back at 10:50pm. Until then, do enjoy the rest of your

:05:58. > :06:15.evening. Good evening. Some of us had a

:06:16. > :06:21.pretty good soaking. It downpours around with thunder and lightning.

:06:22. > :06:23.It wasn't so bad everywhere. The satellite picture across the

:06:24. > :06:29.Midlands, East Anglia and the south coast, the Isle of Wight. A

:06:30. > :06:32.beautiful end to the day. You can see further west and north and that

:06:33. > :06:33.is where the storm clouds will
