:00:00. > :00:12.Joe Wilson reports. That's all from us.

:00:13. > :00:21.A multi`million pound recycling plant has opened in Surrey

:00:22. > :00:24.which will use tonnes of food waste to generate power

:00:25. > :00:26.for thousands of homes across south London and Surrey.

:00:27. > :00:29.But one charity fears that the facility will discouragd

:00:30. > :00:31.supermarkets and shops from giving away left over produce

:00:32. > :00:43.Our Environment Correspondent, Tom Edwards reports.

:00:44. > :00:51.Every year in London it is dstimated nearly 1 million tonnes of hs thrown

:00:52. > :00:57.away. But here in Chelsea, they pride themselves in low waist. This

:00:58. > :01:02.machine has saved them thousands. It was one of the key factors we wanted

:01:03. > :01:07.to involve in our business, how we would produce the waist. Many are

:01:08. > :01:13.not as conscientious and thhs is where some food waste ends tp at

:01:14. > :01:20.this digester implant in Surrey Instead of sending it to landfill,

:01:21. > :01:25.food waste is converted into gas and fertiliser. This is mainly food

:01:26. > :01:32.waste from recycling bins. There is a lot of plastic in there. @ huge

:01:33. > :01:39.plastic mountain. The company has two strip out these contaminants.

:01:40. > :01:45.Water bottles, toothpaste ttbes are getting into the recycling. Not

:01:46. > :01:50.everyone is so keen on this new emerging industry. This charity

:01:51. > :01:57.things businesses like supermarkets are being paid too much to send

:01:58. > :02:03.edible food away to be turndd two energy. The point we are making as

:02:04. > :02:06.a higher priority than that, when that food is fit for human

:02:07. > :02:17.consumption is to get it to people in need. Others say we should be

:02:18. > :02:23.reducing waste. Less is the message. You will save yourself monex and

:02:24. > :02:27.protect the environment. Thhs plant is only the second in the

:02:28. > :02:35.south`east. The energy generated power is 4000 homes. The industry

:02:36. > :02:39.says the subsidies are fair. There is little food that come here these

:02:40. > :02:44.days that is genuine waste `nd could be eaten. The government sahd

:02:45. > :02:49.surplus food should be conshdered for human consumption first before

:02:50. > :02:53.energy. More of these plants are planned which will mean mord

:02:54. > :02:58.arguments over who does what with the capital's waist.

:02:59. > :03:02.The Kenyan government has l`unched an investigation into a possible

:03:03. > :03:03.sighting of a British woman wanted in connection with terrorisl.

:03:04. > :03:07.Samantha Lewthwaite is the widow of 7/7 bomber, Jermaine Lindsay

:03:08. > :03:09.She's the subject of an Intdrpol arrest warrant in connection with

:03:10. > :03:11.possessing explosives and plotting to attack tourist resorts.

:03:12. > :03:18.It's claimed she tried to cross from Kenya into Somalia.

:03:19. > :03:22.A cyclist who was killed in a collision with a lorry in central

:03:23. > :03:27.Tafsir Butt, who was 52 and from Battersda,

:03:28. > :03:29.died at Vauxhall yesterday lorning and is the sixth cyclist de`th

:03:30. > :03:35.Transport for London says the junction is due to be rddesigned

:03:36. > :03:43.The team looking for Gareth Huntley, the backpacker from Cricklewood

:03:44. > :03:45.who's gone missing in Malaysia say they've discovered

:03:46. > :03:48.new clues and are now focushng their search on a smaller area.

:03:49. > :03:49.The 34`year`old disappeared a week ago

:03:50. > :03:55.His mother has joined the search team returning to where

:03:56. > :04:02.A plan's been unveiled to b`n cars and lorries from one of the

:04:03. > :04:07.It's all part of a multi`million pound project to transform

:04:08. > :04:23.A typical evening on Tottenham Court Road where traffic is noisy and

:04:24. > :04:28.hi`fi computer and furniturd stores. But Camden Council hopes it can look

:04:29. > :04:35.like this. The current one`way system will be replaced with two way

:04:36. > :04:40.traffic flows, wider pavements and cycle lanes. I'm jarring per day

:04:41. > :04:43.from Monday to Saturday, only buses, bicycles, pedestrians and

:04:44. > :04:52.local traffic will be allowdd access. There is a lot of problems

:04:53. > :05:03.in this area with traffic domination and air pollution. It is not easy to

:05:04. > :05:05.get around for people. We w`nt to transform it for those reasons.

:05:06. > :05:07.Boost the business offer in this area. There is also a plan for a new

:05:08. > :05:10.park called Alfred Place. And students may get a larger crossing

:05:11. > :05:15.and cycle lanes to cope with two`way traffic. On Tottenham Court Road

:05:16. > :05:23.today, there were mixed opinions about the plan or restricted use. It

:05:24. > :05:27.is a lovely road, so I am stre it is an advantage. It has got to be

:05:28. > :05:37.weighed up with how long it is open for. It would seem like a good idea.

:05:38. > :05:40.But I do drive in London as well. If I am coming this way in the car it

:05:41. > :05:43.might be difficult. An absolute nightmare. Puts pressure on the

:05:44. > :05:51.other roads. The hope is to create a new commercial, academic water per

:05:52. > :05:52.London. But these plans that to get through a public consultation which

:05:53. > :05:56.will start next week. Around 60 Chinese companies have

:05:57. > :05:59.said they plan to set up their European headquarters at

:06:00. > :06:01.a new business park in Docklands. It means around a fifth

:06:02. > :06:06.of the office space has alrdady been taken at the proposed

:06:07. > :06:08.Royal Albert Dock development. Negotiations are continuing

:06:09. > :06:11.between Chinese company ABP and Newham Council

:06:12. > :06:15.about the quantity and affordability That's all from me,

:06:16. > :06:35.so now the weather. It is a wet forecast. Rain through

:06:36. > :06:40.much of the day tomorrow. The rain has been moving towards us from the

:06:41. > :06:47.South courtesy of this low pressure. It is not too far away from us just

:06:48. > :06:53.now. With us all by rush hotr. Then, it keeps going through the

:06:54. > :07:02.day. Not a cold start but bdcause of the rain and this cloud,

:07:03. > :07:06.temperatures will be suppressed Breaks in the rain as we go through

:07:07. > :07:09.the middle part of the day. 15 Celsius and then a second bdlt of

:07:10. > :07:14.wet weather comes through as we go through the second half of the day.

:07:15. > :07:22.So for the evening weather, more wet weather. Then we have a nicd day in

:07:23. > :07:25.prospect for Thursday. A re`l change on the horizon because as wd go into

:07:26. > :07:30.the weekend, we draw up a lot of warm, if not hot air and

:07:31. > :07:31.temperatures are on the risd. In the outlook, we have some thunddrstorms

:07:32. > :07:32.this Saturday. outlook, we have some thunderstorms

:07:33. > :07:45.this Saturday. Interest ring aggression of weather

:07:46. > :07:52.for the rest of this week which could end up as a crescendo on

:07:53. > :07:54.Saturday involving heavy rain. Rain in the shorter term forecast,

:07:55. > :07:56.heading in from the
