:00:00. > :00:13.looks back at his life and career. Rik Mayall, who died this

:00:14. > :00:26.A man who had ammonia sprayed in his face in what is thought to have been

:00:27. > :00:28.a homophobic attack says he fears he may never see again.

:00:29. > :00:31.He was one of three men attacked outside a nightclub in Vauxhall in

:00:32. > :00:33.the early hours of yesterday morning.

:00:34. > :00:34.Police are looking for a man who was caught on CCTV.

:00:35. > :00:43.Guy Smith reports. This is the suspect police are

:00:44. > :00:48.looking for. The assaults took place in an area south of the river in

:00:49. > :00:54.Lambeth. Well`known for its gay night life. It was 4am, just outside

:00:55. > :00:58.this nightclub, two men were verbally abused before being

:00:59. > :01:04.attacked with what police believe was ammonia. A third man was sprayed

:01:05. > :01:09.in the face, not far from here. Using such a highly toxic substance,

:01:10. > :01:14.the victims were lucky to escape serious injury. I think it is

:01:15. > :01:22.shocking. It is disbelief. It is a horrible thing to happen to anyone.

:01:23. > :01:26.It's a hate crime at its worst. In London homophobic crime has gone up

:01:27. > :01:32.by almost 7%. Apart from Westminster, Lambeth, where the

:01:33. > :01:36.latest attack happened, has the worst record. The two incidents we

:01:37. > :01:42.are treating as a linked incident. They are being treated as a

:01:43. > :01:45.homophobic offence. Lambeth is a wonderful place to be. London is

:01:46. > :01:50.said to be one of the most diverse cities in the world with a vibrant

:01:51. > :01:54.gay clubbing scene, but there is concern that many hate crimes go

:01:55. > :02:05.unreported whether that's verbal abuse and harassment or physical

:02:06. > :02:09.assault. We know gay people experience hate crimes. Following

:02:10. > :02:12.the events of the weekend, gay people around South London and

:02:13. > :02:16.Vauxhall in particular are likely to feel concerned.

:02:17. > :02:21.Detectives were originally looking for this man along with two female

:02:22. > :02:23.suspects. This afternoon two women came forward and are now helping

:02:24. > :02:35.with inquiries. The Metropolitan Police and the

:02:36. > :02:38.Crown Prosecution Service have announced an independent review into

:02:39. > :02:40.how the justice system handles allegations of rape. The Met

:02:41. > :02:42.Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan`Howe, said some officers may

:02:43. > :02:44.be "unconsciously biased" when dealing with rape cases.

:02:45. > :02:50.Tarah Welsh is outside Scotland Yard.

:02:51. > :02:55.This review is supposed to be an independent examination of the way

:02:56. > :03:00.the Crown Prosecution Service and the Metropolitan Police deal with

:03:01. > :03:04.sexual offences. Now, this is not the first review we have seen like

:03:05. > :03:08.this. There was one back in 2010 after mistakes were made in the

:03:09. > :03:14.investigation of rapist taxi driver, John Worboys. Now, in 2010 that

:03:15. > :03:21.court called for better care of rape victims. So why this and why now?

:03:22. > :03:24.Well, 80% of victims of sexual offences are believed not to come

:03:25. > :03:31.forward and the commissioner says that shows a distrust in the justice

:03:32. > :03:35.system. He says that some rape investigators weren't always as

:03:36. > :03:40.sympathetic as they should be and the police didn't deal very well

:03:41. > :03:44.with some vulnerable victims. He says things are better now than they

:03:45. > :03:48.were 20 years ago though. We expect the findings to be announced next

:03:49. > :03:52.year and hopefully they will shed light on how the justice system can

:03:53. > :03:59.deal with the offences in a better way.

:04:00. > :04:03.Inspectors have criticised an Islamic primary school in Luton

:04:04. > :04:06.after books with fundamentalist views were found in the library. The

:04:07. > :04:09.Olive Tree School was also judged by Ofsted as not doing enough to

:04:10. > :04:12.promote other cultures and beliefs. It comes on the day that six

:04:13. > :04:15.Birmingham schools were put in to special measures for failing to

:04:16. > :04:17.protect pupils from extremism. Neil Bradford reports.

:04:18. > :04:25.This review is supposed to be an independent examination of the

:04:26. > :04:32.When Ofsted inspectors visited they raised a number of concerns. Today

:04:33. > :04:36.inspectors rated this school as inadequate. Top of their concerns,

:04:37. > :04:40.the lack of teaching about different cultures and faiths.

:04:41. > :04:45.Claims the school reject. We have had people from the church, from

:04:46. > :04:50.other faith communities come in to our school that teach about their

:04:51. > :04:54.religion. Do you accept the findings? In terms of the religious

:04:55. > :05:05.ethos of the school, we reject it. We believe it is an Islamic phobic

:05:06. > :05:11.report. Ofsted inspectors cilt sized the `` criticised the school library

:05:12. > :05:16.for having too few books about other religions. They say some of the

:05:17. > :05:20.books describe fundamentalist views. This is a staff library, not a

:05:21. > :05:26.children's library. Secondly, the books are not available to children.

:05:27. > :05:31.Thirdly, we are they are not being ought to children. Today's report

:05:32. > :05:34.come on the day Ofsted published its findings into allegations of

:05:35. > :05:38.extremism at a number of schools in Birmingham. The local MP says the

:05:39. > :05:42.timing is not helpful. I do have some concerns around Ofsted's moves

:05:43. > :05:46.today to release the report on the same day that a major report into

:05:47. > :05:52.the actions in Birmingham is going on. It is clear there isn't a link

:05:53. > :05:56.between the two situations and yet in many people's minds there will be

:05:57. > :06:00.considered to be so. Ofsted told leaders that its

:06:01. > :06:09.curriculum must better prepare students for living in modern day

:06:10. > :06:13.Britain. Staff should ensure library books have non`biassed views. The

:06:14. > :06:22.school's governors say they reject the report. They are seeking legal

:06:23. > :06:27.advice to decide their next move. That's it for now.

:06:28. > :06:33.Time for the weather. Hello. Well, it may not feel like it right now,

:06:34. > :06:37.but the outlook is looking dry with sunny spells, but right now, we have

:06:38. > :06:40.got a few showery outbreaks around. They are gradually working their way

:06:41. > :06:45.northwards. They will fade away through the night. We have a muggy

:06:46. > :06:49.night. Temperatures down to about 13 Celsius or 14 Celsius. Now, for

:06:50. > :06:58.tomorrow morning, to start off with, a few spots of murkiness around, but

:06:59. > :07:01.it brightens up quickly. The showers will probably pass for the

:07:02. > :07:07.north`west of us. It should be dry for most of us. Temperatures

:07:08. > :07:12.reaching about 22 Celsius. They are a touch down on today's highs, but a

:07:13. > :07:16.warm day. As high pressure starts to build on Wednesday and Thursday, we

:07:17. > :07:22.are seeing the temperatures rise so we have got highs of 23 Celsius on

:07:23. > :07:25.Wednesday and perhaps getting up to 25 Celsius on Thursday. So

:07:26. > :07:32.altogether, the outlook for London this week is looking sunny for all

:07:33. > :07:36.of us, but I'll pass you overto Jay. -- over to jay now.

:07:37. > :07:46.Good evening, it was the warmest day of the year. Warm for some, but

:07:47. > :07:51.thundery for others. This line of really intense thunderstorms moved

:07:52. > :07:55.through. Large hail and gusty winds and rain as well. That moved away

:07:56. > :07:58.and now we look towards the south and you can see the rain moving

:07:59. > :08:04.northwards. So let's look at the cloud which is heading our way and

:08:05. > :08:06.some of it does look really quite threatening particularly in the

:08:07. > :08:10.south-eastern corner there. That's going to bring heavy rain. With it

:08:11. > :08:14.the risk of thunder and lightening. The rain will move away from the

:08:15. > :08:18.South East, and out into the North Sea, but it may linger further

:08:19. > :08:21.north. Just moving away from the south-west and into Wales and into

:08:22. > :08:25.Northern Ireland by dawn. Another mild night. 12 Celsius in the north

:08:26. > :08:28.and maybe 13 Celsius or 14 Celsius in the south. To start the day

:08:29. > :08:33.across Northern England, it's looking good. It is dry and bright,

:08:34. > :08:35.but there will be wetter weather around
