:03:32. > :03:36.To prevent this happening again a few miles away in Dulwich Park, a
:03:37. > :03:39.With more extreme weather events predicted, it's an issue
:03:40. > :03:47.Surface water flooding schemes have been overlooked for many years.
:03:48. > :03:50.But in recent years, there's been a lot more incidence of surface
:03:51. > :03:55.water flooding and people are starting to realise that we actually
:03:56. > :04:02.So you can see where the water is gathering now in what is
:04:03. > :04:08.The problem is that our Victorian drains can't cope with very intense
:04:09. > :04:12.But add to that another man-made issue, and you have a recipe
:04:13. > :04:20.As London has become more densely populated, and more urbanised,
:04:21. > :04:24.we've lost lots of porous surfaces all over London.
:04:25. > :04:27.And there's less opportunity for the water to escape
:04:28. > :04:31.so what the water is doing now is it works its way through those porous
:04:32. > :04:36.They actually become saturated and the water just runs
:04:37. > :04:41.Using underground storage tanks and other unobtrusive defences
:04:42. > :04:45.thanks to this project Herne Hill soon able to cope with a one
:04:46. > :04:51.City Hall has now proposed to the environment agency a number of
:04:52. > :04:56.With many experts predicting if the biggest flooding threat that
:04:57. > :05:01.Further into the long-term plan we're looking
:05:02. > :05:07.into how we could reinforce those programs and have more saleable
:05:08. > :05:10.urban drainage schemes brought through across the capital to manage
:05:11. > :05:17.This project in Dulwich Park is due to finish next year.
:05:18. > :05:21.These types of scenes in this area should be a thing of the past.
:05:22. > :05:24.The hope is money can be fine so other places will be just
:05:25. > :05:36.It will be a mostly dry and bright day with some sunny spells.
:05:37. > :05:39.It will feel warm with a maximum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
:05:40. > :05:42.Warm sunny spells are expected to continue for the rest of the week,
:05:43. > :05:45.but it will be rather cloudy at times and there's a chance
