:00:00. > 3:59:59destination. That is all from us. Now, thme for

:00:00. > :00:28.the news where you are. governing body from a primary school

:00:29. > :00:32.in Tower Hamlets. The counchl wants to replace the 15 governors at the

:00:33. > :00:35.school in Whitechapel after what it calls a catastrophic drop in

:00:36. > :00:44.standards and the complete breakdown in relations with some of the

:00:45. > :00:47.governors. Three years ago, this school was rated good with

:00:48. > :00:50.outstanding features. Now it appears to have suffered an alarming

:00:51. > :00:55.decline. Moves are under wax to remove the management. The vast

:00:56. > :01:13.majority of pupils are Bangladeshi and most speak English as a second

:01:14. > :01:16.language. Tower Hamlets objdcted to the appointment of a new

:01:17. > :01:20.headteacher. The following summer, the exams were 40%, the lowdst ever

:01:21. > :01:26.recorded in the borough. Thd previous year, they had been 82 . In

:01:27. > :01:31.September 2013, the school was labelled a cause for concern. In

:01:32. > :01:36.December, the council applidd to the Secretary of State for the governors

:01:37. > :01:39.to be removed. This month, Ofsted launched an emergency inspection.

:01:40. > :01:47.Today, parents reflected concerns about the school's decline.

:01:48. > :01:55.people thinking that they change the school. The results were low? Yeah,

:01:56. > :02:03.Are you worried? Basically, my son is going to another You're loving

:02:04. > :02:06.school. Him? Yeah. I went to a few meetings, some group trying to take

:02:07. > :02:15.over the school. My parents were not involved. That refers to a failed

:02:16. > :02:19.attempt by governors to makd the school an academy, out of council

:02:20. > :02:22.control, an illustration of how far relations have soured. The council

:02:23. > :02:29.said it's been a complete break down. In 2006, when the school was

:02:30. > :02:33.performing above expectations, David Cameron chose this school to deliver

:02:34. > :02:40.his plans for integrating mhnority communities.

:02:41. > :02:47.We can get more on this now from our reporter Nick. Are we dealing with

:02:48. > :02:51.another Trojan horse style problem similar to in Birmingham? That's a

:02:52. > :02:55.legitimate question to explore, not least because the inspectors in the

:02:56. > :02:59.Midlands found that hardlind Muslims had targeted five schools and also,

:03:00. > :03:03.in light of that experience, they were widening their investigation.

:03:04. > :03:08.They have been looking at places in East London. Today, though, they

:03:09. > :03:12.said that although this month's inspection was an emergency one it

:03:13. > :03:16.wasn't due to any fears of ` takeover plot. Also the Dep`rtment

:03:17. > :03:21.of Education said that they'd found no evidence of any extremist

:03:22. > :03:25.activity. Tower Hamlets council is concerned about what it calls a

:03:26. > :03:29.catastrophic collapse in results at the school. That's why it's calling

:03:30. > :03:33.on the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, to formally remove thd

:03:34. > :03:37.governors. We spoke to one governor today and also the head teacher at

:03:38. > :03:41.the school. They both said they wouldn't be commenting until Ofsted

:03:42. > :03:44.has published its findings of the emergency inspection earlier this

:03:45. > :03:52.month. Thank you you. `` thank you.

:03:53. > :03:57.Next week, the herbal stimulant khat will be banned in Britain and

:03:58. > :04:03.treated as a class C drug. For hundreds of years it's been chewed

:04:04. > :04:06.from people `` by people from Yemen and Somalia. Police starting

:04:07. > :04:17.explaining the new policy to people today.

:04:18. > :04:22.Friday prayers have just ended, this campaigner is stirring up stpport

:04:23. > :04:26.for the criminalisation of khat The police are spreading the word.

:04:27. > :04:32.Listen carefully not everyone supports the ban. Chewing the leaves

:04:33. > :04:36.of the herb for a euphoric high has been a social pastime in thd coffee

:04:37. > :04:41.shops of Somali communities for generations. There is littld dispute

:04:42. > :04:44.that khat use has caused huge problems for this community. And the

:04:45. > :04:48.ban seems largely welcomed. There is an underlying anger that thd ban

:04:49. > :04:53.will create more job problels, more money worries for this commtnity.

:04:54. > :04:56.This is going to close and the Government they don't have `n

:04:57. > :05:02.alternative to help her, to do the business. How many people use your

:05:03. > :05:08.coffee shop every day and h`ve khat? 200 to 300. A day? Yes, customers.

:05:09. > :05:13.As this community grows in London, so has khat use. Depression,

:05:14. > :05:19.domestic violence and joblessness is plaguing this community and plane

:05:20. > :05:24.blame the mood`alitiering shde effects of khat. This man w`s a

:05:25. > :05:28.user. For us, for the community it might be cloudy in London, but the

:05:29. > :05:34.sun is shining for all thosd families at the end of domestic

:05:35. > :05:36.violence, it's the end of abuse it's the end of children who

:05:37. > :05:41.couldn't spend time with thdir families. Up to 56 tons of the herb

:05:42. > :05:47.is imported from the Kenyan mountains to Britain's stredts every

:05:48. > :05:52.year. Dealers and coffee shops sell it up for up ?4 a bundle. Now a long

:05:53. > :05:55.and profitable chain is out of business. We're taking a softly

:05:56. > :05:58.softly approach with our colmunities much it's all about education,

:05:59. > :06:01.telling them it's coming. Wd're taking a tiered approach to people

:06:02. > :06:08.who are getting caught with it. The Met are wary of potential community

:06:09. > :06:12.tensions. Arrests won't be ` last resource on our borders. To stop

:06:13. > :06:17.khat use going underground smugglers won't get off so lightly. As one

:06:18. > :06:22.user told me today ` khat is our alcohol.

:06:23. > :06:26.That's it from me for tonight. Let's get the weather forecast for the

:06:27. > :06:29.weekend and this evening from Chris. Fingers crossed.

:06:30. > :06:32.Yes, it's looking good. Prolising you a lot of sunshine and it will

:06:33. > :06:36.feel warm as well. Before wd get there, there'll be patches of cloud

:06:37. > :06:39.moving southwards overnight. Not too much mind you. It stays mild tonight

:06:40. > :06:43.with temperatures no lower than around 14 degrees in the centre of

:06:44. > :06:48.town. Now the start of the weekend looking like a stunning day. On

:06:49. > :06:52.Saturday, plenty of sunshind. It will be warmer than it was today. 23

:06:53. > :06:56.degrees today. I think as wd go through Saturday, we will sde plenty

:06:57. > :07:01.of sunshine, not very much cloud at all. In the best of the sunshine,

:07:02. > :07:04.we're looking at highs up to fairly widely the mid`20, 25 degreds

:07:05. > :07:08.Celsius on the cards in the centre of town. Yeah I think I can smell

:07:09. > :07:12.the barbeques being set alrdady Looking at the forecast for Sunday,

:07:13. > :07:15.there'll be a subtle chain. High pressure is with us, but thd main

:07:16. > :07:18.difference is we start to h`ve easterly winds up the Thames Estuary

:07:19. > :07:22.that. Means it won't be quite as warm in the centre of town. Not bad

:07:23. > :07:26.mind you, 24 degrees on the cards am probably the best of the sunshine

:07:27. > :07:27.out towards the West. Here's my colleague Darren bet with a look at

:07:28. > :07:38.the national picture. Hello there. Tomorrow is the longest

:07:39. > :07:42.day, the summer solstice, it's not often that we bring you good news,

:07:43. > :07:46.but it does look promising for this weekend. There may be a little rain

:07:47. > :07:49.in the far north of Scotland, otherwise it should be dry and

:07:50. > :07:53.there'll be good spells of sunshine. With light winds, it should feel

:07:54. > :07:57.quite warm as well. The reason for the quiet weather, this blocking

:07:58. > :08:02.area of high pressure out to the west. We do have weak weather fronts

:08:03. > :08:07.towards the Northern Isles. Nor cloud for the -- more cloud in the

:08:08. > :08:11.northern half of Scotland. The night is dry, clear spells an lite winds

:08:12. > :08:15.as well. Temperatures, well typically in towns and cities 1 or

:08:16. > :08:18.13 degrees. It will be Cilicy in
