:00:00. > :00:18.Now on BBC One, it?s time for the news where you are.

:00:19. > :00:28.Good evening. I'm Asad Ahmad. A week after the governor of the Bank of

:00:29. > :00:33.England signalled that interest rates may rise soon, a third of

:00:34. > :00:47.Londoners say they are worried that they will not be able to pay their

:00:48. > :01:01.rent and mortgages. The figure comes from the chartered Institute of

:01:02. > :01:06.Housing, which warns that some residents face being priced out of

:01:07. > :01:14.several areas in London. Robin Haase finally bought his first

:01:15. > :01:20.family home. But even with financial help from his family, staying in

:01:21. > :01:24.Barnet, where he and his govern both work and grew up was beyond reach.

:01:25. > :01:29.We were lucky to find something at the price we have, where we are in

:01:30. > :01:31.Potters bar. But obviously, we would ideally -- we are way off living

:01:32. > :01:34.where we would ideally like to live. There is nothing in that price

:01:35. > :01:36.racket that we could afford. A survey by the chartered Institute of

:01:37. > :01:38.Housing suggests that he is not alone. 34% of Londoners questioned

:01:39. > :01:40.agreed that they might have to leave their local area because of the cost

:01:41. > :01:42.of housing. 30% are concerned about being able to pay their rent or

:01:43. > :01:46.mortgage now, and a third are concerned that they will not be able

:01:47. > :01:47.to meet their monthly payments in a year's time. If you are a homeowner,

:01:48. > :01:50.once you have bought your house and you are comfortable usable then,

:01:51. > :01:53.housing costs do not move that much, although interest rate rises

:01:54. > :01:56.may be coming. But for renters, your friend can go up every year. He said

:01:57. > :01:58.the findings are similar to those from the last up of years, and

:01:59. > :02:00.points to the need to build more houses. Earlier this month, the

:02:01. > :02:02.mayor renewed his commitment to do just that, announcing plans to build

:02:03. > :02:05.50,000 new homes on brownfield sites in the capital. But this latest

:02:06. > :02:07.research suggests that the issue of housing continues to be a major

:02:08. > :02:09.source of stress for Londoners, who often feel worse off than their

:02:10. > :02:14.parents, and fear that the next generation will be right out of the

:02:15. > :02:17.capital altogether. Parents and school children in

:02:18. > :02:21.south-west London say that they are angry at plans remove a footbridge

:02:22. > :02:24.over a busy road in Twickenham. They argued that their journeys will

:02:25. > :02:31.become ordained risk, but Transport for London says crossing the road

:02:32. > :02:35.will actually become easier. Safety always comes first on the

:02:36. > :02:39.journey home from school. Ali and her family regularly take this

:02:40. > :02:45.footbridge, as it means they can avoid the busy road below. This page

:02:46. > :02:47.offers the community, primarily children, safe passage across an

:02:48. > :02:48.extremely busy dual carriageway. children, safe passage across an

:02:49. > :02:53.extremely busy dual carriageway It is a major London artery. The

:02:54. > :02:57.crossing takes children from one side of the great Chertsey road to

:02:58. > :03:01.the other, but parents say they are concerned after discovering plans to

:03:02. > :03:03.remove it and replace it with a ground level panic and crossing A

:03:04. > :03:06.ground level panic and crossing. A lot of parents are concerned about

:03:07. > :03:10.the safety of their children, particularly those who are tried to

:03:11. > :03:13.get a level of street savviness. get a level of street savviness

:03:14. > :03:16.Transport for London said it would make it easier to cross the road and

:03:17. > :03:20.allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross together. I don't access

:03:21. > :03:24.that. I think the reason they are taking the bridge down is to save

:03:25. > :03:29.money. I don't think I would be allowed to walk home alone if not

:03:30. > :03:33.for the bridge. According to recent traffic data, almost 55,000 vehicles

:03:34. > :03:35.flow through this part of the road every day. Campaigners say they

:03:36. > :03:41.can't understand why anyone would want to remove the bridge, which

:03:42. > :03:45.provide safe passage. If you look at what has been proposed, it is a

:03:46. > :03:48.simple solution. It is a road crossing. That is all that has been

:03:49. > :03:52.put forward. We have seen of the argument about cost or any

:03:53. > :03:56.alternatives. A consultation is in progress, parents here claim that

:03:57. > :04:01.very few local residents were informed about it on something TfL

:04:02. > :04:07.disputes. In a statement, they say they have written to local

:04:08. > :04:10.residents, schools and stakeholders in the area about these plans and

:04:11. > :04:13.will answer any questions or concerns they may have. For the time

:04:14. > :04:19.being, though, people will continue to campaign against the proposals.

:04:20. > :04:22.Finally, some lucky Londoners got a small windfall this morning,

:04:23. > :04:27.courtesy of a treasure hunt on social media. An American

:04:28. > :04:34.millionaire who used Twitter to help followers find cash in the US

:04:35. > :04:36.decided to try the idea in London and this morning, several people

:04:37. > :04:39.solve clues to find envelopes of cash hidden in trees and bushes

:04:40. > :04:43.around Kensington Gardens. They found ?50 each.

:04:44. > :04:48.I hope you had no complaint about today's weather, because there is

:04:49. > :04:53.more of it to come tomorrow. Some cloud during the day, but lots of

:04:54. > :04:58.sunny spells as the temperature reaches a high of 25 Celsius.

:04:59. > :05:03.There is more news on our website at the usual address. That is it for

:05:04. > :05:17.For the majority of the British Isles, today has wrought long spells

:05:18. > :05:24.of warm sunshine and it is the longest day. There is plenty more to

:05:25. > :05:25.come this evening, and yet more on the cards for tomorrow.
