:00:00. > :00:13.Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.
:00:14. > :00:21.Hello. A very good evening. There are concerns over possible religious
:00:22. > :00:27.extremism at a school in Tower Hamlets. BBC London has learned the
:00:28. > :00:29.council has information concerning the possible Islamification of Kobi
:00:30. > :00:33.Nazrul Primary School. The Department for Education has told us
:00:34. > :00:37.it will investigate any alldgations. It follows the so`called Trojan
:00:38. > :00:42.Horse plot in Birmingham, in which a number of schools were the target of
:00:43. > :00:48.an alleged takeover plot by extremists.
:00:49. > :00:51.David Cameron once choose this school as the backdrop for the plans
:00:52. > :00:55.for integrating minority communities. Now it is surrounded by
:00:56. > :01:00.suspicion. Tower Hamlets Cotncil is trying to remove the entire
:01:01. > :01:04.governing body over an alarling slip in standards. Now BBC London
:01:05. > :01:07.understands information has been received.
:01:08. > :01:12.After the events in Birmingham, we asked every single London council to
:01:13. > :01:17.tell us of any tip`offs abott any of their schools. We asked for any
:01:18. > :01:22.details of any alleged attelpt by Islamic extremists to infiltrate any
:01:23. > :01:27.school or try to influence the Islamification of lessons. Tower
:01:28. > :01:32.Hamlets confirmed it was no position of a document, but so far h`s not
:01:33. > :01:35.shown it to us or identified the school. We understand the
:01:36. > :01:39.information relates to Kobi Nazrul Primary School. Four of the 15
:01:40. > :01:42.governors at the school havd now resigned. This man is one of them.
:01:43. > :01:48.He said he was not invited to meetings and was alarmed at the
:01:49. > :01:53.amount of long`remaining stoof leaving. Some were at the school for
:01:54. > :01:57.over a decade. I don't know what happened hnside,
:01:58. > :02:01.in terms of the management from the top layer. There's no other
:02:02. > :02:11.conclusion. There must have been a reason they resigned. Results from
:02:12. > :02:18.gone from 82% of pupils gains good Sats to 42%. The question the
:02:19. > :02:22.governors were asked, they were asked while why our school was
:02:23. > :02:27.failing. We have not had a valid answer, basically. They tridd to,
:02:28. > :02:31.behind our backs, actually, tried to put this school into an academy
:02:32. > :02:36.There was no consultation whth the parents. None of the parents we
:02:37. > :02:47.spoke to have seen any avert extremism. We now know one of the
:02:48. > :02:52.governors is a member of an Islamist group. It has infiltrated and
:02:53. > :02:56.recruited at university and remains under constant review by thd Home
:02:57. > :03:00.Office. The local MP says the Government should have acted sooner.
:03:01. > :03:05.The Government and the Secrdtary of State has sat on his hands. In the
:03:06. > :03:10.mean time, children are suffering, parents are suffering. Parent
:03:11. > :03:14.governors have raised alarm bells that they have been in a minority.
:03:15. > :03:18.This school needs action quhckly. The Department for Education told us
:03:19. > :03:26.if they find evidence of extremism they will not hesitate to act. They
:03:27. > :03:29.are awaiting the results of an emergency Ofsted inspection. That
:03:30. > :03:31.may shed light on what is h`ppening inside.
:03:32. > :03:38.Just to clarify, these are concerns about governors, not necess`rily at
:03:39. > :03:44.what is taught at the school? That is right. So far nothing in our
:03:45. > :03:49.investigation has suggested any obvious or overt attempts at
:03:50. > :03:52.Islamification at this school. Tower Hamlets Council had concerns about
:03:53. > :03:56.the school for some time. Wd know that back in 2012, when a ndw head
:03:57. > :04:01.was hired t council stronglx objected to that. Then we s`w a
:04:02. > :04:06.dramatic drop in results at the school. The council tried to
:04:07. > :04:10.intervene. It brought in Ofsted It is when we get the findings we will
:04:11. > :04:16.find out what, if anything has happened at this school.
:04:17. > :04:21.An inquest into the death of a mother whose shooting sparkdd the
:04:22. > :04:27.1985 Brixton riots began today. Cherry Groce was shot during a
:04:28. > :04:32.police raid and died of her injuries in 2011.
:04:33. > :04:35.He was only 11 years old whdn he saw his mother lying on the floor
:04:36. > :04:40.bleeding at their home in Brixton. She had been shot by an armdd police
:04:41. > :04:45.officer. Today, he told an hnquest jury he was screaming and shouting
:04:46. > :04:51.repeatedly, "What have you done to my mum? " He heard her saying, I
:04:52. > :04:58.cannot feel my legs. I can not breathe. I am going to die." He said
:04:59. > :05:03.he became hysterical ux but the officer `` but the officer told me
:05:04. > :05:09.to shut up. She died from her injuries hn 2 11.
:05:10. > :05:14.26 years after the shooting. It provoked a riot in Brixton `nd
:05:15. > :05:18.raised questions at the timd about policing the black communitx and the
:05:19. > :05:24.use of lethal force. Police had been looking for her son, described as
:05:25. > :05:31.extremely dangerous. He was suspected of carrying out an armed
:05:32. > :05:35.robbery. At an address in London he pointed a shotgun at a Hertfordshire
:05:36. > :05:39.police officer and then dis`ppeared. The next day, armed officers from
:05:40. > :05:43.the Met carried out searches and raids. It wasn't until earlx the
:05:44. > :05:50.next morning they targeted his family home and shot his mother
:05:51. > :05:53.The jury heard there were sdrious deficiencies in how the raid was
:05:54. > :05:56.carried out. There was a lack of information about the lay`ott of the
:05:57. > :06:01.property and details of who was inside. An independent revidw by
:06:02. > :06:04.West Yorkshire Police found grave risks were created for both the
:06:05. > :06:09.public and the police. Risks that should have been avoided.
:06:10. > :06:13.It has taken the family of Cherry Groce the past three years since her
:06:14. > :06:18.death to secure legal aid so, they can be represented at an inpuest.
:06:19. > :06:24.Tomorrow, the jury is due to hear from the officer who shot hdr.
:06:25. > :06:31.Time for me to wish you a vdry good night and hand you over to Wendy for
:06:32. > :06:33.a look at the weather, which is warming up, I gather!
:06:34. > :06:33.night and hand you over to Wendy for a look at the weather, which
:06:34. > :06:41.It is. Today was disappointhng if you got caught in the hefty showers.
:06:42. > :06:47.Tomorrow, dry, warm and sunny. If you have seen any of those showers
:06:48. > :06:51.this evening, they are fizzling out. Through the night there'll be a lot
:06:52. > :06:56.of clear skies. If you are tp early tomorrow you may see a mist patch
:06:57. > :07:03.here or there. 13 Celsius in London. They may fall into single fhgures in
:07:04. > :07:06.the odd rural spot across the Home Counties. There'll be loads of
:07:07. > :07:09.sunshine and the temperaturd will pick up nicely through the lorning.
:07:10. > :07:15.In the afternoon, a smatterhng of cloud. It should be largely dry A
:07:16. > :07:20.small chance of tennis being disrupted tomorrow due to a shower.
:07:21. > :07:25.Temperatures will be up to 22 Celsius in London. On the ottlook,
:07:26. > :07:30.we have Wednesday and Thursday both warm, sunny days. 26 we could hit on
:07:31. > :07:33.Thursday. We will cling on to that fine weather for Friday, before it
:07:34. > :07:46.turns unsettled to tr weekend. There were a few aspects to the
:07:47. > :07:48.forecast today which did not go to plan.
:07:49. > :07:54.There were more showers than expected. The ones which did develop
:07:55. > :07:58.were heavy. They moved through Wimbledon and west London. They have
:07:59. > :08:02.fizzled out now. We have some showers over parts of Scotland.
:08:03. > :08:06.Most places will miss showers tomorrow and stay dry. We have
:08:07. > :08:11.plenty of sunshine around, with temperatures in the low 20s.
