:00:34. > :00:34.The Government is to end a local welfare grant worth ?27 million.

:01:01. > :01:04.down. I bought a brand new electric cooker. Councils in London received
:01:05. > :01:08.?27 million from the Government to direct to people most in need. From
:01:09. > :01:12.next year, this particular funding is due to end. The Government says
:01:13. > :01:17.when the funding stops, councils can use money from their existing
:01:18. > :01:20.budgets to help people like John. At a time when local government budgets
:01:21. > :01:25.are being squeezed, charities and councillors are concerned as to
:01:26. > :01:30.where that money might come from. People have to fund libraries, to
:01:31. > :01:33.centre centres. It's not clear how individual councils will cope with
:01:34. > :01:37.this loss. The Government defends the change by saying it's for local
:01:38. > :01:42.councils to decide how they spend their budgets. And provide support
:01:43. > :01:45.to those in the community who face financial difficulties. The
:01:46. > :01:50.Cripplegate Foundation is charity which helped poor Londoners for
:01:51. > :01:55.nearly 500 years. They have never spoken out against the Government.
:01:56. > :02:00.Until now. We are so alarmed on the effect it will have on our most
:02:01. > :02:05.vulnerable residents in Islington we brought together other organisations
:02:06. > :02:08.and set up Keep The Safety Net. We believe this is what it is.
:02:09. > :02:11.Cripplegate Foundation is urging the Government to speak to them, to
:02:12. > :02:16.London councils and voluntary groups about the cuts to funding, to find a
:02:17. > :02:21.way in which they can continue to provide Londoners with a basic

:04:03. > :04:05.it would make it really accessible. Mayor Boris Johnson has also
:04:06. > :04:07.backed the idea of F1 cars racing through London's streets.
:04:08. > :04:10.He says the capital would do a spectacular job hosting a
:04:11. > :04:13.Grand Prix, but he also said there needed to be a lot of planning
:04:14. > :04:16.and also there were questions about noise and air pollution.
:04:17. > :04:18.Not to mention, the disruption a Grand Prix could bring.
:04:19. > :04:21.A Grand Prix effectively would be a full day of disruption.
:04:22. > :04:23.So, you know, you can't hold the traffic for that long.
