:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from us. Now it's time for the news where

:00:00. > :00:23.Good evening and welcome. People living next to a mountain of waste

:00:24. > :00:29.in Bromley say not enough has been done to reduce the huge mound which

:00:30. > :00:30.they say smells like rotten coralses.

:00:31. > :00:35.done to reduce the huge mound which they say smells like rotten Today

:00:36. > :00:37.the Environment Agency `` corpses. Today the Environment Agency started

:00:38. > :00:47.work. Today a fire broke out. This mountain of waste has been

:00:48. > :00:51.towering over residents' homes here in Orpington for three years. After

:00:52. > :00:55.a lengthy legal battle the Environment Agency is taking action.

:00:56. > :01:00.Today, they have started to remove some of it. We've not been able to

:01:01. > :01:07.open our doors and windows because of the smell. The smells have been

:01:08. > :01:15.unbelievable! The house smells, you get it on your clothes, in your

:01:16. > :01:21.hair. It's been like rotting corpses invading your house. It is not just

:01:22. > :01:25.the sight and smell, the residents say there is the risk of fire. There

:01:26. > :01:31.has been one here today. One of 17 in the last year. It has cost the

:01:32. > :01:35.London Fire Brigade in the region of ?650,000. We are here on a regular

:01:36. > :01:40.basis. As you can see from the size of it poses risk to our fire crews

:01:41. > :01:45.working in the local area. There is a risk of it collapsing. It is

:01:46. > :01:47.estimated this vast amount of waste amounts to 20,000 tonnes. The

:01:48. > :01:53.Environment Agency wants to remove some of it in the coming weeks. That

:01:54. > :01:56.they say will make it a safe level. Some want to see the whole thing

:01:57. > :02:00.gone. This is supposed to be greenbelt land. We want it returned

:02:01. > :02:04.to a use which does not have a pile of waste that towers over people's

:02:05. > :02:12.houses, even over the flyover on the A 20. The site here is run by

:02:13. > :02:16.Waste4Fuel. The aim was originally to burn the rubbish, turning it into

:02:17. > :02:21.renewable energy. That never happened and the pile got higher and

:02:22. > :02:24.higher. Today, we took an environmental risk assessor along to

:02:25. > :02:28.see what he thought. It looks like a very dangerous pile that could

:02:29. > :02:34.collapse. It looks very unstable to me. So, I would worry about an

:02:35. > :02:38.avalanche of debris and waste hitting my house and my garden.

:02:39. > :02:42.Residents here say although they are pleased some waste is finally being

:02:43. > :02:47.removed, they want the whole thing gone and soon.

:02:48. > :02:54.A 29`year`old man from Bethnal Green has been found guilty of terror

:02:55. > :02:59.charges after he was found with bomb`making plans on his laptop.

:03:00. > :03:04.Afsor Ali was arrested while trying to board a Eurostar train using

:03:05. > :03:08.someone else's passport. Police have recovered three guns from a back

:03:09. > :03:15.garden in South London. They were concealed under a paving slab,

:03:16. > :03:17.surrounded by garden gnomes. Two men have been arrested following the

:03:18. > :03:22.raid. A man has been jailed for 13 years

:03:23. > :03:26.following his attempt to raid a company which stores cash, using a

:03:27. > :03:32.stolen digger. The plan failed because he knocked down the wrong

:03:33. > :03:35.wall. Raymond Betson was previously in prison for trying to steal a

:03:36. > :03:39.diamond from the Millennium Dome in 2000. How is the turmoil in the

:03:40. > :03:43.Middle East being reflected on the streets of London? Gaza may be 2,000

:03:44. > :03:48.miles away, but what is happening there as well as in Iraq and Syria

:03:49. > :03:54.is finding expression here amongst the communities of the capital.

:03:55. > :04:01.It maybe a sign of the sensitivity of the times that a flag can get

:04:02. > :04:06.this much press. Locals have found themselves quizzed on their

:04:07. > :04:10.attitudes to the Middle East and Gaza. Until last night, there was a

:04:11. > :04:15.black flag here too. Some said it was like those waved by jihadist

:04:16. > :04:19.fighters. One of the locals, who would talk, said the area could do

:04:20. > :04:23.without the attention. I don't like this in my area. I don't understand

:04:24. > :04:31.something which will divide the community. I don't like something

:04:32. > :04:37.like this at all. Also, myself I don't know what is behind it. Also,

:04:38. > :04:43.I don't know what is the meaning of it. I just notice a flag. Some of

:04:44. > :04:53.the protests, then miss placed, as far as some are concerned ` others

:04:54. > :04:57.just mis`spelt. This video was posted on YouTube last week. Many

:04:58. > :05:02.pro`Palestinian demonstrators waving flags in the middle of the Blackwall

:05:03. > :05:06.Tunnel. Last night, another demonstration, this time from people

:05:07. > :05:24.angry at the Tricycle theatre. The tension was clear and there have

:05:25. > :05:30.been reports of an increase in anti`accept natic attacks. ``

:05:31. > :05:33.anti`accept mattic attacks in recent weeks.

:05:34. > :05:42.Bridges which have been built and the strain, people become emotional.

:05:43. > :05:49.People become concerned and therefore it spills over into not

:05:50. > :05:55.wanting to co`operate perhaps. I am just preparing for the Sabbath which

:05:56. > :06:00.begins at dusk tonight. It is a time of reflection. This rabbi has much

:06:01. > :06:06.to reflect on. His congregation, he says, have been worried by recent

:06:07. > :06:09.events. He says London is coping better than other parts of Europe,

:06:10. > :06:14.where there has been much more violence. London has developed a

:06:15. > :06:18.broad understanding that we need to get on together whatever the world

:06:19. > :06:21.picture. People are concerned with their neighbour. And their fellow

:06:22. > :06:28.communities. That is something we have to work at. And London has a

:06:29. > :06:30.great history at doing just that. Well, it is good night from me. I

:06:31. > :06:40.will leave you now with the weather. It looks like Saturday is the calm

:06:41. > :06:46.before the storm. Quite a pleasant day in prospect, with some decent

:06:47. > :06:52.sunny spells. Lovely! Temperatures will respond favourably. Peeking at

:06:53. > :06:57.24 Celsius. That is 75 Fahrenheit in central London. Fresher on the

:06:58. > :07:04.outskirts. I am sure you are all aware there is a storm on its way. A

:07:05. > :07:07.yellow warning has been issued. Be prepared for the potential for

:07:08. > :07:11.disruption as this low pressure will move across the country, bringing

:07:12. > :07:16.wet and windy weather with it. It is a different start for London perhaps

:07:17. > :07:20.on Sunday. Pretty wet as that rain shifts further east. Hopefully

:07:21. > :07:25.improving into the afternoon. If that happens, we should get highs of

:07:26. > :07:36.21`22 Celsius. That is how it is looking. Have a pleasant weekend.

:07:37. > :07:43.Good evening. We saw some torrential thunderstorms earlier today.

:07:44. > :07:46.Tomorrow looks like a better day for most places. It will go downhill

:07:47. > :07:49.into Sunday. This is heading our way. This is a couple of day's worth
