:00:49. > :00:53.Hackney. Telling people she is taking to the classroom is not
:00:54. > :01:02.always easy. Teaching in London you get a few sharp looks. Especially
:01:03. > :01:06.maths. People tend to share horrific stories from their own educ`tion
:01:07. > :01:11.that seem really scarring. She is excited by the challenge th`t others
:01:12. > :01:17.are not. Latest information shows potentially large gaps in some
:01:18. > :01:20.subjects. 126 courses are on offer in London and nearly half h`ve
:01:21. > :01:26.unfilled spaces. In London `nd nearly half have unfilled spaces.
:01:27. > :01:30.Inside, chemistry and physics. Out of the 49 specialist language
:01:31. > :01:43.courses on offer, 24 are currently not fall. All of this matters
:01:44. > :01:45.because we know London needs to find 130,000 extra school places by 018.
:01:46. > :01:50.With one teacher per 30 puphls that works out at 4400 extra teachers who
:01:51. > :01:54.need to be found. The popul`tion in London will grow dramatically over
:01:55. > :01:58.the next years. We have to lake sure we are training in of teachdrs. As
:01:59. > :02:02.soon as we get into a spiral where we are not training enough teachers,
:02:03. > :02:07.there is a risk that standards go down. What we have at present, if
:02:08. > :02:12.you think about traffic lights which are not at red but they are clearly
:02:13. > :02:18.flashing amber. The Governmdnt trains graduates and career changes
:02:19. > :02:24.through its direct scheme. This map shows how money places have been

:03:19. > :03:22.the teaching profession. We are offering bursaries for some of the
:03:23. > :03:25.key subjects which we want to focus on, such as science and maths.

:03:33. > :03:36.London, the lack of teachers is fast becoming a classroom crisis.

:03:40. > :03:42.Nearly half of inmates said they felt a risk during their tile

:04:06. > :04:12.recommendations concerning suicide and self harm. Since the last
:04:13. > :04:21.inspection in 2011, six prisoners here have taken their own lhves and
:04:22. > :04:28.the chief inspector 's report says work to reduce violence has been
:04:29. > :04:37.poorly resourced and too lilited. Migel in west London holds 0300
:04:38. > :04:41.adult prisoners, many on reland Its last inspection found it was
:04:42. > :04:47.improving. The prison watchdog has said today's report was verx
:04:48. > :04:50.disappointing. When we inspdcted, we discovered that not only had this
:04:51. > :04:54.number of prisoners taken their own lives, the responses and
:04:55. > :04:58.recommendations that intervhewed had not been actioned. We found some
:04:59. > :05:02.prisoners who were at risk of self harm in some pretty terribld
:05:03. > :05:07.conditions. One serving prison officer says there is daily violence
:05:08. > :05:16.and the jail is understaffed. We have disguised his identity. There
:05:17. > :05:18.are more attacks on staff than there have ever been. There are more
:05:19. > :05:22.fights between prisoners as well. Any level of violence is
:05:23. > :05:28.unacceptable. That view is dchoed by a former burglar and ex`inm`te of
:05:29. > :05:31.Wormwood Scrubs. He says it cannot cope with the most vulnerable.
:05:32. > :05:36.People say these prisons ard like holiday camps. When did the last
:05:37. > :05:44.person commits suicide in a holiday camp? What are we doing to these
:05:45. > :05:47.people? What are they doing? They are getting more and more rdsentful.
:05:48. > :05:54.Rather than trying to work with them. Angela routinely visited
:05:55. > :05:59.Wormwood Scrubs as chair of the Independent monitoring board. She
:06:00. > :06:04.resigned last year. From 2001 it got worse. In 2013, I said the prison
:06:05. > :06:10.was on a knife edge. They ddnied it and said what we were seeing and
:06:11. > :06:13.hearing was absolutely not true The Prison Service says Wormwood Scrubs
:06:14. > :06:18.has been to a difficult change process. As the chief inspector
:06:19. > :06:23.acknowledges, the governor has taken decisive action to address the
:06:24. > :06:26.situation. Safety has been prioritised, supportive honourable
:06:27. > :06:30.prisoners has been signific`ntly improved. The report raises serious
:06:31. > :06:34.concerns about whether this prisoners doing its job, helping
:06:35. > :06:38.rehabilitate criminals so that they are one day save to be rele`sed
:06:39. > :06:42.So, I'll say goodbye and hand you over
