:00:14. > :00:25.Good evening from BBC London News. I'm Riz Lateef.
:00:26. > :00:33.As we have been hearing Borhs Johnson has been selected. Ht marks
:00:34. > :00:38.a significant step in the m`yor s ambitions to return to Westlinster.
:00:39. > :00:42.He said he was thrilled and this was act one, scene one of a long
:00:43. > :00:47.process. Our political corrdspondent is there with the latest
:00:48. > :00:51.developments. He told us for years he would not
:00:52. > :01:00.want to return to Parliament while he was major. He could not do ``
:01:01. > :01:04.mayor. He could not do could not do two jobs at once. He will fhght the
:01:05. > :01:08.election here as a Conservative candidate. And the political classes
:01:09. > :01:14.tonight are saying, well is this the next step on a road possiblx to
:01:15. > :01:19.Number Ten? Questions that were put to Boris Johnson as he emerged about
:01:20. > :01:28.ten minutes ago. No, this is the first stage in a campaign to retain
:01:29. > :01:32.the seat of Uxbridge and Sotth Ruislip for the Conservativds and
:01:33. > :01:35.get across the message about what the Conservatives have achidved
:01:36. > :01:39.across London and the country as a whole, in turning the econoly
:01:40. > :01:44.around, as we have, over thd past few years and urging people not to
:01:45. > :01:49.throw it away by allowing Ed Miliband or the Labour Partx to get
:01:50. > :01:59.in. That is the message. Anxbody got any more questions? Could you do two
:02:00. > :02:04.jobs at the same time It has been done before. The question I am being
:02:05. > :02:09.asked is can you do mayor and MP at the same time ` I would point out
:02:10. > :02:16.you can do both, it has been done before and I would also point out it
:02:17. > :02:21.is possible to have, to be both an MP and to have a very big job, such
:02:22. > :02:27.as Foreign Secretary or Prile Minister at the same time. @nd that
:02:28. > :02:32.is the key question Londoners will ask ` can he do both jobs at the
:02:33. > :02:36.same time? And possibly somdthing of a gift to his political opponents.
:02:37. > :02:42.They have said, look, here hs a man who has changed his mind, hd told us
:02:43. > :02:46.he wouldn't, now he has. Now he ll be fighting the election, pretty
:02:47. > :02:50.much this time next year. Hd'll be a Conservative candidate here. Is it
:02:51. > :02:57.possible to do the two jobs at the same time? Ken Livingstone first did
:02:58. > :03:03.it in 2000. The pressure is different. Boris Johnson, mtch more
:03:04. > :03:08.high profile. Happenings in the Conservative Party. Is he trying to
:03:09. > :03:13.get David Cameron's job? Is it possible for him to keep an eye on
:03:14. > :03:15.the ball in London, while hhs eye may be on higher office elsdwhere?
:03:16. > :03:23.Thank you. a nursery worker who was innocently
:03:24. > :03:27.caught up in a gang shooting. Mother`of`one Sabrina Moss was
:03:28. > :03:30.shot in the heart outside a fast food shop in Kilburn last Atgust as
:03:31. > :03:49.she celebrated her 24th birthday. A Coroner into the death of Jacintha
:03:50. > :03:54.Saldanha has concluded she took her own life. She took a call from two
:03:55. > :03:58.Australian DJs, believing it to be the Queen and put it through to the
:03:59. > :04:05.nurse who then revealed det`ils of Kate's condition.
:04:06. > :04:07.Controversial plans for a multi`billion pound Thames
:04:08. > :04:10.super`sewer have been given the go`ahead. The 15`mile tunnel, which
:04:11. > :04:13.will run from Hammersmith to Newham, means higher water bills for all
:04:14. > :04:15.Thames Water customers. As our Environment Correspondent, Tom
:04:16. > :04:17.Edwards, reports opponents `re considering a legal challenge to the
:04:18. > :04:32.Work is already under way. The Thames tide way tunnel will divert
:04:33. > :04:37.overflowing sewerage into a super sewer, the company says it has
:04:38. > :04:40.modified its plans and taken into account opposition.
:04:41. > :04:46.We have really been listening to people. We have been putting
:04:47. > :04:52.measures in place that will mitigate the nuisance and minimise the amount
:04:53. > :04:57.of disruption. This is the problem every year sewerage ends up in the
:04:58. > :05:02.river. These old, Victorian sewers cannot cope during heavy rahnfall.
:05:03. > :05:07.The solution is to drill a 05`mile long super sewer from Hammersmith,
:05:08. > :05:14.to Newham, under the Thames, through 14 boroughs. There 's no surprise
:05:15. > :05:20.that it has been given the go ahead. These are preparetry works being
:05:21. > :05:26.carried out on the foreshord. This scheme will put ?80 on everx
:05:27. > :05:31.Londoner's water bill. This is a contentious project. Here in
:05:32. > :05:36.Bermondsey, like communities along the river, they don't want the noise
:05:37. > :05:39.and the loss of some green space. We expect noise, disruption of long
:05:40. > :05:45.duration. Seven years is a long time in the life of a community. Others
:05:46. > :05:47.believe there are more cost`effective solutions, lhke
:05:48. > :05:51.stopping storm water getting into the sewers in the first place using
:05:52. > :05:56.green walls. Some say the pollution in the Thames is not that b`d.
:05:57. > :05:59.Investors are now being sought for the project, but groups along the
:06:00. > :06:08.Thames are now considering ` legal challenge.
:06:09. > :06:11.So, I'll say goodnight and wish you a lovely weekend.
:06:12. > :06:21.And hand you over Stav Danaos for a look at the weather
:06:22. > :06:28.Most of the cloud was to thd north and the west. We had lovely warm
:06:29. > :06:32.sunshine. Overnight, it will be dry for most
:06:33. > :06:37.of us. There will be bits and pieces of cloud around, also some clear
:06:38. > :06:41.spells. The temperature shotld not fall below 11 Celsius. Cooldr in the
:06:42. > :06:45.countryside. Tomorrow is looking dry and bright for most of us again We
:06:46. > :06:50.will start off on a grey note. Clouds will break up at timds. We
:06:51. > :06:55.could see the odd passing shower. Most places should stay dry. In the
:06:56. > :06:59.sunshine we are looking at 21`2 Celsius. We have high presstre in
:07:00. > :07:03.control through the weekend. An easterly breeze across our region.
:07:04. > :07:07.On Sunday the breeze may be more of a feature, bringing in one or two
:07:08. > :07:13.showers into central parts of the capital. In the sunshine, some
:07:14. > :07:18.shelter again, we are looking 2 `22 Celsius. So, it is looking good for
:07:19. > :07:21.the weekend. Into next week, it stays mainly dry, with high pressure
:07:22. > :07:25.in control. More showers developing. Some be heavy. Some warm sunshine
:07:26. > :07:29.will develop. It looks like temperatures will be on the increase
:07:30. > :07:32.mid`next week. I will leave you with an outlook now for the next few
:07:33. > :07:46.days. We are in good shape. Most will stay
:07:47. > :07:50.dry. Hopefully you will see good spells of sunshine. It will be
:07:51. > :07:55.breezy as we go through southern areas. But not much, if any rain.
:07:56. > :08:01.Spare a thought for friends across south-Eastern Europe. We have had
:08:02. > :08:05.torrential downpours over Italy into the Balkans, parts of Greece and
:08:06. > :08:09.further heavy thundery downpours expected could cause further issues.
:08:10. > :08:14.You can see the extent of the cloud here. Back home we've had
:08:15. > :08:18.well-broken cloud. If you look to the north, there is a greater than
:08:19. > :08:21.average chance of seeing the northern lights, would you believe -
:08:22. > :08:22.that is because we
