:00:12. > :00:19.The stars of the British Olympic and Paralympic teams get ready to

:00:19. > :00:24.take part in a victory parade. This is the scene live as thousands

:00:24. > :00:28.gather to celebrate the success of the British teams. I think it's

:00:28. > :00:32.given the country a tremendous lift. I think it's brought the country

:00:32. > :00:41.together. I think it's given us memories that we will be talking

:00:41. > :00:46.about for years and generations to come. Other news, the bomb squad

:00:46. > :00:49.are called in as a cordon is extended around the Surrey home of

:00:49. > :00:51.the couple shot dead in France. And union bosses threaten

:00:51. > :00:58.coordinated mass strikes and civil disobedience, unless the Government

:00:58. > :01:01.changes course. Later on BBC London: One last celebration after

:01:01. > :01:11.the triumphant summer of sport. Londoners gather to hail the most

:01:11. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:36.successful Olympic and Paralympic Good afternoon and welcome to the

:01:36. > :01:39.BBC News at One. Tens of thousands of people are lining the streets of

:01:39. > :01:43.Central London to celebrate Britain's Olympic and Paralympic

:01:43. > :01:50.athletes, who are taking part in a victory parade beginning in just

:01:50. > :01:54.under half an hour. 21 open-top floats with around 750 athletes on

:01:54. > :02:00.board will make their way through the capital arriving in front of

:02:00. > :02:04.Buckingham Palace. The Mayor of London has promised a glorious

:02:04. > :02:08.Miasma of colour noise and excitement.

:02:08. > :02:12.Let's tell you where the route goes. It sets off from mansion House in

:02:12. > :02:16.the City of London just after 1.30pm. Members of the public can

:02:16. > :02:20.watch the floats as they pass St Paul's Cathedral, along Fleet

:02:20. > :02:26.Street and into the Strand before reaching Trafalgar Square. A big

:02:26. > :02:31.screen will be put at the base of Nelson's Column. It will broadcast

:02:31. > :02:34.the parade live. The route then moves down the Mall. That part is

:02:34. > :02:38.reserved for volunteers, emergency services and those who helped with

:02:38. > :02:41.the Games. It ends here with a fly past over Buckingham Palace. Let's

:02:41. > :02:47.go to the start of the route, as the athletes and organisers prepare,

:02:47. > :02:51.and join our correspondent, James Pearce. It's fantastic to be

:02:51. > :02:54.standing here at the start. The atmosphere has been building since

:02:54. > :02:58.early morning, people coming out to cheer. Can you see already the

:02:58. > :03:02.floats now starting to go into place. That's the cycling float you

:03:02. > :03:06.can see in front. Plenty of gold medals on that. The athletes have

:03:06. > :03:10.been divided up by sports. Can you see the size of the crowds already,

:03:10. > :03:19.just at the start, lining the route. We're expecting about a million

:03:19. > :03:22.people to cheer on these athletes. The hard work is done, now is the

:03:23. > :03:26.time to have some fun, to celebrate the achievements of our athletes,

:03:26. > :03:32.during a summer, the like of which we've never seen before and few of

:03:32. > :03:36.us are likely to live to see again. The Olympians and Paralympians have

:03:36. > :03:40.been arriving all morning. This is their day, a chance for the rest of

:03:40. > :03:44.us to say well done and thank you. It's an opportunity for the

:03:44. > :03:48.athletes to thank the public. This isn't really for us, it's for them.

:03:48. > :03:52.They've made the Games. They've created the atmosphere, supported

:03:52. > :03:56.the athletes and not just in the venues, out in the streets, in the

:03:57. > :04:00.pubs, at the public venues. It's been incredible. It's our chance to

:04:00. > :04:04.wave and thank them for the support. There was doubt whether we would

:04:04. > :04:08.perform and have this amazing Olympics that we'd talked about. We

:04:08. > :04:13.delivered on all levels. As athletes we can see children are

:04:13. > :04:18.inspired. I get a lot of letters and cards from children around the

:04:18. > :04:26.country. I know the others do as well. It all came to an end last

:04:26. > :04:29.night, the closing Sir Moany of the Paralympics. Coldplay provided the

:04:29. > :04:34.soundtrack. The man who made it happen had the opportunity to sum

:04:34. > :04:39.up the past month -and-a-half. There are some famous words you can

:04:39. > :04:48.find stamped on the bottom of a product, words that when you read

:04:48. > :04:52.them you know mean high quality, mean skill, mean creatist --

:04:52. > :04:56.creativity. We scam ped those words on the Olympic and Paralympic Games

:04:56. > :05:01.of London 2012. London 2012, made in Britain.

:05:01. > :05:05.CHEERING The athletes have been on quite a

:05:05. > :05:10.journey offer the past months. This afternoon they have just two-and-a-

:05:10. > :05:13.half miles to go, but they'll savour every minute. These are

:05:13. > :05:17.memories that need to last a lifetime.

:05:17. > :05:23.All the crowds here have got their favourites, people they've come to

:05:23. > :05:28.see. Alongside me now anyone who follows triathlon will want to get

:05:28. > :05:32.a photo. Alastair and Johnny Brownlee. What does it feel to be

:05:32. > :05:36.at the start? You can get a brief look at the crowds but there are

:05:36. > :05:40.bigger crowds to come. We keep getting shocked. How many people

:05:40. > :05:44.turn up and how many people shout at us. That will continue today.

:05:44. > :05:50.Already we've seen a bit of it. Even walking here from the train

:05:50. > :05:54.station it's been busy. We'll see how it goes. This is what makes it

:05:54. > :05:57.all worthwhile. Yeah it is special to see all these people come out

:05:57. > :06:01.and support us. The Olympics was a great few weeks for everyone

:06:01. > :06:05.involved in sport to. Experience that again is even better. During

:06:05. > :06:09.the race we couldn't take it in. We were working so hard and focused on

:06:09. > :06:12.the race to. Come here and people chanting our names is pretty

:06:13. > :06:16.special. Has anything changed since the Olympics? You're better known

:06:16. > :06:22.now than even two months ago. a lot has changed. We get

:06:22. > :06:26.recognised a lot more. We can't do anything wrong. When I go out

:06:26. > :06:30.running, we get shouted at. When we're cycling people beep us in

:06:30. > :06:36.cars. At restaurants people want photos. That's changed completely.

:06:36. > :06:39.That never happened before for a tri athlete. When we're at home, we

:06:39. > :06:45.could the same training we have done before, it is normal in that

:06:45. > :06:49.way. Thank you so much. Enjoit parade. -- enjoy the parade.

:06:49. > :06:52.Everyone's clapping, cheering. As every athlete comes out they get a

:06:52. > :06:59.round of applause. More of this through the afternoon.

:06:59. > :07:03.James, thank you. We will be returning to the London 2012 parade

:07:03. > :07:06.later in the programme. Other news first.

:07:06. > :07:09.Army bomb disposal officers have spent the morning at the home in

:07:09. > :07:14.Surrey of a British couple, shot dead in France last Wednesday.

:07:14. > :07:16.People living near the house in Claygate have had to move out while

:07:16. > :07:23.the search continues. Our correspondent Keith Doyle is there.

:07:24. > :07:28.What's happening? Yes, well a dramatic morning here in Claygate.

:07:28. > :07:31.Day three of the search of the al- Hilli home. Pretty early on this

:07:31. > :07:36.morning the police suddenly quickly and dramatically said there was a

:07:36. > :07:39.cordon. They moved the media away. They evacuated some of the

:07:39. > :07:44.surrounding homes. The neighbour has to come on the street, move

:07:44. > :07:47.away from their homes. Then the bomb disposal team from the Royal

:07:47. > :07:52.Logistic Corps arrived. They were here for a couple of hours. We

:07:52. > :07:56.understanding they were focused on an outbuilding, a work shop at the

:07:56. > :08:00.back of the home. They apparently looked at something in there. The

:08:00. > :08:04.police said due to our concerns about the items found at the home

:08:04. > :08:07.the police have evacuated neighbours. They said they were

:08:08. > :08:10.looking for a potentially explosive substance. Obviously they

:08:10. > :08:14.discovered that was not an immediate threat. They have moved

:08:14. > :08:17.off. In other developments, reports are coming from France saying that

:08:17. > :08:20.part of this investigation, the police have discovered that all the

:08:20. > :08:24.bullets fired last Wednesday killing the al-Hilli family came

:08:24. > :08:27.from the one weapon. A significant development on the investigation

:08:27. > :08:34.there, as the investigation continues here.

:08:34. > :08:39.Thank you. Union leaders have threatened the

:08:39. > :08:45.Government with mass strike action and civil disobedience unless it

:08:45. > :08:48.abandons austerity measures. This morning the TUC voted in favour of

:08:48. > :08:52.coordinated industrial action if public sector pay talks break down.

:08:52. > :08:57.From Brighton, here's our industry correspondent, John Moylan.

:08:57. > :09:01.# For the union makes us strong # . The past year has seen a surge in

:09:01. > :09:05.unrest. There are signs of more to come. The TUC is planning a huge

:09:05. > :09:08.demonstration next month against austerity. But one by one, union

:09:08. > :09:12.leaders lined up to say that campaign had to go further. The way

:09:12. > :09:18.to really shock the Government is to follow up the demonstration on

:09:18. > :09:25.October 20th as quickly as we can with mass coordinated strike action.

:09:25. > :09:29.Make that demonstration a catalyst of a mighty campaign of protest,

:09:29. > :09:31.direct action, civil disobedience and strike action. Trade unions

:09:31. > :09:35.believe that they're a force for good in the economy and

:09:35. > :09:38.particularly in the work place. But even as they meet, the Government

:09:38. > :09:46.has been announcing plans to shake up regulations which are designed

:09:46. > :09:50.to keep us safe at work. The plans announced today will see up to

:09:50. > :09:53.3,000 regulations overhauled or scrapped. Hundreds of thousands of

:09:53. > :09:56.smaller businesses will be exempt from health and safety skpections.

:09:56. > :10:01.Rules for claiming compensation against companies will be toughened

:10:01. > :10:04.up. We have the economy now lifting itself out of recession. We need to

:10:05. > :10:09.do everything we can to support business to create the jobs of the

:10:09. > :10:13.future. But unions see no sign of the economy turning around. In his

:10:13. > :10:16.last speech to congress as leader of the TU cufr, Brendan Barber

:10:16. > :10:20.launched a scathing attack on the Government's handling of the

:10:20. > :10:26.economy. It's time for change The Bells O Peover Government strategy

:10:26. > :10:29.is failing Britain. The economy is on its -- the -- it's time for

:10:29. > :10:37.change. The Government strategy is failing Britain. The economy is on

:10:37. > :10:45.its knees. This remarkable summer of cooperation and unity now looks

:10:45. > :10:50.set to be replaced by division and strife.

:10:50. > :10:54.That's the news this lunch time. Let's return to the parade of the

:10:54. > :10:57.Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The event also recognises the

:10:57. > :11:04.contribution of all the volunteers, or Games Makers. Our correspondent

:11:04. > :11:09.Robert Hall has been meeting some of them. He's in Trafalgar Square.

:11:09. > :11:12.Yes indeed. Plenty of those purple and red uniforms amongst the crowd.

:11:12. > :11:16.They're still arriving. Some people have followed this festival since

:11:16. > :11:20.the flame first arrived back in May. Some of them were lucky enough to

:11:20. > :11:28.watch the closing act last night. No-one wants to miss the tur kin --

:11:28. > :11:33.curtain call. Have a good day. final shift in a lifetime

:11:33. > :11:38.experience. Have a good day. year-old Dan left his job at a golf

:11:38. > :11:41.course to volunteer. He left the Olympic Village with new friends

:11:42. > :11:45.and self-confidence. I didn't used to be so outgoing with people and

:11:45. > :11:50.chaty. It's made me more of a confident person. It's really a

:11:50. > :11:54.great experience to be part of, just especially seeing as it's in

:11:54. > :11:59.the home kuntri. -- country. It's been great. Dan and his colleagues

:11:59. > :12:03.were left in no doubt of public opinion. Last night at plauz in the

:12:03. > :12:07.stadium thundered across East London. Today the Prime Minister

:12:07. > :12:12.echoed that. What a golden summer for our country. It's given the

:12:12. > :12:16.country a lift. It's brought the country together. I think it's

:12:16. > :12:20.given us memories that we will be talking about for years and

:12:20. > :12:23.generations to come. Along the parade route, early arrivals were

:12:23. > :12:29.staking their positions. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened

:12:29. > :12:34.in Britain, for me. I'll never see it again in my lifetime. I think

:12:34. > :12:40.it's been brilliant for the children, because she's already

:12:40. > :12:44.saying "When I win a Gold Medal..." It's lifted everyone's spirits.

:12:44. > :12:50.Around the parade Dan and his fellow Games Makers were asembling

:12:50. > :12:55.for what may be their last great reunion, time to reflect on a game-

:12:55. > :12:59.changing summer. It's fantastic, but it's sad to be at the end of it.

:12:59. > :13:03.No better excuse for a party within a party.

:13:03. > :13:08.Well, you know what, what's struck me about this is the way which

:13:08. > :13:13.we've all been drawn in. Tomorrow perhaps a return to reality. This

:13:13. > :13:20.perhaps also is the end of that perfect sporting summer.

:13:20. > :13:26.Thank you very much. It's been an ma -- amazing summer

:13:26. > :13:31.for Team GB. Let's see what it's been like for two of the stars,

:13:31. > :13:35.Sarah Storey and Ed Clancy who won gold in the Olympic cycling team

:13:35. > :13:41.pursuit and bronze in the Omnium. COMMENTATOR: What a ride this is!

:13:41. > :13:44.The crowd are going ballistic. reception from everyone, not just

:13:44. > :13:49.close friends and family, cyclists, the whole of GB, the home Olympics

:13:49. > :13:53.just went down so well, you know. People who no interest for Olympic

:13:53. > :13:57.sport before are mad for it. It's great that I can make a living out

:13:57. > :14:02.of riding my bike, even if I was rubbish, I'd still try to scrape a

:14:02. > :14:05.living. The fact that we've had that opportunity of a home Olympics,

:14:05. > :14:09.I guess, perhaps at peak of my career, is something that's not

:14:09. > :14:13.going to happen again. I'm just grateful that we had the

:14:13. > :14:19.opportunity and we capitalised on COMMENTATOR: She's coming into the

:14:19. > :14:24.straight. Very much mission accomplished. We wondered if it was

:14:24. > :14:27.possible 500 metres up to the road race. Darren Denny did it in

:14:27. > :14:34.Beijing. I knew it was possible, four golds in seven days, so

:14:34. > :14:37.chuffed. The velodrome was so noisy. Being able to have friends and

:14:37. > :14:42.family and people who have always watched on TV and not been able to

:14:42. > :14:45.be there and to have them at the stadium and Brands Hatch was superb.

:14:45. > :14:49.I hope we carry momentum into the future and the next generation

:14:50. > :14:54.carry that on and pass that down to their kids. I'm honoured to have

:14:54. > :14:58.competed for my country. This is my sixth Games. I still feel like a

:14:58. > :15:01.14-year-old inside. Every time that we've seen a medal won, seen a

:15:02. > :15:05.medal lost, it's been about sport, not disability or impairment.

:15:05. > :15:08.That's the most fantastic thing. Hopefully the wider public have

:15:08. > :15:11.been, have embraced the Games and had their inspiration taken from

:15:12. > :15:21.that as well as our Olympic colleagues as well. It's been that

:15:21. > :15:25.fantastic six weeks of sport that Sarah Storey and Ed Clancy. There a

:15:25. > :15:30.special programme that will bring you the parade in full. It starts

:15:30. > :15:36.just before 1.30 on BBC One. Now let's get a look at the weather. A

:15:36. > :15:38.few clouds are over Buckingham Palace, what is it going to be like,

:15:38. > :15:43.Palace, what is it going to be like, Sarah? There will be bright spells,

:15:43. > :15:48.although we can not rule out a light passing shower, it will be

:15:48. > :15:54.mainly dry. Warm, but not as warm as the weekend.

:15:54. > :15:58.This week the temperatures are dipping down to average, about 20

:15:58. > :16:02.Celsius. For this afternoon for most of us, a fairly cloudy and a

:16:02. > :16:05.bit of a breezy afternoon. We have wet weather across the north and

:16:05. > :16:12.western areas for Northern Ireland and Scotland to the far north-west

:16:12. > :16:17.of the UK. Some sunshine, but feeling chilly at 12 Celsius. The

:16:17. > :16:23.rain lingering in the south and central parts and to the east of

:16:23. > :16:27.the Pennines a little brighter, sunshine breaking through. Wet

:16:27. > :16:30.weather rolling into northern parts of Wales. Cloudy and rain for the

:16:30. > :16:35.south-west, but into the Midlands, the south-east, the breeze breaking

:16:35. > :16:38.up the cloud. The temperatures up to 20 Celsius in London. Through

:16:39. > :16:44.the evening, the next batch of wet weather sweeping in from the

:16:44. > :16:47.channel, that is joined by a cold front to head to the south and the

:16:47. > :16:51.east. Then cooler air sweeping in. Tomorrow a mix of sunshine and

:16:51. > :16:54.showers. This week it is more autumnal, but
