:00:00. > :00:08.A video claiming to show more than a hundred of the kidnapped Nigerian

:00:09. > :00:12.schoolgirls is released by the Islamist group Boko Haram. It says

:00:13. > :00:16.it won't release the Nigerian schoolgirls until all their

:00:17. > :00:20.militants are freed from prison. We'll be live in Borno province with

:00:21. > :00:24.our world affairs editor. Also this lunchtime: A woman has

:00:25. > :00:29.told a court of her shock at being assaulted by Rolf Harris while on

:00:30. > :00:33.holiday with his family in Hawaii. The Prime Minister says the Take

:00:34. > :00:38.That singer Gary Barlow doesn't need to hand back his OBE over the tax

:00:39. > :00:42.avoidance scheme he'd used. The toll of battle - there's a sharp

:00:43. > :00:47.increase in the number of Afghanistan veterans seeking help

:00:48. > :00:50.for post traumatic stress disorder. Countdown to Glasgow 2014 - the

:00:51. > :00:57.Commonwealth baton begins its 74 day tour of the British Isles.

:00:58. > :00:59.Later on BBC London, the former Essex County Council leader faces

:01:00. > :01:02.suspension from Parliament over his allowances.

:01:03. > :01:24.And warning of Muslims being radicalised in prison.

:01:25. > :01:31.Good afternoon and welcome to the BBC News at One. A new video said to

:01:32. > :01:34.show more than 130 of the missing schoolgirls, kidnapped in Nigeria

:01:35. > :01:39.almost a month ago, has been released by the Islamist group, Boko

:01:40. > :01:43.Haram. It shows pictures of the group's leader who says the girls

:01:44. > :01:46.will only be freed if members of his group are released from detention.

:01:47. > :01:58.Our correspondent Nick Childs reports.

:01:59. > :02:01.Images that are sure to renew the anguish but also maybe raise some

:02:02. > :02:05.hopes for the missing Nigerian schoolgirls. According to Boko

:02:06. > :02:09.Haram, this frightened looking group is more than 100 of the abducted

:02:10. > :02:14.girls. They are chanting verse from the Koran will stop their

:02:15. > :02:20.full-length garb is because they have converted to Islam, say Boko

:02:21. > :02:25.Haram. A militant leader sets out is demands in the video. He says he

:02:26. > :02:30.will release the girls only if members of Boko Haram are also set

:02:31. > :02:39.free from prison. Here, one girl from the group, shuffles anxiously

:02:40. > :02:44.forward, reciting the Koran. Here, a rather contracting image and a very

:02:45. > :02:51.different appearance. Four students reunited with their families a week

:02:52. > :02:53.after the abduction. The grief of these families over their missing

:02:54. > :02:59.children has reached an resonated around the world. Nearly a month now

:03:00. > :03:02.since the Boko Haram read that right this school and took away their

:03:03. > :03:08.pupils, the international effort to find them has widened. Israel has

:03:09. > :03:13.offered its expertise. The Nigerian military may be making a show of its

:03:14. > :03:19.presence on the ground now, but still the criticism grows over the

:03:20. > :03:24.authorities response. They will tell you they are doing their best. But

:03:25. > :03:26.we as parents, and I as a representative of the people, will

:03:27. > :03:34.only say the Government have done very well if the girls are back safe

:03:35. > :03:40.and healthy. If the girls are back. We don't know when or exactly where

:03:41. > :03:43.this video was recorded. The state governor of the region believes most

:03:44. > :03:46.of them are still in Nigeria and have not been taken across the

:03:47. > :03:52.border. What all this means for the chances of finding and freeing them

:03:53. > :03:57.is not clear. But it is sure to sharpen the global concern for their

:03:58. > :04:01.fate. A woman has been telling a jury how,

:04:02. > :04:04.as a teenager, she was sexually abused by Rolf Harris while she was

:04:05. > :04:07.on holiday with the entertainer and his family. Rolf Harris denies

:04:08. > :04:09.indecently assaulting her and three other girls, between 1968 and 1986.

:04:10. > :04:21.Our correspondent Sangita Myska is at Southwark Crown Court.

:04:22. > :04:26.Rolf Harris, once described as a national treasure, today came to

:04:27. > :04:29.court to face one of his accusers. She claims that Rolf Harris

:04:30. > :04:35.repeatedly sexually assaulted her over two decades. She says the abuse

:04:36. > :04:45.started when she was 13 years old on a family holiday to Hawaii. Flanked

:04:46. > :04:49.by his wife and his daughter, Rolf Harris arrived at court for the

:04:50. > :04:53.second day of his trial. It is Bindi's childhood friend who today

:04:54. > :04:58.accused the veteran childhood entertainer of abuse lasting more

:04:59. > :05:00.than two decades. Inside court, he listened intently through headphones

:05:01. > :05:23.as his alleged victim told the court:

:05:24. > :05:30.around the time of the alleged incident, Rolf Harris was well known

:05:31. > :05:33.and a much loved children's entertainer.

:05:34. > :05:36.It was that fame, said the alleged victim, but stopped speaking out and

:05:37. > :05:48.left her feeling disgusted with herself will stop she described her

:05:49. > :05:51.as a teenager she turned to alcohol. The alleged victim claims the abuse

:05:52. > :05:55.continued for several years after the holiday ended, including an

:05:56. > :06:01.incident at the Harris family home in Berkshire. Mr Harris is accused

:06:02. > :06:06.of 12 historic counts of indecent assault. There are at least four

:06:07. > :06:15.alleged victims. He denies the charges against him. Of those 12

:06:16. > :06:18.charges, seven relates to this particular victim. Her evidence is

:06:19. > :06:20.expected to continue for the afternoon.

:06:21. > :06:24.David Cameron has rejected calls for Gary Barlow to hand back his OBE,

:06:25. > :06:28.after a judge ruled the singer had invested in a scheme predominantly

:06:29. > :06:32.designed for tax avoidance. The Labour MP, Margaret Hodge, said the

:06:33. > :06:36.singer might now like to show a bit of contrition by giving back the

:06:37. > :06:40.award. Barlow and two other members of Take That, Howard Donald and Mark

:06:41. > :06:51.Owen, may have to repay millions of pounds in tax relief. Ross Hawkins

:06:52. > :06:55.reports. Should the boy band star who grew up

:06:56. > :07:00.to organise the Jubilee concert for the Queen, give back his OBE for

:07:01. > :07:05.trying to keep down his tax bill? The Prime Minister does not think

:07:06. > :07:08.so. Gary Barlow has done a huge amount for the country. He has

:07:09. > :07:13.raised money for charity, done very well for Children in Need. I am not

:07:14. > :07:18.sure the OBE is in respect of that work. But clearly this scheme was

:07:19. > :07:26.wrong. It is right they have to pay back the money. Among the investors

:07:27. > :07:38.in the scheme were Barlow along with Howard Donald and Mark Bowen.

:07:39. > :07:43.Larkdale LLP... The court has decided the losses were artificial.

:07:44. > :07:47.It all seems very distant from the moment in 2010 when David Cameron

:07:48. > :07:53.picked Gary Barlow to sprinkle a little stardust on his election

:07:54. > :07:57.campaign. It is a pleasure to share the stage with a founding member of

:07:58. > :08:04.Britain's best ever boy band, Gary Barlow. Things were much less matey

:08:05. > :08:09.with comedian Jimmy Carter to years later, when David Cameron said his

:08:10. > :08:14.tax arrangements were morally wrong. At the Treasury, all of the talk is

:08:15. > :08:18.of a crackdown. Somebody is cheating on their taxes, that is reducing

:08:19. > :08:24.resources in public services. It is socially unacceptable. Whatever the

:08:25. > :08:28.politicians say, after the adulation and euphoria could come the sort of

:08:29. > :08:32.tax bill that would bring even the brightest of stars down. --

:08:33. > :08:38.down-to-earth. And we can speak brightest of stars down. --

:08:39. > :08:42.Ross now. How difficult is it for the Prime Minister to be seen to be

:08:43. > :08:47.praising somebody who has aggressively been avoiding paying

:08:48. > :08:50.text? Avoiding taxes legal. The risk is if you put all your money into a

:08:51. > :08:57.company that is only there to plan for tax, you risk facing a massive

:08:58. > :09:00.bill after tax tribunal. The politicians would like British

:09:01. > :09:05.culture to substantially change so people feel so bad in their heart of

:09:06. > :09:08.hearts, they don't do this. They know there are plenty of lawyers and

:09:09. > :09:12.accountants coming up with this scheme. They are not going out of

:09:13. > :09:16.business any time soon. They know there is a real difficulty in

:09:17. > :09:20.appearing to show any sympathy with somebody accused of avoiding tax,

:09:21. > :09:24.but also going out of your way to publicly criticise them. Once you

:09:25. > :09:28.criticise one person, you get asked about the next. There is a political

:09:29. > :09:31.the message the Government wants to the message the Government wants to

:09:32. > :09:38.get out there about cracking down on tax avoidance.

:09:39. > :09:40.Pro-Russian separatists in part of eastern Ukraine have declared

:09:41. > :09:43.victory in an unofficial independence

:09:44. > :09:44.victory in an unofficial opposition from western leaders, and

:09:45. > :09:47.from the authorities in Kiev. Within opposition from western leaders, and

:09:48. > :09:48.hours of the polls closing in the Donetsk region, the organisers said

:09:49. > :09:56.89% of voters had backed a break Donetsk region, the organisers said

:09:57. > :10:06.Rainsford is in Donetsk, where the first results were announced.

:10:07. > :10:10.Rainsford is in Donetsk, where the As you are saying, we have

:10:11. > :10:12.Rainsford is in Donetsk, where the series of voices in the

:10:13. > :10:18.international community and from the Government in Kiev condemning this

:10:19. > :10:22.bold, talking about it as a legal -- illegal and a farce. The organisers

:10:23. > :10:28.are claiming a huge victory, talking about a landslide result in favour

:10:29. > :10:31.of self-rule. This boat has only added to the tensions here in what

:10:32. > :10:37.is becoming very rapidly a very deeply divided society. -- is this

:10:38. > :10:43.vote. The morning after the referendum. Sloviansk is their

:10:44. > :10:46.stronghold. There were clashes with government troops on the outskirts

:10:47. > :10:52.overnight. Now there is an uneasy calm. Activists have been collating

:10:53. > :10:56.the results of the vote. As expected, it declared a landslide

:10:57. > :11:02.victory for self-rule. This was no ordinary ballots. Held alongside the

:11:03. > :11:07.armed men now in control here. The rebels say this region has spoken

:11:08. > :11:10.now. It's destiny is decided. Away from the barricades, I found opinion

:11:11. > :11:15.deeply divided even among Russian speakers.

:11:16. > :11:18.TRANSLATION: There are lots of nationalities in this region, not

:11:19. > :11:23.just Russian. Why should they become Russian citizens just because some

:11:24. > :11:28.people you speak Russian? They want to live in Ukraine.

:11:29. > :11:30.TRANSLATION: I want to join Russia. This country can no longer be

:11:31. > :11:34.united. But on the streets here live does

:11:35. > :11:39.look pretty normal. People have gone back to work. They are going about

:11:40. > :11:42.their business. Just a few metres from here in City Hall, pro-Russian

:11:43. > :11:47.rebels are still in control. There aren't meant in checkpoints around

:11:48. > :11:52.the city. Russia, which had called on the rebels to put -- to postpone

:11:53. > :11:56.the referendum, say people have spoken and there will must be

:11:57. > :11:59.respected. TRANSLATION: We respect the will of

:12:00. > :12:05.the people of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. We hope the

:12:06. > :12:12.the people of the Luhansk and cementation of the referendum will

:12:13. > :12:15.proceed along civilised lines. International leaders have condemned

:12:16. > :12:20.the vote as a farce. The EU is discussing more sanctions. These

:12:21. > :12:24.attempted referendum sub zero and ability in the eyes of the world.

:12:25. > :12:28.They are illegal by anybody's standards. They do not meet a single

:12:29. > :12:36.standard of objectivity, transparency, fairness or being

:12:37. > :12:41.properly concocted. -- conducted. Dancer moving fast. The rebels are

:12:42. > :12:46.talking about a parallel government, even a military. Stepping back is

:12:47. > :12:49.becoming increasingly difficult. The situation here is extremely

:12:50. > :12:54.volatile, potentially very dangerous. And now Russia talking

:12:55. > :12:57.about the need for a dialogue within Ukraine between the east and the

:12:58. > :13:00.west of the country. The Government in Ukraine say they will not

:13:01. > :13:03.negotiate with what it calls terrorists in the east of the

:13:04. > :13:06.country. Two bodies have been found this

:13:07. > :13:09.morning by rescuers searching for three men who disappeared while

:13:10. > :13:12.kayaking on the River Tyne in Northumberland. The alarm was raised

:13:13. > :13:15.when the men failed to return home last night. Police, coastguards and

:13:16. > :13:28.an RAF team are continuing the search. Danny Savage is at Wylam in

:13:29. > :13:31.Northumberland. What was really noticeable about

:13:32. > :13:34.these rivers flowing out of the high Pennines over the weekend is that

:13:35. > :13:39.they were unseasonably high and flowing very fast. That is because

:13:40. > :13:43.we have had a lot of rain in this part of the country in the past

:13:44. > :13:50.three days. Those sort of conditions have to be a factor in this

:13:51. > :13:55.investigation. Tied to the top of the fire engine,

:13:56. > :14:01.this is believed to be one of three kayaks involved in a disastrous trip

:14:02. > :14:05.down the River Tyne yesterday. Three men were reported missing late last

:14:06. > :14:11.night. Searchers have found the bodies of two of them, but the other

:14:12. > :14:17.man is still missing. We look for two brothers aged 41 and 40, and the

:14:18. > :14:21.cousin aged 36. The three of them went to Hexham to commute down the

:14:22. > :14:27.river as they have done before. It was not until they were excessively

:14:28. > :14:32.late home that concern was expressed and we started to search.

:14:33. > :14:35.Unfortunately, at about 5:15am this morning we recovered one body. An

:14:36. > :14:42.hour later we recorded a second person. -- recovered. We are looking

:14:43. > :14:45.for a third person. Emergency services are spread out along this

:14:46. > :14:50.pretty stretch of the River Tyne, several miles west of Newcastle. As

:14:51. > :14:54.well as boats and binoculars, helicopters are also involved in the

:14:55. > :14:59.operation. Police say a car belonging to the kayakers was found

:15:00. > :15:04.close to a rowing club in Hexham. Another of their vehicles was

:15:05. > :15:07.located downriver. That is a distance of about 13 miles. Not far

:15:08. > :15:13.into their journey, things went badly wrong. Another of the kayaks

:15:14. > :15:16.was found near Corbridge. It was carried away by investigators. Were

:15:17. > :15:46.these suitable vessels for the conditions last night?

:15:47. > :15:57.Start-macro the conditions look pretty benign.

:15:58. > :16:10.Search crews are carrying up and down all the time, trying to locate

:16:11. > :16:13.the one last body. Our top story... A video claiming to show more than

:16:14. > :16:17.130 of the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls is released by the

:16:18. > :16:27.Islamist group, Boko Haram. It says it won't release the girls until all

:16:28. > :16:33.their members are freed from prison. We are live from St Helier where

:16:34. > :16:40.hundreds of people have watched the Queens baton relay on its first full

:16:41. > :16:44.day across the Channel Islands. On London, the First World War stories

:16:45. > :16:48.preserved for generations thanks to a new digital archive. As Ashley

:16:49. > :16:53.Cole bowed out of international football, we asked which London

:16:54. > :16:58.players will make it into the England squad.

:16:59. > :17:04.There has been a significant increase in the number of UK

:17:05. > :17:10.veterans of the Afghanistan conflict seeking mental health treatment. A

:17:11. > :17:14.leading charity, Combat Stress, said it had received 358 new referrals in

:17:15. > :17:17.2013, a 57% rise on the previous year. The charity, which currently

:17:18. > :17:19.supports more than 660 Afghanistan veterans, said the issue would

:17:20. > :17:22.become heightened as UK forces prepare to leave the country. Our

:17:23. > :17:29.defence correspondent, Caroline Wyatt, reports.

:17:30. > :17:37.British forces have fought in Helmand since 2006. The UK 's role

:17:38. > :17:42.in the war may soon be over but some face new battles back at home.

:17:43. > :17:47.Physical wounds can be easier to see and treat but mental scars may

:17:48. > :17:54.remain. Former reservist Jack Wood saw friends die in front of him in

:17:55. > :17:59.Helmand. He still suffers from post-traumatic stress. His book

:18:00. > :18:06.describes the trauma veterans can feel on return from combat. I was

:18:07. > :18:10.constantly on alert for dangers around me. That is the mentality you

:18:11. > :18:17.have in Afghanistan. You bring this home with you. I was getting

:18:18. > :18:27.terrible dreams, always revolving around either killing people or

:18:28. > :18:31.seeing people killed. Combat Stress has said it has seen a sharp rise in

:18:32. > :18:36.soldiers who fought in Afghanistan seeking its help although it is

:18:37. > :18:42.still hard for many to admit they need it. Many pretend they can solve

:18:43. > :18:44.the problems themselves. We train soldiers to solve problems. That

:18:45. > :18:50.training makes them very good soldiers and make them very bad at

:18:51. > :18:55.asking for help. Maybe it is not all great. I am going through a real

:18:56. > :19:01.mind map at the moment. Do I need to talk about it? No. An ad campaign

:19:02. > :19:06.launched three years ago encouraged soldiers to come forward. Veterans

:19:07. > :19:13.of Afghanistan are seeking help sooner, after 18 months, rather than

:19:14. > :19:18.waiting for 13 years. It is not entirely clear why veterans of the

:19:19. > :19:24.campaign in Afghanistan are coming for most -- forward earlier for help

:19:25. > :19:32.than in other campaigns but the MoD is keen to help with the stigma of

:19:33. > :19:36.combat. British Bull says are preparing to leave Helmand. The task

:19:37. > :19:44.now is to ensure those struggling with mental wounds are not left to

:19:45. > :19:48.cope alone. The Olympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius, has had an anxiety

:19:49. > :19:52.disorder since childhood and was anxious about violent crime. That is

:19:53. > :19:59.according to a psychiatrist giving evidence at his murder trial. It is

:20:00. > :20:05.said the actions should be seen in the context of his anxiety. The

:20:06. > :20:08.double amputee denies intentionally killing Reeva Steenkamp. Our

:20:09. > :20:14.correspondent is outside the court in Pretoria. Take us through what

:20:15. > :20:20.has been said. A very significant day in this trial. The defence

:20:21. > :20:25.psychiatrist was brought in, basically, to try to explain to the

:20:26. > :20:33.court the sense of vulnerability, the disability experienced by after

:20:34. > :20:34.the stories. -- Oscar Pistorius. He had an anxiety disorder

:20:35. > :20:38.the stories. -- Oscar Pistorius. He to where he had his legs amputated.

:20:39. > :20:47.He normal person would do about that.

:20:48. > :20:51.She said the night that Reeva Steenkamp was killed, Oscar the

:20:52. > :20:58.stories was much more likely to have a fight rather than a flight

:20:59. > :21:04.instinct. -- Oscar Pistorius. He was more likely to confront perceived

:21:05. > :21:08.danger than run away from it. She said he was not mentally ill and new

:21:09. > :21:15.right from wrong. The prosecutor said, if you are using his mental

:21:16. > :21:19.health as a defence, then he should be submitted for psychiatric

:21:20. > :21:23.evaluation by the court. There has been some toing and froing on that

:21:24. > :21:28.in the last few minutes. Basically, it looks like the prosecution will

:21:29. > :21:33.ask for that. If the judge agrees, we could see this trial delayed by a

:21:34. > :21:41.month or more. Thank you very much for that. The CBI has issued a

:21:42. > :21:44.warning about the risks of unsustainable house price

:21:45. > :21:47.inflation. The employers organisation says that policymakers

:21:48. > :21:51.need to be alert to the risks associated with rising prices. It

:21:52. > :21:56.also says the Bank of England may raise interest rates early next

:21:57. > :22:01.year. With me is keep him. I think the Governor of the Bank of England

:22:02. > :22:13.will be speaking about this later in the week. -- with me is Hugh Pym. It

:22:14. > :22:18.is becoming a pretty big talking point. The CBI is upbeat about the

:22:19. > :22:23.British economy. It says prospects are bright and they do expect a

:22:24. > :22:26.broader recovery this year. They are bringing forward their forecast of

:22:27. > :22:30.when interest rates may go up from the historic rate of .5% we have had

:22:31. > :22:33.for quite a few years now. They think it will happen in the early

:22:34. > :22:37.part of next year, the first three months. They are joining various

:22:38. > :22:45.other commentators who take that view. Others expected to happen

:22:46. > :22:47.later in the year. If it did happen in the first three months, that

:22:48. > :22:51.would be before the general election. A pretty important move if

:22:52. > :22:56.that does happen. They say the rate of house price inflation does look

:22:57. > :23:01.unsustainable. Some suggest double figure growth in quite a few areas

:23:02. > :23:04.above 10%, that is. Therefore, action quite possibly may be
