:01:51. > :01:53.and welcome to the BBC News at One. The first planes carrying the bodies

:01:54. > :01:55.of victims of the Malaysian Airlines crash has left Kharkiv in Ukraine

:01:56. > :01:59.bound for the Netherlands. A ceremony attended by ambassadors

:02:00. > :02:02.and officials was held at the airport intended to give the

:02:03. > :02:06.victims, in the words of one, the In the Netherlands,

:02:07. > :02:11.there's a national day of mourning The Dutch prime minister will meet

:02:12. > :02:16.the planes when they land The bodies will then be taken away

:02:17. > :02:20.for identification, In a moment we'll hear from

:02:21. > :02:25.our correspondents in Eindhoven, but first this report from

:02:26. > :02:39.Daniel Sandford who's in Kharkiv. The journey began at the rundown

:02:40. > :02:44.flat jury where the bodies were stored overnight. -- factory. The

:02:45. > :02:49.Dutch and Ukrainian governments were determined that the flight home

:02:50. > :02:53.should happen with as much inanity is possible. 16 simple wooden

:02:54. > :02:57.coffins were taken to a Dutch military plane and noted for the

:02:58. > :03:02.flight to the Netherlands. For coffins were kept behind for a

:03:03. > :03:08.simple ceremony. It is an attempt by the Ukrainians to give some dignity

:03:09. > :03:13.to the departure of the victims of the flight whose lives were cut

:03:14. > :03:16.short in a war that had nothing to do with them. For the bodies in all

:03:17. > :03:25.will be flown to date to the Netherlands for identification.

:03:26. > :03:29.It will still be a long journey. We have a painful identification

:03:30. > :03:33.process to go through which will take time. The Dutch government

:03:34. > :03:39.wants to assure family members of those concerns that we want to do

:03:40. > :03:43.the identifications as quickly as possible with full respect for human

:03:44. > :03:53.dignity. Then there was a minute's silence.

:03:54. > :03:56.And the last coffins were loaded. At present nobody knows whose relatives

:03:57. > :04:02.are in them. They could be Dutch, Malaysian, Australian, Indonesian or

:04:03. > :04:07.British. They could be from Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, Canada or

:04:08. > :04:12.New Zealand. They could be passengers or crew.

:04:13. > :04:18.We need to remember that for each of these bodies are grieving and

:04:19. > :04:23.friends and for each of those bodies there is a life that has been

:04:24. > :04:27.needlessly lost. By the end of the day, 40 V Dems

:04:28. > :04:34.should be in the Netherlands. By the end of the week it should be over

:04:35. > :04:39.200. -- victims. But dozens, no one quite sure how many, are still

:04:40. > :04:47.missing in the charred fields of Ukraine. And the bodies are being

:04:48. > :04:53.flown back. But it has not been an easy task to get to this stage? It

:04:54. > :04:58.has been a difficult operation. Here in Kharkiv is a big international

:04:59. > :05:02.team that had been working on this. Where the plane came down is a good

:05:03. > :05:06.five Hours Drive from here and it is in the middle of territory

:05:07. > :05:11.controlled by unpredictable gunman who feel that the West are against

:05:12. > :05:17.them put up so anyone going there is immediately subject to suspicion.

:05:18. > :05:22.The bodies were scattered over a wide area, some badly damaged. It

:05:23. > :05:24.has been difficult first of all to find the bodies and the

:05:25. > :05:29.international team have had to rely a lot on people in the rebel

:05:30. > :05:33.territories to do that for them. It has been difficult then to get the

:05:34. > :05:38.train which brought them out of the rebel territory, negotiated across

:05:39. > :05:44.what effectively is the front-line in a pretty nasty civil war. So it

:05:45. > :05:51.has been a tough operation and even here in Kharkiv they have to work in

:05:52. > :05:52.a tank factory because that is the most appropriate place where they

:05:53. > :05:54.can prepare the bodies and put most appropriate place where they

:05:55. > :05:59.can prepare the bodies and them in those simple wooden coffins to be

:06:00. > :06:03.sent to the Netherlands for identification. This is just the

:06:04. > :06:07.beginning. We have we think around 200 bodies here in Kharkiv. It is

:06:08. > :06:12.not known quite how many are missing in the field of eastern Ukraine or

:06:13. > :06:18.how many there are waiting a second train. But we are still hoping they

:06:19. > :06:24.had got most people out of here, certainly by the end of the week.

:06:25. > :06:26.In the Netherlands, relatives are waiting at the airport

:06:27. > :06:29.for the first of the planes carrying the victims' bodies to arrive.

:06:30. > :06:42.A shrine at Schiphol airport now marks the point from which the

:06:43. > :06:44.passengers departed. Tributes from across the world, a reflection of

:06:45. > :06:52.the international nature of this catastrophe. The flowers are already

:06:53. > :06:57.appearing here. One card reads, why did this have to happen? Is the

:06:58. > :07:01.military aircraft come into land bells will chime across the country.

:07:02. > :07:05.The families of the passengers on board that Malaysian airlines flight

:07:06. > :07:09.will be waiting but none will no if their loved ones are inside those

:07:10. > :07:14.wooden coffins. The Netherlands is a reserved

:07:15. > :07:21.nation. Mourning the loss of innocent people caught up in someone

:07:22. > :07:24.else's's battle. We have been waiting for a couple of days and now

:07:25. > :07:30.it is an important day for the people here and in the whole

:07:31. > :07:35.country. We see it on everybody's faces. They want their children

:07:36. > :07:44.back. In the rural village here a family

:07:45. > :07:49.of six, their deaths have left a hole in the heart of this

:07:50. > :07:55.community, now united by grief. And elsewhere, a photo in the window

:07:56. > :08:01.reminding us of this family's loss. The coffins accompanied by a police

:08:02. > :08:06.escort will be driven to a military facility about an hour away from

:08:07. > :08:07.Eindhoven. Behind these barriers is where the process of identifying the

:08:08. > :08:15.bodies will begin. Daniel Boettcher is in Eindhoven

:08:16. > :08:26.where the plane carrying There is still the process of

:08:27. > :08:34.identification to happen. So some relief for some families today but a

:08:35. > :08:39.grim task ahead. There has been a sense of anger at the long delay in

:08:40. > :08:42.being able to recover the bodies from the crash site. Today the

:08:43. > :08:47.family is at least know that somebody's will be brought to the

:08:48. > :08:51.Netherlands here. 40 of them on those transport planes. But they

:08:52. > :08:55.have not been identified. That will start after a ceremony here when the

:08:56. > :09:00.coffins are taken to a different military facility. But the Dutch

:09:01. > :09:03.Prime Minister said he believed the process could take weeks or even

:09:04. > :09:07.months to complete. Dutch authorities have been speaking to

:09:08. > :09:11.relatives, each family is a specially trained police liaison

:09:12. > :09:14.officer and they have been gathering information from families and were

:09:15. > :09:19.possible collect ting DNA samples to help in the identification process.

:09:20. > :09:23.But the awful truth is families still do not know when their loved

:09:24. > :09:26.ones will be returned to them or when bodies can be repatriated here

:09:27. > :09:32.from the Netherlands to other countries including Britain.

:09:33. > :09:34.It's emerged that licences to sell British arms worth millions

:09:35. > :09:37.of pounds to Russia remain in place despite fears that Moscow

:09:38. > :09:42.A committee of MPs said more than 200 licences for the sale of arms,

:09:43. > :09:45.including components for anti-aircraft guns, remained in

:09:46. > :09:50.force - and that only 31 had been revoked or suspended since March.

:09:51. > :09:53.Downing Street insists that Britain is presently sending no military

:09:54. > :09:59.Our security correspondent Frank Gardner is here.

:10:00. > :10:03.Who is right, the MPs or the government?

:10:04. > :10:11.I think you have two drill down into who says what. What these committees

:10:12. > :10:19.of MPs are saying is that the licences are still in place in 251

:10:20. > :10:22.cases. That does not mean to say that they have been activated and

:10:23. > :10:28.exports have been made. There is a gap between that. But I think there

:10:29. > :10:34.are a couple of issues. One is the global security issue. What are

:10:35. > :10:38.these licenses are doing in place, authorising in theory the sale of

:10:39. > :10:43.items like sniper rifles, small arms ammunition, body armour and

:10:44. > :10:50.communications equipment, to Russia at a time like this, when Russia is

:10:51. > :10:54.accused of arming and supporting the rebels in eastern Ukraine. The

:10:55. > :10:59.second issue is of hypocrisy because written has been at the forefront of

:11:00. > :11:04.imploring and criticising European nations for exporting arms to Russia

:11:05. > :11:12.especially France which has got a billion-dollar plus order to supply

:11:13. > :11:16.helicopter carriers to Russia. David Cameron does not want them to do

:11:17. > :11:20.that. The French have rounded on Britain and said this is hypocrisy.

:11:21. > :11:24.It does not look good. They will have to drill down into exactly

:11:25. > :11:30.which of these licences they are going to keep in place and which

:11:31. > :11:36.will be revoked. Only 31 have so far been revoked.

:11:37. > :11:38.Labour are writing to the Prime Minister to demand he

:11:39. > :11:41.justifies a ?160,000 donation to the Conservative party from the wife

:11:42. > :11:57.The Prime Minister is under pressure on the issue of the arms export

:11:58. > :12:00.licences and also this donation of ?160,000 to the Conservative Party.

:12:01. > :12:05.This is money that was paid by the wife of a Russian oligarch at the

:12:06. > :12:10.party fund-raising event for the chance to play tennis with the Prime

:12:11. > :12:13.Minister and with Boris Johnson, the London mayor. Boris Johnson has

:12:14. > :12:17.already said he's prepared to reconsider but no of any such

:12:18. > :12:22.contrition when the Prime Minister. Conservative Party spokesman has

:12:23. > :12:26.said that a nation is legitimate and all within the rules and there is no

:12:27. > :12:30.reason for them to reconsider the donation or pay the money back as

:12:31. > :12:34.Labour is asking. Nonetheless it was make it awkward for the Prime

:12:35. > :12:37.Minister as he is seeking to claim the moral high ground on the

:12:38. > :12:40.international stage and get agreement across the EU on tougher

:12:41. > :12:44.sanctions against Russia. And you can watch the developments

:12:45. > :12:46.at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands throughout the

:12:47. > :12:56.afternoon on the BBC News Channel. The American Secretary of State,

:12:57. > :12:59.John Kerry, has arrived in Israel to try to negotiate a ceasefire between

:13:00. > :13:02.both sides in the conflict in Gaza. He's due to meet the president

:13:03. > :13:04.of the Palestinian Authority Earlier Israel criticised a decision

:13:05. > :13:08.by all American airlines - and some European ones - to suspend

:13:09. > :13:13.flights to Tel Aviv for 24 hours. Our correspondent Bethany Bell

:13:14. > :13:26.reports from Ben Gurion Airport Overnight the Israeli army said it

:13:27. > :13:32.carried out 200 air strikes. This house in southern Gaza was hit. The

:13:33. > :13:39.death toll continues to rise. Over 600 Palestinians have been killed in

:13:40. > :13:46.the past two weeks. Hamas militants have fired more rockets into Israel.

:13:47. > :13:51.Yesterday one hit this house close to the main airport. As result US

:13:52. > :13:57.airlines and a number of European carriers have suspended their

:13:58. > :14:02.flights to Tel Aviv. Officials at the airport say that traffic is down

:14:03. > :14:05.about 50%. A number of flights are still

:14:06. > :14:10.operating in and out of Tel Aviv. Other has not been this must

:14:11. > :14:16.disruption at the airport since the first Gulf War in 1991. This is a

:14:17. > :14:21.major transport hub. Many Israelis are concerned that the decision to

:14:22. > :14:28.suspend flights gives Hamas a symbolic victory. Israel's leaders

:14:29. > :14:36.say the airport is safe. They are putting pressure on the United

:14:37. > :14:42.States for flights to resume. We regret that airlines have

:14:43. > :14:48.suspended flights. The real answer to the danger of flying is not to

:14:49. > :14:57.stop the flights but to stop the rockets. If any softness or

:14:58. > :15:03.understanding is shown to those who fired the rockets it is in my

:15:04. > :15:08.judgement endangering air traffic in the entire world. One claim that did

:15:09. > :15:13.arrive today was carrying the US Secretary of State John Kerry. He is

:15:14. > :15:17.holding talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders to try to help

:15:18. > :15:23.negotiate a cease-fire. In Israel and other soldier is laid to rest.

:15:24. > :15:27.So far over 30 Israelis have been killed in this conflict and there is

:15:28. > :15:33.little sign that the fighting is about to end.

:15:34. > :15:38.Our middle east correspondent Yolande Knell is in Gaza.

:15:39. > :15:45.Has there been any reaction from Hamas about the suspension of

:15:46. > :15:49.flights? The Hamas run TV channel here has been picking up on those

:15:50. > :15:52.develop mats at Tel Aviv airport, as you may expect, portraying them as a

:15:53. > :15:57.big achievement for the militants. Very often the rockets fired from

:15:58. > :16:01.Gaza intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defence system, land in open

:16:02. > :16:06.areas in Israel, and so the militants here feel this could

:16:07. > :16:12.strengthen their hand as these international efforts go on to try

:16:13. > :16:18.to get some sort of cease-fire deal. The only other thing I have found

:16:19. > :16:23.out talking to people in the market is the different Palestinian

:16:24. > :16:26.factions have come up with a more united position of what they want

:16:27. > :16:31.from an Egyptian proposed deal. We expect their leaders to go to Cairo

:16:32. > :16:35.to continue these discussions in the coming days. Chief among the

:16:36. > :16:39.conditions for a truce is the very tight border restrictions that are

:16:40. > :16:45.imposed both by Israel and Egypt should be eased. Thank you for

:16:46. > :16:47.joining us. The time is just after 1:15pm.

:16:48. > :16:52.The bodies of the first victims of the Malaysian Airlines crash have

:16:53. > :16:53.left Ukraine bound for the Netherlands.

:16:54. > :16:57.The death of Peaches Geldof was drugs related,

:16:58. > :17:06.From horses to elephants - we'll meet the team behind the big blue

:17:07. > :17:08.elephant making a move to the West End.

:17:09. > :17:11.The cyclist who broke his back riding across Europe

:17:12. > :17:14.- he's retracing his journey for charity and this time peddling with

:17:15. > :17:27.It's all eyes on Glasgow today ahead of tonight's opening ceremony

:17:28. > :17:33.The Queen will declare the games open for what's being

:17:34. > :17:37.described as Scotland's biggest ever sporting party.

:17:38. > :17:40.Around 4,500 athletes from 71 nations and territories will

:17:41. > :17:43.compete in 17 sports over the next 11 days - and there's a real

:17:44. > :17:52.Jane Hill is in our Commonwealth Games studio in Glasgow.

:17:53. > :17:56.Hello and welcome to Glasgow to our studio

:17:57. > :18:08.It is fair to say there is a lot of excitement in the city in the run-up

:18:09. > :18:16.to this evening's opening ceremony at Celtic Park, helped by this

:18:17. > :18:20.glorious weather, I have to say. The opening ceremony is almost sold out,

:18:21. > :18:24.40,000 people will be in the stadium at Celtic Park and anything up to 1

:18:25. > :18:31.billion people could be tuning in to watch it all across the globe. The

:18:32. > :18:35.anticipation is being felt across the whole country, not just in

:18:36. > :18:39.Glasgow. Big screens will showcase the action for anyone who has not

:18:40. > :18:43.got a ticket. This is the scene on Glasgow Green where one of the big

:18:44. > :18:48.screens will be set up for people to watch throughout the games. There is

:18:49. > :18:51.still a hunt for tickets amongst some as you mentioned, and the

:18:52. > :18:54.athletes who have arrived over the last few days, perhaps some of them

:18:55. > :19:03.are finding their bearings around the city. Lorna Gordon has our first

:19:04. > :19:08.report. Counting down to the games. The clock has been ticking for

:19:09. > :19:12.almost seven years. It is now in its final hours. Glasgow's big moment is

:19:13. > :19:17.almost here and the city is bursting with both locals and visitors in a

:19:18. > :19:22.last-minute dash for seats. The queue for tickets is growing and

:19:23. > :19:26.some people have already been waiting here for a good couple of

:19:27. > :19:30.hours. Some people are picking up tickets. Others have heard that some

:19:31. > :19:33.sports still have seats available, and that there are even tickets

:19:34. > :19:40.remaining for the opening ceremony itself. Right now today going

:19:41. > :19:45.tonight I can't wait, it is worth every penny of ?720. I can't believe

:19:46. > :19:50.it! I could have gone to be be Hamas! Opening ceremony and 100

:19:51. > :19:58.meter finals. They must be considered golden tickets, opening

:19:59. > :20:02.ceremony and 100 metre final. I hope my daughter appreciates it. In the

:20:03. > :20:06.centre we found the cycling team from Swaziland finding their

:20:07. > :20:11.benefits. There is Glasgow Green and we are somewhere over here coming up

:20:12. > :20:16.to St Vincent Street. What is the street called? This is Cannon

:20:17. > :20:22.Street. Cannon Street. Trying to work out the route? We are a bit

:20:23. > :20:27.lost. Some of those who tasted success in London looking for more

:20:28. > :20:31.in Glasgow. We had a bit of disappointment when it was in Delhi

:20:32. > :20:35.and we are focused on this and my season has been based all about it

:20:36. > :20:40.and I will do my best. Security at the venues themselves is now tight.

:20:41. > :20:44.The Games will get underway at Celtic Park. It is quiet now but

:20:45. > :20:47.this evening it will be packed for the opening ceremony where up to 1

:20:48. > :20:52.billion people will be watching worldwide. We are going to try to be

:20:53. > :20:55.the Commonwealth Games in our Glasgow and do it our own way and we

:20:56. > :20:59.are confident that we are going to really impress some people and it

:21:00. > :21:06.will be a very distinct and authentic event. This morning that

:21:07. > :21:13.you cant that is of rough visited one of the game's venues and enjoy

:21:14. > :21:16.the flavour of the action to come. For the last 40 days the Queen's

:21:17. > :21:21.Baton relay has journey through much of Scotland. Today it reached the

:21:22. > :21:24.athletes village. The message contains from the Queen to the

:21:25. > :21:25.Commonwealth will tonight be read out as the 20th Commonwealth Games

:21:26. > :21:35.commences. In terms of the host nations

:21:36. > :21:40.Scotland's athletes are hoping to make a lasting impression on the

:21:41. > :21:45.medal table. Team Scotland is the largest team ever in its history.

:21:46. > :21:49.310 competitors all eyeing a medal, as Chris McLaughlin now reports.

:21:50. > :21:52.Sir Chris Hoy handing over the Team Scotland flag and with it the

:21:53. > :21:57.Whenever you represent your nation it is a moment of pride and

:21:58. > :22:01.You want to do your absolute best for your country.

:22:02. > :22:05.When it is at home it is an even bigger deal.

:22:06. > :22:07.I have fought in some big events in Scotland before.

:22:08. > :22:13.And then when it is a home multi-sport Games,

:22:14. > :22:15.when it is a Commonwealth Games, that is the pinnacle.

:22:16. > :22:20.As Team Scotland's flag bearer heroics of the past were played out

:22:21. > :22:31.A reminder, if one was needed, of what is expected on home soil.

:22:32. > :22:33.Before the action the Carnival of sport was kick-started when

:22:34. > :22:39.Here at the Athletes' Village Team Scotland are providing a warm

:22:40. > :22:43.welcome to the other 17 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

:22:44. > :22:46.But they know when the battle for medals begins

:22:47. > :22:51.on Thursday home advantage could make all the difference.

:22:52. > :22:54.Stars like Michael Jamieson will be part of the biggest ever Scotland

:22:55. > :23:05.Gold medals in double figures the dream.

:23:06. > :23:08.He is the poster boy, but after the big build-up there is

:23:09. > :23:21.Apart from these kind of photos being up everywhere

:23:22. > :23:24.and the billboards being up I feel a sense of responsibility being one

:23:25. > :23:29.Coming up with some good results in the past couple of years

:23:30. > :23:35.I do want to try my best to take on that mantle really, and to try,

:23:36. > :23:39.The Games will leave their mark on Glasgow.

:23:40. > :23:42.Now it is down to Scotland's athletes to leave their mark

:23:43. > :23:53.With me here is Lord Smith of Kelvin, the chairman of Glasgow

:23:54. > :23:58.2014. Welcome. What will success look like for you? Full stadium,

:23:59. > :24:05.pretty good result for Team Scotland, but that is special

:24:06. > :24:08.pleading. I just think people enjoying themselves and records

:24:09. > :24:12.broken and so on. We are going to have pretty full stadium right

:24:13. > :24:17.across the piece. That in terms of the 11 days of competition. What

:24:18. > :24:23.about after that? How confident are you that a legacy will be left? I'm

:24:24. > :24:26.actually very confident because the legacy is already effectively there.

:24:27. > :24:31.Our venues have been open for at least a year in every case and some

:24:32. > :24:36.of a new venues we have had children and Championships taking place

:24:37. > :24:41.there. We have had sporting clubs set up and expanded and augmented

:24:42. > :24:44.and we have more coaching certificates than we have ever had

:24:45. > :24:48.in our history in Scotland. People are actually engaged even before the

:24:49. > :24:54.heroes started arriving a few days ago. I was in the athletes city in

:24:55. > :24:57.the East End of the city. That is a particular area that was targeted

:24:58. > :25:01.for regeneration. Are you confident when this has moved on that that

:25:02. > :25:05.will be something positive for local people in the East End? Yes it will.

:25:06. > :25:09.Some of the housing conditions were very bad and there are 700 houses

:25:10. > :25:14.across the banks of the Clyde and more than half of those will be

:25:15. > :25:17.available as affordable housing and just under half available for owner

:25:18. > :25:22.occupation. It has completely changed the East End of Glasgow.

:25:23. > :25:26.East End of Glasgow was not a great place but it certainly is a great

:25:27. > :25:30.place now. Lord Smith of Kelvin enjoy the competitions and thank you

:25:31. > :25:34.for being with us. Much more from here to come. Back to you, Rita.

:25:35. > :25:37.The coroner at the inquest into the death of the television

:25:38. > :25:39.presenter Peaches Geldof has said that her death was drugs related.

:25:40. > :25:45.There was no indication of any third party involvement.

:25:46. > :25:50.Duncan Kennedy is at Gravesend Coroners court.

:25:51. > :25:55.Today we learned of the detail surrounding the death of Peaches

:25:56. > :26:02.Geldof, this young actress and socialite, and of a life spent

:26:03. > :26:06.struggling to cope with addiction. We learned she was an addict, came

:26:07. > :26:09.of it and then went back on it in the weeks and months before her

:26:10. > :26:16.death. And it was heroin that finally killed her. Her widowed

:26:17. > :26:19.husband Tom was the one who found Peaches Geldof dead and he came to

:26:20. > :26:25.the inquest to relive her final months and to tell of her fight to

:26:26. > :26:28.control her drug abuse. There is no way I'm going to beat this. The

:26:29. > :26:32.hearing heard that Peaches Geldof had been a heroin addict for many

:26:33. > :26:37.years but had appeared to be trying to come off it. She was found dead

:26:38. > :26:41.surrounded by the kit used to inject heroin. Its purity was twice that of

:26:42. > :26:48.regular street heroin. Worth somewhere between ?350 and ?550. In

:26:49. > :26:53.the inquest her husband Tom was asked if Peaches Geldof was a heroin

:26:54. > :26:57.addict. Yes, he replied. He was then asked whether Peaches Geldof had

:26:58. > :27:01.lied to him about drugs test she was taking. The coroner said:

:27:02. > :27:08.Yes, he replied. The lead detective in the case said there was no

:27:09. > :27:11.indication that Peaches Geldof intended to kill herself and that

:27:12. > :27:17.she had appeared normal after her death. Peaches Geldof was found at

:27:18. > :27:21.her house in Kent in April two months after going back on heroin.

:27:22. > :27:24.Police say they found 34 syringes here and that she had once flushed

:27:25. > :27:32.Shem heroin down the toilet after her husband had confronted her about

:27:33. > :27:35.drugs. -- flushed some syringes. Her father was not at the hearing but

:27:36. > :27:39.spoke recently about the profound sense of loss he continues to feel.

:27:40. > :27:50.I'm walking down the road and suddenly out of the blue there is an

:27:51. > :27:54.awareness of her. And I buckle. The coroner concluded her death was

:27:55. > :28:02.drugs related. Peaches Geldof was 25 years old. The coroner also asked if

:28:03. > :28:07.this was a case of history repeating itself, a reference to Peaches

:28:08. > :28:11.Geldof's mother Paula Yates who died from a heroin overdose in the year

:28:12. > :28:15.2000. He said this was not really like that because Peaches Geldof had

:28:16. > :28:19.sought treatment and he said we will therefore never know why she went

:28:20. > :28:20.back on heroin. The drug, that did eventually kill her. Thank you for

:28:21. > :28:24.joining us. The pharmaceuticals giant,

:28:25. > :28:25.GlaxoSmithkline has reported The company has been hit

:28:26. > :28:29.by a fall in sales and the strong pound which reduces

:28:30. > :28:32.the impact of overseas profits. It's also embroiled

:28:33. > :28:37.in a bribery scandal in China. Our business editor Kamal Ahmed is

:28:38. > :28:48.here. Sales are down and still problems in

:28:49. > :28:51.China. It feels like GS K is fighting several battles. Absolutely

:28:52. > :28:56.and DSK is one of our biggest businesses and employs 10,000 --

:28:57. > :29:00.tens of thousands of people around the world. Good for their problems

:29:01. > :29:06.in three distinct parts. First, China, where the corruption probe

:29:07. > :29:08.continues. I've been on a call with the chief executive of Glaxo Smith

:29:09. > :29:11.Klein who says the company is still committed to that country and

:29:12. > :29:16.obviously it is a big drugs market for them. The second issue is price

:29:17. > :29:21.pressure and the government says we want to pay less for the drugs you

:29:22. > :29:25.give us. Struggling with austerity. And the third, their biggest drug,

:29:26. > :29:29.the asthma inhaler drug which is seeing a lot of competition from

:29:30. > :29:33.other drugs, a fit of the revenues they make. They say they are

:29:34. > :29:36.diversifying into heart disease and HIV treatments and vaccines, and

:29:37. > :29:38.they will get better in the rest of this year. Thank you for joining us.

:29:39. > :29:41.A zoo in Leicestershire is celebrating the birth of two

:29:42. > :29:44.Amur Leopards - one of the rarest species of big cat in the world.

:29:45. > :29:47.It's thought there are about 50 of them left in China

:29:48. > :29:52.Breeding them in captivity in zoos like Twycross in thought to

:29:53. > :29:59.be critical to the survival of the species.

:30:00. > :30:09.The weather is looking pretty good for most of us at the moment and it

:30:10. > :30:14.is turning into a decent summer. The story goes on through today, very

:30:15. > :30:17.warm with sunny spells almost across the board. It is not quite the story

:30:18. > :30:21.everywhere as often happens at this time of year. The North Sea, at

:30:22. > :30:25.least the northern part, full of mist and low cloud which is

:30:26. > :30:28.gradually melting back to the coast but it will plague some of these

:30:29. > :30:32.coasts through the afternoon. A bit more cloud developing further south

:30:33. > :30:36.across southern counties of England. We might see one or two showers

:30:37. > :30:41.popping up later in the afternoon. They have been hit and miss and most

:30:42. > :30:46.places will miss them and hang the warm sunshine through to the end of

:30:47. > :30:50.day. We are seeing highs of around mid to high 20s quite widely liked

:30:51. > :30:53.the last couple of days except the North Sea coasts where the mist and

:30:54. > :30:59.hill fog will keep things down to the low to mid teens. Across western

:31:00. > :31:02.Scotland and Northern Ireland the weather is putting on a great show

:31:03. > :31:05.at the moment ahead of the spectacular show that we will see

:31:06. > :31:08.this evening bash the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. At

:31:09. > :31:13.the moment it looks like the weather will stay fine, just a tiny chance

:31:14. > :31:17.of a shower but it would only be a passing affair anyway if it turns

:31:18. > :31:21.up. Later in the evening mist and low cloud will tend to spread

:31:22. > :31:23.westwards through the central belt of Scotland developing anywhere to

:31:24. > :31:27.the east of the Pennines down through into the Midlands. One or

:31:28. > :31:30.two showers brushing across southwestern parts possibly but most

:31:31. > :31:33.places will miss those and temperatures will be similar to

:31:34. > :31:36.recent nights so may be uncomfortable for sleeping in

:31:37. > :31:40.central and western areas. Tomorrow we do it all again, mist and low

:31:41. > :31:44.cloud melting away as the sunshine gets to work, lingering around those

:31:45. > :31:47.coasts. Greater chance of getting one of those showers in south-west

:31:48. > :31:50.England tomorrow and there could be some thunder in the mix but in

:31:51. > :31:55.between those once again those temperatures are set to soar,

:31:56. > :31:58.picking up quickly through the day, except near the north-east coasts

:31:59. > :32:02.where it will stay on the cool side. Nothing really to change the weather

:32:03. > :32:07.pattern even for Friday. Today at the next couple of days very much

:32:08. > :32:12.the same, plenty of sunshine and foremost the mist and low cloud

:32:13. > :32:18.across north-eastern parts but tending to clear. This front moving

:32:19. > :32:22.from the North Atlantic will tend to change conditions. We will get at

:32:23. > :32:25.least one fine day at the weekend. There will be some sunshine but

:32:26. > :32:28.watch out for a scattering of showers and some on the heavy side

:32:29. > :32:33.but it will turn cool and fresh as the weekend goes on. Thank you very

:32:34. > :32:34.much, Peter. That
