:00:07. > :00:08.So-called Islamic State claims responsibility for the Turkish

:00:09. > :00:16.nightclub attack that left 39 people dead.

:00:17. > :00:18.Funerals for some of the 11 Turks among the dead

:00:19. > :00:23.take place as the hunt for the gunman continues.

:00:24. > :00:28.A second girl dies following a hit and run in Oldham on New Year's Eve.

:00:29. > :00:32.New year, new rail fares - prices rise above inflation again.

:00:33. > :00:36.The Government says it's to pay for modernisation.

:00:37. > :00:39.And a union boss says Jeremy Corbyn could step down as Labour Leader

:00:40. > :01:04.if his poll ratings don't improve by the next election.

:01:05. > :01:10.The so-called Islamic State group says one of its militants was behind

:01:11. > :01:13.the New Year's Eve nightclub attack in Istanbul in which 39 people

:01:14. > :01:16.The authorities are continuing their hunt for the suspect,

:01:17. > :01:18.who escaped after opening fire on party-goers.

:01:19. > :01:21.Officials have now identified all but one of the victims

:01:22. > :01:23.and they say nearly two thirds of them were foreign nationals.

:01:24. > :01:26.Funerals for some of those killed are being held today.

:01:27. > :01:34.From Istanbul, our correspondent Selin Gerit reports.

:01:35. > :01:41.This is the gunman that has sent shock waves across the country. He

:01:42. > :01:47.is still at large, but now his motives could be clearer. The

:01:48. > :01:51.so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. In a

:01:52. > :01:56.statement, they said the shooting was carried out by a soldier in

:01:57. > :02:02.revenge for the Turkish's Governments strikes on Islamic State

:02:03. > :02:09.in Syria. Eight people have been detained, but the gunman is not

:02:10. > :02:16.thought to be among them. In the area, some more funerals were held

:02:17. > :02:25.today. 29 of the victims are Farne national -- foreign nationals. A

:02:26. > :02:35.29-year-old actor from Lebanon was among those shot. We heard

:02:36. > :02:44.something... Like a gun. Shooting. After three or four seconds, we

:02:45. > :02:52.heard something like that. We slip on the floor. And he come. The man.

:02:53. > :03:01.And when we are slipping, he is on us. Security is still tight in

:03:02. > :03:05.Istanbul. Life is far from normal yet. This place used to be one of

:03:06. > :03:11.the most popular nightclubs in Istanbul. Now it is forever to be

:03:12. > :03:18.haunted. The gunman came by the doors and shot two people before

:03:19. > :03:22.rushing in. He fired up to 180 bullets, turning the venue into the

:03:23. > :03:27.scene of a massier. Now people are -- massacre and now people are

:03:28. > :03:33.concerned about what might follow next. The hope is this might be the

:03:34. > :03:38.last time this national grieves for innocent lives lost.

:03:39. > :03:41.A second girl hit in a fatal hit-and-run collision in Oldham

:03:42. > :03:45.11-year-old Zaneta Krokova died in hospital earlier this morning

:03:46. > :03:48.Her 12-year-old cousin Helina Kotlarova died

:03:49. > :03:59.Our correspondent Peter Harris is in Oldham for us now.

:04:00. > :04:08.The police confirmed that news in last half hour about the death of

:04:09. > :04:13.second girl, Zaneta Krokova was 11. She had been crossing this road in

:04:14. > :04:21.Oldham on new year's eve with her cousin. That was Helina Kotlarova,

:04:22. > :04:26.she was 12. She died shortly after from her injuries. Her cousin has

:04:27. > :04:33.been in a critical condition in hospital since. There are tributes

:04:34. > :04:38.here in memory of the two girls. As for the investigation, initially,

:04:39. > :04:42.they were look fog for a VW Golf. Now they have said they believe the

:04:43. > :04:51.girls had been struck by a different car and that is a Peugeot 807. That

:04:52. > :04:56.was found abandoned and the police have recovered the vehicle and are

:04:57. > :05:02.asking information about the car to trace its movements. This remains an

:05:03. > :05:07.ongoing investigation and police have confirmed they're continuing to

:05:08. > :05:09.question four men and they're being held on suspicion of causing death

:05:10. > :05:15.by dangerous driving. Thank you. Campaigners are calling the latest

:05:16. > :05:18.hike in railway fares 'a kick Tickets in England, Wales,

:05:19. > :05:21.and Scotland will go up But the government's defended

:05:22. > :05:37.the hike, as our Business If you have to pay out thousands for

:05:38. > :05:42.a season ticket, your new year has not started well. With the exception

:05:43. > :05:51.of Northern Ireland, the average ticket will be 2.3% more expensive.

:05:52. > :05:55.Season tickets go up by 1.9%. Still considerably more than inflation.

:05:56. > :06:02.Even allowing for inflation, fares have risen by a quarter over the

:06:03. > :06:05.last 22 years. It is a disgrace, particularly as the Reims respect

:06:06. > :06:12.efficient. In terms of increase, that is fair. It has to be paid. If

:06:13. > :06:21.that includes paying for our wages and people earn more. The rises will

:06:22. > :06:25.sting commuters, who have had to put up with strikes and punctuality

:06:26. > :06:29.problems and insufficient seating and the impact of the weather. There

:06:30. > :06:39.is a lot happening. Billions are being spent. Nobody wants to see a

:06:40. > :06:45.fare increase, but costs rise and pay rises. There is a huge amount

:06:46. > :06:51.coming in from the passenger, about ?9 billion that year. That should

:06:52. > :06:56.buy improvements without price rises. There should be more

:06:57. > :07:05.efficiencies. The investment is great, but do the prices have to go

:07:06. > :07:08.up every year? The wider public may welcome the increases, because

:07:09. > :07:14.taxpayers are shouldering less of the cost of running the railways

:07:15. > :07:19.than they were. It means that commuters are shouldering more. And

:07:20. > :07:23.campaigners are calling for a total freeze in rail fares. Which they say

:07:24. > :07:28.has become disconnected from the service that they get.

:07:29. > :07:30.The Government's given the go-ahead to the first

:07:31. > :07:31.wave of so-called garden villages in England.

:07:32. > :07:34.The aim is to create tens of thousands of new homes,

:07:35. > :07:37.Our Correspondent Daniela Relph is in Longcross in Surrey,

:07:38. > :07:52.What are garden villages and how will the scheme work? Well, in the

:07:53. > :08:04.next couple of years this area in Surrey will be transformed into one

:08:05. > :08:08.of these 14 garden villages. A guarden garden village would have

:08:09. > :08:14.new homes and improved transport links. The locations announced today

:08:15. > :08:20.are across England from Cumbria to Derbyshire and Stratford on Avon.

:08:21. > :08:24.And down into Devon and Cornwall. The idea is they would create

:08:25. > :08:29.distinct communities. So they would not just be extensions of what

:08:30. > :08:32.already exists. And they would have access to around ?6 million of

:08:33. > :08:37.Government money over the next two years. The Labour Party and some of

:08:38. > :08:41.those who have looked at the housing problems are wary of getting too

:08:42. > :08:45.excited about this project. They say if delivered it will provide new

:08:46. > :08:55.housing, but it isn't enough. Thank you.

:08:56. > :08:57.The Islamic State group has also claimed responsibility for a suicide

:08:58. > :08:59.car-bomb attack in Iraq in which 35 people were killed.

:09:00. > :09:02.The suicide bomber struck at an outdoor fruit and veg market

:09:03. > :09:05.in the Sadr City part of Baghdad - a Shi'ite neighbourhood.

:09:06. > :09:08.It's the second major attack in Baghdad in three days.

:09:09. > :09:11.A search is underway in the Cairngorms for a couple

:09:12. > :09:13.who've gone missing with their dog in what rescue teams say

:09:14. > :09:25.The couple have now been found after going missing. Rescuers say they

:09:26. > :09:27.spent the night on the hills in freezing weather. Their condition

:09:28. > :09:30.isn't yet known. One of Jeremy Corbyn's closest

:09:31. > :09:33.allies has suggested the Labour leader could step down

:09:34. > :09:35.if the party's fortunes don't Len McCluskey said Mr Corbyn should

:09:36. > :09:39.be given time to prove himself, but that he wouldn't try to 'cling

:09:40. > :09:42.on' to power. Our Political Correspondent

:09:43. > :09:52.Chris Mason joins me. These are surprising comments from

:09:53. > :09:56.Len McCluskey. Yes he is a towering figure in the Labour movement and an

:09:57. > :10:00.early advocate of Jeremy Corbyn running to be Labour leader and

:10:01. > :10:05.staying on as leader. So yes, they are surprising. One of his biggest

:10:06. > :10:10.supporters is saying Jeremy Corbyn might have a sell by date and he

:10:11. > :10:14.told the daily mirror in the opinion polls are still off in 2019,

:10:15. > :10:19.everybody would examine that situation, including Jeremy Corbyn.

:10:20. > :10:25.He said Jeremy Corbyn was not an ego maniac that would cling to power for

:10:26. > :10:30.power's sake. There is an important context here. There is a leadership

:10:31. > :10:40.race within the Unite union and the big critic and opponent that Mr

:10:41. > :10:45.McCluskey faces, Gerard Coin said Mr McCluskey is obsessed with

:10:46. > :10:53.Westminster. Mr Coin said he is astonished at this ultimatum and

:10:54. > :10:58.said Mr McCluskey seems to be Labour's puppet master. Thank you.

:10:59. > :11:01.The UK is a major player in one of the fastest

:11:02. > :11:03.growing industries - video games.

:11:04. > :11:05.With pioneering firms in everything from virtual

:11:06. > :11:08.reality to mobile games, there are big hopes that 2017

:11:09. > :11:10.will see further expansion and jobs in the sector.

:11:11. > :11:12.Our technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones has been spending

:11:13. > :11:14.time with one of our biggest independent games firms.

:11:15. > :11:18.He was finding out what went into creating a character in a game

:11:19. > :11:25.Look straight ahead, straight at this postcard,

:11:26. > :11:31.what we are going to do is get you to do a range of emotions.

:11:32. > :11:35.In the studio in Oxford, I'm preparing for a role in

:11:36. > :11:46.So this is the first stage in making me a character in the game

:11:47. > :11:49.and now I'm going to have to pull a lot of funny faces.

:11:50. > :11:59.It's going to take many weeks but eventually I will be a

:12:00. > :12:03.character, a goodie I hope, in Sniper Elite 4.

:12:04. > :12:06.In 2017, this will be a major release from Rebellion - one of

:12:07. > :12:07.Britain's biggest independent games firms.

:12:08. > :12:10.When we first visit back in September they have a lot on their

:12:11. > :12:13.plate, including crucially a game for the Sony VR launch.

:12:14. > :12:15.A big investment with a lot hanging on it.

:12:16. > :12:17.When they embarked on this project back

:12:18. > :12:20.18 months ago, there was a

:12:21. > :12:23.great deal more scepticism about how successful VR was likely to be.

:12:24. > :12:32.So it was a punt - or I should say a smart gamble.

:12:33. > :12:35.These guys and girls here play games professionally from

:12:36. > :12:38.It is a quarter of a century since Jason Kingsley

:12:39. > :12:43.When my brother and I started Rebellion, we were always being

:12:44. > :12:51.So we are grown adults with a quite a big corporation behind us

:12:52. > :12:55.and we make entertainment that sells across the world.

:12:56. > :12:58.I mean, China, consumers in China buy our games,

:12:59. > :13:00.consumers in Brazil, all these emerging markets

:13:01. > :13:04.Roughly 200 people work here from across Europe.

:13:05. > :13:13.I can't help noticing a lot of men, very few women.

:13:14. > :13:16.Is it getting any easier for women to get into the games industry?

:13:17. > :13:21.Me growing up, I would not have even dreamt about

:13:22. > :13:22.getting into games, but

:13:23. > :13:25.for the last ten years it seems like the doors have been more open.

:13:26. > :13:32.Two months later, we returned to Rebellion to

:13:33. > :13:34.find out what they have done with my face.

:13:35. > :13:40.We will take this high resolution model and

:13:41. > :13:44.we will put it into the game and we will see what you look like in that.

:13:45. > :13:53.Yes, you are currently the hero of the Sniper Elite series.

:13:54. > :13:59.In in the world of video games, anything is possible!

:14:00. > :14:03.The next news on BBC1 is at 6.30 this evening.

:14:04. > :14:05.Now it's time for the news where you are.
