:00:06. > :00:14.The battle for Libya: Rebel fighters storm into Tripoli and say

:00:14. > :00:24.the capital is almost theirs. After 42 years of Gaddafi rule, rebel

:00:24. > :00:24.

:00:24. > :00:32.fighters say they now control most of the city. He played his last

:00:32. > :00:35.card - his last game. Even his Army, they lose control. Celebrations

:00:35. > :00:43.across Libya as people mark the beginning of the end of decades of

:00:43. > :00:49.dictatorship. But the battle's not over yet. We saw a 20 millimetre

:00:49. > :00:56.empty aircraft can earn fired directly into the front of our

:00:56. > :00:58.convoy. -- 20 millimetre anti- aircraft cannon. We report from the

:00:58. > :01:01.front line as the fighting continues. Tonight, Colonel

:01:01. > :01:04.Gaddafi's whereabouts are unknown. He says he is in Tripoli and will

:01:04. > :01:13.remain there until the end. His sons have been captured though, one,

:01:13. > :01:18.during a live TV interview. I am being attacked right now. This is

:01:18. > :01:28.gunfire inside my house. They up inside my house. International

:01:28. > :01:32.reaction has been swift. His regime is falling apart and is in full

:01:32. > :01:42.retreat. He must stop fighting without conditions and showed he

:01:42. > :01:44.has given up any claim to control Libya. Also on tonight's programme:

:01:45. > :01:47.The sexual assault case against the former IMF chief, Dominique

:01:48. > :01:51.Strauss-Kahn, could be on the verge of collapse tonight. And a stunning

:01:51. > :02:01.win for England against India at the Oval to complete a 4-0 series

:02:01. > :02:01.

:02:01. > :02:08.victory. Later, the price of oil falls as the battle for Tripoli

:02:08. > :02:18.continues. We will find out how the volatile global markets have

:02:18. > :02:26.

:02:26. > :02:29.Good evening. Welcome to the BBC News at Six. Libyan rebel leaders

:02:29. > :02:34.say they now control about 95% of the capital, Tripoli. But fighting

:02:34. > :02:36.is still going on there tonight. Forces loyal to Colonel Gaddafi are

:02:36. > :02:40.continuing to resist, with tanks defending the port and other

:02:40. > :02:43.pockets of the city in the battle for Tripoli. Last night, there was

:02:43. > :02:46.pressure on the capital from all sides as rebels advanced towards

:02:46. > :02:50.the centre. Opposition forces reached Green Square, which they

:02:50. > :02:53.have renamed Martyr's Square, in the heart of the city last night.

:02:53. > :02:57.Tonight, pro-Gaddafi tanks are said to be protecting the Libyan

:02:57. > :03:02.leader's main compound, Bab al- Aziziya. And there is fighting

:03:02. > :03:12.around the Rixos Hotel, where foreign journalists are staying.

:03:12. > :03:17.Our correspondent, who is in that hotel, has this report. On the

:03:17. > :03:22.streets of Tripoli, a revolution. They chanted their new Libyan

:03:22. > :03:29.national anthem and flew the flag of what they believe is the new,

:03:29. > :03:34.free Libya. Gaddafi, your time is up, they cried. The rebels sped

:03:34. > :03:39.into the capital overnight with astonishing speed. Moving into

:03:39. > :03:44.Green Square, where days ago, supporters of Colonel Gaddafi out

:03:44. > :03:48.the city was safe. They tore down posters and flags. Three miles to

:03:48. > :03:54.the south, in a luxury hotel, we watched as a spokesman of Colonel

:03:54. > :03:58.Gaddafi held what may turn out to be his last press conference.

:03:58. > :04:05.Tripoli is well-protected and we have thousands upon thousands of

:04:05. > :04:10.professional soldiers who are ready to defend this city. Even as he was

:04:10. > :04:17.speaking, the rebels were celebrating. Trampling the leader

:04:17. > :04:22.they have come to despise. Today, rebel forces continued to stream

:04:22. > :04:27.into Tripoli, believing they were on the verge of a significant

:04:27. > :04:32.victory. This is a city at checkpoints, of men protecting

:04:32. > :04:37.neighbourhoods, wary of what the forces of Colonel Gaddafi may do

:04:37. > :04:43.next. In areas, there has been fierce fighting. Battles have raged

:04:43. > :04:47.around the compound of Colonel Gaddafi. Any campaign -- gunfire

:04:48. > :04:54.can be heard and explosions. The Gaddafi family is under pressure

:04:54. > :05:01.like never before. Another son, Saif Al-Islam, has been arrested.

:05:01. > :05:11.He faces war crimes charges at the International Court. Another son,

:05:11. > :05:12.

:05:12. > :05:16.Mohammed, was live on air when rebels seized him.

:05:16. > :05:26.TRANSLATION: I am being attacked right now. This is gunfire inside

:05:26. > :05:33.

:05:33. > :05:42.What a Colonel Gaddafi himself? He made the short radio address last

:05:42. > :05:48.night calling on supporters to rise up. Is he in Tripoli? What is he

:05:48. > :05:52.planning? This city is not under full opposition control. Here in

:05:52. > :05:57.the hotel, where foreign journalists have stayed since the

:05:57. > :06:01.conflict began, Gaddafi supporters are in charge inside and out on the

:06:01. > :06:08.streets. It is hard to determine how much of the city they hold but

:06:08. > :06:14.the battle for Tripoli is not yet over. NATO has continued airstrikes.

:06:14. > :06:21.Without air support, the rebels would not be in a strong position

:06:21. > :06:25.they find themselves in now. Libyan state television has now fallen off

:06:25. > :06:32.air. Opposition supporters are confident enough to be freely

:06:32. > :06:42.talking about the new Libya. They believe Colonel Gaddafi is finished.

:06:42. > :06:44.

:06:44. > :06:50.He has played his last card - his last game. Even his Army, they lose

:06:50. > :06:54.control. The Army of Gaddafi, they fight without any order, without

:06:54. > :07:01.anything. If he is, will his supporters laid down their guns or

:07:01. > :07:06.fight until the last? The rebel advance been to Tripoli has been

:07:06. > :07:12.swift and co-ordinated, taking town after town. They have been pushing

:07:12. > :07:18.east from the town of Zawiyah, just 30 minutes' drive from the capital.

:07:18. > :07:22.In the east, they are moving in from Zlitan. Another column of

:07:22. > :07:27.fighters has made rapid progress from the south. In a moment we were

:07:28. > :07:31.here from our correspondent who is with rebels in the east. First this

:07:31. > :07:36.report from the West. Our correspondent is with a convoy of

:07:36. > :07:42.rebels that managed to enter central Tripoli. Generally this

:07:42. > :07:48.morning, it has been very quiet. The sound of shooting in the

:07:48. > :07:53.background. Here is a group of young men on the corner. This is

:07:53. > :07:59.what we are seeing every time we go past - groups of the ament

:07:59. > :08:09.celebrating. So far no signs of fighting in the city. It looks very

:08:09. > :08:10.

:08:10. > :08:17.quiet. We have just come in to the centre of Tripoli ahead of us. We

:08:17. > :08:24.have come up against a road block. They say there is biting up ahead.

:08:24. > :08:34.Their RFU Gaddafi soldiers up ahead. They are bringing up rebel fighters.

:08:34. > :08:35.

:08:35. > :08:43.Where is Gaddafi? Nobody knows. Maybe he is down there. Gaddafi

:08:43. > :08:50.mouse. Maybe here. He is hiding somewhere? He can go there because

:08:50. > :08:54.he is scared. He is scared so much. Although it appears very quiet on

:08:54. > :08:58.the surface in Tripoli this morning, it is clearly extremely tense and

:08:58. > :09:02.there are parts of the city that are not under the control of the

:09:02. > :09:06.rebels and there is still resistance going on here. Then we

:09:06. > :09:13.came across a convoy heading into the city. Little did the young

:09:13. > :09:19.fighters know what lay in store ahead. We decided to follow them as

:09:19. > :09:25.they headed along the seafront towards the city centre. Up ahead,

:09:25. > :09:29.they are still signs of fighting. Then we ran straight into an ambush.

:09:29. > :09:39.We saw a 20 millimetre anti- aircraft cannon firing directly

:09:39. > :10:00.

:10:00. > :10:08.It is clear that despite the overnight celebrations this is

:10:09. > :10:14.still a city that is far from safe also kill. -- or secure off. In the

:10:14. > :10:19.east the fighters are backing their way towards Tripoli. From Zlitan,

:10:19. > :10:27.they have been pinned down by pro- Gaddafi fighters from the valley

:10:27. > :10:33.south of the town. We set out on the road to Tripoli. It was eerily

:10:33. > :10:39.quiet. Many here believe victory is fast approaching. There is no

:10:39. > :10:49.headlong rush to the capital. Along the way, some already celebrating

:10:49. > :10:49.

:10:49. > :10:55.and dreaming of revenge. Gaddafi out. Gaddafi is not going to come

:10:55. > :11:00.to live here anymore. If he is still in Libya, he will be dead. We

:11:00. > :11:06.are going to kill him. The revolution will end with killing

:11:06. > :11:11.Gaddafi and his son. To find Colonel Gaddafi, they have to get

:11:11. > :11:16.to Tripoli and beyond the town of Zlitan, the regime's troops are

:11:16. > :11:22.still blocking the way. On the Eastern Front, the battles are not

:11:22. > :11:26.over. The fighting is continuing here. Rebel cars are streaming

:11:26. > :11:31.forward towards the front line. They said there is a fierce battle

:11:31. > :11:34.going on there. The rebels Atlanta push up this road towards Tripoli

:11:34. > :11:43.but they are meeting stiff resistance from the troops of

:11:43. > :11:52.Colonel Gaddafi. The troops stayed to fight. The rebels are going

:11:52. > :11:57.forward, back into battle. Some are still paying the price for freedom.

:11:57. > :12:05.Another fighter died today from wounds sustained at the weekend.

:12:05. > :12:12.His brother had just got the news. He always said the time of freedom

:12:12. > :12:18.will come, he told us. He wanted to die in this way. Now I will have

:12:18. > :12:24.the honour of continuing what he started. But how long will it take

:12:24. > :12:33.to finish it? That remains unclear. Fighters claimed optimistically not

:12:33. > :12:38.more than a day or two. As we said earlier, Matthew price is at a

:12:38. > :12:45.hotel in Tripoli which has come under fire already today. What is

:12:45. > :12:50.happening now? I am here with about 30 other members of their

:12:50. > :12:56.international media. We are in one of the areas which is still

:12:56. > :13:03.controlled by pro-Gaddafi forces. The street outside here and in the

:13:03. > :13:11.immediate area certainly has Gaddafi Army troops out there. We

:13:11. > :13:14.believe this is one of two areas of the city where they still have

:13:14. > :13:19.control. It is clear from our vantage point that the opposition

:13:19. > :13:23.has not taken control of the entire city. We have been hearing fighting

:13:23. > :13:27.all day, the sound of heavy gunfire and explosions in the distance.

:13:27. > :13:32.Just a short while ago, one of my colleagues from the Arabic media

:13:32. > :13:37.were standing outside the front of the hotel when he saw a large

:13:37. > :13:42.amount of tracts of what he said work well equipped soldiers heading

:13:42. > :13:48.north. They were heading north possibly towards the Green Square

:13:48. > :13:55.area of Tripoli. Possibly they would head over to the compound of

:13:55. > :13:59.Colonel Gaddafi. It looks as though large numbers of Colonel Gaddafi's

:13:59. > :14:05.troops are moving through the city at the moment. The Prime Minister

:14:05. > :14:09.has said that the regime of Colonel Gaddafi is in full retreat. He has

:14:09. > :14:14.seemingly lost control in Libya and the next few days and weeks will be

:14:14. > :14:24.critical in shaping the country. We report on the international

:14:24. > :14:25.

:14:25. > :14:31.As rebels swept into Tripoli, they had much to celebrate. It was

:14:31. > :14:34.dangerous and difficult and needed no to's air campaign. The future

:14:34. > :14:39.for Libya is still uncertain. David Cameron has not hidden these future

:14:39. > :14:46.challenges. There will undoubtedly be difficult days ahead. No

:14:46. > :14:48.transition is ever snood or easy. But today the Arab Spring is one

:14:49. > :14:53.step further away from oppression and dictatorship and one step

:14:53. > :14:58.closer to freedom and democracy. The Libyan people are closer to

:14:58. > :15:03.their dream of a better future, free from the terror of Gaddafi.

:15:03. > :15:07.can that dream of a better future be made real? The first days will

:15:07. > :15:14.be crucial. Can rebels be persuaded not to take revenge on Gaddafi

:15:14. > :15:21.loyalists? I call on all Libyans to exercise self-restraint, says the

:15:21. > :15:27.head of the rebel council, Mahmoud Jibril, and to respect the memory

:15:27. > :15:31.and lives of others. It is the memory of the Iraq following the

:15:31. > :15:36.toppling of Saddam Hussein that is the nightmare. Looting, and descend

:15:37. > :15:41.into sectarian bombing and killing. Libya is not Iraq, and the

:15:41. > :15:45.opposition can point to cities they already hold where law and order

:15:45. > :15:55.have not broken down. But in Benghazi, the rebels failed to

:15:55. > :15:58.

:15:58. > :16:03.prevent the murder offer Abdul Eunice. Transforming dictatorship

:16:03. > :16:07.into democracy is the challenge. A new draft constitution has been

:16:07. > :16:10.drawn up, promising a democratic state based on law rather than

:16:10. > :16:14.tribal or personal loyalty and there are plenty of guarantees of

:16:14. > :16:19.freedom, including freedom of opinion, freedom of demonstration

:16:19. > :16:25.and freedom of mass media. For now these are just words, but the

:16:25. > :16:29.opposition NTC says it is committed to deliver. The NTC has it within

:16:29. > :16:33.its power to show the West, including showing members of

:16:33. > :16:38.ambivalent tribes, that it is genuinely going to rule in line

:16:38. > :16:41.with its professed liberal values. If it does that early on and

:16:41. > :16:46.persuades people, I think they have excellent chances of avoiding what

:16:46. > :16:49.occurred in Iraq. As the opposition celebrate in their original

:16:49. > :16:55.stronghold of Benghazi, his leadership will now come under

:16:55. > :16:59.intense scrutiny. Prospects are far better than in Iraq. After all, the

:16:59. > :17:05.world including the Arab world was largely united against Gaddafi. But

:17:05. > :17:08.still the risks remain. Let's speak to our deputy political

:17:08. > :17:12.editor James Landale from Downing Street. We saw David Cameron

:17:12. > :17:17.speaking earlier. A mood of cautious optimism from politicians,

:17:17. > :17:24.it is fair to say. That is right. The public word from David Cameron

:17:24. > :17:28.and other ministers has been no complacency. He has been talking

:17:28. > :17:32.about the practical details of the next few days. What to do if

:17:32. > :17:40.Gaddafi turns up, what to do if they can and freeze Libyan assets

:17:40. > :17:42.and so on. -- unfreeze. It is all about making sure the international

:17:42. > :17:47.community worked as one over the next few days. That caution has

:17:47. > :17:50.been met by satisfaction and optimism. Satisfaction, following

:17:50. > :17:54.the criticism that this could not be done and aerial bombardment

:17:55. > :17:59.would not work. They have been proved wrong. And also optimism

:17:59. > :18:04.that if the diplomacy works and the NTC do as they had promised, it is

:18:04. > :18:09.possible that this will end the right way. And this administration

:18:09. > :18:12.will claim some credit for that. Thank you.

:18:12. > :18:16.More on the situation only the end later on in the programme. You can

:18:16. > :18:20.find out more about what is happening in the country on a

:18:20. > :18:29.special live page online. It brings together all the latest from across

:18:29. > :18:33.Libya. Our top stories tonight: The battle

:18:33. > :18:37.for the Libyan capital Tripoli is still under way. Rebels say they

:18:37. > :18:42.control most of the city. The whereabouts of Colonel Gaddafi

:18:42. > :18:46.remains unclear. What a way to go, number one in the

:18:46. > :18:49.world officially now. England are on top of the world after a

:18:49. > :18:52.stunning victory over India at the Oval.

:18:52. > :18:56.Later on the News Channel, the price of oil falls as the battle

:18:56. > :19:00.for Tripoli continues. Hopes are that oil production will soon come

:19:00. > :19:10.on stream. We will find out how the volatile global markets have

:19:10. > :19:12.

:19:12. > :19:15.In New York there are growing signs that the sexual assault case

:19:15. > :19:19.against the former head of the International Monetary Fund,

:19:19. > :19:23.Dominique Strauss-Kahn, will be dropped. He resigned from the IMF

:19:23. > :19:26.following his arrest. The hotel made that brought the charges is

:19:26. > :19:33.due to appear before prosecutors later today. Our correspondent

:19:33. > :19:36.joins us from New York. What is expected to happen tonight?

:19:36. > :19:41.criminal case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn appears to be close to

:19:41. > :19:45.collapse. US media are citing prosecution sources as saying that

:19:45. > :19:53.the district attorney will ask the judge to dismiss the case. And

:19:53. > :19:57.later today, the made that accuses Mr Strauss-Kahn of attempting to

:19:58. > :20:02.sexually assault hair, she will meet her lawyers and is expected to

:20:02. > :20:05.be told that the charges will be dropped. If that happens, it will

:20:05. > :20:08.be a remarkable twist in a high- profile case and it will happen

:20:08. > :20:12.because of questions that have arisen about the credibility of the

:20:12. > :20:15.chambermaid. She has admitted to lying on an asylum claim and that

:20:15. > :20:18.she changed her account of her movements immediately after the

:20:18. > :20:23.attack. The bottom line is that Mr Strauss-Kahn could be free as early

:20:23. > :20:29.as tomorrow. Thank you.

:20:29. > :20:36.The Royal Air Force will receive 40 new Chinook helicopters in a 1

:20:36. > :20:40.billion contract. -- 14 new helicopters. This will bring the

:20:40. > :20:45.total fleet to 60. Chinooks have played a vital role in Afghanistan

:20:45. > :20:50.but many of the new helicopters will not enter service until 2015

:20:50. > :20:57.when British from -- troops will have left.

:20:57. > :21:01.Councils could be given the power to charge utility companies for

:21:01. > :21:05.digging up the roads during peak times. This would reduce the costs

:21:05. > :21:08.to the economy of congestion and would encourage firms to do

:21:08. > :21:12.roadworks during quieter periods and overnight.

:21:12. > :21:16.A fire has destroyed Richard Branson's home on the Caribbean

:21:16. > :21:19.island of Necker. He said that everybody in the house including

:21:19. > :21:24.Kate Winslet and her children, guests there, got out without

:21:24. > :21:28.injury. It is thought a lightning strike started the blaze.

:21:28. > :21:35.In cricket, England have completed a series victory over India after

:21:35. > :21:43.winning the 4th and final Test at the Oval. Graeme Swann took 6th

:21:43. > :21:48.wickets for England, and Sachin Tendulkar fell just short of

:21:48. > :21:52.getting his hundredth hundred. The find a champagne no event of a

:21:52. > :21:56.vintage summer but for English cricket. -- the final champagne

:21:56. > :21:59.moment. But this could have been India's moment to remember. All

:21:59. > :22:05.summer, Sachin Tendulkar has stood on the brink of a remarkable

:22:05. > :22:10.achievement, is one hundredths International 100. He cruised

:22:10. > :22:17.through the morning and frustrated England's bowlers. When he emerged

:22:17. > :22:22.after lunch, the crowd sensed history but instead they got this.

:22:22. > :22:29.Sachin Tendulkar was agonisingly gone for 91. It was almost too

:22:29. > :22:33.cruel to watch. With their talisman gone, the rest soon followed. The

:22:33. > :22:39.sort of collapse that has blighted India's summer, as Graeme Swann

:22:39. > :22:44.turned things round. Six wickets for him, and for England quite a

:22:44. > :22:47.day. A 4-0 whitewash against the Indian side that was previously the

:22:47. > :22:57.best in the world. For English cricket and its fans, these are

:22:57. > :23:02.heady times. A series that promised to be tied has proved anything but.

:23:02. > :23:07.World number ones and a clean sweep. Not a bad summer.

:23:07. > :23:11.Now we return to our main story and the battle for Tripoli. Rebels say

:23:11. > :23:15.they have control of the city and although Gaddafi says he will

:23:15. > :23:19.remain in the City and fight to the end, his regime appears to be all

:23:19. > :23:25.but over after four decades, decades in which he inspired fear

:23:25. > :23:30.at home and funded terrorism abroad. Is there something in the mindset

:23:30. > :23:34.of dictators that makes them blind to their own impending downfall?

:23:34. > :23:40.This bizarre moment came only in February, as rebel forces were

:23:40. > :23:45.seizing half his country. He seems to imagine himself invincible.

:23:45. > :23:51.love me, all my people with me. They love me all. They would die to

:23:51. > :23:57.protect me, my people. Gaddafi seized power in a coup d'etat in

:23:57. > :24:01.1969. He was 27. Soon his regime was marred by brutal repression at

:24:01. > :24:06.home and violence abroad. Libya became isolated and feared. He

:24:06. > :24:11.backed armed groups around the world. He helped to arm the IRA. In

:24:11. > :24:14.1984, someone opened fire from inside the Libyan embassy in London.

:24:14. > :24:20.A police woman was killed, Yvonne Fletcher, and nobody was ever

:24:20. > :24:27.brought to justice. Two years later, the United States blamed Libya for

:24:27. > :24:34.a bomb attack on a Berlin nightclub that was full of US servicemen. The

:24:34. > :24:43.Americans bombed his compound but he survived. He claimed to be a

:24:43. > :24:47.heroic defender of the week against the strong. 270 died when a Pan Am

:24:47. > :24:52.jet en route to New York was bombed over Lockerbie. The investigation

:24:52. > :24:55.led to two Libyan agents. Gaddafi refused to hand them over. In 1999

:24:55. > :25:01.he began a process that would change his relationship with the

:25:01. > :25:04.outside world. 30 surrendered the Lockerbie suspects for trial. Then

:25:04. > :25:09.in 2003, he announced he was dismantling his weapons of mass

:25:10. > :25:13.destruction to become an ally in the war on terror. Western leaders

:25:13. > :25:17.embraced him. The FA country is prepared to say they want to put

:25:17. > :25:25.the past behind them, give up chemical and nuclear weapons

:25:25. > :25:29.capability, sees their ties with terrorist groups, -- cut their ties

:25:30. > :25:33.with terrorist groups, we should be able to open up to that. This meant

:25:33. > :25:37.we turned a blind eye to his continuing brutality at home, where

:25:37. > :25:42.his family were feared and reviled. A popular uprising began in

:25:42. > :25:51.February and NATO intervened in March. Still he claimed to have an

:25:51. > :25:56.impregnable hold on power. Tonight his personal faith remains

:25:56. > :26:03.undecided. But his 42 year regime, his ability to rein through terror

:26:03. > :26:06.is surely now over. Let's speak to our diplomatic

:26:06. > :26:11.correspondent. We are hearing from our correspondent in Tripoli

:26:11. > :26:15.earlier. He was saying that Gaddafi's forces are fighting back.

:26:15. > :26:19.Is it possible to say what is going on in the City and who had overall

:26:20. > :26:23.control? It is not possible to be certain about that. The rebels have

:26:23. > :26:27.achieved an enormous amount. They swept into the city, Green Square,

:26:27. > :26:31.the very heartland of the Gaddafi regime, apparently without

:26:31. > :26:36.opposition. But we have seen quite a lot of fight back from Gaddafi's

:26:36. > :26:39.forces and his loyalists since then. We have got reports from Matthew

:26:39. > :26:43.Price that they have considerable armour. And another correspondent

:26:43. > :26:48.got caught up in a Gaddafi ambush. It is a very dangerous time,

:26:48. > :26:51.frankly, when the rebels and the outside world are very keen to

:26:51. > :26:55.establish immediate control and bring stability to Tripoli. We are

:26:55. > :27:00.not there yet. There are wild rumours tonight that Gaddafi is in

:27:00. > :27:04.hospital tonight. There are also reports that one of his sons may

:27:05. > :27:13.have tried to escape in women's clothing, but we know that Saif Al-

:27:13. > :27:17.Islam was actually captured. This Now the weather. A nice end to the

:27:17. > :27:20.day as far as most of the country is concerned, but that changes

:27:20. > :27:24.overnight as it becomes increasingly wet across the South

:27:24. > :27:29.especially. In Northern Ireland it will be different, dry overnight

:27:29. > :27:32.with varying amounts of cloud. But overnight it becomes wetter and

:27:32. > :27:42.what across the South and it is East Anglia where there will be

:27:42. > :27:45.some thundery downpours developing. Not everybody will see the worst of

:27:45. > :27:50.the conditions, but there will be a lot of rain falling in a short

:27:50. > :27:54.space of time and the risk of some minor flooding. Persistent rain

:27:54. > :27:59.setting into the Midlands, but they try a start. Cool in northern

:27:59. > :28:04.England and some sunshine around. Bright in Scotland. Some cloud but

:28:04. > :28:07.the West will see some sunny breaks first thing. Dry in Northern

:28:07. > :28:12.Ireland with some sunshine before showers develop through the day. A

:28:12. > :28:17.bright start in the North West of Wales but generally a lot of cloud.

:28:17. > :28:23.Damp in the South East. The same story in Devon, but in Cornwall you

:28:23. > :28:27.should start the day dry. Through the day, the rain will clear up in

:28:27. > :28:33.the South. The thunderstorms will depart. The rain set in and will be

:28:33. > :28:36.with us for much of the day in the South East. Further North, largely

:28:36. > :28:40.dry with just a couple of showers and in the brightness temperatures

:28:40. > :28:43.will get into the high teens. All change through Tuesday night and

:28:43. > :28:49.into Wednesday. The wet weather clears the way towards the East and

:28:49. > :28:53.then more of comes into the West, pushing into Northern Ireland on

:28:53. > :28:57.Wednesday. Eastern areas will be drier and brighter with just a

:28:57. > :29:04.couple of showers. We have our first hurricane on this scene in

:29:04. > :29:09.the Atlantic and more details are available online.

:29:09. > :29:13.The battle for the Libyan capital, Tripoli, is still under way. Rebels
