:00:12. > :00:22.What the years of planning and waiting are nearly all are - one

:00:22. > :00:26.day to go before London 2012 begins. -- the years of planning.

:00:26. > :00:30.A taste of what we can expect from the opening ceremony. David Cameron

:00:30. > :00:34.says that the Olympics will show the world what we can achieve.

:00:34. > :00:39.will see beyond doubt that Britain can deliver. We have delivered this

:00:39. > :00:44.incredible Olympic Park on time, on budget and, as you can see, in real

:00:44. > :00:46.style. A America's presidential hopeful

:00:46. > :00:53.seems to question that. We will have the latest.

:00:53. > :00:59.Also tonight call on Anuj Bidve came here to study and ended up

:00:59. > :01:06.being shortbread. Now his killer is found guilty of murder. Stapleton,

:01:06. > :01:11.in the blink of an eye and the time it took ability to lead a gun, he

:01:11. > :01:17.turned the Anuj Bidve's hopes and dreams into a nightmare. If British

:01:17. > :01:20.Gas announces a big jump in profits - up by 23%.

:01:20. > :01:24.Didn't he do well? Sir Bruce Forsyth carries the Olympic flame

:01:24. > :01:28.as it makes its way across central London.

:01:28. > :01:32.And this is where the flame will end up in about an hour from now.

:01:32. > :01:42.It will be carried into Hyde Park in front of this huge crowd. They

:01:42. > :01:45.

:01:45. > :01:55.have been waiting all afternoon to see it.

:01:55. > :02:11.

:02:11. > :02:15.wept good evening. Up popped the Prime Minister said the next few

:02:15. > :02:19.weeks will show the world what Britain can deliver. David Cameron

:02:19. > :02:23.said that the opening ceremony will be spine-tingling. It has emerged

:02:23. > :02:28.today that it is still not sold out. Remaining tickets are likely to go

:02:28. > :02:32.to soldiers and children. Our correspondent is behind me in the

:02:32. > :02:34.Olympic Park. Good evening. I you ago it would

:02:34. > :02:40.have been unthinkable that tomorrow's ceremony would not sell-

:02:40. > :02:50.out, but that is the situation we have this evening. It appears that

:02:50. > :02:55.the top-price tickets have proved to be too expensive for four.

:02:55. > :02:59.London 2012 promises they will be giving away tickets to troops and

:02:59. > :03:03.two children. Do not be fooled into thinking that because those seats

:03:03. > :03:07.have not been sold that there is a lack of enthusiasm here. In fact,

:03:07. > :03:11.probably quite the reverse. There is a real excitement in the Olympic

:03:11. > :03:15.Park and around London. I think it is fair to say that it is the same

:03:15. > :03:25.around most of the UK. The Queen will be here tomorrow to declare

:03:25. > :03:28.

:03:28. > :03:33.the Games opened. Today, the Prime Minister put an extra 40 million

:03:33. > :03:43.into the fund for the Games came to hear -- came here to see how it is

:03:43. > :04:15.

:04:15. > :04:19.I hope that what we will see is all the things that we love about

:04:19. > :04:25.Britain's past, all the things they like about our history, history,

:04:25. > :04:28.institutions, culture or. I also hope that they will see a very open

:04:28. > :04:33.country and one that has an enormous amount to offer for the

:04:33. > :04:37.future. So far they have seen some very basic mistakes. This is a

:04:37. > :04:41.programme for tonight's football match. Joe Allen is listed as

:04:41. > :04:46.English. The problem is that he is actually Welsh.

:04:46. > :04:51.More embarrassment and confusion last night when a North Korea's

:04:51. > :04:57.women footballers walked on to the park to see the flag of South Korea

:04:57. > :05:02.being shown alongside the players. Hardly a good start for London 2012.

:05:02. > :05:11.Clearly, we apologised. We have two-and-a-half weeks of

:05:11. > :05:14.extraordinary sport to look forward Usain Bolt did not look like an

:05:14. > :05:23.athlete under pressure as he strolled into the Olympic canteen.

:05:23. > :05:29.But then, he never does. Team GB's best-known ambassadors have been it

:05:29. > :05:34.meeting some of the youngest sportspeople in the country. Kate's

:05:34. > :05:43.sport of choice at school was hockey. Tomorrow night the royal

:05:43. > :05:46.couple will be at the opening ceremony.

:05:46. > :05:51.For the Republican mitt Romney, who is visiting London, has sparked an

:05:51. > :05:56.Olympic controversy. He is credited with rescuing the 2002 Winter Games

:05:56. > :06:01.in Salt Lake City. Now he has appeared to question London's

:06:01. > :06:05.readiness to a halt a successful Olympics. A it is hard to know how

:06:05. > :06:09.well it will turnout. There are few things that were disconcerting -

:06:09. > :06:16.the story about the private security firm not having enough

:06:16. > :06:21.people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials.

:06:21. > :06:27.One our North America editor is travelling with Mr Romney. If he is

:06:27. > :06:32.here to make friends, he has a funny way of showing it.

:06:32. > :06:36.Exactly. He is here raising money for his campaign. Most of the trip

:06:36. > :06:43.is aimed at showing people in America up beaming pictures of him

:06:43. > :06:47.meeting senior members of the British government. For his views

:06:47. > :06:51.on world affairs are being taken very seriously at the highest level.

:06:51. > :07:01.Instead, when he emerged from Downing Street, all the American

:07:01. > :07:02.

:07:02. > :07:09.journalists wanted to know was whether he had offended his hosts.

:07:09. > :07:14.For the David Cameron sounded perhaps a bit cross. Wept Mitt

:07:14. > :07:18.Romney said it was difficult to do without making mistakes and that

:07:18. > :07:21.any mistakes would be overshadowed by their heroism of the athletes.

:07:22. > :07:27.He has probably got away with it but the message she wanted to get

:07:27. > :07:32.out from the strip has been obscured. It is not what he wanted

:07:32. > :07:37.her to do when starting off his leg of his foreign tour.

:07:37. > :07:43.The now the other news. Amman who refer to himself in court

:07:43. > :07:50.as a cycle has been found guilty of murdering the Indian student Anuj

:07:50. > :07:58.Bidve. The court heard how a Stapleton walked up to the student

:07:59. > :08:03.on Boxing Day and shot him at point-blank range. For her it was

:08:03. > :08:11.on this street that Anuj Bidve was walking with his friends. -- it was

:08:11. > :08:17.on this street. Kiaran Stapleton walked over, repeatedly asked for

:08:17. > :08:22.the time and then without warning shot Anuj Bidve. As he did so, his

:08:22. > :08:27.parents said they took away hip -- he took away their son's hopes and

:08:27. > :08:35.dreams. And Anuj Bidve - an Indian student full of hope and ambition.

:08:35. > :08:45.But all that was taken when he was killed by a stranger. Kiaran

:08:45. > :08:46.

:08:46. > :08:50.Stapleton called himself cycle in court. -- a psychopath.

:08:50. > :08:59.For Stapleton, in the blink of an eye and the time it took ability to

:08:59. > :09:06.lead a gun, he was holding Anuj Bidve for's hopes and dreams and

:09:06. > :09:14.turning them into a nightmare. A Anuj Bidve's friends desperately

:09:14. > :09:24.asked passing motorists for help. Apt Sheetal Patel held his hand.

:09:24. > :09:29.was very calm, but what can you do? At No point did I think he was

:09:29. > :09:32.going to die. As for Kiaran Stapleton, this CCTV

:09:32. > :09:37.shows in checking into a hotel just yards from where he killed Anuj

:09:37. > :09:42.Bidve. Here, he looked out the window and watched the police. He

:09:42. > :09:52.then had a teardrop tattooed on his cheek. A detective said this was

:09:52. > :10:01.

:10:01. > :10:04.For would be one war for for at no point as he expressed remorse for

:10:04. > :10:10.what he has done. He has never taken full responsibility for what

:10:10. > :10:16.he has done. He has shown himself in its true light - a callous

:10:16. > :10:22.individual with no feeling. The here in India, his friends

:10:22. > :10:28.cannot understand why anyone would hurt Anuj Bidve. What would he was

:10:28. > :10:34.very friendly and he would never have a grudge against you. He was a

:10:34. > :10:39.unique person. Tonight, Anuj Bidve's mother and father laid

:10:39. > :10:45.flowers at the place where he died. They were for the son who they said

:10:45. > :10:55.meant everything to them. Yes, a difficult journey for Anuj

:10:55. > :10:58.Bidve's mother and father. They returned to India tomorrow. The

:10:58. > :11:01.they hoped to return to court for one last time and see Kiaran

:11:01. > :11:05.Stapleton sentence for murder. Honda is cutting production in

:11:05. > :11:10.Wiltshire because of a drop in demand across the eurozone. A third

:11:10. > :11:14.of the staff will work a four-day week from September. Honda say they

:11:14. > :11:20.will not lose out because they are employed on flexible contracts that

:11:20. > :11:27.guarantee they will be paid for a 37-hour week.

:11:27. > :11:37.The day in to the wife of a Chinese politician has been killed -- has

:11:37. > :11:39.

:11:39. > :11:46.been charged with the murder of be wiped nearly a wood. For Home

:11:46. > :11:49.Office figures show that there were just over 134,000 officers at the

:11:49. > :11:52.end of March. That is 5,000 fewer officers than

:11:53. > :11:58.the previous year. Centrica, which owns British Gas,

:11:58. > :12:03.has announced a 22% jump in profits from its energy supplies to

:12:03. > :12:07.households across the country. It came after the firm blamed rising

:12:07. > :12:12.wholesale prices for price increases last year. It has left

:12:12. > :12:16.many customers unhappy. It is not that long ago that we had

:12:16. > :12:23.this. In the wet and cold early summer, some people put their

:12:23. > :12:28.heating back on, boosting British Gas' sales. That is how their

:12:28. > :12:37.profits increased by 23%. It was held in large part by last year's

:12:37. > :12:42.hike in prices to 345 million over six months.

:12:42. > :12:48.We want them to give consumers a break and give us reassurances that

:12:48. > :12:52.we're getting a fair deal. Up every High Street, including this one in

:12:52. > :12:58.St Albans, has British Gas customers up against it.

:12:58. > :13:03.Hazel champion has had to cut back on other essentials. As soon as I

:13:03. > :13:11.am a pensioner, there is only me in the house, my electric is over 100

:13:11. > :13:16.a month. Work the sums out - they do not work out, do they? How do

:13:16. > :13:22.you live? How do you eat? This woman is on a low-income with

:13:22. > :13:29.a child to look after. Ideally, I would like to work but I cannot

:13:29. > :13:35.because of my circumstances. He there has been a threat of more

:13:35. > :13:42.price rises after the company said that the cost of gas supplies was

:13:42. > :13:47.up again in May. Do it said that, without last year's increases, it

:13:47. > :13:52.would be losing money. The cost of gas is one of the biggest worries

:13:52. > :13:58.for British families. What customers would like to see is a

:13:58. > :14:02.substantial cut in prices in time for the winter.

:14:02. > :14:06.A in fact, after the summer price rises last year, this energy

:14:07. > :14:14.experts says that the course -- the cost of wholesale gas has dropped.

:14:14. > :14:18.It has gone down. Wholesale prices are probably down by 14%. You could

:14:18. > :14:22.make a case for reducing prices to customers. Cheaper gas for

:14:22. > :14:32.consumers is not yet in the pipeline, but at least price

:14:32. > :14:37.

:14:37. > :14:47.increases from British Gas looked Join me in the Olympic Park for all

:14:47. > :14:49.

:14:49. > :14:57.you need to know for a successful An investigation is underway after

:14:57. > :15:00.a man is shot by police in Surrey. Let the Games Games begin. We get a

:15:00. > :15:07.taste of what it will be like for the spectators visiting the Olympic

:15:07. > :15:12.The Government is hosting a conference of visiting leaders and

:15:12. > :15:14.company bosses to encourage them to invest in the UK. It's thought the

:15:14. > :15:18.Olympics could pump an extra 1 billion into the British economy

:15:18. > :15:27.this summer alone. Our Chief Economics Correspondent, Hugh Pym,

:15:27. > :15:32.looks at whether London 2012 could The countdown is nearly over and

:15:32. > :15:36.retailers are hoping to the Olympic good feel factor. Other businesses

:15:36. > :15:40.are hoping for a boost and the Prime Minister wants to help that

:15:40. > :15:44.happen. Welcome to London.

:15:44. > :15:46.Welcome to the greatest show on earth. Mr Cameron launched an

:15:46. > :15:55.investment conference, taking advantage of the Olympics to bring

:15:55. > :16:00.It was at Lancaster House which will be branded Britain's business

:16:00. > :16:04.embassy over the Games. Of course, I want medals for

:16:04. > :16:08.Britain. I know I have got another job to do this summer and a big

:16:08. > :16:13.part of that is to get behind British business and do everything

:16:13. > :16:16.I can to help secure the trade and investment that will help get the

:16:16. > :16:20.world back to sustained global growth.

:16:20. > :16:24.How much will British firms gain in deals done at this conference

:16:24. > :16:28.centre and during the Olympics? Mr Cameron says 1 billion of orders

:16:28. > :16:33.will be signed this summer and the the Olympics could benefit

:16:33. > :16:41.president economy by 13 billion, but that's not a lot next to total

:16:41. > :16:45.economic output, 1500 billion. This firm felt a warm Olympic glow.

:16:45. > :16:50.It has been making components for the torches. It has been able to

:16:50. > :16:54.very much and hire new staff. It enabled us to grow in the period

:16:54. > :17:00.when lots of people have been struggling. It enabled us to employ

:17:00. > :17:07.40 people and invest in the state- of-the-art new laser machines.

:17:07. > :17:10.After the drop in output two between April and June, most comisz

:17:10. > :17:14.economists agree that economic output will increase and the UK

:17:14. > :17:19.will be facing challenges. Labour says after yesterday's news

:17:19. > :17:23.of a bigger than expected economic contraction, it was time for a

:17:23. > :17:28.change of course in Downing Street. The lesson that George Osborne and

:17:28. > :17:31.David Cameron have to learn, the plan they put forward, Plan A is

:17:31. > :17:34.not working, austerity is not working. They promised change and

:17:34. > :17:40.promised things would get better and not worse, but the opposite

:17:40. > :17:42.happened and it is families and Every effort has been made to

:17:42. > :17:46.welcome visitors at airports and demonstrate that the UK is a good

:17:46. > :17:55.place to do business. But as far as the economic recovery is concerned,

:17:55. > :18:00.Well, on the eve of the Olympics final preparations are being put in

:18:00. > :18:05.place behind me and across London, they're already in a party mood.

:18:05. > :18:09.Let's go over to Sophie Raworth in Hyde Park. Sophie. George, up to

:18:09. > :18:14.60,000 people are expected here in Hyde Park for a concert to

:18:14. > :18:19.celebrate the last full day of the torch relay. The flame is due to

:18:19. > :18:28.arrive in less than an hour's time. It is making its way past London's

:18:28. > :18:31.famous sites. The flame was carried to St Paul's Cathedral, Piccadilly

:18:31. > :18:35.Circus and Trafalgar Square and it was greeted by the Prime Minister

:18:35. > :18:44.in Downing Street. Its next stop will be a Royal appointment at

:18:44. > :18:49.Buckingham Palace. Let's join Robert Hall.

:18:49. > :18:53.Today is Super Thursday. They have packed it with iconic London

:18:53. > :18:59.locations and they sprinkled the day with personalities from the

:18:59. > :19:09.worlds of show business and sport and politics as well.

:19:09. > :19:13.

:19:13. > :19:17.It is a fitting finale. Good morning convoy. Thanks for

:19:17. > :19:24.your support over the last 69 days and let's rock London!

:19:24. > :19:27.Steve, convoy commander, a 15 year veteran of torch relays preparing

:19:27. > :19:30.to lead the charge into Central London.

:19:30. > :19:33.The engagement with communities has been fantastic and the reception

:19:33. > :19:39.has been unbelievable and this stands out. The crowds have been

:19:39. > :19:45.bigger than I expected by far. At the start point, runner number

:19:45. > :19:49.one, Clive Woodward. Around the travellers who have accompanied the

:19:49. > :19:53.flame on every step of the marathon. After nearly ten weeks, they have

:19:53. > :20:01.become a family and tonight they will say their goodbyes.

:20:01. > :20:05.of life for this and it will be quite emotional to say goodbye to a

:20:05. > :20:09.few people. On the roads leading south, the

:20:09. > :20:13.crowds were so dense the torchbearers had to be forced

:20:13. > :20:16.through. For 69 days, the cameras on this

:20:16. > :20:20.vehicle spread an unfolding story around the world. The story began

:20:20. > :20:25.three years ago when the planners didn't really know whether they

:20:25. > :20:30.could move more than 300 people into every corner of the UK and nor

:20:30. > :20:37.whether they could engage with the communities along the route and

:20:37. > :20:44.they need not have worried. In Chelsea, glamour, bowled one

:20:44. > :20:49.photographer over. In West London, a show business knight struck a

:20:49. > :20:53.pose on the site Olympics. It needs people to come out and do

:20:53. > :20:57.this. It is very moving. It is very very emotional.

:20:57. > :21:05.At St Paul's, the crowd swirled around the cathedral steps. The

:21:05. > :21:09.personality of wheelchair basketball Olympian, Adedoyin

:21:09. > :21:14.Adepitan, filled the Millennium Bridge and the streets of Peckham

:21:14. > :21:18.erupted in excitement as news spread that a Bollywood superstar

:21:18. > :21:27.was in town. A paramedic was nominated by the

:21:27. > :21:31.woman whose life she helped to save in the aftermath of the 7/7 attacks.

:21:31. > :21:34.An individual moment, an individual moment of glory and a moment to

:21:34. > :21:39.shine. In the past hour, the torch convoy

:21:39. > :21:43.has wound its way through Trafalgar Square and towards Westminster and

:21:43. > :21:51.a famous black door. Ahead a Royal appointment and the finish line

:21:51. > :21:55.which once seemed so far away. The torch met David Cameron and his

:21:55. > :22:00.wife. The activation convoy is passing behind me. The torch will

:22:00. > :22:02.arrive, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will

:22:02. > :22:06.inspect it in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace and on to Hyde

:22:06. > :22:16.Park where you are Sophie. It will be a sad day for the convoy, but

:22:16. > :22:16.

:22:16. > :22:20.they will be happy that they have The torch will end the day here in

:22:20. > :22:24.Hyde Park and the crowds are continuing to build. The headline

:22:24. > :22:28.act is the singer Dizzee Rascal who is recorded one of the official

:22:28. > :22:31.tracks for London 2012 and he's here with me now. Dizzy, thank you

:22:31. > :22:36.for joining us. You ran with the flame at weekend. Halfs it like for

:22:36. > :22:40.you? -- what was it like for you? It was amazing just running through

:22:40. > :22:42.those people, through the streets of East London where I grew up and

:22:42. > :22:47.seeing the community spirit. It was brilliant.

:22:47. > :22:57.East London is where you grew up. The Olympics stadium and the

:22:57. > :22:58.

:22:58. > :23:01.Olympic Park, it is close to where you grew up.

:23:01. > :23:07.We seem to have lost the link to the the backstage, not far away,

:23:07. > :23:16.but a few problems with that tonight, but the flame will arrive

:23:16. > :23:20.at 7.15pm. It will be run into here by a young man, called Tyler Ricks.

:23:20. > :23:28.That's all from us in Hyde Park. There is lots more information

:23:28. > :23:37.about London 2012 on the BBC News website.

:23:37. > :23:43.At 7pm you can watch Olympics 2012 with Gary Lineker with the football

:23:43. > :23:46.and Team GB men's football. That kicks off off at 8pm. George, back

:23:46. > :23:53.to you. If you are lucky enough to have

:23:53. > :23:56.tickets for events at the lbg, what should -- -- Olympic Park, what

:23:56. > :24:01.should you expect when you get there? It is a vast site. Here with

:24:01. > :24:05.his guide to the park is Clive Myhre.

:24:05. > :24:10.You have braved the crowds, negotiated public transport. Your

:24:10. > :24:16.bags have been searched. Welcome to the London 2012 Olympic

:24:16. > :24:24.Park. It is vast. The size of 350 football pitches. Much of it built

:24:24. > :24:29.on land that was once derelict, but now a sporting complex, the envy of

:24:29. > :24:36.the world. Most of you will enter through the Stratford Gate over

:24:36. > :24:39.there. The first thing you will feast your eyes on is the Aquatic

:24:39. > :24:43.Centre. You have the Orbit tower. Here, right next to it, the jewel

:24:43. > :24:49.in the crown of the park, the Olympic Stadium for all the traffic

:24:49. > :24:53.and the field. Let me show you the rest of the park. Wear sturdy shows,

:24:53. > :24:57.you will need them. If you are prone to blisters, bring plasters,

:24:57. > :25:00.there is a lot of ground to cover here. Right, I reckon that took 15

:25:00. > :25:03.minutes from the Southend of the park up to the north end, but worth

:25:04. > :25:09.it. That over there, a beautiful building, it is the velodrome,

:25:09. > :25:14.beyond that, the BMX track and over to the right, that's where they

:25:14. > :25:19.will be playing basketball. Imagine you are going through airport

:25:19. > :25:23.security, no large bottles of liquids and nothing sharp. If you

:25:23. > :25:28.want to bring in sandwiches, that's fine. Huge Hampers of food are a no,

:25:28. > :25:38.no. There are plenty of restaurants, a bacon sandwich will cost you

:25:38. > :25:39.

:25:39. > :25:49.3.30 and fish and chips 8.50. The London official 2012 programme

:25:49. > :25:54.

:25:54. > :25:58.will set you back a tenner. A lot is paying you for it. An American

:25:58. > :26:02.landscape artist created vi tas of wild flowers and herb gardens, be

:26:02. > :26:12.prepared to be amazed and dazzled and I'm not talking about the

:26:12. > :26:14.

:26:14. > :26:19.sport! Let's get weather with Nick Miller.

:26:19. > :26:21.Will there be clear skies for the Will there be clear skies for the

:26:21. > :26:26.opening ceremony? I am reasonably confident it will

:26:27. > :26:30.stay dry. Maybe not as hot. The temperatures on a down ward trend.

:26:30. > :26:36.But it should stay fine for the football at Old Trafford. The GB

:26:36. > :26:40.men's team taking on Senegal and reasonably warm. A pleasant evening

:26:40. > :26:43.for most central and southern parts of the UK. Cool in the breeze.

:26:43. > :26:47.Later in the night, we will start to see showers nudging up from the

:26:47. > :26:51.near Continent into southern most counties of England. A muggy night

:26:51. > :26:55.in the south. Fresher further north. Tomorrow, there is just the chance

:26:55. > :27:00.of one or two showers creeping in towards the London area, towards

:27:00. > :27:04.the South Coast, it could be heavy and thundery at times. But for most,

:27:05. > :27:08.it will be a dry day. Further showers moving into north-

:27:08. > :27:18.west Scotland where it will be a cool and showery day and the odd

:27:18. > :27:18.

:27:18. > :27:21.shower managing to make its way I can't rule out an afternoon

:27:21. > :27:25.shower. Temperatures disappointing here.

:27:25. > :27:28.Not quite as hot as today in Cardiff. We reached 28 Celsius here

:27:28. > :27:31.today and more like 23 Celsius tomorrow. Similar temperatures

:27:31. > :27:38.through the afternoon in the London area. Hopefully the showers

:27:38. > :27:41.beginning to move away as we go We are confident that the showers

:27:41. > :27:45.will begin to move away from any risk of affecting the opening

:27:45. > :27:51.ceremony and temperatures more comfort comfortable, around about

:27:51. > :27:55.21 Celsius. Towards the weekend, fine in the south, but a chance of

:27:55. > :28:03.showers becoming widespread as the weekend goes on and the

:28:03. > :28:06.A reminder of tonight's main news: The years of planning and waiting

:28:07. > :28:10.are nearly over. There is just one day to go until the opening
