:00:08. > :00:13.Two weeks of heartbreak and heroism - the Olympic games are over.

:00:13. > :00:16.Winners and losers head back home. There's a special departure

:00:16. > :00:25.terminal at Heathrow for the athletes and officials - they've

:00:25. > :00:31.got medals, hangovers and memories. They have been the most amazing few

:00:31. > :00:34.weeks of my life. The best Olympics I have been too. Really great.

:00:35. > :00:38.greatest show on earth draws to an end - 26 million watched the

:00:38. > :00:43.closing ceremony on TV. Now the organisers get ready for the

:00:43. > :00:46.Paralympics. Also on tonight's programme:

:00:46. > :00:51.Stuart Hazell, the man charged with murdering the schoolgirl Tia Sharp,

:00:51. > :00:54.appears in court - more details emerge of where the body was found.

:00:54. > :01:04.A grenade attack in Manchester - police appeal for help as they

:01:04. > :01:04.

:01:04. > :01:11.The crowds are back in Egypt's Tahrir Square - support for the

:01:11. > :01:14.newly elected president as he takes on the mighty military.

:01:14. > :01:24.Back on top of the golfing world - Rory McIlroy talks about what it's

:01:24. > :01:26.

:01:26. > :01:31.Coming up, we walk ahead to England's upcoming friendlies

:01:31. > :01:41.against Italy and see how Jack Butland could make an unusual

:01:41. > :01:51.

:01:52. > :02:01.Good evening. Welcome to the BBC News at Six from the Olympic Park

:02:02. > :02:04.which - for the first time in two weeks - has fallen silent. After

:02:04. > :02:06.last night's closing ceremony and one of the biggest parties London

:02:07. > :02:09.has ever seen, hundreds of thousands of athletes, officials

:02:09. > :02:14.and spectators are heading home. A special departure terminal has been

:02:14. > :02:19.set up at Heathrow airport to cope with the extra load. Our Olympics

:02:19. > :02:26.correspondent Jon Kay has spent the day there.

:02:26. > :02:33.One and that was that. Sport Dalek, flame about, Olympic party over --

:02:33. > :02:39.sport done. Flame out. Heathrow, the morning after the games before.

:02:39. > :02:45.The world's fittest and fastest, now just flaked out. You have just

:02:45. > :02:53.had a couple of hours' sleep? I am very tired. Ready to get home?

:02:53. > :03:00.Yeah, and dream about it. There is even a temporary new terminal, just

:03:00. > :03:04.for athletes. And as quirky as the Games themselves. And how about

:03:04. > :03:08.this for a souvenir to show your family. Oh, it was the most

:03:08. > :03:18.incredible feeling ever. It has been the most amazing few weeks of

:03:18. > :03:21.my life. I'll keep it in my handbag, in a safe pouch, tucked away.

:03:21. > :03:25.athletes turned up for the Games, their rivals were staggered over

:03:25. > :03:34.the course of a month. Now they are all heading home at exactly the

:03:34. > :03:37.same time. At Stansted, high praise from Greek athletes, and their

:03:37. > :03:44.country first created the Games. is the best Olympics I have been

:03:44. > :03:51.too. Top marks for everything. Olympic get away it is already well

:03:51. > :03:57.under way. 10,500 athletes took part. Of them, 8,000 are flying

:03:57. > :04:02.home out of Heathrow. Plus, support staff and spectators. This morning,

:04:02. > :04:07.6,000 items of Olympic baggage had already been checked in, and that

:04:07. > :04:11.is before the sportsmen and women themselves had turned up. To keep

:04:11. > :04:16.things moving, hundreds of volunteers. They are exhausted, too,

:04:16. > :04:21.but full of pride. Absolutely fantastic. It has been a great

:04:21. > :04:26.experience, great to be a part of it. After two-and-a-half weeks of

:04:26. > :04:36.adulation, the Olympians are now back in the real world. No more

:04:36. > :04:37.

:04:37. > :04:42.Games lane to speed through the Their the rest have souvenir

:04:42. > :04:49.bedlinen from the athletes' village, and they are dreaming of the next

:04:49. > :04:55.chance, in four years time. Two weeks on, Team GB has finished

:04:55. > :04:58.third with 65 medals overall, 29 of them gold. The performance won

:04:58. > :05:02.praise from Lord Moynihan, who is stepping down as the head of the

:05:02. > :05:06.British Olympic Association. Despite earlier worries about

:05:06. > :05:16.transport and security, the organisation of the Games has been

:05:16. > :05:25.

:05:25. > :05:35.hailed as a success around the After 17 days of fabulous diversion,

:05:35. > :05:36.

:05:36. > :05:40.Britain was today coming to terms The build up to these Games was

:05:40. > :05:45.accompanied by years of anxiety, as to whether the country could cope

:05:46. > :05:50.with a project of this magnitude. But all those fears have melted

:05:50. > :05:55.away amid a joyous celebration, and London has delivered an Olympics

:05:55. > :06:01.which will rank among the finest ever seen. So what was the secret

:06:01. > :06:05.to their success? Organisers completed the Olympic Park on time

:06:05. > :06:09.and under budget, allowing them to concentrate on fine-tuning other

:06:09. > :06:15.complicated issues, such as how to get millions of people around

:06:15. > :06:19.London during the Games. The Prime Minister wasn't in power when the

:06:19. > :06:24.Games were won under Labour, but that did not dampen his enthusiasm,

:06:24. > :06:28.as he saw first hand, the Olympic feel-good factor. I think the world

:06:28. > :06:32.will take a message that Britain is a great country with a great future,

:06:32. > :06:36.we are open for business, we are a great place to live and work and we

:06:36. > :06:40.have a great future ahead of us. It has been a great advert for Britain.

:06:40. > :06:43.Yes, economic times are difficult and tough but the Olympics

:06:43. > :06:47.demonstrate that if you apply yourself enough, if you really want

:06:47. > :06:52.to get something done, you can do it. Not everything went to plan.

:06:52. > :06:56.The military came to the rescue twice, first plugging the gap left

:06:56. > :07:02.by private security guards, and then filling empty seats set aside

:07:02. > :07:08.for Olympic VIPs. Of course, it may have all felt very different if the

:07:08. > :07:13.team hadn't performed. But perform, they did. From established names

:07:13. > :07:16.like Jessica Ennis, to newcomers like Nicola Adams, a Team GB

:07:17. > :07:22.experienced a breathtaking gold rush, unprecedented in the modern

:07:22. > :07:26.era. The crowd are on their feet, they are trying to roar him home!

:07:26. > :07:31.They were cheered on by some of the most vocal and enthusiastic crowds

:07:31. > :07:35.ever seen. Just ask the new double Olympic champion, Mo Farah.

:07:35. > :07:38.gives you confidence, it gave me a massive boost. I want to thank

:07:38. > :07:42.everyone who has been out there. The amount of support that we had,

:07:42. > :07:47.it is incredible, I have never heard a noise like that in my life

:07:47. > :07:52.and I will never hear it again. Despite Rebecca Adlington's two

:07:52. > :07:56.bronze medals, swimming was one of the big disappointments. They

:07:56. > :08:00.missed their metal targets, and those in charge of Team GB said

:08:01. > :08:04.lessons had to be learned -- medal targets. You have to assess those

:08:04. > :08:08.sports. As long as they are doing everything right, you want to

:08:08. > :08:14.increase funding and do more to make sure they have a better

:08:14. > :08:22.opportunity in four years time. There will be some assessment but

:08:22. > :08:28.you get big highs and piccolos in sport. -- and big lows. Who could

:08:28. > :08:32.forget Chris Hoy's tears as he became Britain's greatest Olympian,

:08:32. > :08:37.or David Rudisha's stunning run to break his 800 metres world record.

:08:37. > :08:43.But the Games Beyonce -- belonged to Usain Bolt, whose golden treble

:08:43. > :08:48.confirmed him as the greatest sprinter. There was a reminder of

:08:48. > :08:54.the darker side, as the new Olympic champion, Nadzeya Ostapchuck, was

:08:54. > :08:57.stripped of her gold medal for taking drugs. The circus is rolling

:08:57. > :09:03.out of town and an Olympic hangover awaits. At least the country can

:09:03. > :09:09.take pride at the way it put fun and a sense of soul back into the

:09:09. > :09:14.Games. More on the Olympics later, but now

:09:14. > :09:18.for the rest of today's news. The man accused of murdering Tia Sharp

:09:18. > :09:24.has appeared before magistrates in London by video link. Stuart Hazell,

:09:24. > :09:30.who is 37, was remanded in custody. The missing 12-year-old's body was

:09:30. > :09:35.found at her grandmother's house in New Addington on Friday.

:09:35. > :09:41.It is now a 10 days since Tia Sharp disappeared. The body found in a

:09:41. > :09:44.small terraced house here, has not yet still been formally identified.

:09:44. > :09:49.A post-mortem continues this week and it is considering the

:09:49. > :09:54.possibility that she was smothered. Stuart Hazel faced his first day in

:09:54. > :09:59.court today, but not in person. Stuart Hazell, minutes before he

:09:59. > :10:03.was recognised by onlookers and arrested by police. They had found

:10:03. > :10:08.the body of Tia Sharp in the loft of the house he shared with her

:10:08. > :10:12.grandmother. We now know it was in a black bag, wrapped in a black

:10:12. > :10:17.bedsheet. Stuart Hazel appeared during today's court hearing from a

:10:17. > :10:22.police station via a video link. Unusual, at this stage of a case

:10:22. > :10:26.and perhaps suggesting police concerns about public anger. He

:10:26. > :10:32.confirmed he understood the charge, he was told his case will be passed

:10:32. > :10:37.to the Old Bailey. In the last week, the house has been repeatedly

:10:37. > :10:44.surged, including by a police body recovery dock. Scotland Yard has

:10:44. > :10:48.now admitted that human error resulted in a failure to find Tia,

:10:48. > :10:52.even though the occasion she was finally discovered had been checked.

:10:52. > :10:57.-- the location. While that was going on, Stuart Hazell protested

:10:57. > :11:03.that he had not murdered her. didn't, I loved it to bits, she was

:11:03. > :11:08.like my own daughter. Tia's mother visited this impromptu memorial

:11:08. > :11:12.yesterday and today, more washers have arrived, bearing flowers and

:11:12. > :11:19.children's toys. The tributes fill the pavement she once used to visit

:11:19. > :11:22.her grandmother's house. Christine Sharp, at Tia's

:11:22. > :11:26.grandmother has been released on bail. She had also been arrested

:11:26. > :11:30.along with a neighbour arrested in connection with an allegation he

:11:30. > :11:33.helped a suspect. Stuart Hazell will appear in court again at the

:11:33. > :11:38.Old Bailey on Wednesday, with a more substantial hearing being

:11:38. > :11:42.planned for November. An official report has concluded

:11:42. > :11:46.that Norwegian police could have prevented or interrupted the bomb

:11:46. > :11:51.and gun attack by a far-right fanatics who killed 77 people last

:11:51. > :11:58.year. Anders Breivik has admitted killing 77 people and wounding more

:11:58. > :12:05.than 240 others, when he bumped And -- he bombed central Oslo and

:12:05. > :12:12.opened fire on Utoeya Island. High the new President of Egypt,

:12:12. > :12:16.Mohammed Mursi, has called on Egyptians took rally behind him

:12:17. > :12:19.after he removed two senior figures. He has been locked in a power

:12:19. > :12:24.struggle with the generals who took control in the wake of a popular

:12:24. > :12:27.uprising. James Roberts reports on the

:12:27. > :12:34.decisive moment in Egypt's transition.

:12:34. > :12:39.Go away, field marshal, chant the crowds in Cairo's Tahrir Square.

:12:39. > :12:41.The Egyptians celebrating their elected President's decision to

:12:42. > :12:46.sack two top generals and take back the political power that the

:12:46. > :12:49.military wanted to hold onto. President Mohammed Mursi and Field

:12:49. > :12:54.Marshal Tantawi were locked in a power struggle. The President has

:12:54. > :12:59.struck, lauding his chief soldier a medal and an advisory role, but

:12:59. > :13:09.forcing him from the top spot. Mohammed Mursi, it was very careful

:13:09. > :13:12.to keep the rest of the military onside, and the people behind him.

:13:12. > :13:17.TRANSLATION: To the honourable Egyptian people, the decisions I

:13:17. > :13:21.took today were not meant to target certain persons, nor did I intend

:13:21. > :13:31.to embarrass institutions. Nor could my aim never be too narrow

:13:31. > :13:35.

:13:35. > :13:40.freedoms for those who God created This is a huge moment for Egypt and

:13:40. > :13:46.the wider world, as the country's elected president, Mohammed Mursi,

:13:46. > :13:51.moves to end the army's dominant role and to push for Egypt's

:13:51. > :13:56.unfinished Revolution. -- to push forward. He has taken two risks.

:13:56. > :13:59.First by sacking this man, the head of the armed forces, who hoped to

:13:59. > :14:03.protect military power and privilege, and at the same time,

:14:03. > :14:07.the President has cancelled the service chiefs's decree which tried

:14:07. > :14:12.to prevent the new President controlling the military and

:14:12. > :14:20.leadership. The decree also dissolved Egypt's parliament.

:14:20. > :14:24.are seeing an historic shift in deep relations in Egypt, more

:14:24. > :14:27.tilting in the balance of power towards the civilian side.

:14:27. > :14:33.President Mursi chose his moment, days after the funerals of 16

:14:33. > :14:37.border guards killed by Islamist extremists in the Sinai desert.

:14:37. > :14:43.Egypt's armed forces had failed to prevent. The leadership was

:14:43. > :14:46.A man accused of murdering six people, including his wife and two

:14:46. > :14:48.young children in Jersey, has appeared in court. The court heard

:14:48. > :14:52.Damian Rrzeszowski carried out the brutal knife attack because he

:14:52. > :15:01.could not face the prospect of his marriage breaking up. This report

:15:02. > :15:05.He arrived to face trial at 12 months after the debts which shook

:15:05. > :15:10.his peaceful island. Damian Rrzeszowski, the man who killed his

:15:10. > :15:14.family, after a summer barbecue at his home. The court heard that he

:15:14. > :15:20.had been experiencing difficulties with his marriage and had just

:15:20. > :15:25.returned from Poland with his wife and their two children. At around

:15:25. > :15:31.by 2:45pm, he launched a series of attacks inside their ground-floor

:15:31. > :15:37.flat on the outskirts of St Hellier. His father-in-law is thought to

:15:37. > :15:40.have been the first victim. Stabbed as he watched TV in his bedroom.

:15:40. > :15:45.But his two-and-a-half-year-old son died as he painted pictures at the

:15:46. > :15:52.dining room table and had 13 stab wounds. His five-year-old sister on

:15:52. > :15:57.the right of this picture, was attacked alongside him. Her friend,

:15:57. > :16:01.also five, died in the hallway at the ground floor flat. Julia's

:16:02. > :16:08.mother, badly injured, escaped through the front door but died in

:16:08. > :16:13.the street. Damian Rrzeszowski pursued his wife through the flat

:16:13. > :16:18.and at one point, she tended to call the police on a mobile phone.

:16:18. > :16:21.-- attempted. Damian Rrzeszowski have followed him into a rear

:16:21. > :16:25.quarter, through a window, down the hallway and out onto the pavement.

:16:25. > :16:30.A short distance away, horrified neighbours tried to intervene but

:16:30. > :16:32.he stabbed her again. Damian Rrzeszowski was found with self-

:16:32. > :16:35.inflicted stab wounds and claims he can remember little about what

:16:35. > :16:39.happened. But the prosecution reject his admission of

:16:39. > :16:42.manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and say

:16:42. > :16:50.the murder has resulted from anger and violence, bottled up during the

:16:51. > :16:54.breakdown of his marriage. Our top story tonight.

:16:54. > :17:04.Two weeks of heartbreak and heroism. The Games are over. Winners and

:17:04. > :17:10.

:17:10. > :17:14.Rory McIlroy is back on top of their success in the US PGA.

:17:14. > :17:17.In the business news, the Greek economy contracts again as it

:17:17. > :17:27.struggles to avoid a debt default and after being taken over by

:17:27. > :17:32.

:17:32. > :17:34.Google, Motorola/is 20% of its We return to London 2012. And right

:17:34. > :17:36.now there's a homecoming celebration in Leeds for Olympic

:17:36. > :17:41.medallists including the brothers, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, who

:17:41. > :17:48.earned gold and bronze in the triathlon. Let's go live to our

:17:48. > :17:51.Correspondent, Danny Savage, who's at the Civic Hall.

:17:51. > :17:55.Good, good evening. It Yorkshire was a country, they say it would

:17:55. > :18:00.have come up to weld in the medals table. Here's a handful of the

:18:00. > :18:06.winners from Yorkshire here tonight. If the Brownlie family were a

:18:06. > :18:10.country they would be 49th in the medals table which is not too bad.

:18:10. > :18:13.Understand Johnny are with me this evening for the board is like

:18:13. > :18:19.seeing your home crowd outside, thousands of people? It's

:18:19. > :18:22.incredible. Last week, after we raced, they were tens of thousands

:18:23. > :18:28.of people there, but to see people turning up in Leeds, a much smaller

:18:28. > :18:31.place, our home town, it's more special. You train outdoors in the

:18:31. > :18:35.neighbourhoods where these people live and you're out there in the

:18:35. > :18:41.countryside. That's what great about triathlon and cycling, we

:18:41. > :18:48.just train out there. We don't have a special gyms but to train out on

:18:48. > :18:56.the roads. I went for a runner this afternoon and went past dog-walkers

:18:56. > :19:01.hooted me on. Had he been recognised? Yes, definitely. It's a

:19:01. > :19:05.friendly environment and people recognise us. What's the best thing

:19:05. > :19:10.about being the Olympic champion? I'm not sure, too many things in

:19:10. > :19:14.the past week. I'm on the crest of a wave. I'm about to fall but any

:19:14. > :19:18.day now. We also have a silver medallist won a tonight, Lizzie

:19:18. > :19:25.Armistead, the first winner for Team GB. What was it like to win

:19:25. > :19:29.early on and then just sit back and relax? It was unexpected, to be the

:19:29. > :19:34.first winner, because we had Mike Cavendish the week before and we

:19:34. > :19:38.had high expectations so to get the first one was unexpected. Fantastic.

:19:38. > :19:41.I enjoyed the rest of the Olympics and got to see as many sports as I

:19:41. > :19:44.couldn't have a great time. Well done, pleasure to meet you. The

:19:44. > :19:48.nation is proud of you and the people of Yorkshire are proud of

:19:48. > :19:52.you, as well. Thousands of people are here to see them and it's going

:19:52. > :19:55.to be a great evening in West Yorkshire tonight. Thank you. Well,

:19:55. > :19:58.no sooner had the closing ceremony finished, and the organisers of

:19:58. > :20:01.London 2012 began the job of preparing for the Paralympics which

:20:01. > :20:11.start in just over two weeks' time. But what happens to the venues

:20:11. > :20:12.

:20:12. > :20:16.afterwards? Clive Myrie has been Put some of Team GB today, a gentle

:20:16. > :20:19.run around relent -- empty Olympic Park followed last net closing

:20:19. > :20:26.ceremony parties. For others in the athletes village, the end of the

:20:26. > :20:30.games of chance to smoke, guilty pleasure denied four weeks. 20,000

:20:30. > :20:34.journalists tell the story of these games and have today, some were

:20:34. > :20:40.packing up. They fed the appetite of billions around the globe. Now

:20:40. > :20:45.their cameras and equipment sit idle. This place was the centre of

:20:45. > :20:48.the world for 16 incredible days and now thoughts turn to the future.

:20:48. > :20:54.The Olympic Stadium stays but it's not clear how it will be used.

:20:54. > :20:57.Football is one option. It will, however, host the World Athletics

:20:57. > :21:04.Championships in 2017. The Aquatics Centre remains and will be

:21:04. > :21:09.available to the public. The Water Polo swimming-pool will be gone.

:21:09. > :21:14.The Ben madrone and copper box will stay but the basketball arena will

:21:14. > :21:19.disappear -- Velodrome. And the Riverbank Arena which hosted the

:21:19. > :21:24.hockey, but will be dismantled. Taken apart, eventually to build

:21:24. > :21:28.more housing. But not just yet. This was the warm up page for the

:21:28. > :21:32.Olympic hockey which will turn into a five-a-side Paralympic football

:21:33. > :21:36.venue. We will put in a stand and a football field in this blue area,

:21:36. > :21:40.so what you can see now, we will transform it into a football

:21:40. > :21:45.stadium and we have one week to do it. That is just one venue which

:21:45. > :21:49.must be adapted. It's one of the things you have to bear in mind for
