:00:00. > :00:08.Nigeria's missing schoolgirls - a video which appears to show more

:00:09. > :00:15.than 100 of them is released by Islamist extremists.

:00:16. > :00:21.Reciting the Koran - it's the first glimpse of them since they

:00:22. > :00:24.disappeared a month ago. The leader of Boko Haram says some of the girls

:00:25. > :00:26.have converted to Islam and are now "sisters of the militants". We're

:00:27. > :00:39.with one family in Nigeria's North, desperate for news of loved ones.

:00:40. > :00:42.Also tonight: A court is told that Rolf Harris indecently assaulted one

:00:43. > :00:44.of his daughter's friends during a family holiday.

:00:45. > :00:48.Missing kayakers - the bodies of two brothers and their cousin are found

:00:49. > :00:49.in the River Tyne. Calls for Gary Barlow to return his

:00:50. > :00:53.OBE are dismissed by the Calls for Gary Barlow to return his

:00:54. > :00:55.Minister in a row over the star's tax.

:00:56. > :01:01.And 20-year-old Ross Barkley leads the England young guns heading for

:01:02. > :01:04.Brazil. On BBC London: The disgraced former

:01:05. > :01:08.council leader facing suspension from the Lords for wrongly claiming

:01:09. > :01:10.thousands of pounds in allowances. And victims of dog attacks welcome a

:01:11. > :01:34.change in the law. Good evening.

:01:35. > :01:37.A month after they disappeared, a video has been released which

:01:38. > :01:41.appears to show more than 100 of the girls who were kidnapped from their

:01:42. > :01:44.school in Nigeria. The militant Islamist group, Boko Haram, which is

:01:45. > :01:49.holding them, says some girls could be freed in a prisoner exchange. The

:01:50. > :01:53.girls were taken from the their school in Chibok in the North East

:01:54. > :01:55.of the country on the 14th of April. Our World Affairs Editor John

:01:56. > :01:59.Simpson was the first Western journalist to reach the area. He's

:02:00. > :02:12.just sent this report from nearby Maiduguri.

:02:13. > :02:17.136 girls, most of whom were Kristian until a month ago,

:02:18. > :02:24.obediently charmed the first part of the Koran, dressed in hijab. In

:02:25. > :02:31.fact, if you look closely, not all of them are chancing. It is the

:02:32. > :02:35.first sighting of them, yet more than half of the girls are not

:02:36. > :02:39.here. Whether because they refused to convert or for some other

:02:40. > :02:45.reason, we do not know. One of the girls is led to the front of the

:02:46. > :02:55.crowd and told to give a Muslim name, rather than her Christian one.

:02:56. > :03:03.She is clearly frightened. In the video, Boko Haram's leader, who is

:03:04. > :03:12.said to be flamboyant, clever and mocking, launches into a long

:03:13. > :03:16.harangue. These girls, you are so concerned with, he says, we have

:03:17. > :03:23.liberated them. They have become Ms limbs. They are staying with us. --

:03:24. > :03:28.they have become Muslims. This man is desperate for news of

:03:29. > :03:32.the girls. He has made the dangerous journey from Chibok where they were

:03:33. > :03:35.kidnapped, to Maiduguri. No fewer than six of his relatives were taken

:03:36. > :03:40.- sisters, nieces and cousins. But he cannot spot them in the video.

:03:41. > :03:45.This must be pretty shocking for you to see this. It is one of the most

:03:46. > :03:53.shocking moments I have ever found myself in. This is inhuman. There is

:03:54. > :03:56.no need for them to impose on them the Islamic religion. Everyone has

:03:57. > :04:09.the right to the Islamic religion. Everyone has

:04:10. > :04:13.to follow. Politicians here are furious with the federal government.

:04:14. > :04:16.They say that although Nigeria has one of Africa's biggest armies,

:04:17. > :04:19.nothing serious is being done to get the girls back. The federal

:04:20. > :04:23.government will say they are doing their best but we as parents and I,

:04:24. > :04:26.for example, as a representative of the people, would only say the

:04:27. > :04:29.government have done superbly well if the girls are back safe and

:04:30. > :04:35.healthy. No politician travels anywhere here without heavily armed

:04:36. > :04:44.escort. This is a silent and frightened city. The fact is Boko

:04:45. > :04:47.Haram has the upper hand in Borno state as a whole and its influence

:04:48. > :04:52.of power even here in the capital city, is certainly present. It looks

:04:53. > :04:55.as though the government, down in Abuja, simply doesn't care about any

:04:56. > :05:06.of this, any more than it seemed to put any effort at all into searching

:05:07. > :05:12.for the missing girls. The big question is, when Boko Haram

:05:13. > :05:16.suggests a swap, those Christian girls who refused to convert, in

:05:17. > :05:20.exchange for gorillas captured by the government, could this be the

:05:21. > :05:27.start of some kind of negotiation, or is it just talk?

:05:28. > :05:29.You can find out more about the situation in Nigeria and the

:05:30. > :05:38.militant group Boko Haram on our website. ??NEWINE The jury in the

:05:39. > :05:42.trial of Rolf Harris has been hearing from a woman who says he

:05:43. > :05:47.repeatedly abused her from the age of 13. The woman, who was a friend

:05:48. > :05:50.of his daughter, claims he assaulted her on a family holiday and at

:05:51. > :05:51.Harris's house. The 84-year old-denies indecently assaulting her

:05:52. > :05:54.and three old-denies indecently assaulting her

:05:55. > :06:01.and 1986. David Sillito reports from Southwark Crown Court.

:06:02. > :06:06.As Rolf Harris walked into court, he held two hands, to the left, his

:06:07. > :06:12.wife, Olwen, to the right, his daughter. At the heart of this

:06:13. > :06:18.case, the claims of a woman they all know, a childhood friend of Rolf

:06:19. > :06:23.Harris's daughter Bindi. In court, Rolf Harris wore a hearing loop to

:06:24. > :06:29.hear the testimony of a woman. She said she went on holiday with the

:06:30. > :06:33.Harris family when she was 13. In court she said she had been a very

:06:34. > :06:37.shy teenager and she was rather scared of her friend's very famous

:06:38. > :06:42.father. If she had spoken out, she said in her own words, it would have

:06:43. > :06:48.created mayhem. Her response to it all was to start drinking. On

:06:49. > :06:53.another occasion, she said she was on a sleepover with her friend. They

:06:54. > :07:00.were sharing a room. Rolf Harris walked in. The prosecuting barrister

:07:01. > :07:12.asked, how far away was Bindi? Did she remain asleep throughout?

:07:13. > :07:18.At the time Rolf Harris was a mainstay of children's television.

:07:19. > :07:23.In a letter, he said, nothing happened between them before she was

:07:24. > :07:29.18, a claim she disputes. She describes her feelings when he

:07:30. > :07:33.visited, I went upstairs to my bedroom and drank a shed load of

:07:34. > :07:38.gin. It would calmly write down, stop my heart beating, stop my

:07:39. > :07:44.anxiety. She said she thought about going to the police in 1997 but she

:07:45. > :07:49.was too drunk and too angry. The turning point was seeing him in 2012

:07:50. > :07:54.at the Queen's Jubilee concert. Rolf Harris left court today, as he

:07:55. > :07:57.arrived, flanked by his family. He denies all the charges.

:07:58. > :08:00.Rescue teams searching for three kayakers who went missing in

:08:01. > :08:04.Northumberland yesterday have found three bodies. The men, two brothers

:08:05. > :08:07.and their cousin, failed to return home after setting off along the

:08:08. > :08:16.river Tyne. Our correspondent Danny Savage is in Hexham.

:08:17. > :08:19.Over the weekend, it was really noticeable that these rivers were

:08:20. > :08:24.much higher than normal. They are several feet above the norm at the

:08:25. > :08:27.moment. This is where we believe those kayakers entered the water

:08:28. > :08:31.yesterday. Even with the river levels dropping, there is lots of

:08:32. > :08:36.Whitewater and rapids. Somewhere down river from here, those three

:08:37. > :08:40.men lost their lives. It was early this morning when searchers found

:08:41. > :08:46.the first evidence of yesterday's tragedy. A kayak was discovered and

:08:47. > :08:51.over the course of a few hours, three bodies were found and pulled

:08:52. > :08:55.from the water. What is not clear is exactly where a paddle down the

:08:56. > :09:00.river went wrong, resulting in the deaths of two brothers aged 40 and

:09:01. > :09:06.41 and their 36-year-old cousin. They were all from South Shields.

:09:07. > :09:10.The river was high and fast flowing. They are quite challenging

:09:11. > :09:15.conditions for anybody who wanted to kayak. The alarm was not raised

:09:16. > :09:19.until late last night. Today, boats and binoculars were aided by

:09:20. > :09:25.helicopters from the police and the RAF. By mid-morning, all three

:09:26. > :09:29.kayaks had been recovered by the fire and rescue service. One was

:09:30. > :09:37.tied to the roof of a fire engine. The suitability of these craft will

:09:38. > :09:43.be looked at in detail by the investigation. Police also said they

:09:44. > :09:47.found one of the kayak are's cars here and another downriver but a few

:09:48. > :09:53.miles into that journey something went disastrously wrong. We may

:09:54. > :09:56.never know exactly what happened, but the men were all wearing

:09:57. > :09:59.buoyancy aids. Pro-Russian separatists in parts of

:10:00. > :10:01.eastern Ukraine have declared victory in two unofficial

:10:02. > :10:07.referendums held yesterday despite opposition from western leaders, and

:10:08. > :10:09.the authorities in Kiev. Moscow is now calling for the results to be

:10:10. > :10:15."respected and implemented", saying they reflect the will of the people.

:10:16. > :10:25.But the interim president of Ukraine said the votes had no legal basis.

:10:26. > :10:30.David Cameron says he does not believe Gary Barlow should have to

:10:31. > :10:34.hand back his OBE after a judge ruled the singer had invested in a

:10:35. > :10:39.scheme predominantly designed for tax avoidance. But the Labour MP

:10:40. > :10:43.Margaret Hodge said the singer might want to show some contrition when

:10:44. > :10:47.giving back the award. Two other members of take that, Howard Donald

:10:48. > :10:56.and Mark Owen, may have to pay back millions of pounds of tax relief.

:10:57. > :11:00.Too many, here's national treasure, the boy band star who organised a

:11:01. > :11:06.concert for his queen. But while raising millions for charity, Gary

:11:07. > :11:11.Barlow also avoided paying millions in taxes. Many say he should give

:11:12. > :11:17.back his OBE. Not so his friend, the Prime Minister. He was given that

:11:18. > :11:19.award to his service to music, his immense charitable services for

:11:20. > :11:25.Children in Need, the faculty organised that concert for the

:11:26. > :11:32.Queen's Jubilee, he deserved his OBE and he should keep it. Gary Barlow

:11:33. > :11:40.and his fellow Take That members invested in this scheme. Hundreds

:11:41. > :11:43.invested in a similar scheme but Mr Barlow's partnership swiftly

:11:44. > :11:48.recorded losses of ?25 million which could be offset against income. The

:11:49. > :11:54.courts ruled the whole aim was to avoid tax. If he invested the money

:11:55. > :11:59.then he was trying not to pay tax on that sum. Tax on ?20 million is a

:12:00. > :12:03.large number. David Cameron wants the government to be seen to be

:12:04. > :12:07.tackling tax avoidance, closing loopholes and giving more money to

:12:08. > :12:12.the revenue. It is popular and helps the Treasury here cut the deficit.

:12:13. > :12:16.But while the Prime Minister is happy to attack tax avoiding

:12:17. > :12:20.corporations, he is more reluctant now to criticise individuals

:12:21. > :12:26.personally. It was not always thus. Two years ago, David Cameron

:12:27. > :12:31.described tax avoidance by the comedian Jimmy Carter, as morally

:12:32. > :12:36.wrong. It is a pleasure to share the stage with a member of Britain's

:12:37. > :12:49.best ever boy band, Gary Barlow. Today, the click -- the Prime

:12:50. > :12:52.Minister was less reluctant to criticise Gary Barlow who is a

:12:53. > :12:56.Conservative supporter. It looks like he will have to release more

:12:57. > :13:03.records like this to pay the tax he owes.

:13:04. > :13:06.Our top story this evening: Nigeria's missing schoolgirls, a

:13:07. > :13:12.video which appears to show more than 100 of them is released by

:13:13. > :13:17.Islamist extremists. Coming up, I am here in Manchester with a party

:13:18. > :13:21.which is just getting underway as Manchester City parade their Premier

:13:22. > :13:25.League trophy. Later on BBC London: Keeping their

:13:26. > :13:30.memories alive, the digital memorial to the millions who served in World

:13:31. > :13:34.War I. And Chelsea and Arsenal players make it on the plane to

:13:35. > :13:41.Brazil but Spurs are left out of the World Cup squad.

:13:42. > :13:45.There has been a big increase in the number of British veterans of the

:13:46. > :13:48.conflict in Afghanistan seeking mental health treatment because of

:13:49. > :13:51.their experiences in the war. The mental health charity Combat Stress

:13:52. > :13:59.says it received 358 new veteran referrals last year. That's a 57%

:14:00. > :14:02.rise on the 228 referrals in 2012. At the moment the charity is

:14:03. > :14:06.supporting more 600 veterans who fought in Afghanistan. Our defence

:14:07. > :14:14.correspondent Caroline Wyatt reports on the efforts being made to help

:14:15. > :14:22.them. The years on the front line can take

:14:23. > :14:25.their toll. British troops's fighting role in Afghanistan may

:14:26. > :14:31.soon be over but some will face new battles back home as the mental

:14:32. > :14:36.scars remain. Former reservist Jake Wood saw friends die in front of him

:14:37. > :14:38.in Helmand. He still suffers post-traumatic stress and his book

:14:39. > :14:45.describes the isolation veterans can feel on the return from combat. I

:14:46. > :14:49.was extremely jumpy around loud noises. I was constantly on alert

:14:50. > :14:52.for threats and dangers around me, which is exactly the mentality you

:14:53. > :15:02.have in Afghanistan, and you bring it home with you. I was getting

:15:03. > :15:11.terrible dreams. Always revolving around either me killing people or

:15:12. > :15:14.seeing people killed. The military mental health charity Combat Stress

:15:15. > :15:16.says it has seen a sharp rise in the number of soldiers who fought in

:15:17. > :15:21.Afghanistan seeking its help, although it is still hard for many

:15:22. > :15:26.to admit they need it. Many pretend perhaps to themselves that they can

:15:27. > :15:29.solve the problems themselves. Of course we train soldiers to solve

:15:30. > :15:34.problems and that training makes them very good soldiers and very bad

:15:35. > :15:37.at asking for help. OK, maybe it is not all great. In fact I am going

:15:38. > :15:42.through a nightmare at the moment. Do I need to talk about it? An

:15:43. > :15:46.advert campaign encouraged soldiers to come forward and veterans of

:15:47. > :15:50.Afghanistan are seeking help earlier, after 18 months rather than

:15:51. > :15:54.years. It is still not entirely clear why veterans of the campaign

:15:55. > :15:58.in Afghanistan are coming forward earlier for help than those of other

:15:59. > :16:03.campaigns. The MoD says it is keen to help further reduce the stigma

:16:04. > :16:04.associated with mental illness, and is working closely with Combat

:16:05. > :16:08.Stress to help veterans from all is working closely with Combat

:16:09. > :16:10.UK's campaigns. The British forces prepare to leave

:16:11. > :16:18.Helmand is to make sure those British forces prepare to leave

:16:19. > :16:19.not left to cope alone. A psychiatrist giving evidence at

:16:20. > :16:22.the murder A psychiatrist giving evidence at

:16:23. > :16:25.told the court that the athlete has had an anxiety disorder since

:16:26. > :16:26.childhood. Meryl Vorster said Pistorius's actions when he shot his

:16:27. > :16:28.girlfriend on Pistorius's actions when he shot his

:16:29. > :16:39.year should be seen in context Pistorius's actions when he shot his

:16:40. > :16:44.his anxiety. The athlete denies intentionally killing Reeva

:16:45. > :16:47.Steenkamp. The England manager Roy Hodgson has

:16:48. > :16:50.named his squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil. It's a young

:16:51. > :16:54.team with only four of the players over the age of 30. Among those left

:16:55. > :16:56.out are Ashley Cole who's announced his retirement from international

:16:57. > :16:59.football as a result and the Manchester United player Michael

:17:00. > :17:01.Carrick who says he's disappointed that he's not included. Our chief

:17:02. > :17:10.sports correspondent Dan Roan reports. England's wrote to Rio

:17:11. > :17:17.began, whereas, but at a car factory in Luton today. Roy Hodgson arrived

:17:18. > :17:21.to unveil the chosen few in whom he firmly believes. You believe the

:17:22. > :17:23.squad can win the World Cup? Of course I believe we can win

:17:24. > :17:27.otherwise what is the point of taking the squad if you don't have

:17:28. > :17:31.some believe they can win it? That they are empty words and I have

:17:32. > :17:39.never quite understood the importance people attached to that.

:17:40. > :17:44.I am certain that Brazil can win it. I am certain the Uruguay coach is

:17:45. > :17:49.certain they can win it. Why should we say otherwise? This is the 23 man

:17:50. > :17:56.squad Roy Hodgson has put his faith in. There is no place for Ashley

:17:57. > :18:01.Cole and his 137 caps, but there is experience from Wayne Rooney, Frank

:18:02. > :18:05.Lampard and Steven Gerrard. This election is defined by use.

:18:06. > :18:08.Teenagers like Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling rewarded for breakthrough

:18:09. > :18:12.seasons alongside 20-year-old Ross Barkley. The Everton midfielder has

:18:13. > :18:20.impressed Roy Hodgson with moments like this. What a goal from Ross

:18:21. > :18:25.Barkley! And takes his place in a squad stocked with raw talent and no

:18:26. > :18:28.shortage of enthusiasm. Getting picked to go is obviously a great

:18:29. > :18:33.achievement. Going to the World Cup will be the best thing to happen to

:18:34. > :18:37.me. Everybody dreams about doing it. After almost half a century of

:18:38. > :18:42.World Cup disappointment, most recently in South Africa four years

:18:43. > :18:47.ago, a level of expectation among England fans is muted but many will

:18:48. > :18:51.welcome Roy Hodgson's investment in a new generation. You have always

:18:52. > :18:55.got to go with youth. It gives you hope and belief. We can go with more

:18:56. > :18:58.optimism. This time last year there was concern about the young players

:18:59. > :19:04.and their development but so much to look forward to now. Raheem Sterling

:19:05. > :19:08.at Liverpool, great season. Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw. Such a young

:19:09. > :19:11.man and a great future ahead of him. At a time of mounting concern that

:19:12. > :19:16.the production line of English footballing talent is not what it

:19:17. > :19:26.once was, Roy Hodgson has given youth a chance. The squad announced

:19:27. > :19:29.here today can appear a gamble but in truth perhaps he had little

:19:30. > :19:35.choice. Dan Roan, BBC News, looting. Ed Miliband has announced that under

:19:36. > :19:40.Labour nobody would have to wait more than 48 hours for a GP

:19:41. > :19:46.appointment. This was introduced by Labour in 2000 but was scrapped by

:19:47. > :19:50.the coalition. Doctor Miliband was practising his

:19:51. > :19:56.bedside manner today. I came off my motorbike this morning. Sorry to

:19:57. > :19:59.hear it. The Labour leader came to Accident Emergency in Crewe to

:20:00. > :20:03.highlight a promise, to ease the pressure on hospitals by making it

:20:04. > :20:07.easier for people to see their GP. We have a lot of people that come in

:20:08. > :20:13.with a problem because they can't see their GP. Ed Miliband is

:20:14. > :20:19.pledging to restore one of the NHS targets which the coalition

:20:20. > :20:23.scrapped. What we are promising is that everybody should get same-day

:20:24. > :20:26.consultation with their GP surgery and if they have got an urgent

:20:27. > :20:31.situation to see the GP and then a guaranteed appointment within 48

:20:32. > :20:36.hours. What you call a guarantee for patients, doctors will see as a

:20:37. > :20:39.target and they hate targets. I think standards are important. The

:20:40. > :20:43.royal College of GPs when you floated this idea called it ill

:20:44. > :20:47.thought out and a knee jerk response. Some people may not like

:20:48. > :20:52.it but we have got to a situation where only 40% of people are seeing

:20:53. > :20:56.a GP within 48 hours. People say they are waiting more than a week to

:20:57. > :21:05.see the GP and that is wrong. We have got to do something about it.

:21:06. > :21:07.It is wrong. Are you in danger of saying not doctor knows best but

:21:08. > :21:09.Miliband knows best? No, because this has been carefully thought

:21:10. > :21:14.through. He has promised to find ?100 million to pay for the pledge,

:21:15. > :21:17.which the GPs have welcomed, but is doing it from within existing

:21:18. > :21:25.budgets. I asked the Labour leader about the pressure on him to spend

:21:26. > :21:28.more on wealth and raise taxes to do it. My responsibility coming in as

:21:29. > :21:32.Prime Minister is to make sure we spend resources and health service
