:00:00. > :00:00.America's worst terrorist attack since 9/11.

:00:00. > :00:08.The last of 49 bodies has been recovered from the Pulse

:00:09. > :00:14.The moment a party turned into an atrocity -

:00:15. > :00:22.the images shot by one of the victims.

:00:23. > :00:24.As some families wait to hear about their loved ones,

:00:25. > :00:30.Another ammunition, then change and another ammunition.

:00:31. > :00:35.I was like, this is a gun, this isn't fireworks.

:00:36. > :00:40.The US-born gunman pledged allegiance to IS, but Barack Obama

:00:41. > :00:43.says it wasn't a coordinated attack.

:00:44. > :00:47.There's no evidence so far that he was,

:00:48. > :00:55.There's no direct evidence that he was part of a larger plot.

:00:56. > :00:57.Also on tonight's programme, Labour heavyweights pitch

:00:58. > :01:04.Gordon Brown makes the case for staying, in a bid to get

:01:05. > :01:14.The England manager has this message for fans:

:01:15. > :01:16.I'm appealing, therefore, to all of our

:01:17. > :01:19.fans, and we appreciate your support at the matches, of course, but I'm

:01:20. > :01:26.appealing to you to stay out of trouble.

:01:27. > :01:34.Later in the hour on BBC News, we'll have action from the European

:01:35. > :01:36.Championship on euro 2016 Sportsday. We'll have news from the three home

:01:37. > :01:56.nations in France. Good evening from Orlando Florida,

:01:57. > :02:01.where a clearer picture is emerging of the worst mass shooting in recent

:02:02. > :02:04.American history. 49 people were shot dead in a gay

:02:05. > :02:16.nightclub, just a few metres We're getting a sense as time goes

:02:17. > :02:21.on of the police operation to stop the slaughter, stop the killing.

:02:22. > :02:25.It's now emerging that Omar Mateen was apparently cornered in one of

:02:26. > :02:30.the bathrooms in the club, under a hail of gunfire. Dozens of people

:02:31. > :02:35.then managed to escape. But the SWAT team that got in there to rescue

:02:36. > :02:39.those people only gained entry by punching hole into the side of one

:02:40. > :02:42.of the walls with an armoured vehicle. President Obama made it

:02:43. > :02:43.clear today that he did not believe the evidence does not suggest that

:02:44. > :02:48.this was part of a wider plot. Here's our North America editor,

:02:49. > :02:56.Jon Sopel. At a former school turned old

:02:57. > :03:01.people's home, the victims' families gathered. They came in their twos

:03:02. > :03:03.and threes, clinging to each other, bracing themselves for the worst

:03:04. > :03:09.possible news from the authorities. The process of identifying the

:03:10. > :03:12.bodies goes on. For the families, an unbearable wait. Meanwhile,

:03:13. > :03:17.survivors have been telling their stories. I want to say it lasted for

:03:18. > :03:20.about eight minutes. Like, he wasn't stopping. He kept on shooting and

:03:21. > :03:27.shooting and shooting and walking around. It was rapid fire. Then he'd

:03:28. > :03:31.like change. Another ammunition, then change, put another ammunition.

:03:32. > :03:36.I could smell the ammo in the air. I was like, this is a gun. This isn't

:03:37. > :03:41.fireworks. We need to leave. New video has emerged from envied the

:03:42. > :03:44.club. It's just after 2am and this reveller was filming on his

:03:45. > :03:50.smartphone as the first shots rang out. These are pictures of some of

:03:51. > :03:54.the young people who've been identified as having lost their

:03:55. > :03:59.lives. This is Eddie Justice. Had was texting his mother as he was

:04:00. > :04:02.trapped in the bathroom of the club. Christopher Linonen was unaccounted

:04:03. > :04:08.for. His mother spoke as she waited for news. When he was in high

:04:09. > :04:15.school, he started the gay-straight alliance. I've been so proud of him

:04:16. > :04:20.for that. Please let's all just get along. We're on this earth for such

:04:21. > :04:25.a short time. Today she found out that Christopher and his boyfriend

:04:26. > :04:30.didn't survive. It's unclear how the gunman entered. The club was packed.

:04:31. > :04:34.The main dance floor was hit first. On the patio area, the gunfire was

:04:35. > :04:39.heard over the loud music sm, managed to escape through the fence,

:04:40. > :04:43.even those badly injured. Others hid in the toilets, calling police and

:04:44. > :04:48.texting friends and family for help. It was the last time some families

:04:49. > :04:53.heard from their loved ones. Additional officers responded. Those

:04:54. > :04:58.additional officers made entry while the suspect was shooting and gauged

:04:59. > :05:04.in another -- engaged in a gun battle with the suspect, forced him

:05:05. > :05:09.to stop shooting and retreat to the bathroom, where we believe he had

:05:10. > :05:13.several hostages. At that time, we were able to save and rescue dozens

:05:14. > :05:17.and dozens of people who were injured and not injured and get them

:05:18. > :05:20.out of the club. So what of the killer, Omar Mateen? Today Barack

:05:21. > :05:27.Obama said that it seems he was acting alone. At this stage, we see

:05:28. > :05:36.no clear evidence that he was directed externally. It does appear

:05:37. > :05:40.that at the last minute, he announced allegiance to Isil. But

:05:41. > :05:45.there's no evidence, so far, that he was, in fact, directed. Mateen's

:05:46. > :05:53.father said he had no idea his son had such hatred in his heart. I'm

:05:54. > :06:01.very sad and I'm very mad and angry - why did he do that? To the

:06:02. > :06:07.homeland, those people died. They are our family. They got affected.

:06:08. > :06:13.The 52 people got injured. They're our family. The United States, my

:06:14. > :06:17.mentality is the United States, we are a family. In Washington a gay

:06:18. > :06:24.men's choir sang and vigils have been held across the country.

:06:25. > :06:29.# Were so gallantly streaming... # The pain in the gay community is

:06:30. > :06:31.acute and America's sense of insecurity and vulnerability has

:06:32. > :06:38.intensified still further. As authorities gave more details

:06:39. > :06:42.about the victims of the attacks, also emerging today were tales

:06:43. > :06:45.of those who survived. We're hearing tales of bravery and

:06:46. > :06:48.survival. Jon Sopel has been speaking

:06:49. > :06:50.to one man, Ivory McNeal, who managed to escape the club

:06:51. > :07:00.but lost six of his friends. All the music, just everything

:07:01. > :07:07.stops. Everything stops. All you hear is this loud noise, pop, pop,

:07:08. > :07:11.pop. Like one after another, like and it's just doesn't stop. It

:07:12. > :07:19.doesn't stop. Like it just keeps going. And so, I run out to an

:07:20. > :07:24.enclosed patio that was in the back. It's completely blocked off. You

:07:25. > :07:29.can't just run outside. Like the fences are really high. So I hide

:07:30. > :07:34.behind like patio furniture. How did you manage to get out? I hear like

:07:35. > :07:40.people coming in, so I poked my head out and I see like this SWAT team of

:07:41. > :07:45.people. So I come out, I'm seeing them. I put my hands up. They're all

:07:46. > :07:53.like holding up guns like they want to shoot me. Hey, I'm not part of

:07:54. > :07:56.this, like, please, help me. I guess after a second, they realised I'm

:07:57. > :08:00.not a part of it. So they kind of like grabbed me and get me to

:08:01. > :08:06.safety. And we're just like walking low and like, getting to safety. And

:08:07. > :08:16.what about your friends? Did everyone get out? People from the

:08:17. > :08:19.party died. People from the house warming party died. People from the

:08:20. > :08:22.house warming party were shot. My friends were shot. Do you know how

:08:23. > :08:31.many? No. You're still waiting to hear? I'm still waiting to hear. One

:08:32. > :08:35.tale of survival there. The roads around the nightclub here

:08:36. > :08:39.are cordoned off. There's a heavy police presence down there. They're

:08:40. > :08:43.combing the crime scene still. This is a heavily, built-up residential

:08:44. > :08:47.area. Some of those would died last night would be locals. Some would

:08:48. > :08:51.have come from further afield. This atrocity has touched a whole nation.

:08:52. > :08:55.America, once again, having to come together to mourn those who've died

:08:56. > :09:01.in yet another mass shooting. George, back to you.

:09:02. > :09:04.Several senior Labour Party figures have taken centre stage in the EU

:09:05. > :09:09.With growing concern that the Remain campaign has yet to ignite support

:09:10. > :09:11.among many Labour voters, the former Prime Minister,

:09:12. > :09:14.Gordon Brown, said they have most to gain if Britain stayed

:09:15. > :09:23.Here's our political editor, Laura Kuenssberg.

:09:24. > :09:30.Clearing the stage, the campaign to persuade you to vote in wants Tories

:09:31. > :09:34.out of the way, at least today. In place, the man who never quite

:09:35. > :09:37.convinces the public as Prime Minister. Some of you, I gather,

:09:38. > :09:45.were expecting David Cameron to be here. Can he persuade them now? You

:09:46. > :09:48.cannot succeed in securing financial stability or dealing with pollution.

:09:49. > :09:55.The European Union is not the cause of the problem. The European Union

:09:56. > :09:59.can be part of the solution. With the Tories divided, it's what almost

:10:00. > :10:03.every Labour MP would say are good reasons to stay. What sort of

:10:04. > :10:10.message would we send to the world on June 23? If we, Britain, decided

:10:11. > :10:13.to walk away from our nearest neighbours? This is not the Britain

:10:14. > :10:16.I know. This is not the Britain I believe in. This is not the Britain

:10:17. > :10:21.we should aspire to be. We should be a leader in Europe and not leaving

:10:22. > :10:24.it. It was meant to be David Cameron up there this afternoon. Instead

:10:25. > :10:29.it's the former Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. That tells you

:10:30. > :10:35.everything you need to know. The Remain camp is worried, deeply

:10:36. > :10:39.worried that their weeks of warnings have fallen on deaf ears with Labour

:10:40. > :10:44.voters. This week, different faces, different voices and a different

:10:45. > :10:49.message. What about immigration that troubles so many? Many Labour voters

:10:50. > :10:52.feel simply, when you were in power, too many people came here from other

:10:53. > :10:56.parts of Europe, that's why they think you lost touch. That's why

:10:57. > :11:00.many of them might vote to leave. You've got to get the balance right.

:11:01. > :11:04.We manage immigration. In the main, the immigrants who've come to our

:11:05. > :11:08.country are making a good contribution to our economy. What

:11:09. > :11:11.we've got to make sure is areas under pressure have public services

:11:12. > :11:14.properly provided for. Do you think you can make a difference in this

:11:15. > :11:19.vote? I'm not claiming I have any ability to make a huge difference on

:11:20. > :11:23.my own. Together we can show that we can get things done. The occasional

:11:24. > :11:27.Labour MP is enjoying being on the other side, sharing the trail with

:11:28. > :11:32.Boris Johnson. And with new predictions today that immigration

:11:33. > :11:36.will go up and up for decades, Outers claimed Gordon Brown's

:11:37. > :11:41.appearance shows they might win. I can tell what the Remain side are a

:11:42. > :11:47.bit rattled, my friends, because they had a re-launch this morning.

:11:48. > :11:51.They decided to use Gordon Brown to inject some dynamism into

:11:52. > :11:55.proceedings, which shows the measure of the panic they're in. They're

:11:56. > :11:59.resorting to more and more scare stories, more and more misery, more

:12:00. > :12:03.and more discussion of the end of civilisation as we know it. Do we

:12:04. > :12:08.believe this doom mongering? Absolutely not. All David Cameron's

:12:09. > :12:11.warnings seem not enough. You'll see more of him and more of them. This

:12:12. > :12:15.was not Remain's plan. Football now, and six England fans

:12:16. > :12:18.have been jailed in Marseilles, following the violence

:12:19. > :12:20.during the opening But a French official has described

:12:21. > :12:25.some of the Russians involved Today the England manager,

:12:26. > :12:29.Roy Hodgson, and captain, Wayne Rooney, have appealed to fans

:12:30. > :12:32.to stay out of trouble. England have been trying

:12:33. > :12:39.to focus on their football, but with their threat of expulsion

:12:40. > :12:46.from Euro 2016 hanging over them, today coach and captain had this

:12:47. > :12:48.message for the supporters: I'd like to ask the fans, please, if

:12:49. > :12:51.you don't And for the fans with tickets,

:12:52. > :12:56.be safe, be sensible and continue with your great support

:12:57. > :12:58.for the players. I'm obviously very concerned

:12:59. > :13:00.about the threat which is now hanging over us and the sanctions

:13:01. > :13:03.that could possibly be imposed We worked very hard to get here,

:13:04. > :13:07.and we really desperately I'm appealing therefore

:13:08. > :13:12.to all of our fans - and we appreciate your support

:13:13. > :13:14.at the matches, of course - but I'm appealing to you to

:13:15. > :13:19.stay out of trouble. UEFA's warned England and Russia

:13:20. > :13:22.they'll both be thrown out of the tournament if there's any

:13:23. > :13:25.repeat of the scenes in Marseille. The French authorities say

:13:26. > :13:27.a hard-core group of Russian thugs TRANSLATION: There are 100,

:13:28. > :13:35.150 people who have a reputation They were very quick

:13:36. > :13:49.and very violent. The weekend's violence has cast

:13:50. > :13:51.a shadow over a tournament The trouble is raising serious

:13:52. > :13:56.questions about the effectiveness of the policing, the segregation

:13:57. > :13:58.of fans and stewarding inside the stadium and UEFA's

:13:59. > :14:01.scheduling of certain matches England came close to being kicked

:14:02. > :14:09.out of Euro 2000 after fans went on the rampage in Charleroi,

:14:10. > :14:13.but some believe they're now In my view, a team has never been

:14:14. > :14:19.as close as it is today of being thrown out a major

:14:20. > :14:22.football tournament. UEFA are under huge pressure

:14:23. > :14:28.because of the threat of terrorism, which has only grown over the past

:14:29. > :14:33.20 years, to be seen Yesterday, more disorder

:14:34. > :14:38.for the authorities to contend with, With Russia playing there

:14:39. > :14:44.on Wednesday, and England fans using it as a base for the match

:14:45. > :14:47.against Wales in nearby Lens the following day, the trouble

:14:48. > :15:03.could be far from over. The weather is stuck on repeat for

:15:04. > :15:07.some, but not for all. A beautiful day today across the Northern Isles

:15:08. > :15:12.and up into Aberdeenshire, not a cloud in the sky. That really was

:15:13. > :15:16.the exception. Most of us had this leaden looking skies. We waited for

:15:17. > :15:21.the showers and when they arrived they lingered. Across south-west

:15:22. > :15:25.Scotland, stretching into north-west England, through the Peaks and East

:15:26. > :15:28.Midlands, East Anglia. In the last hour thundery down pours across the

:15:29. > :15:32.south-east as well. They're going to linger through the night. Some of

:15:33. > :15:35.them pretty slow moving. There'll be a lot of surface water and spray and

:15:36. > :15:39.some poor visibility, particularly to higher ground, mist and fog to

:15:40. > :15:44.greet us first thing. Clearer skies in the far west of Scotland. Maybe a

:15:45. > :15:48.little fresher here. That's where we're likely to see the best of the

:15:49. > :15:51.sunshine tomorrow. Different story into Aberdeenshire - cloud and rain

:15:52. > :15:56.arrives. Some of that is persistent into the afternoon. For England and

:15:57. > :15:59.Wales, it's same old, same old - sunny spells, scattered showers,

:16:00. > :16:02.some heavy and thundery. If you dodge the showers, you are keep the

:16:03. > :16:06.sunshine, highs of around 20 degrees. Aer feel into the

:16:07. > :16:10.north-east. Low pressure remains in the driving seat. Little change

:16:11. > :16:14.through this week. Actually, we could see some persistent rain

:16:15. > :16:19.lingering across certain tral and southern Scotland with a

:16:20. > :16:23.north-easterly flow making it feel chilly. Scattered showers again,

:16:24. > :16:26.some of those potent if you catch them. If you dodge them you keep the

:16:27. > :16:28.sunshine. Temperatures peaking at 19 degrees. Cooler to the north-east

:16:29. > :16:33.with that north-easterly flow. A reminder of our main story:

:16:34. > :16:39.Survivors of the Orlando mass -- President Obama says the killer

:16:40. > :16:42.responsible for the mass shooting in Orlando was not part of a larger

:16:43. > :16:45.plot. Some families are still waiting for news of their retifrz.

:16:46. > :16:48.Tonight, cities around the world are demonstrating their solidarity.

:16:49. > :16:50.This was Glasgow, where 600 people gathered to remember those who died.

:16:51. > :17:04.And this was Soho in Central London, where people released balloons

:17:05. > :17:07.It's time to join the BBC's news teams where you are.
