:00:19. > :00:22.The attack took place in the village of Birstall, where

:00:23. > :00:31.Eye witnesses say the MP was shot and stabbed.

:00:32. > :00:34.She died of her injuries at Leeds General Infirmary.

:00:35. > :00:37.Jo was attacked by a man who inflicted serious

:00:38. > :00:42.Subsequently, there was a further attack on a 77-year-old man

:00:43. > :00:49.nearby, who sustained injuries which were non-life-threatening.

:00:50. > :00:51.A 52-year-old man has been arrested at the scene.

:00:52. > :01:11.This afternoon, Jo Cox's husband Brendan tweeted his picture

:01:12. > :01:15.She was an MP, the great campaigning MP,

:01:16. > :01:17.with huge compassion, a big heart and people

:01:18. > :01:20.are going to be very, very sad at what has happened.

:01:21. > :01:27.Sir Cliff Richard hits out after sexual abuse

:01:41. > :01:45.It takes a last minute goal but England come from behind

:01:46. > :01:56.We will be bringing you the latest coverage of the shooting of Jo Cox,

:01:57. > :02:11.shot outside her constituency office in West Yorkshire.

:02:12. > :02:14.Good evening and welcome to the BBC News at Six.

:02:15. > :02:17.David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn have led the tributes to Jo Cox,

:02:18. > :02:21.the Labour MP who's been killed in her West Yorkshire constituency.

:02:22. > :02:26.All EU referendum campaigning has been suspended as a mark of respect.

:02:27. > :02:28.Jo Cox was attacked in the village of Birstall, near Leeds,

:02:29. > :02:33.Eye witnesses say she was shot and stabbed and later

:02:34. > :02:36.died of her injuries at Leeds General Infirmary.

:02:37. > :02:52.Our Special Correspondent, Ed Thomas, is in Birstall now.

:02:53. > :02:59.Right now, this whole town is cordoned off and forensic teams are

:03:00. > :03:02.still at the place where Jo Cox was attacked. You can still see her

:03:03. > :03:07.handbag and shoes she only managed to walk a few yards from the library

:03:08. > :03:10.where she was holding surgery meteors, speaking to her

:03:11. > :03:17.constituents before she was shot and stabbed. It is not just take the

:03:18. > :03:21.life of an MP but the mother of two young children.

:03:22. > :03:27.This morning, Birstall was a quiet great Yorkshire town for that

:03:28. > :03:32.narrative is full of armed police, fear and unanswered questions. Why

:03:33. > :03:38.was it local MP, Jo Cox, shot and stabbed in the middle of the day? He

:03:39. > :03:44.pulled the gun out and then went like that with it and fired one

:03:45. > :03:51.shot. This man watched the attack on his local MP. It never crossed your

:03:52. > :03:57.mind that it was going to be the MP falling on the floor and bleeding.

:03:58. > :04:01.Jo Cox had been stabbed and shot she was rushed to Leeds General

:04:02. > :04:04.infirmary. Today at five p.m., West Yorkshire Police confirmed she had

:04:05. > :04:13.died, despite efforts to save her life. Just before one o'clock today,

:04:14. > :04:18.Jo Cox was attacked in market Street, Birstall. I am very sad to

:04:19. > :04:25.have to report she has died as a result of her injuries. My heart

:04:26. > :04:30.goes out to the husband of Jo Cox, Brendan, her chewed children, family

:04:31. > :04:34.and friends. The pain they must now be enduring is unimaginable. -- her

:04:35. > :04:38.two children. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this

:04:39. > :04:42.terrible time. Within minutes of this footage was filmed close by.

:04:43. > :04:48.The man being arrested is called Tommy. All day, police forensic

:04:49. > :04:52.teams searched his home. Neighbours are struggling to understand what

:04:53. > :05:01.happened. Did you see him this morning? Yes. Did he appeared calm?

:05:02. > :05:07.He walked straight past like he usually does. He likes gardening. A

:05:08. > :05:14.friendly neighbour? A man of few words. Jo Cox had only been an MP

:05:15. > :05:18.for over a year. Her reputation was growing, accessible and was willing

:05:19. > :05:22.to listen full minutes before her attack she was in her local library,

:05:23. > :05:28.talking and trying to help local constituents. There you down to

:05:29. > :05:34.earth, a loving, caring person that you could a question and she would

:05:35. > :05:40.answer you honestly. She was lucky. Police need answers. Why did this

:05:41. > :05:44.happen and what was the motivation? Jo Cox's husband released this

:05:45. > :05:46.picture of his wife. Not only an MP but a mother to two young children,

:05:47. > :05:57.a reminder of what has been taken. George, in the past five minutes we

:05:58. > :06:01.have had a message from Brendan Cox, a tribute to his wife. He said she

:06:02. > :06:06.would have wanted to things above all else to happen now. One, that

:06:07. > :06:11.our precious children are bathed in love and that we all unite to fight

:06:12. > :06:17.against the hatred that killed her. Hate does not have the creed, race

:06:18. > :06:21.or religion. It is poisonous. The voice of Brendan Cox tonight as

:06:22. > :06:22.police try to find out what happened and why this MP was shot dead in

:06:23. > :06:26.broad daylight. Jo Cox was elected to

:06:27. > :06:28.the constituency of Batley The 41-year-old mother of two

:06:29. > :06:32.was a former aid worker who quickly made her mark

:06:33. > :06:34.in the House of Commons. Our political correspondent,

:06:35. > :06:52.Carole Walker, looks back Jo Cox was one of 53 Labour MPs

:06:53. > :06:57.newly elected in 2015. She swiftly made a name for herself as a rising

:06:58. > :07:01.star, hugely popular. Friends and colleagues of all parties are

:07:02. > :07:06.shocked and deeply saddened at the news of her death. Tonight, the

:07:07. > :07:13.Prime Minister led the tributes. This is tragic and dreadful news. My

:07:14. > :07:19.thoughts are with Birstall's husband, the two children and their

:07:20. > :07:24.wider family. -- Jo's husband. She was a great campaigning MP with huge

:07:25. > :07:28.compassion and a big heart. People are going to be very, very sad at

:07:29. > :07:34.what has happened. Dreadful, dreadful news. We need to come

:07:35. > :07:40.together and express our deepest condolences to Jo and her family. We

:07:41. > :07:43.have lost a wonderful woman, a wonderful Member of Parliament. Our

:07:44. > :07:50.democracy will go on. Her work will go on. It is just over a year since

:07:51. > :07:55.Jo Cox was sworn in as MP. Born and raised locally, she had studied at

:07:56. > :07:59.Cambridge was the first in her family to graduate from university.

:08:00. > :08:05.Before she entered Parliament, Jo Cox was a passionate, charity

:08:06. > :08:09.worker. She had spent a decade in a variety of roles with Oxfam. At

:08:10. > :08:14.Westminster, she continued to campaign on international to the and

:08:15. > :08:19.and foreign policy. This is somebody who had spent her whole career, not

:08:20. > :08:23.in a bubble somewhere, but really out in the field, working for Oxfam,

:08:24. > :08:33.of course. Absolutely understanding how things work in the real world. I

:08:34. > :08:40.share an office with Jo. Parliament will be a much poorer place. She

:08:41. > :08:44.described herself as a proud, Yorkshire lass. In London, Cilic

:08:45. > :08:54.with her husband and children in a barge on the Thames. -- living with

:08:55. > :08:59.her husband. From the outset, her honesty and determination won her

:09:00. > :09:04.huge respect. I have decided I will going to approach being a Member of

:09:05. > :09:08.Parliament with cynicism and humour. It is humbling and an amazing

:09:09. > :09:14.building. Other not let it intimidating me. She certainly did

:09:15. > :09:20.not. Can the Prime Minister tell the House as to whether he has led

:09:21. > :09:24.public opinion or followed it? Away from Westminster, surgeries and open

:09:25. > :09:29.meetings are an essential part of the work of MPs. The EU referendum

:09:30. > :09:33.campaigning was suspended today in a mark of respect. Several MPs have

:09:34. > :09:36.said the tragic death of a young and talented colleague must not be

:09:37. > :09:44.allowed to harm the process of democracy.

:09:45. > :09:50.With me now is the BBC's Nick Robinson.

:09:51. > :09:56.From the word go, and active MP. It is easy to imagine that these words

:09:57. > :10:01.we have heard from the Prime Minister about her being committed

:10:02. > :10:07.and caring, the promised in the different political party, the

:10:08. > :10:15.Conservative MP party -- the Conservative Party, she was a Labour

:10:16. > :10:19.MP. MPs are respected when they are seen to fight for others, to care

:10:20. > :10:23.for others, to put others before their own personal interests and

:10:24. > :10:28.their career. Whether you agreed with Jo Cox on everything or not, no

:10:29. > :10:37.ones I know in politics doubts at first and foremost she was in

:10:38. > :10:42.politics or the right thing. This strikes at the heart of what MPs are

:10:43. > :10:46.supposed to do. People like me are paid to find the right words for

:10:47. > :10:51.occasions like these. To describe, analyse and explain. I do not know I

:10:52. > :10:59.can do it on a day like this. I do not know I can capture the shock for

:11:00. > :11:03.people whose world is politics. MPs are so often demonised for living

:11:04. > :11:06.separate lives from the rest of us. The truth that many people do not

:11:07. > :11:10.want to know is they lived very similar lives were in our

:11:11. > :11:14.communities, on our streets, worrying about the same things. They

:11:15. > :11:19.do one thing that we do not do, they open themselves up to anybody who

:11:20. > :11:22.can come to what is called a constituency surgery with a

:11:23. > :11:26.grievance. They simply open the door of their local school, library or

:11:27. > :11:32.political office and say, come and tell me what you think and they put

:11:33. > :11:38.themselves, as we discover, at terrible risk. That is the beauty of

:11:39. > :11:43.our system in a way, the open door. We only see the senior politicians

:11:44. > :11:47.and the armoured cars, the police, the rows of spin doctors. Most

:11:48. > :11:52.elected representatives were most days, most of the time, are entirely

:11:53. > :11:56.unprotected and most of the time they are wanting to meet the people

:11:57. > :12:01.who elect them and say, anything you like to to me. Come and see me on

:12:02. > :12:06.your terms, not on mine, as equals. As we have seen here, it opens

:12:07. > :12:11.themselves up to really terrible danger. The horror that people will

:12:12. > :12:15.feel tonight, I think, is not just the horror at this case but the

:12:16. > :12:16.awful sense they do not want that the special thing about our

:12:17. > :12:21.democracy to change. Sir Cliff Richard will not face any

:12:22. > :12:25.charges over allegations of sexual The Crown Prosecution Service

:12:26. > :12:28.announced today that there was insufficient evidence

:12:29. > :12:30.to press charges. Sir Cliff, who's 75,

:12:31. > :12:34.said he was thrilled but angry that he'd been publicly

:12:35. > :12:36.named at the beginning He said he'd been hung

:12:37. > :12:41.out like "live bait". Our home affairs correspondent,

:12:42. > :12:53.Tom Symonds, reports. Live, on television. That is how the

:12:54. > :12:58.world found out that Sir Cliff Richard was under investigation. His

:12:59. > :13:02.home raided by detectives. Watching from Portugal, as they went through

:13:03. > :13:08.his possessions, it is also how he found out. The BBC is bitterly

:13:09. > :13:11.criticised for this coverage. Now, nearly two years later, it is over.

:13:12. > :13:37.No prosecution, insufficient evidence. Sir Cliff's statement...

:13:38. > :13:46.One of his closest friends says it has dominated his life. I think it

:13:47. > :13:49.has been torture for him. He has been very badly affected mentally

:13:50. > :13:55.because he had Tommy that every time he went to bed, it was the last

:13:56. > :14:03.thing on his mind. Would I get News today that I had been cleared? Sir

:14:04. > :14:08.Cliff was accused of abusing one boy during this Christian stadium tour

:14:09. > :14:13.in 1985. Prosecutors also considered another three cases. Being a

:14:14. > :14:18.Christian has become the most important part of my life. A life

:14:19. > :14:22.and reputation built from the start and a clean cut image and singing in

:14:23. > :14:28.the rain at Wimbledon on public affection. All of this was put in

:14:29. > :14:33.jeopardy, though not for him. It was a big shock. Deep down, I and many

:14:34. > :14:38.other fans did not believe it. We thought it was a fabricated story.

:14:39. > :14:41.When the allegations are sexual, reputations are more easily damaged

:14:42. > :14:43.but some are calling for a ban in publishing the name of those accused

:14:44. > :14:58.until they are charged. The Bank of England has issued a new

:14:59. > :15:04.warning about if Britain votes to leave the European Union.

:15:05. > :15:09.It warned that businesses are putting off major economic decisions

:15:10. > :15:10.and said the uncertainty was affecting the stability of the

:15:11. > :15:14.pound. This morning, before

:15:15. > :15:16.news broke of the attack on the Labour MP Jo Cox,

:15:17. > :15:19.The Leave and Remain campaigns Boris Johnson visited a fish

:15:20. > :15:22.processing factory in Norfolk, where he dismissed claims that

:15:23. > :15:25.Britain's economy will be at risk He accused the Remain campaign

:15:26. > :15:29.of creating "propaganda" that was The Labour Party leader

:15:30. > :15:33.Jeremy Corbyn visited the Rolls Royce factory

:15:34. > :15:35.in Rotherham, to campaign for Britain to remain

:15:36. > :15:39.in the European Union. He said that EU workers had

:15:40. > :15:41.benefited the economy, but extra funding must be given

:15:42. > :15:44.to areas under strain from high Ukip has rejected accusations

:15:45. > :15:52.of racism, after unveiling a poster showing a queue of migrants

:15:53. > :15:54.at Europe's border, The poster has been criticised

:15:55. > :15:59.by all the main parties. The Remain campaign said it had

:16:00. > :16:01.nothing to do with EU migration and was exploiting the misery of

:16:02. > :16:12.refugees fleeing Syria's civil war. The Labour MP Jo Cox has died

:16:13. > :16:16.after she was attacked Referendum campaigning

:16:17. > :16:31.has been suspended. England fans have been celebrating,

:16:32. > :16:36.after their team was Mac last-minute victory over Wales at Euro 2016.

:16:37. > :16:44.At six 30p, we will be joining our look North team to feature the very

:16:45. > :16:48.latest coverage of the shooting of the Labour MP, Jo Cox, who was

:16:49. > :16:53.attacked outside her constituency office in West Yorkshire.

:16:54. > :16:56.England versus Wales was billed as the most significant home nations

:16:57. > :17:02.England came out on top, beating Wales 2-1 in their Euro 2016

:17:03. > :17:04.match this afternoon, but it took a last-minute,

:17:05. > :17:09.Let's go live now to our Sports Editor, Dan Roan,

:17:10. > :17:16.who watched the action in Lens in Northern France.

:17:17. > :17:22.Brits abroad. They had crossed the Channel in their tens of thousands

:17:23. > :17:27.for the kind of international derby that comes round all too rarely.

:17:28. > :17:30.Ever since the draw was made, this game has stirred the emotions and

:17:31. > :17:34.captured the imagination. A resurgent Wales in tent on enjoying

:17:35. > :17:40.the moment in this, their first major championship for 58 years,

:17:41. > :17:44.against England, from tournament rarely enjoyable. Spurning chances

:17:45. > :17:46.had cost them dear in their opening game, and so it continued. Raheem

:17:47. > :17:52.Sterling misfiring when it looked easier score. And then Chris

:17:53. > :17:57.Smalling heading just wide. The lack of ruthlessness all. Wales were

:17:58. > :18:01.hanging on, but knew that in Gareth Bale they had someone very special,

:18:02. > :18:08.and when his chance came, he made it count. , day two chest puffed out,

:18:09. > :18:13.and strikes brilliantly! Goalkeeper Joe Hart badly at fault for the goal

:18:14. > :18:19.but the world most expensive player had proved his worth once again.

:18:20. > :18:22.Manager Roy Hodgson had seen enough. Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy

:18:23. > :18:27.brought on at half-time. Both would have an impact. First, Vardy, the

:18:28. > :18:31.substitute doing for his country what he has done all season for

:18:32. > :18:37.Leicester City. England revitalised, and on level terms. Yet another

:18:38. > :18:40.striker was introduced, this time youngster Marcus Rashford. But it

:18:41. > :18:46.was Sturridge that would have the final word. His stoppage time goal

:18:47. > :18:53.breaking Welsh hearts, and sealing the victory that England had craved.

:18:54. > :18:57.Hodgson's gamble and his team's perseverance had paid off in

:18:58. > :19:02.dramatic fashion. It's amazing, that we play so well against Russia, and

:19:03. > :19:07.lose in the 93rd minute. And today we worked so hard on the second

:19:08. > :19:12.half, we push and push and push, and it takes until the 92nd minute for

:19:13. > :19:16.us to get our goal. So does goes to show, I suppose, as people try to

:19:17. > :19:20.tell us, things to even out, but it is very rare to see them even out of

:19:21. > :19:25.the space of two games. We give everything, like we always do. As I

:19:26. > :19:29.said before, if we go out and get 100% and have no regrets then we

:19:30. > :19:33.can't do anything more. Obviously, we are very disappointed at the

:19:34. > :19:38.moment, but inside we still full strong, we still feel happy, we are

:19:39. > :19:43.still enjoying the experience. We still have one game to go and the

:19:44. > :19:47.tournament is not over yet. Wales will feel hard done by and must now

:19:48. > :19:54.regather, but comeback complete, it is England whose Euro 2016 campaign

:19:55. > :19:58.now has liftoff. That was a major win for England, their first, would

:19:59. > :20:02.you believe, in a major championship for four years. Their first having

:20:03. > :20:07.been behind at half-time in a major tournament ever. At half-time, make

:20:08. > :20:13.no mistake, Roy Hodgson's job was hanging by a thread. Now, no doubt,

:20:14. > :20:20.he will be hailed as something of a genius, because those substitutions

:20:21. > :20:24.swung the game in England's favour. It paid off with spectacular

:20:25. > :20:28.fashion. They now topped group B, England, and if they just get a draw

:20:29. > :20:32.against Slovakia in their final group game on Monday, they will be

:20:33. > :20:36.guaranteed of qualification to the knockout stages. Not all is lost

:20:37. > :20:39.either for Wales, there is every chance both teams will still make it

:20:40. > :20:43.through the group stage. They need to beat Russia, though, to be sure

:20:44. > :20:48.of a top two place in the group, Chris Coleman's men. There was as

:20:49. > :20:52.much focus perhaps off the field as there was on it, going into this all

:20:53. > :20:56.British occasion, because of the violent scenes in Marseille

:20:57. > :21:00.involving England and Russia fans last weekend, and further clashes

:21:01. > :21:03.overnight in nearby Lille, where tens of thousands of British fans

:21:04. > :21:08.have been staying. Much scrutiny on their behaviour today. My colleague

:21:09. > :21:14.has spent the day but the fans here in Lens. With a focus as much on the

:21:15. > :21:20.fans as the football, the streets of Lens have been loud but largely

:21:21. > :21:25.friendly. A 48 hour alcohol ban in shops was meant to keep things calm,

:21:26. > :21:31.but at the bars, tears flowed freely, as the French security

:21:32. > :21:34.services looked on. Billed as a game between brothers, the sibling

:21:35. > :21:39.rivalry was real for Dave and Andy, both desperate to take the bragging

:21:40. > :21:46.rights. We are sending you home today, boy. You will be taking me

:21:47. > :21:49.home after we beat you! So who would go home happy? When Gareth Bale

:21:50. > :21:53.stepped up, Welsh supporters have their breath and let it rule. All

:21:54. > :22:01.the way from France back to Cardiff and beyond. But then time for

:22:02. > :22:05.England to celebrate. Jamie Vardy's equaliser raised the decibel level

:22:06. > :22:11.in Lille, and then in Lens, last-minute drama. English hopes

:22:12. > :22:17.suddenly sent sky-high. Back in London, the reaction was the same.

:22:18. > :22:20.For Welsh fans, a sobering taste of what tournament football can be

:22:21. > :22:27.like, but for England supporters, the party has finally started. My

:22:28. > :22:30.throat hurts, my throat is killing. An unbelievable feeling, when

:22:31. > :22:37.Sturridge scored that goal, and Vardy scored. Everyone which is

:22:38. > :22:42.going mad, jumping up and down. But you don't mind it? No! Kuhn a bit of

:22:43. > :22:49.a sucker punch, it was hard to take, but we almost do that it was coming.

:22:50. > :22:52.Obviously a bit dejected, but if you look at the bigger picture, we still

:22:53. > :22:57.have one game to go. We didn't really have to win today or even

:22:58. > :23:00.draw. For both sets of fans, it is on to the next one, hoping the

:23:01. > :23:09.headlines will now remain about what happens on the pitch. England and

:23:10. > :23:18.Wales not the only home nations in action today. Northern Ireland have

:23:19. > :23:21.a huge match as you can see now in Lyon, in groups see, against

:23:22. > :23:32.Ukraine. They need a result. As bronze and a half has put them 1-0

:23:33. > :23:35.up. Since that goal, the match has been temporarily suspended because

:23:36. > :23:39.of adverse weather conditions, but the players are back out on the

:23:40. > :23:42.pitch. Northern Ireland I believe still have the lead, and if they

:23:43. > :23:47.could hang on, that would be a massive, massive result for them.

:23:48. > :23:51.Meanwhile, back here in Lens, the sun was very much shining on England

:23:52. > :23:56.today, thanks to that last-gasp, dramatic stoppage time winner by

:23:57. > :23:59.Daniel Sturridge. Roy Hodgson's substitutions pain. Wales will find

:24:00. > :24:00.it very hard to take that they are still very much in this competition

:24:01. > :24:08.too. We return now to our top story -

:24:09. > :24:22.the death of the MP Jo Cox. We heard from local people, this was

:24:23. > :24:26.close to them, what is the mood now? Every so often, people just walk up

:24:27. > :24:31.to the cord on here, a car will pull up, people will say, what is going

:24:32. > :24:35.on, what is all this about? When you say your local MP Jo Cox has been

:24:36. > :24:39.shot dead in daylight, there is absolute disbelief on their faces.

:24:40. > :24:45.They just do not understand how and why this has happened here. And she

:24:46. > :24:48.might only have been an MP for just over a year in this small, West

:24:49. > :24:52.Yorkshire town, but she was well-known, she was accessible. That

:24:53. > :24:55.is why she was in the library here, speaking to people, hearing what

:24:56. > :24:58.problems people had forced up she wanted to make a difference to

:24:59. > :25:02.people's lives. That has been said to me again and again. And there is

:25:03. > :25:10.a second thing going on here, this is a busy market town, when those

:25:11. > :25:13.shots rang out 50 yards behind me, this place was packed, there were

:25:14. > :25:17.people here and they went running. We have spoken to two of those

:25:18. > :25:21.people and they have been left absolutely terrified about what they

:25:22. > :25:26.saw and what they heard. The focus now, as you can see from the

:25:27. > :25:29.forensic officers behind me, is to gather evidence, find clues, speak

:25:30. > :25:32.to the 52-year-old man who has been arrested to try to understand, to

:25:33. > :25:38.make sense of what has happened here. We will leave it there. Thank

:25:39. > :25:44.you very much. Nick Robinson is back with me. We cannot escape the fact,

:25:45. > :25:49.can make, that this happened in the middle of a major political

:25:50. > :25:53.campaign. That's right, in the middle of this referendum campaign,

:25:54. > :25:58.indeed, only has a week to go. Instantly, all sides have suspended

:25:59. > :26:02.that campaign, leave and remain, but it is inevitable that the questions

:26:03. > :26:07.around this attack will start a future in politics when it resumes

:26:08. > :26:12.again, as it will pretty soon. We don't know the exact circumstances,

:26:13. > :26:15.we know that the police say it was localised, a code that it was not

:26:16. > :26:19.part of some global terror threat. There were some suggestions around

:26:20. > :26:23.that there was perhaps some politics involved in it. Much too early to

:26:24. > :26:29.know if any of that is true. If any of it is true, though, it is perhaps

:26:30. > :26:36.a reminder that this of all times is a point where our country faces one

:26:37. > :26:42.of the biggest aquatic choices in either of -- democratic choices, and

:26:43. > :26:46.realising that anger and fury and rage are never the same thing as

:26:47. > :26:50.belief, not the same thing as sincerity, not the same thing as

:26:51. > :26:55.passion. We don't know why Jo Cox died. We do know it was a terrible

:26:56. > :27:00.tragedy for a member of Parliament, for a mother, for a woman who fought

:27:01. > :27:06.for other people. But we do know, whether we agreed or disagreed with

:27:07. > :27:12.her, she deserved, our elected representatives, deserve respect.

:27:13. > :27:17.Thank you very much. It is time for the weather now with Louise Lear.

:27:18. > :27:21.Another day when the shower clouds gathered, and when they came they

:27:22. > :27:26.came with intensity. As you can see from this Weather Watchers picture,

:27:27. > :27:31.localised flooding, a couple of inches of rain. The shower is

:27:32. > :27:36.gathered and with some thundery activity, especially from north-west

:27:37. > :27:39.England and into parts of Lincolnshire. The showers will start

:27:40. > :27:43.to ease in intensity and they will start to become lighter in nature as

:27:44. > :27:48.we go through the overnight period. But at the same time we keep a lot

:27:49. > :27:50.of low cloud, drizzly outbreaks of rain across eastern Scotland, and

:27:51. > :27:55.there will be some patchy fog to greet us first thing. That cloud and

:27:56. > :27:58.drizzly rain continues to drift south and east across eastern

:27:59. > :28:02.Scotland and North East England. The best of the brighter weather looks

:28:03. > :28:05.likely to be into western Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern

:28:06. > :28:09.England. Some showers across England and Wales, but a bit further south

:28:10. > :28:13.and east than we have seen in recent days, some of them really quite

:28:14. > :28:17.heavy and thundery, with the potential for some localised flash

:28:18. > :28:20.flooding. Top temperatures 17 to 19 degrees, but some of them quite

:28:21. > :28:25.nasty indeed, so we will need to keep a close eye on those full stop

:28:26. > :28:28.a little bit brighter and drier across Northern Ireland and western

:28:29. > :28:32.Scotland. Still a little bit disappointed in terms of the feel of

:28:33. > :28:37.things, 14 or 15 degrees, only around 11 or 12 if you keep the

:28:38. > :28:40.cloud and rain. Conditions will settle down to the weekend, drive or

:28:41. > :28:45.most of us, and some spells of sunshine around as well. We could

:28:46. > :28:47.start off with a little bit of showery rain just fringing the

:28:48. > :28:52.Southeast first thing on Saturday, but this ridge of high pressure will

:28:53. > :28:56.build and quieten things down quite nicely, so I expect some sunny

:28:57. > :29:03.spells around, even brightening up in the south-east on Sunday with

:29:04. > :29:10.highs of 20 degrees. Player-macro a reminder of the main story today.

:29:11. > :29:16.Labour MP Jo Cox was killed after she was attacked in her West

:29:17. > :29:18.Yorkshire constituency. Referendum campaigning has been suspended.

:29:19. > :29:22.That's all from the BBC News at Six - so it's goodbye from me -

:29:23. > :29:25.and on BBC One, we now join the BBC's news teams where you are.
