:22:53. > :22:57.have one game to go. We didn't really have to win today or even
:22:58. > :23:00.draw. For both sets of fans, it is on to the next one, hoping the
:23:01. > :23:09.headlines will now remain about what happens on the pitch. England and
:23:10. > :23:18.Wales not the only home nations in action today. Northern Ireland have
:23:19. > :23:21.a huge match as you can see now in Lyon, in groups see, against
:23:22. > :23:32.Ukraine. They need a result. As bronze and a half has put them 1-0
:23:33. > :23:35.up. Since that goal, the match has been temporarily suspended because
:23:36. > :23:39.of adverse weather conditions, but the players are back out on the
:23:40. > :23:42.pitch. Northern Ireland I believe still have the lead, and if they
:23:43. > :23:47.could hang on, that would be a massive, massive result for them.
:23:48. > :23:51.Meanwhile, back here in Lens, the sun was very much shining on England
:23:52. > :23:56.today, thanks to that last-gasp, dramatic stoppage time winner by
:23:57. > :23:59.Daniel Sturridge. Roy Hodgson's substitutions pain. Wales will find
:24:00. > :24:00.it very hard to take that they are still very much in this competition
:24:01. > :24:08.too. We return now to our top story -
:24:09. > :24:22.the death of the MP Jo Cox. We heard from local people, this was
:24:23. > :24:26.close to them, what is the mood now? Every so often, people just walk up
:24:27. > :24:31.to the cord on here, a car will pull up, people will say, what is going
:24:32. > :24:35.on, what is all this about? When you say your local MP Jo Cox has been
:24:36. > :24:39.shot dead in daylight, there is absolute disbelief on their faces.
:24:40. > :24:45.They just do not understand how and why this has happened here. And she
:24:46. > :24:48.might only have been an MP for just over a year in this small, West
:24:49. > :24:52.Yorkshire town, but she was well-known, she was accessible. That
:24:53. > :24:55.is why she was in the library here, speaking to people, hearing what
:24:56. > :24:58.problems people had forced up she wanted to make a difference to
:24:59. > :25:02.people's lives. That has been said to me again and again. And there is
:25:03. > :25:10.a second thing going on here, this is a busy market town, when those
:25:11. > :25:13.shots rang out 50 yards behind me, this place was packed, there were
:25:14. > :25:17.people here and they went running. We have spoken to two of those
:25:18. > :25:21.people and they have been left absolutely terrified about what they
:25:22. > :25:26.saw and what they heard. The focus now, as you can see from the
:25:27. > :25:29.forensic officers behind me, is to gather evidence, find clues, speak
:25:30. > :25:32.to the 52-year-old man who has been arrested to try to understand, to
:25:33. > :25:38.make sense of what has happened here. We will leave it there. Thank
:25:39. > :25:44.you very much. Nick Robinson is back with me. We cannot escape the fact,
:25:45. > :25:49.can make, that this happened in the middle of a major political
:25:50. > :25:53.campaign. That's right, in the middle of this referendum campaign,
:25:54. > :25:58.indeed, only has a week to go. Instantly, all sides have suspended
:25:59. > :26:02.that campaign, leave and remain, but it is inevitable that the questions
:26:03. > :26:07.around this attack will start a future in politics when it resumes
:26:08. > :26:12.again, as it will pretty soon. We don't know the exact circumstances,
:26:13. > :26:15.we know that the police say it was localised, a code that it was not
:26:16. > :26:19.part of some global terror threat. There were some suggestions around
:26:20. > :26:23.that there was perhaps some politics involved in it. Much too early to
:26:24. > :26:29.know if any of that is true. If any of it is true, though, it is perhaps
:26:30. > :26:36.a reminder that this of all times is a point where our country faces one
:26:37. > :26:42.of the biggest aquatic choices in either of -- democratic choices, and
:26:43. > :26:46.realising that anger and fury and rage are never the same thing as
:26:47. > :26:50.belief, not the same thing as sincerity, not the same thing as
:26:51. > :26:55.passion. We don't know why Jo Cox died. We do know it was a terrible
:26:56. > :27:00.tragedy for a member of Parliament, for a mother, for a woman who fought
:27:01. > :27:06.for other people. But we do know, whether we agreed or disagreed with
:27:07. > :27:12.her, she deserved, our elected representatives, deserve respect.
:27:13. > :27:17.Thank you very much. It is time for the weather now with Louise Lear.
:27:18. > :27:21.Another day when the shower clouds gathered, and when they came they
:27:22. > :27:26.came with intensity. As you can see from this Weather Watchers picture,
:27:27. > :27:31.localised flooding, a couple of inches of rain. The shower is
:27:32. > :27:36.gathered and with some thundery activity, especially from north-west
:27:37. > :27:39.England and into parts of Lincolnshire. The showers will start
:27:40. > :27:43.to ease in intensity and they will start to become lighter in nature as
:27:44. > :27:48.we go through the overnight period. But at the same time we keep a lot
:27:49. > :27:50.of low cloud, drizzly outbreaks of rain across eastern Scotland, and
:27:51. > :27:55.there will be some patchy fog to greet us first thing. That cloud and
:27:56. > :27:58.drizzly rain continues to drift south and east across eastern
:27:59. > :28:02.Scotland and North East England. The best of the brighter weather looks
:28:03. > :28:05.likely to be into western Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern
:28:06. > :28:09.England. Some showers across England and Wales, but a bit further south
:28:10. > :28:13.and east than we have seen in recent days, some of them really quite
:28:14. > :28:17.heavy and thundery, with the potential for some localised flash
:28:18. > :28:20.flooding. Top temperatures 17 to 19 degrees, but some of them quite
:28:21. > :28:25.nasty indeed, so we will need to keep a close eye on those full stop
:28:26. > :28:28.a little bit brighter and drier across Northern Ireland and western
:28:29. > :28:32.Scotland. Still a little bit disappointed in terms of the feel of
:28:33. > :28:37.things, 14 or 15 degrees, only around 11 or 12 if you keep the
:28:38. > :28:40.cloud and rain. Conditions will settle down to the weekend, drive or
:28:41. > :28:45.most of us, and some spells of sunshine around as well. We could
:28:46. > :28:47.start off with a little bit of showery rain just fringing the
:28:48. > :28:52.Southeast first thing on Saturday, but this ridge of high pressure will
:28:53. > :28:56.build and quieten things down quite nicely, so I expect some sunny
:28:57. > :29:03.spells around, even brightening up in the south-east on Sunday with
:29:04. > :29:10.highs of 20 degrees. Player-macro a reminder of the main story today.
:29:11. > :29:16.Labour MP Jo Cox was killed after she was attacked in her West
:29:17. > :29:18.Yorkshire constituency. Referendum campaigning has been suspended.
:29:19. > :29:22.That's all from the BBC News at Six - so it's goodbye from me -
:29:23. > :29:25.and on BBC One, we now join the BBC's news teams where you are.
