:00:24. > :00:29.Good evening. This is BBC Newsline. The headlines this Tuesday evening:

:00:29. > :00:37.appeals for calm after 22 police officers were injured in the

:00:37. > :00:44.rioting in Belfast. Fire crews had to respond to hundreds of calls.

:00:44. > :00:47.Hundreds of Orangemen take part in 12th July parades.

:00:47. > :00:50.The latest on an investigation into a Derry doctor found to have

:00:50. > :00:53.carried out a sexually motivated examination on a patient.

:00:53. > :00:57.And they will be hit and miss again, but some of us will still be

:00:57. > :01:00.dodging showers tomorrow. Join me later in programme.

:01:00. > :01:03.There have been appeals for calm tonight as Orangemen, bands and

:01:03. > :01:07.supporters have their return parade through Ardoyne in north Belfast.

:01:07. > :01:09.Residents are holding a protest, as they did this morning. In west

:01:09. > :01:14.Belfast last night, vehicles were hijacked and 22 police officers

:01:14. > :01:24.injured in attacks by nationalist youths. Attacks on foreign

:01:24. > :01:24.

:01:24. > :01:28.nationals by loyalists were reported in Ballymena and Portadown.

:01:28. > :01:35.Traditionally, it is here in Ardoyne in north Belfast where

:01:35. > :01:41.there is tension on the 12th. But this morning, all that faced the

:01:42. > :01:50.small number of people parading was a peaceful nationalist protest.

:01:50. > :01:53.They marched to the beat of a single drum. There was some

:01:53. > :02:00.shouting and jostling as Republicans tried to leave the area,

:02:00. > :02:08.but the situation was quickly defused. That was not the case in

:02:08. > :02:18.west Belfast last night. Just after Falls Road, the police faced up to

:02:18. > :02:20.

:02:20. > :02:30.200 masked nationalist youths. Water cannons have to be used.

:02:30. > :02:38.There was concern it would spread to a local hospital site. This

:02:38. > :02:41.building has just been built. the clean-up got under way this

:02:41. > :02:46.morning, Sinn Fein said that some of those involved in the disorder

:02:46. > :02:52.had been from outside of the area and intent on a recreational

:02:52. > :03:02.rioting. Basically what you had was local people terrified in their own

:03:02. > :03:07.

:03:07. > :03:14.homes. Devastation has been left in the wake of people from outside of

:03:14. > :03:18.the area. In Portadown, three homes were attacked in the early hours of

:03:18. > :03:26.the morning. They are occupied by foreign nationals. It is near to

:03:26. > :03:34.the site of a loyalist bonfire. One of the residents, from Portugal,

:03:34. > :03:40.did not want to appear on camera. The you frightened? Yes. I don't

:03:41. > :03:45.know if they are going to come back. Elsewhere in Portadown there was

:03:45. > :03:52.also rioting and two police officers were injured.

:03:52. > :03:59.The Fire Service had one of its busiest 11th nights. It dealt with

:03:59. > :04:02.over 200 incidents last night, a 65 per cent increase on last year. The

:04:02. > :04:12.Deputy Chief Fire Officer told me about the pressure his people were

:04:12. > :04:13.

:04:13. > :04:19.under. We had a number of incidents and and number of larger fires, all

:04:19. > :04:26.happening at the same time. When at the crews were responding to

:04:26. > :04:34.Bonfire incidents, other crews from outside Belfast were trying to

:04:34. > :04:41.dampen down properties where the bonfires threatened to spread. It

:04:41. > :04:49.is a credit and a tribute to be engaged a work of our officers with

:04:49. > :04:57.councillors and communities that those fires were put out and they

:04:57. > :05:07.were allowed to go about their work without incident. How has it

:05:07. > :05:17.affected young men? -- your men. Any attack on a fire fighter adds a

:05:17. > :05:18.

:05:18. > :05:19.frightening dimension to what is an already hazardous occupation. Our

:05:19. > :05:24.and it is disappointing when they are going about their life-saving

:05:24. > :05:31.operations are attacked unnecessarily. What I would say is

:05:31. > :05:39.that we do take consolation from the fact that we know this is is an

:05:39. > :05:44.unrepresented minority engaging in anti-social behaviour. We do enjoy

:05:44. > :05:47.the support of the vast majority of the public and that has been

:05:48. > :05:54.reinforced today by elected representatives and community

:05:54. > :05:56.groups. In his speech marking the 12th, the

:05:56. > :05:59.Orange Order Grand Master Edward Stevenson has spoken about the

:05:59. > :06:02.legacy of the Troubles. And he has called on Protestants and Orangemen

:06:02. > :06:04.to engage with the Historical Enquiries Team in their murder

:06:04. > :06:14.investigations. We have reporters at parades across Northern Ireland

:06:14. > :06:17.

:06:17. > :06:25.today. First, let's go to Belfast. The largest of 18 demonstrations

:06:25. > :06:34.across Northern Ireland. Today, Belfast boasted 70 bans. They were

:06:34. > :06:40.led off from clan at Circus and 10 o'clock this morning. There was a

:06:40. > :06:45.heavy downpour during the early part of the parade. Families were

:06:45. > :06:51.decked out in traditional colours as the parade went by and headed

:06:51. > :06:58.for the City Centre. Spectators and flags were ready and waiting.

:06:58. > :07:08.get to see all the pageantry. we love it. We look forward to it

:07:08. > :07:12.

:07:12. > :07:22.every year. Our children go to integrated schools. It is good fun.

:07:22. > :07:25.

:07:25. > :07:32.A in the early afternoon the first bands made big to the county

:07:32. > :07:42.grounds for arrest. We are celebrating the 321st anniversary

:07:42. > :07:48.

:07:48. > :07:52.of the battle. We hope there are better days ahead. As the locals

:07:52. > :07:58.relaxed, some overseas visitors were enjoying the parading

:07:58. > :08:05.experience for the first time. Incredible, just incredible, and

:08:05. > :08:14.all the children made it to the entrance of the park. Making their

:08:14. > :08:23.own mark in shocking pink, this band are from Glasgow. They are

:08:23. > :08:31.known as the Pink Ladies. It gives the young girls something to do and

:08:31. > :08:39.teaches them about their history and culture. On days like this when

:08:39. > :08:49.we are here celebrating, it is great for everyone. All of them,

:08:49. > :08:53.

:08:53. > :09:03.determined to join the parade and have a good time.

:09:03. > :09:05.

:09:05. > :09:14.Nowhere is that drum more popular than in County Armagh. With many

:09:14. > :09:24.bans and lodgers, the county Armagh parade claims to be the 12th

:09:24. > :09:25.

:09:25. > :09:35.biggest gathering of arrangement. We are buried Prout of our operate.

:09:35. > :09:40.

:09:40. > :09:48.It is eight family-orientated day. -- we are proud of our parade.

:09:48. > :09:58.many as 500 Orangemen gathered hair in Killylea. There were also junior

:09:58. > :10:03.

:10:03. > :10:10.The Grand Master Edward Stevenson was here in his new capacity, along

:10:10. > :10:16.with his deputy, who is from the Limavaday area. About 5,000 people

:10:16. > :10:24.took part in the parade and double that number lined the streets.

:10:24. > :10:28.Limavaday District led off. In his speech, the grandmaster said

:10:28. > :10:38.victims of the Troubles should not be forgiven. He claimed the IRA

:10:38. > :10:40.

:10:40. > :10:44.carried out a bloody sectarian war and were trying to rewrite history.

:10:44. > :10:51.When we talk about the ethnic cleansing carried out by the IRA

:10:51. > :11:01.across this province, or we have a right to be heard. They my eight

:11:01. > :11:02.

:11:02. > :11:09.not like it -- they may not like it, but the violence of the IRA was

:11:09. > :11:14.never justified. The grandmaster called for co-operation with the

:11:14. > :11:24.Historical Enquiries Team so that the wider public could learn what

:11:24. > :11:34.happened in the Troubles. Thousands turned out to enjoy the

:11:34. > :11:36.

:11:36. > :11:43.festivities here and watch 70 lodges and the bans. It has been

:11:43. > :11:53.lovely. The weather has made it. For five districts were represented

:11:53. > :11:57.

:11:57. > :12:02.today -- five districts of were represented today.

:12:02. > :12:07.The Orange Order has nothing to do with it, will have nothing to do

:12:07. > :12:17.with it. It is not in our name, and take that Hearne because that is

:12:17. > :12:25.

:12:25. > :12:30.Music and festivities were the order of the day. It enjoyed

:12:30. > :12:35.Flagship at the status this year, welcoming nine district lodges

:12:35. > :12:42.along with 70 others. They were led by a Randalstown district large

:12:42. > :12:46.number 22. Some came from further afield. For Antrim town. I have

:12:46. > :12:53.been in Australia for the last 21 years and we thought we would take

:12:53. > :13:01.this in with our annual holiday. was celebrated by every generation.

:13:01. > :13:11.I am 100 years of age. I have seen all the parades. After the long

:13:11. > :13:18.

:13:19. > :13:24.walk to the field, it was time to Forget yellow man, it was all about

:13:24. > :13:28.Orange man in Ballycastle. 45 lodges from five districts took

:13:28. > :13:38.part. The first time it has been held in this seaside town for five

:13:38. > :13:44.years. Leading the line up, some debating its anniversary. Unveiling

:13:44. > :13:51.a new Bala -- banner for the occasion. It was a day for everyone.

:13:51. > :13:55.My message to people today is we bear no malice to anyone. We want

:13:55. > :13:59.to have a nice family day out and for anyone to come and see the

:13:59. > :14:03.colourful spectacle. The police had to deal with a security alert at

:14:03. > :14:12.the start of the parade but it didn't dampen their spirits of

:14:12. > :14:19.those that enjoyed the pounds and an ice-cream by the sea.

:14:19. > :14:25.-- band. Eight districts, 60 and 5,000

:14:25. > :14:30.spectators came to enjoy it. It is seven years since the demonstration

:14:30. > :14:39.has been held in this village on the shores of Lough Neagh. It was a

:14:39. > :14:49.day they had a -- they always remember. His is the first year you

:14:49. > :14:50.

:14:50. > :14:57.have played the accordion? Yes. I liked it a lot. A well-known

:14:57. > :15:01.veteran gave the speech. The former Grand Master criticised the

:15:01. > :15:07.Stormont Executive. It seems to be a cosy number in a Stormont these

:15:07. > :15:16.days. As everyone relaxed in the field, the sun came out, putting

:15:16. > :15:20.some people in the mood for a nap. That is a round-up of the day's

:15:20. > :15:23.events. In a few minutes, city- centre shops have been benefiting

:15:23. > :15:26.from the crowds that have been attending the Belfast demonstration.

:15:26. > :15:31.A GP in Londonderry has been suspended for nine months after he

:15:31. > :15:35.was found to have carried out a sexually motivated examination on a

:15:35. > :15:38.patient. The General Medical Council says Dr Lee Casey took

:15:38. > :15:47.advantage of the woman who had gone to his surgery with flu-like

:15:47. > :15:51.symptoms. Hitachi Saeed -- Natasha Sayee is

:15:51. > :15:56.in Londonderry now. The woman went to Oakley medical

:15:56. > :16:05.centre because she wasn't feeling well. That is one of two separate

:16:05. > :16:09.medical practices that operating out of the same building. She was

:16:09. > :16:14.examined by Dr Lee Casey and as a result, she made for allegations

:16:14. > :16:18.against him. The GMC has upheld two of those and concluded that he

:16:18. > :16:24.placed his hand inside her bra when there was no medical need for him

:16:24. > :16:28.to do so. The GMC has described this as a gross breach of trust. A

:16:28. > :16:33.few minutes before we came on air, the panel looking at what action

:16:33. > :16:38.they can take against Dr Casey, has decided to suspend him for nine

:16:38. > :16:43.months. That report and said that because of the age of the

:16:43. > :16:48.misconduct, a lengthy period of suspension is required but because

:16:48. > :16:51.of the recognition of his exemplary career, it has imposed a period of

:16:51. > :16:57.nine months rather than a suspension rather than the maximum

:16:57. > :17:01.of 12 months. Any comment? Dr Casey has denied any wrongdoing and his

:17:01. > :17:07.family has issued a statement through a low wall newspaper. They

:17:07. > :17:10.say it has been a distressing time for them. -- they have given a

:17:10. > :17:15.statement through the local newspaper. In a statement, they

:17:15. > :17:18.pointed out when the police investigated this in 2008, they

:17:18. > :17:24.referred it on to the Public Prosecution Service we then decided

:17:24. > :17:27.not to take it any further. It also said that Dr Casey will be taking

:17:27. > :17:34.this to court in order to clear his name and his professional

:17:34. > :17:40.reputation. The BBC has contacted a practice member and they say the

:17:40. > :17:48.practice supports him 100 %. The home of a Slovakian family has

:17:48. > :17:53.been targeted with a race it -- racist attack. The house was set

:17:53. > :17:58.alight and the couple and their baby escaped. It is the second

:17:58. > :18:00.incident in a week. On Saturday there was a shooting at the home of

:18:00. > :18:06.a Polish couple. A man has appeared in court charged

:18:06. > :18:11.with attempted murder. He McCormack from Stanfield place at Belfast is

:18:11. > :18:15.accused of trying to kill 42-year- old Joe Henry who was stabbed in

:18:15. > :18:19.the throat 10 days ago. He is critically ill.

:18:20. > :18:26.Golf's Open Championship is preparing itself for Romania.

:18:26. > :18:33.Within use of that, he is Gavin. -- Rory mania.

:18:33. > :18:43.Rory McIlroy Riley arrived at Royal St Georges as the poor way -- as

:18:43. > :18:53.Arriving for his first tournament since winning the US Open. Rory

:18:53. > :18:57.

:18:57. > :19:00.McIlroy Roy stepped back into the spotlight. Really proud of year.

:19:00. > :19:07.am really looking forward to getting on the golf course now. I

:19:07. > :19:14.am excited about this week. It feels as if I am playing really

:19:14. > :19:20.well. I am excited to get back in competing. Your arrival has created

:19:20. > :19:25.an unbelievable buzz. Are you aware of it? I am getting more aware. I

:19:25. > :19:28.am pretty good at staying oblivious to that sort of stuff. I can

:19:28. > :19:33.realise there is my attention on me this week than there has been in

:19:33. > :19:38.the past. It is something I am going to have to learn to deal with.

:19:38. > :19:44.It is nice. To have the support and expectation is a good thing. I have

:19:44. > :19:51.to go out and play good golf and live up to that. His successor has

:19:51. > :19:56.rejuvenated the man who helped mentor him as a teenager.

:19:56. > :20:01.Definitely I want to get back in there and compete. I have been

:20:01. > :20:08.trying a bit too hard. It is one of those things, I always enjoy the

:20:08. > :20:14.open. I have had decent success here. I want to try and get myself

:20:14. > :20:17.in their this week. Darren Clarke hoping to emulate the major

:20:17. > :20:22.achievements of Rory and Graham McDowell. All three men are trying

:20:22. > :20:27.to become the first golfer from Northern Ireland to win at the Open

:20:27. > :20:32.since 1947. After the story of a gymnast who in

:20:32. > :20:35.her own way once captured the imagination of the norm at -- the

:20:35. > :20:42.Northern Ireland public. Holly Murdock was an Olympic contender

:20:42. > :20:46.but her greatest challenge was her battle with an easing of disorder.

:20:46. > :20:51.-- eating disorder. This is Holly Murdock delivering

:20:51. > :20:56.another flawless beam routine, cementing her ranking as Britain's

:20:56. > :21:00.number one gymnast hundred 1001. Nowadays, a new generation are

:21:00. > :21:06.benefiting from her experience. Gymnastics was everything to her

:21:07. > :21:11.but a broken toe delights her an Olympic place in 2000 and a knee

:21:11. > :21:16.injury ended her a, what hopes. She fought another battle when she

:21:16. > :21:21.relocated to college in California as anorexia and bulimia took hold

:21:21. > :21:29.of my life -- her life. For people could see it more clearly than I

:21:29. > :21:35.could. All the signs were there. I picked myself up and realised there

:21:35. > :21:45.was something and got help. Everything is centred around shape

:21:45. > :21:46.

:21:46. > :21:51.and size. I am not going to lie, a got the better of me. Few think

:21:51. > :22:01.that if you are smaller and thinner, you will be better. -- you think.

:22:01. > :22:04.

:22:04. > :22:11.Again, it is not true. You find places to get the hell puny and I

:22:12. > :22:16.feel I am a healthier person for that. -- help that you need.

:22:16. > :22:21.now helps girls in a similar situation. You may think you are

:22:21. > :22:29.doing it the right thing bet I can tell you it is not a pretty picture.

:22:29. > :22:36.It is not worth it in the long run. Holly is back on the right track

:22:36. > :22:40.and hoping to inspire others to take up the sport.

:22:40. > :22:44.That is the sport tonight. We will be live from the open tomorrow.

:22:44. > :22:48.In keeping with the trend that started on 12th July, the big

:22:48. > :22:52.shopping centres in some of the major stores in Belfast city centre

:22:52. > :22:56.decided to open for a few hours this afternoon. They didn't have

:22:56. > :23:06.the usual trade but many people took the opportunity to spend a few

:23:06. > :23:13.

:23:13. > :23:19.pounds. These guys with colourful attire

:23:19. > :23:23.entertained the crowds. Not what you might expect but efforts to get

:23:23. > :23:28.tales in the city centre ringing. For on average people come in and

:23:28. > :23:33.see a street show and spend 30 in the city. There is a benefit to the

:23:33. > :23:38.shops and traders in the centre. This is the third year the shops

:23:38. > :23:43.have opened. Isn't it -- business isn't quite beaming but the retail

:23:43. > :23:48.sector says it is improving. It is better than last year and the year

:23:48. > :23:52.before. We are getting there and they still a lot of hard work to do.

:23:52. > :24:00.We have to create the conditions of confidence so all retailers can

:24:00. > :24:09.open up on this day and they don't lose trade and town. -- time.

:24:09. > :24:15.came up for the day to have a look around. You have a couple of bags

:24:15. > :24:23.their. It has been lovely shopping today. It hasn't been too busy put

:24:23. > :24:28.everybody in the stores are lovely. Everybody is smiling. Expected more

:24:28. > :24:33.people about. I expected more as well. It is good, the shops should

:24:33. > :24:36.be open. Many have kept the shutters down but in today's

:24:36. > :24:42.competitive environment, an increasing number are opening to

:24:42. > :24:46.catch that trade. We face lots of competition. It is a tough time in

:24:46. > :24:49.the High Street. We are seeing competition coming from the

:24:49. > :24:54.internet and it grows year-on-year. Retailers have to use every

:24:54. > :25:04.opportunity to capture the customer. Days like today are an example of

:25:04. > :25:15.

:25:15. > :25:25.Forecasting the daytime showers is a bit tricky at the members. Some

:25:25. > :25:25.

:25:25. > :25:29.places avoided them and stayed dry. There were showers around and they

:25:29. > :25:36.developed further inland. There is still a few of those around this

:25:36. > :25:45.evening but in between, still good gaps and fairly pleasant and try.

:25:45. > :25:52.Imagine quite a fine evening along the north coast. Through the night,

:25:52. > :25:59.clearer skies move inland. It is a little bit murky in some spots. Not

:25:59. > :26:07.too bad around the coasts. Temperatures around ten Celsius.

:26:07. > :26:11.Into tomorrow, we are going to get a mixture of sunshine and showers.

:26:11. > :26:20.The morning it probably is the brightest part of the day for some

:26:20. > :26:25.parts. Those showers will move inland towards County Antrim and

:26:25. > :26:31.Belfast and drifting in land throughout the afternoon. They are

:26:31. > :26:41.hit and miss. Some places will avoid them altogether. We have some

:26:41. > :26:46.bright spells in between and they will be not a long lasting.

:26:46. > :26:52.Temperatures are still going to be warm. Tomorrow night, we do it all

:26:52. > :26:55.over again and we have a dry night. Lows of ten Celsius. A bright night

:26:55. > :27:03.on Thursday before showers develop through the course of the day. We

:27:03. > :27:08.have to be prepared for the odd shower over the next couple of days.
