:00:23. > :00:28.Good evening. This is Newsline. The headlines: The health minister

:00:28. > :00:34.warns of no let up in the pace of change in local hospitals. Capsized

:00:34. > :00:39.off the Cork coast, the crew of a racing yacht praise their rescuers.

:00:39. > :00:44.The hospitals and doctors have been great. If I could find an excuse to

:00:44. > :00:51.come back I would find one. Residents call for the banning of

:00:51. > :00:55.traditional bonfires in Londonderry. I don't know where they came out

:00:55. > :00:59.from. They were eleven or 12 and they were blocked. And if you get

:00:59. > :01:04.the bus to work in Belfast, you're going to need to know about big

:01:04. > :01:10.changes in the city centre. I'm live with the details. There is

:01:10. > :01:15.anger at the scam that has dealt the Ulster Grand Prix a financial

:01:15. > :01:22.blow. If you're heading to Belsonic, there should be some pleasant

:01:22. > :01:27.evening sunshine on offer. Health minister has warned there'll

:01:27. > :01:30.be no let up in the changes to our health service. He spoke to BBC

:01:30. > :01:33.Newsline on a visit to the Royal Victoria Hospital which will have

:01:33. > :01:36.to cope with more patients when the City's accident and emergency

:01:36. > :01:39.temporarily closes next month. An indication of the pressure such a

:01:39. > :01:44.closure puts on other facilities has emerged with the latest waiting

:01:44. > :01:47.times at the Antrim Area Hospital. In three months the number of

:01:47. > :01:57.people waiting over 12 hours for emergency care more than doubled.

:01:57. > :01:57.

:01:57. > :02:01.Our Health Correspondent Marie- Louise Connolly reports. Sunday's

:02:01. > :02:07.bus crash in Belfast triggered an emergency response. According to

:02:07. > :02:14.those who managed the crisis at the royal A&E, it prove Belfast can

:02:14. > :02:19.cope with just having one main tra maw -- trauma centre. The staff

:02:19. > :02:24.responded. The control team worked efficiently as well. In supporting

:02:24. > :02:29.the clinical staff on the ground. After catching up on the headlines,

:02:29. > :02:33.the Health Minister saw for himself thousand royal intends to cope with

:02:33. > :02:37.thousands more -- how the royal intends to cope with thousands more

:02:37. > :02:43.patients. He said the change is just the start. I think the next

:02:43. > :02:48.year will be crucial. I don't intend to make rash decisions, I

:02:48. > :02:55.intend to make considered decisions. Be I don't intend to dither that.

:02:55. > :02:59.Can do as much damage as the cuts could do. And we have to live

:02:59. > :03:03.within a scenario are a tight budget, but if we manage our

:03:03. > :03:06.resources better, we can ensure as much of that budget is kept in the

:03:06. > :03:15.front line. This isn't the first time services have been transferred

:03:15. > :03:19.on to one site. When the mid Ulster's A&E unit closed in 2010,

:03:19. > :03:23.patients were transferred to Antrim. That hospital is still under

:03:23. > :03:28.pressure. Between April and June this year, the number of people who

:03:28. > :03:31.had to wait more than twelve hours in Antrim for emergency care more

:03:31. > :03:35.than doubled. Figures for the Royal Victoria Hospital's show the number

:03:35. > :03:40.having to wait has gone down, the question is will that remain the

:03:40. > :03:46.case once it has to cater for patients who normally would have

:03:46. > :03:51.attended the City Hospital? While a new unit will open in 2013, what is

:03:51. > :03:55.happening at Antrim is proof that even with the extra beds and staff,

:03:55. > :03:59.managers can't plan for every eventuality. The one thing that

:03:59. > :04:03.happen tafd changes that we couldn't have predicted was the

:04:03. > :04:08.scale of the demand for admissions for older people. We're working to

:04:08. > :04:11.make sure we take doctors to patients and to keep people

:04:11. > :04:17.independent at home. But it is those on the Fron line who will

:04:17. > :04:21.ensure that the system cope. But according to unions, workers aren't

:04:21. > :04:26.being consulted. When decisions are being made in the absence of any

:04:26. > :04:30.consultation, any information, or any input from the unions, which

:04:30. > :04:34.will lead to industrial action if they carry on. The people who are

:04:34. > :04:38.instigating the change will be hoping their sense of optimism is

:04:38. > :04:45.contagious. Because without the support of the health unions, the

:04:45. > :04:51.public, ve ten politicians, the transition will become more painful

:04:51. > :04:54.and not just here in Belfast, but right across Northern Ireland. A

:04:54. > :04:57.Belfast man was among those who rescued the crew of a yacht, that

:04:57. > :05:00.capsized off county Cork last night during the Fastnet Race. Geoff

:05:00. > :05:03.Kirkpatrick's dive boat answered the distress call and picked up

:05:03. > :05:06.five crew who were thrown overboard. 16 others who held on to the

:05:06. > :05:16.upturned vessel were rescued by the RNLI. Our Dublin reporter Julie

:05:16. > :05:25.

:05:25. > :05:30.Kirby has more. The rambler 100 was leading the Fastnet fleet when

:05:30. > :05:35.disaster struck yesterday. It took just 15 seconds for the yacht to

:05:35. > :05:41.suddenly flip over. Some of the 21 crew were asleep below deck at the

:05:41. > :05:45.time. At the helm was a five-times round the world champion. We just

:05:45. > :05:50.jumped off a wave and heard a big bang. I thought it was in the rig

:05:50. > :05:57.and I looked up in the mast and everything looked OK. But the mast

:05:57. > :06:00.was falling over. So it was obvious that we worked out the keel had

:06:00. > :06:06.broken. 16 crew managed to cling to the hull of the yacht, but five

:06:06. > :06:13.others were swept out to sea. An emergency beacon was activated and

:06:13. > :06:18.a May Day went out. On board one vessel was a Belfast man on a

:06:18. > :06:23.photography trip. We saw this small dot on the water and we only

:06:23. > :06:27.thought it was one person. But it was five people that were grouped

:06:27. > :06:34.together they had tied themselves together. Then we got alongside

:06:34. > :06:38.them and threw a rope over. So there was one of the, a lady in the

:06:38. > :06:45.group of five, which was the owner's girlfriend, she was in a

:06:45. > :06:49.very poor state. She was nearly losing consciousness. Woman was

:06:49. > :06:54.airlifted to hospital in Kerry, where she is recovering. But it

:06:54. > :07:04.could have all ended so differently. Back in 1979, two days into the

:07:04. > :07:10.race, a storm blew up. Hurricane winds tossed the yachts over waefrs

:07:10. > :07:14.80 feet high, devastating the fleet and leaving 15 dead. Although this

:07:14. > :07:20.a challenging event, technological advances mean it is a safer race

:07:20. > :07:26.and crews are more aware of the dangers. It was a relieved crew on

:07:26. > :07:35.dry land last night. Great they gave us more care than we needed. I

:07:35. > :07:41.guess if I could find an excuse to come back I will find one. Probably

:07:41. > :07:50.that -- one that is less traumatic. Now the operation to salvage the

:07:50. > :07:57.multi-million pound yacht will begin. A 65-year-old man has died

:07:57. > :08:07.in a road accident in kill Keele. The police say the road will be

:08:07. > :08:11.

:08:11. > :08:14.closed for some time. The Presbyterian Church is at

:08:14. > :08:16.loggerheads with one of its own ministers over comments in an

:08:16. > :08:19.Orange Order statement. It accused the Parades Commission waging a

:08:19. > :08:21.holy war against the loyal orders. The Church says the language is

:08:21. > :08:26.unacceptable. Here's our political correspondent Gareth Gordon. Orange

:08:26. > :08:32.men on Sunday parade, traditionally marched to the sound of traditional

:08:32. > :08:39.hims. But this one was told it could only play abide with me as it

:08:39. > :08:45.followed a nationalist area. They claimed they were the victim of

:08:45. > :08:52.Jihad. The hymns will be played shall be the choice of bands. We

:08:52. > :08:56.won't be kick Tait -- dictated to. They may play abide with me, they

:08:56. > :09:00.may not. We have an agency of the Government banning Christian hymns.

:09:00. > :09:07.I can't believe that. What the Parades Commission couldn't believe

:09:07. > :09:11.was the language. They were labelled Mullahs, accused of an

:09:11. > :09:15.action worthy of the Taliban. So they wrote to the Presbyterian

:09:15. > :09:19.church to complain. We have obtained a copy of the response. It

:09:19. > :09:25.said the language would only be used with the intention of causing

:09:25. > :09:31.offence. It was, said the church, unhelpful and unacceptable. That

:09:31. > :09:38.and can pbl be seen as a criticism of the order and in particular it

:09:38. > :09:42.own minister, the Reverend Gibson. Mervyn Gibson is minister here and

:09:42. > :09:48.he told us he wasn't impressed with by the clutch's response and said

:09:48. > :09:51.they hadn't discussed the mat we are him. He has also submitted a

:09:51. > :09:55.freedom of information request, seeking copies of correspondence

:09:55. > :10:05.the commission has about him, with a view, he says to possible legal

:10:05. > :10:07.

:10:07. > :10:12.action. Still to come on the programme: How some fans cheated

:10:12. > :10:20.their way to watch the Ulster Grand Prix. The fans are gathering and it

:10:20. > :10:23.has got to be the opening night of the Belsonic music festival.

:10:23. > :10:25.Bonfires marking the Feast of the Assumption, an important day in the

:10:25. > :10:28.Catholic calendar, have provoked anger in some nationalist estates

:10:28. > :10:31.where they were once a traditional ritual. Residents in part of

:10:31. > :10:34.Londonderry say several bonfires were lit close to their homes last

:10:34. > :10:44.night and they have called for them to be banned on health and safety

:10:44. > :10:47.

:10:47. > :10:51.grounds. Here's our North-West reporter, Keiron Tourish. It is

:10:51. > :10:57.estimated around half a dozen bonfire were lit across the city

:10:57. > :11:05.yesterday in what has become a tradition on August 15th. Wood and

:11:05. > :11:11.other material was piled high and burned in several nationalist areas.

:11:11. > :11:16.In Moss Park, there was a big clear up operation today. Locals were

:11:16. > :11:20.furious after a large crowd gathered there last night to watch

:11:20. > :11:27.the bonfire. I don't know where they came out of. I'm here 30 odd

:11:27. > :11:34.years and the crowd was there last night. And there was between 11 and

:11:34. > :11:39.12 and they were blocked. Where is the parents? I had enough. And the

:11:39. > :11:49.rest had enough. We're not doing it next year. One community workers

:11:49. > :11:52.said the council must act to ban the tires. -- fires. Youngsters,

:11:52. > :11:58.they reckon there was 500 people here watching this bonfire. No one

:11:58. > :12:01.has talked to locals about this. The locals are upset. This is a

:12:01. > :12:07.housing executive site and this has gone ahead. They have been

:12:07. > :12:10.terrified and hemmed into their own homes and had their property

:12:10. > :12:14.damaged. One priest in the city says the annual bonfires have no

:12:14. > :12:22.link with the Catholic church and they should be scrapped. This area

:12:22. > :12:29.in the most part is elderly people. And people coming from all parts

:12:29. > :12:34.for the occasion to drink alcohol, and to just make a nuisance of

:12:34. > :12:41.themselves and cause fights. This kind of coming together, it has no

:12:41. > :12:46.place in the Christian calendar. The council will spend some time

:12:46. > :12:48.clearing up. But for some the issue remains unresolved. News now of

:12:48. > :12:51.changes to some bus services and stops around Belfast City centre.

:12:51. > :12:54.Due on 1st September, they're part of the Department of Regional

:12:54. > :12:57.Development's initiative, Belfast on the Move, which aims to reduce

:12:57. > :13:07.the amount of traffic on the roads. Our reporter Alexandra Mackenzie is

:13:07. > :13:07.

:13:07. > :13:14.outside the City Hall. What are the headlines in these changes? Well

:13:14. > :13:19.I'm here in Donegall Square, an area busy with buses and as we have

:13:19. > :13:25.seen... All right we are going to. Clearly we have people trying to

:13:25. > :13:28.disrupt our broadcast in Belfast. We will try the get back to her

:13:28. > :13:37.later. Organisers of motorcycling's Ulster Grand Prix say they've been

:13:37. > :13:42.dealt a serious financial blow. Here's Stephen Watson. Thousands of

:13:42. > :13:48.spectators eneveryone joyed seeing the -- enjoyed seeing the top racer.

:13:48. > :13:54.But many got to see it for a lot less. They were able to cheat their

:13:54. > :14:00.way on to the circuit with fake wrist bands. Chris Page reports. It

:14:00. > :14:08.is the world's fastest road race. But some spectators have pulled a

:14:08. > :14:13.fast one. 25 get you into the Ulster Grand Prix. Fake wrist bands

:14:13. > :14:18.were being sold on Saturday for just 10. So some people got to see

:14:18. > :14:23.the action cut price. You can't call yourself race fans. It doesn't

:14:23. > :14:29.help our case. It costs a lot to put this on. We work hard all year

:14:29. > :14:34.to make it happen. And its annoying after that to hear these thins.

:14:34. > :14:40.Some of these were passed off. Organisers are investigating, but t

:14:40. > :14:44.at the moment, they don't know how many of 10,000 spectators got away

:14:44. > :14:51.with paying full price. The size of the circuit means it is difficult

:14:51. > :14:58.to secure the whole way around. The Grand Prix is held between Antrim

:14:58. > :15:03.and Lisburn. The circuit is made up of rule roads. We have the man

:15:03. > :15:07.power around the 13 approach roads, them guys work hard. Trying to get

:15:07. > :15:14.people. But there is always people who will try and beat the system.

:15:14. > :15:17.The money lost adds up. The Grand Prix costs 500,000 to run.

:15:17. > :15:21.According to a farmer champion, its is important that people pay.

:15:21. > :15:25.People look at the people here and the cars that are here and say they

:15:25. > :15:29.must make a fortunement 3 they don't see where the money is going

:15:29. > :15:34.out to bring the teams and top riders here and insurance and the

:15:34. > :15:39.rest of the things that goes with the vents. The grand stands are

:15:39. > :15:43.coming down sh but organisers are planning for the 2012 race. They

:15:43. > :15:53.will try to make sure that no spectators are able to cheat the

:15:53. > :16:05.

:16:05. > :16:08.system. You can see highlights tonight at 10.35 on BBC1. Robbie

:16:08. > :16:10.Keane has revealed a chat with David Beckham was key in his

:16:10. > :16:13.decision to join Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy. The Republic

:16:13. > :16:16.of Ireland captain, who'd been unhappy at the lack of first-team

:16:16. > :16:18.football at Spurs, is moving to California on a two-year deal.

:16:18. > :16:25.Austin O'Callaghan reports. There is a long stanged joke about Robbie

:16:25. > :16:31.keen's fool ball clear. He has had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus. Some

:16:31. > :16:35.prompt happy memories, others less so. LA Galaxy will be his ninth

:16:35. > :16:39.club. Some of his team mate will be familiar. David Beckham trained

:16:39. > :16:44.with Spurs recently and it would appear that is when the idea of a

:16:44. > :16:49.move for him to California began. He is a great addition to our team.

:16:49. > :16:54.We're excited about bringing him here. I think he is excited as well.

:16:54. > :16:59.I know he is. I think he could be an excellent addition to the squad.

:16:59. > :17:05.He is an experienced player. A proven player at the club and

:17:05. > :17:11.international level. I think at an age where he still will have many

:17:11. > :17:17.productive years ahead of him. was part of the so-called golden

:17:17. > :17:22.generation of Irish footballers that emerged in the 90s. There is

:17:22. > :17:27.no arguing with 108 international caps. But it is hi club form which

:17:27. > :17:32.has fluctuated over the years. His new team mate though believe LA

:17:32. > :17:37.offers a solution. He is the type of play hear the will succeed,

:17:37. > :17:45.because of his, I think he is a humble player, he works hard and he

:17:45. > :17:48.wl put himself in good spots to score. It is not yet clear if the

:17:48. > :17:53.distance will complicate his commitment to the Irish team.

:17:53. > :18:00.Travelling home for a friendly match could be an issue. But Robbie

:18:00. > :18:03.keen is happy to be California's second biggest footballing star.

:18:03. > :18:05.Brendan Rogers from Carnlough had his first experience of managing in

:18:05. > :18:07.the Premier League last night. He took his newly-promoted Swansea

:18:07. > :18:09.City to face big-spending Manchester City. Unfortunately for

:18:09. > :18:19.Rogers, another debutant grabbed all the headlines. Nial Foster

:18:19. > :18:27.

:18:27. > :18:30.reports. Brendan Rogers got a warm reception. That was from his

:18:30. > :18:39.opposite number, Roberto Mancini. There is no doubt the support he

:18:39. > :18:46.had from his own side's fans. Despite touchline pacing, Swansea

:18:46. > :18:53.kept City at bay for an hour. But another player grabbed the

:18:53. > :18:58.headlines, Aguero inspired City's headlines, Aguero inspired City's

:18:58. > :19:03.glol flurry. -- goal flurry. What a way to round off your City and

:19:03. > :19:05.Premier League debut. For large Premier League debut. For large

:19:05. > :19:13.parts of the game we were good. In particular the first hour. Some of

:19:13. > :19:18.our possession and confidence that we showed coming hoor was I was --

:19:18. > :19:21.here, I was proud of the players. They got the two quick goals, that

:19:21. > :19:27.were disappointing. But I think I was given many positives from

:19:27. > :19:33.tonight. It has given us great hope. Better Tays will surely come. --

:19:33. > :19:36.day will surely come. Johann Muller was training with his Ulster team-

:19:36. > :19:39.mates today for the first time since being named as the new club

:19:39. > :19:42.captain. The South African takes over the reins from Rory Best.

:19:42. > :19:45.Muller joined at the start of last season and at the end of the

:19:45. > :19:48.campaign was named Ulster Rugby Personality of the Year. The team's

:19:48. > :19:58.opening game in the Rabo-Direct Pro-Twelve League is now less than

:19:58. > :20:00.

:20:00. > :20:05.three weeks way. Glasgow will be the visitors to Raven Hill and you

:20:05. > :20:14.can see it live here. We managed to shake off the hecklers in Belfast

:20:14. > :20:22.City centre. Alexander MacKenzie is there to tell us about changes to

:20:22. > :20:27.the buses. A bit of peace for you now. What are the headlines? Yes, a

:20:27. > :20:31.bit calmer here in Donegall Square west A lot of buses behind me.

:20:31. > :20:35.People going home from work, people coming back into the city centre

:20:35. > :20:40.for an evening, but this is all going to change. And to explain

:20:40. > :20:45.more I'm joined by Billy gill pin from Translink. Can you explain

:20:45. > :20:51.specifically what is going to happen here? We're having to move a

:20:51. > :20:55.number of bus stops around the city centre and the streets aJay sent.

:20:55. > :21:02.In particular in Donegall Square West all the buss that depart to

:21:02. > :21:05.north Belfast that leave from here will move to upper Queens street

:21:05. > :21:11.and the buses on the City Hall side will move to where the spaces that

:21:11. > :21:16.have been left by the movement of the buses heading north. How do

:21:16. > :21:20.people find out about the changes? We have a let of measures to let

:21:20. > :21:27.people know. We have information on our web-site and our contact centre.

:21:27. > :21:30.We have sent time tables to household and we have represent

:21:30. > :21:33.yifrs around the city centre advising people what the change are.

:21:33. > :21:39.Thank you. What will happen here, the buses on this side will move up

:21:39. > :21:46.to the next street and the buses on this side will move over here that.

:21:46. > :21:48.All start on 1st September. Thank you. Staying in Belfast city centre.

:21:48. > :21:52.Music fans have been camping out overnight and queuing patiently in

:21:52. > :21:55.the rain to make sure they got into the opening gig of this year's

:21:55. > :21:57.Belsonic Festival. Dozens of acts will be playing over the next

:21:57. > :22:00.eleven days in Belfast's Custom House Square. BBC Newsline's

:22:00. > :22:09.Natasha Sayee is live on stage right now. She's not singing mind

:22:09. > :22:14.you! I feel like I should be performing here. You hear that

:22:14. > :22:23.roar? That is a big clear for Newsline. We're live at Belsonic.
