:01:09. > :01:15.Farmers' Union could face a bill of almost 200,000 to clear-up waste

:01:15. > :01:20.he allowed to be illegally dumped on his land. Details of the

:01:20. > :01:27.potential cost emerged in court as 54 year old Graham fury was fined

:01:27. > :01:33.in relation to debris at a former hospital.

:01:33. > :01:37.Below ground is a huge amount of illegally dumped waste, tons of it,

:01:37. > :01:44.buried by a contractor involved in the demolition of a hospital. The

:01:44. > :01:51.land is owned by a Graham fury who was President of the Ulster

:01:51. > :01:54.Farmers' Union for two years. Having admitted four charges

:01:55. > :02:02.admitting to waste disposal, a judge at Downpatrick Crown Court

:02:02. > :02:07.today imposed his sentence of 20,000. The court was told there

:02:07. > :02:13.were 1900 tonnes of waste buried illegally. The prosecution told the

:02:13. > :02:21.court that the cost of clearing it up could be as much as 180,000.

:02:21. > :02:26.The Contractor was also fined. Some of the waste was hazardous,

:02:26. > :02:36.including oil and car. Graham If you read claimed the worst had been

:02:36. > :02:41.left as a result of fight -- fly- tipping and not by the contractor.

:02:41. > :02:46.Graham Fury. A no comment. There will now be talks with the local

:02:46. > :02:51.council as to whether the waste will have to be excavated at huge

:02:52. > :02:56.cost. It is a clear message from the court that people cannot treat

:02:56. > :03:02.environmental crime with a cavalier attitude. Other courts around the

:03:03. > :03:08.country should enclose -- impose similar finds. Summing up, the

:03:08. > :03:12.judge said he should have known better given his position as a

:03:12. > :03:16.former President of the Ulster Farmers' Union. He said the find

:03:16. > :03:25.and the potential clean-up costs would send out a message to

:03:30. > :03:35.Sean Quinn has failed to have new bankruptcy proceedings against him

:03:35. > :03:40.put on hold. A High Court judge refused to restrain the former

:03:40. > :03:44.Anglo Irish Bank from serving him with a summons. Papers can now be

:03:44. > :03:49.served at his home. The bank said it would not try to bankrupt him

:03:49. > :03:52.until the conclusion of a related court case in Belfast, where the

:03:52. > :03:58.bank is trying to have his bankruptcy on this side of the

:03:58. > :04:03.border, annulled. A bar has been badly damaged in an

:04:03. > :04:08.arson attack in County Down just before it was due to reopen. New

:04:08. > :04:13.management had recently taken over the castle arms.

:04:13. > :04:17.People here say they are disappointed and disgusted at this

:04:17. > :04:21.attack on a popular pub. It is thought the arsonist broke in

:04:21. > :04:29.through this downstairs window. Police and firefighters were called

:04:29. > :04:34.just before 3 o'clock this morning. Two fire fighters entered into the

:04:34. > :04:39.property and dealt with the fire. They had to do a search because it

:04:39. > :04:43.was an clear whether anyone was in the pub. Very quickly we found

:04:43. > :04:49.there was no one in the pub, thankfully, and they quickly

:04:49. > :04:54.extinguished the fire. But there was severe damage. New management

:04:54. > :05:00.has recently taken over. It has been closed for two weeks. It was

:05:00. > :05:05.due to reopen tomorrow but that will not now happen. A councillor

:05:05. > :05:10.says it is dreadful news for the new manager. I know him well and he

:05:10. > :05:15.is a gentleman, a very popular fellow. My heart goes out to the

:05:15. > :05:23.family. They have put a lot of effort into getting the place ready

:05:23. > :05:27.and with this happening, it has stalled. This is usually a quiet

:05:28. > :05:33.village known for its use than for trouble. Residents say they hope

:05:33. > :05:39.the police will catch whoever set fire to the bar.

:05:39. > :05:45.26 people have been found guilty of staging an illegal protest during

:05:46. > :05:50.an Orange Order protest in north Belfast last year. It was on 12th

:05:50. > :05:56.July in Ardoyne. They were fined and nine he resisted arrest had to

:05:56. > :05:59.pay an additional penalty of 200. A son of the self-confessed INLA

:05:59. > :06:01.killer Dominic McGlinchey says he will make a formal complaint to the

:06:01. > :06:05.Director of Public Prosecutions and the Police Ombudsman about

:06:05. > :06:08.allegations made at a murder trial this week. During the trial of

:06:08. > :06:11.Colin Duffy and Brian Shivers who are accused of killing two soldiers

:06:11. > :06:14.outside Massereene barracks, a barrister said the police had

:06:14. > :06:20.reliable information to indicate that one of the McGlinchey sons

:06:20. > :06:22.drove the car used in the attack. In a statement issued through his

:06:22. > :06:32.solicitor, Dominic McGlinchey Junior denied the allegations which

:06:36. > :06:42.We are in Ballycastle for a special Christmas broadcast. A few miles

:06:42. > :06:51.down the road that way, boy the races are causing havoc. Residents

:06:51. > :06:56.fear someone will be killed. I District journalist t reports.

:06:56. > :07:00.This footage captured from the bedroom of a resident and one

:07:00. > :07:05.resident says he has had enough worrying about his children's

:07:05. > :07:10.safety. They spin the car around and around in the junction four or

:07:10. > :07:15.five times creating huge screeching noises, burning rubber. I don't

:07:15. > :07:19.know how they can afford to keep replacing the tyres. I am positive

:07:19. > :07:25.somebody at some point will get killed. They have no regard for

:07:25. > :07:30.safety, oncoming drivers or pedestrians. This is a popular area

:07:31. > :07:35.for those racing their cars. They speed along here, cross over the

:07:35. > :07:39.junction and jump a bridge at the other side. A lot of this is

:07:39. > :07:44.happening in broad daylight and yards from a local primary schools.

:07:44. > :07:50.Doing handbrake turns is a regular occurrence along the length of the

:07:50. > :07:55.busy road. It is a hot topic of conversation at the local district

:07:55. > :08:05.policing Partnership meetings. have come across people doing it

:08:05. > :08:05.

:08:05. > :08:08.during the day. Not just at night. Unfortunately, the drier weather...

:08:08. > :08:17.They go away in a cloud of dust and you can't see the registration

:08:17. > :08:22.number. When we arrive, we have the problem with mobile phones and the

:08:22. > :08:26.message gets about that the police are operating in the area. We would

:08:26. > :08:31.ask the community to phone us and give us registration numbers to

:08:31. > :08:34.identify drivers doing this and to give us statements. Drivers doing

:08:35. > :08:41.is have been caught and prosecuted already and residents are

:08:41. > :08:47.determined to put the brakes on it in the future.

:08:47. > :08:52.Worrying times. We have been here in the town all day as it gears up

:08:52. > :08:57.to Christmas. It looks beautiful and there is a great buzz as people

:08:57. > :09:02.get their last bits and bobs. Joining me is someone very glad to

:09:02. > :09:12.see the trade. Chaim -- the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce.

:09:12. > :09:15.

:09:15. > :09:25.What is the buzz like? It is fantastic. There are wonderful

:09:25. > :09:45.

:09:45. > :09:54.decorations. It has been a tough As you can hear, the microphone is

:09:54. > :09:58.being buffeted by the wind. Still to come: A major contest as

:09:58. > :10:05.Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke both aim to be clowned BBC Sports

:10:23. > :10:27.produce the net -- next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. One of the six

:10:27. > :10:33.undergraduates has been voted a winner. Our Education correspondent

:10:33. > :10:37.has met up again with some of the young men we met back in July.

:10:37. > :10:41.Remember these computer science students keen to develop their own

:10:41. > :10:48.applications? After months of development, they have launched

:10:48. > :10:53.their products. The overall winner is one application which tracks

:10:53. > :11:00.spending so users don't have to go into the red. He has a commission

:11:00. > :11:05.from his local council man. I can then go on to other projects. It

:11:05. > :11:11.will allow tourists to you everything they can do through

:11:11. > :11:15.restaurants to leisure and libraries. This allows seafaring

:11:35. > :11:40.who is trying to improve their CV at all times. The company has

:11:40. > :11:50.offered all six work placements and hopes to create a pool of future

:11:50. > :11:53.

:11:53. > :11:58.workers. For these firms, the world is their oyster. They can play with

:11:58. > :12:04.the best in the world. A special prize went to this student who

:12:04. > :12:09.develop a guide to help people with autism develop normal lives.

:12:09. > :12:13.As we prepare to gorge ourselves over the next few days what better

:12:13. > :12:17.time to talk about chocolate. I have been to a chocolate making

:12:17. > :12:23.factory for this week's family focus where they are doing more

:12:23. > :12:28.than just producing tasty treats. Melting Belgian chocolate in all

:12:28. > :12:33.kinds of flavours. This isn't Willie One car but another kitchen

:12:33. > :12:40.where the pressure is on to get orders ready for Christmas. This is

:12:40. > :12:47.a social enterprise business run by a charity - an alternative to day

:12:47. > :12:57.care for adults with autism and it is hugely popular. I love it to

:12:57. > :12:58.

:12:58. > :13:03.bits. I would come on a Monday and Thursday and totally love it.

:13:03. > :13:07.have eight trainees who come to the factory and learn all about the

:13:07. > :13:12.chocolate making process. They really get involved with everything

:13:12. > :13:17.from hand making the chocolate to packaging it and then selling it.

:13:17. > :13:21.One of the most popular flavours is the raspberry and white chocolate.

:13:21. > :13:26.Its creator is Andrea and she is delighted with its success. She

:13:26. > :13:35.says she finds the whole experience invaluable. It is important because

:13:35. > :13:40.it gives you a purpose. It gives you something to do and it means it

:13:40. > :13:46.is a stepping stone to the big world and having a normal job like

:13:46. > :13:51.everyone else. 26 year-old David has also found working him a boost

:13:51. > :13:58.and says he often struggled to fit in. He now hopes to put his

:13:58. > :14:03.chocolate making skills to good use. I would like to work in a

:14:03. > :14:08.restaurant as a chef and have more experience in a kitchen. Social

:14:08. > :14:16.enterprise is a great way for charities struggling with funding

:14:16. > :14:19.to make money for themselves. These chocolates are now selling in many

:14:19. > :14:23.locations in Northern Ireland and every chocolate sold sees money

:14:23. > :14:28.going back into developing further opportunities for young adults with

:14:28. > :14:35.autism and hopefully employment opportunities in future.

:14:35. > :14:37.In just under a few hours we will find out who will be crowned BBC

:14:37. > :14:47.Sports Personality of the Year it and with to Ulstermen in the

:14:47. > :14:48.

:14:48. > :14:54.running, it's exciting. Absolutely. There are two golfers

:14:54. > :15:04.in the next. Either way, our Open champions will be on the red carpet

:15:04. > :15:06.

:15:06. > :15:12.Darren Clarke fulfilled a lifetime's ambition by lifting the

:15:12. > :15:20.iconic Open Championship Claret Jug. Rory McIlroy won his first major at

:15:20. > :15:22.the US Open. The 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year is AP

:15:22. > :15:28.McCoy! CHEERING Now both golfers are

:15:28. > :15:32.trying to get their hands on another piece of famous silver ware.

:15:32. > :15:39.Will it be my first time ever attending the awards. I feel as

:15:39. > :15:43.ifive got a bit of a chance. Yeah, it's something I always watched

:15:43. > :15:48.growing up. It was always at Christmas time. It will be nice to

:15:48. > :15:53.win, a huge honour, the list of names on that trophy. Will it be

:15:53. > :15:57.pretty special to put my name among those great British sports stars.

:15:57. > :16:03.Just enjoy the fact I've been nominated and have had such a great

:16:03. > :16:08.year. I'm so proud of you. There were memorable and emotional

:16:08. > :16:13.homecomings for Rory and Dan during the summer. Tonight their family

:16:13. > :16:20.and friends will be supporting in the audience. It is wonderful to be

:16:20. > :16:24.nominated. If the public vote for me, I will will be... Hopefully

:16:24. > :16:29.introduce them to people they watch on the TV all the time. It is more

:16:29. > :16:32.important to me they have a good night as opposed to how I do in the

:16:32. > :16:36.voting. As long as they enjoy themselves it will be fine with me.

:16:36. > :16:41.Northern Ireland's other major winner isn't sure whether either of

:16:41. > :16:47.his friends will win. Having three golfers in the voting is office

:16:47. > :16:51.difficult. It waters down the golf vote a little bit. Myself and Lee

:16:51. > :16:56.Westwood discovered that last year. Rory has won a major and followed

:16:56. > :17:00.it up with another two great wince. Darren, the emotional vote. For the

:17:00. > :17:05.first time the sports personality of the awards are been staged here

:17:05. > :17:12.in Salford. You can vote when the event is screened live on BBC One

:17:12. > :17:16.at 8 o'clock tonight. And you can see a full list of the nominees on

:17:16. > :17:24.the BBC sport website: For most of us Christmas is a time

:17:24. > :17:30.to kick back and relax, but not for owl footballers. Derby Day is

:17:30. > :17:35.Boxing Day. The rivalry is getting stronger

:17:35. > :17:43.every year. This fixture has been value for money in recent seasons.

:17:43. > :17:48.Just two-and-a-half miles separate Cliftonville and Crusaders, so just

:17:48. > :17:53.why has this Derby arguably become the most entertaining in Belfast

:17:53. > :17:58.even ahead of Glentoran against Linfield? This is why. 31 goals in

:17:58. > :18:04.the last six meetings, the passion of the Derby is its biggest

:18:04. > :18:10.strength. It helps that Cliftonville and Crusaders have

:18:10. > :18:17.pushed for honours and there's also been the odd glimpse of red mist.

:18:17. > :18:22.Players can see one reason why this Derby is outshining others in the

:18:22. > :18:28.City. Over the years a lot of the years I played for them they always

:18:28. > :18:35.had a core four or five players from east Belfast. Linfield did as

:18:35. > :18:41.well. Cliftonville and Crusaders, a lot of local boys. For a lot of

:18:41. > :18:45.players friendship is put on hold for the 90 minutes. He's a good

:18:45. > :18:50.friend of mine but I don't think we'll be friends on the day.

:18:50. > :18:55.They've been sending each other Christmas cards with a difference.

:18:55. > :19:01.A strike! Gareth can see the funny side of it. Both teams will be hope

:19:01. > :19:07.hoping to put on another unmissable Derby display.

:19:07. > :19:13.Joining me is a man who know as thing or two about Belfast's Derby.

:19:13. > :19:17.Now manager of Coleraine. A Boxing Day, it is special isn't it?

:19:17. > :19:20.massive game. It is one that everybody looks forward to. How did

:19:20. > :19:26.you make the adjustment for Christmas. I imagine Christmas in

:19:26. > :19:29.your house will be different as a manager. Big time. The odd glass of

:19:29. > :19:33.wine compared to as a player you have to look after yourself to make

:19:33. > :19:40.sure you are ready for docksing day. Is it trickysome is there a buzz

:19:40. > :19:47.about the place when trying to select players. Are you thinking

:19:47. > :19:52.about who you are going to pick on Boxing Day? The old cliches that go

:19:52. > :19:58.out the window. You have to pick a team on the day you know will fight

:19:58. > :20:01.for everything to get a good result. It is going to be a big one. It's

:20:01. > :20:06.been massive. Ballymena probably with a change of manager has

:20:06. > :20:11.brought about a wee bit of form. For that, from that point of view

:20:11. > :20:18.it is a tough game. A clash of this size, everybody just wants to win

:20:18. > :20:22.it. I know our teacher. We are going to hear a bit of singing from

:20:22. > :20:28.the choir. Have you been involved in that. We just work with the

:20:28. > :20:33.sport. I stay well clear of that side of it. We'll come back in a

:20:33. > :20:36.couple of minutes and Oran and I will go through our scales. This

:20:37. > :20:41.time last year the ground was covered in snow and it was bitterly

:20:41. > :20:46.cold. As we approach the Christmas weekend, it is a completely

:20:46. > :20:47.different story this year. I think, would you not agree, it is pretty

:20:47. > :20:53.would you not agree, it is pretty good.

:20:53. > :20:55.mild as we head into the Christmas weekend. But that's after a

:20:56. > :21:02.temporary drop in temperatures as we head into tomorrow. Nothing like

:21:02. > :21:09.we had last year. Just a reminder of the widespread ice and snow in

:21:09. > :21:15.the run-up to Christmas last year. On this day last year we had seem

:21:15. > :21:20.temperatures dip to mine 17.5. This morning they were plus 10, a

:21:20. > :21:24.difference of almost 28 degrees. We saw a record-breaking low of

:21:24. > :21:29.minus 19 Celsius. It is going to turn chillier tonight. Not as cold

:21:29. > :21:35.as that, thankfully. It is mild, cloudy and breezey. Then we get a

:21:35. > :21:39.batch of rain. As that rain edges in, the breeze eases down. Some of

:21:39. > :21:43.the rain persistent and heavy for a time. It starts to move away from

:21:44. > :21:47.the west. Maybe dipping to 3 degrees in parts of the west. We

:21:47. > :21:53.might get the odd icy patch. Tomorrow, a colder day that. Cold

:21:53. > :21:58.air digs in for a time. That's going to bring a mixture of bright

:21:59. > :22:02.spells and showers. Some of those could be wintry. Perhaps not first

:22:02. > :22:06.thing. Will it be dry from a time behind that batch of rain. It

:22:06. > :22:11.should be bright, but colder than we've been used to over the last

:22:11. > :22:16.couple of mornings s. As the gusty wind picks up in the afternoon,

:22:16. > :22:23.colder air comes through, so we start to see hours turning to hail

:22:23. > :22:26.at times. Perhaps not so many in the south and east. Much colder

:22:26. > :22:32.than 12s we have seen today. Tomorrow night, a cold one.

:22:32. > :22:36.Temperatures will be dropping away. Eventually getting down to 2 or 3

:22:36. > :22:42.degrees. Frost and icy patches as we start Christmas Eve. That's

:22:42. > :22:47.going to change. The cloud comes in to bring spells of rain. 8-9

:22:47. > :22:51.degrees. Then for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, 12-13 Celsius. Strong

:22:51. > :22:55.Boxing Day, 12-13 Celsius. Strong winds and often wet as well. Back

:22:55. > :23:05.now to Bali castle, I Sarah and Gavin are there with a fantastic

:23:05. > :23:11.

:23:11. > :23:16.We promised earlier that Gavin might put on his special Christmas

:23:17. > :23:25.jumper and he didn't disappoint! have a surprise for you. Because I

:23:25. > :23:32.have to wear this jumper... Mistletoe! Merry Christmas. Merry

:23:32. > :23:39.Christmas. Shall we have a bit of music? That so lately. Behind as

:23:39. > :23:49.you can hear that joint choirs of pupils from two schools and they

:23:49. > :23:51.

:23:51. > :23:59.were suing one of the best loved -- # Oh holy night!

:23:59. > :24:06.# The stars are brightly shining # It is the night of the dear

:24:06. > :24:12.Savior's birth! # Long lay the world in sin and

:24:12. > :24:20.error pining # Till he appear'd and the soul

:24:20. > :24:25.felt its worth # A thrill of hope the weary world

:24:25. > :24:35.rejoices # For yonder breaks a new and

:24:35. > :24:36.
