:00:13. > :00:19.Good evening. This is BBC Newsline, with Noel Thompson & Donna Traynor.

:00:19. > :00:22.The headlines this Tuesday evening. Problems on take-off force an

:00:22. > :00:26.emergency landing for a holiday flight at Belfast International

:00:26. > :00:29.Airport. As Ian Paisley's family continue

:00:29. > :00:34.their hospital vigil, the First and Deputy First Ministers' appeal for

:00:34. > :00:37.prayers from the community. New laws to stop human trafficking

:00:37. > :00:47.as Northern Ireland has the fastest-growing sex industry in the

:00:47. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:51.A high profile expose into who is using these services could be what

:00:51. > :00:54.is needed to deter potential perpetrators.

:00:54. > :00:58.Those numbers keep going up. Northern Ireland tops the European

:00:58. > :01:00.league for the cost of motoring. The tension is palpable at Ulster's

:01:00. > :01:02.top table, as David Humphreys tackles the Brian McLaughlin

:01:02. > :01:05.question. Enjoy the dry weather while it

:01:05. > :01:14.lasts this evening. It's going to be more unsettled tomorrow. I'll

:01:14. > :01:16.175 holidaymakers had a terrifying experience this morning when their

:01:16. > :01:19.Tenerife-bound flight developed technical problems minutes after

:01:19. > :01:22.take off from Belfast International Airport. Emergency services went on

:01:22. > :01:32.full alert, as the plane circled the airport for more than an hour

:01:32. > :01:34.

:01:34. > :01:39.before landing safely. Conor Macauley reports.

:01:39. > :01:43.This is the moment the aeroplane full of holiday makers and touched

:01:43. > :01:48.down at Belfast International Airport. The emergency services

:01:48. > :01:53.were their own number. As it turned out, they were not needed.

:01:53. > :01:57.Ambulance, fire and police had been sent to the airport after it

:01:57. > :02:04.emerged that the aeroplane with 100 and 75 air passengers was in

:02:04. > :02:10.trouble. Its front landing gear would not retract after take-off.

:02:10. > :02:18.It had no option but to turn back shortly into the flight, circling

:02:18. > :02:23.for one hour to burn fuel. It made for an anxious wait for passengers.

:02:23. > :02:31.Some 10 minutes into it, maybe five, we realised the aeroplane wasn't

:02:31. > :02:41.getting any higher but staying at a steady height. Credit to the crew

:02:41. > :02:43.

:02:43. > :02:48.and captain. The front nose wheel would not retract. Obviously, they

:02:48. > :02:55.said they would keep us informed. We were flying around for more than

:02:55. > :03:00.an hour. A police helicopter came up to inspect the exterior of the

:03:00. > :03:07.aeroplane. We were all in tears. The airport has a major incident

:03:07. > :03:09.plan fraught and occasions like this and were pleased it worked.

:03:09. > :03:15.The captain registered the problem and put the standard procedures in

:03:15. > :03:21.place. All of our procedures were set in place on the ground with the

:03:21. > :03:25.emergency services, and everything went as we would expect. If Thomas

:03:25. > :03:31.Cook brought another aeroplane to Belfast to take the passengers on

:03:31. > :03:34.to Tenerife. It is believed all made the trip.

:03:34. > :03:37.An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal plane crash at

:03:37. > :03:41.Cork Airport last year has identified a problem with a sensor

:03:41. > :03:44.on the right-side engine. Six people died, and six were injured,

:03:44. > :03:47.when the Manx2 flight from Belfast came down on its third attempt to

:03:47. > :03:51.land at Cork. An interim report by air accident investigators says

:03:51. > :03:57.there was a mismatch in what's called the "torque" of power of the

:03:57. > :04:00.two engines. But the cause of the crash is yet to be established.

:04:00. > :04:04.The First and Deputy First Ministers have sent best wishes to

:04:04. > :04:07.Lord Bannside, as he prepares to spend his third night in hospital

:04:08. > :04:10.in Belfast. The former leader of the DUP is being treated for a

:04:10. > :04:20.heart condition at the Ulster Hospital, from where BBC Newsline's

:04:20. > :04:20.

:04:20. > :04:27.Julian O'Neill joins us. What is the latest? The hospital

:04:27. > :04:33.has issued no medical bulletins during the day on the former First

:04:33. > :04:37.Minister's condition, at the request of his family. When his son

:04:37. > :04:46.left hospital with afternoon, he did so without making any comment

:04:46. > :04:52.to the media on his father's condition. The editor of the local

:04:52. > :04:58.newspaper has been talking to close friends and family and says that Dr

:04:58. > :05:03.Paisley has been communicating with relatives. As you say, the First

:05:03. > :05:08.and Deputy First Ministers have passed on their best wishes to the

:05:08. > :05:12.family, and support. A man murdered in Lurgan at the

:05:12. > :05:15.weekend was 43-year-old Andrew Lorimer. His body was found early

:05:15. > :05:25.on Sunday morning in a flat at Portlec Place in the Mourneview

:05:25. > :05:33.

:05:33. > :05:36.area. A 21-year-old man is still being questioned by the police.

:05:36. > :05:40.The trial of two men charged with the murder of Constable Stephen

:05:40. > :05:43.Carroll, has been told that gun shot residue was found on a jacket

:05:43. > :05:46.seized from the home of one of the accused. Belfast Crown Court also

:05:46. > :05:51.heard that explosive particles were found on another coat which the

:05:51. > :05:58.prosecution claims belongs to the same man.

:05:58. > :06:05.A forensic scientist told the court that he had found part of calls on

:06:05. > :06:09.a jacket seized, which were likely to have come from the bullets fired

:06:09. > :06:17.at the police officer. He also found a brown jacket in the getaway

:06:17. > :06:22.car, and it is claimed this jacket also belonged to Brendan McConville.

:06:22. > :06:30.Traces of explosive compounds were found on that jacket. The saddest

:06:30. > :06:37.inspected a hooded top which it is claimed is owned by John Paul

:06:37. > :06:44.Wootton. Both men denied any involvement in the shooting, and

:06:44. > :06:47.the trial continues. Northern Ireland has the fastest

:06:47. > :06:50.growing sex industry in the UK, according to an organisation which

:06:50. > :07:00.campaigns for ethnic minorities. The Justice Minister has announced

:07:00. > :07:01.

:07:01. > :07:08.plans for two new laws to help deal with human trafficking.

:07:08. > :07:13.A hidden problem, but now a growing one. Since April last year, 26

:07:14. > :07:19.victims of human back -- human trafficking have been rescued. 18

:07:19. > :07:24.of them had been sexually exploited. An organisation campaigning for

:07:24. > :07:28.ethnic minorities says the issue is becoming bigger. We know from

:07:28. > :07:33.police statistics we have the biggest of growing sex industry in

:07:33. > :07:41.England at the moment. Part of that could be a displaced problem from

:07:41. > :07:46.the south of Ireland. As the legislative processes move on, it

:07:46. > :07:51.could displace the problem to Northern Ireland. The Parliament is

:07:51. > :07:57.taking the problem seriously, Sinn Fein called a debate this afternoon

:07:57. > :08:03.and said more traffickers need to be prosecuted. We need to put these

:08:03. > :08:08.people away, we need to make sure a strong message is sent which says

:08:09. > :08:14.it is not acceptable. That sense of urgency was echoed by everyone who

:08:14. > :08:19.spoke in the debate. One member saying anyone who used prostitutes

:08:19. > :08:29.needed to realise the harm they were doing. This is not a film, at

:08:29. > :08:29.

:08:29. > :08:34.a glamourous profession, this is rape for profit, a high yield low

:08:34. > :08:38.risk crime. The Justice Minister said he was planning to introduce

:08:38. > :08:42.two new laws, one meaning anyone from Northern Ireland who commits a

:08:42. > :08:46.trafficking offence abroad can be prosecuted here. The other will

:08:46. > :08:53.create a specific offence for trafficking UK citizens within the

:08:53. > :09:00.UK. I believe it is possible we will have amendments to our law in

:09:00. > :09:09.line with the European Union directive by April next year. So

:09:09. > :09:17.we're not lagging any -- it in any way behind. A Northern Ireland

:09:17. > :09:24.appear it is used -- introduced the debate into the House of Lords

:09:24. > :09:29.recently. People have been induced to come to the UK with promises of

:09:29. > :09:35.safety and employment. Of course, they were immediately put in the

:09:35. > :09:40.hands of a very ruthless type of gang involved in this trafficking.

:09:40. > :09:44.Politicians acknowledge it is a difficult crime to prosecute but

:09:44. > :09:47.raids that is have moved investigations Board. Last week a

:09:47. > :09:51.man was convicted for trafficking for the first time in a Northern

:09:51. > :09:58.Ireland Court, four or other cases are going through the justice

:09:58. > :10:04.system. Still to come on the programme: Is

:10:04. > :10:09.a big sponsorship tat about to be turned off for sport? And Brian

:10:09. > :10:19.McLaughlin breaks his silence over his sacking as rugby coach. I fill

:10:19. > :10:21.

:10:21. > :10:24.I have been successful and taken Filling up your car or lorry with

:10:24. > :10:26.petrol or diesel costs you more here than anywhere in Europe. With

:10:27. > :10:29.the Consumer Council warning of more increases, our consumer

:10:29. > :10:39.correspondent Martin Cassidy has been looking at the local pump

:10:39. > :10:41.

:10:41. > :10:48.prices. 90 to fill an average sized family

:10:48. > :10:52.saloon, the reality for motorists in Northern Ireland. It was no

:10:52. > :10:59.surprise when the Consumer Council today said Northern Ireland through

:10:59. > :11:05.2011 had the dearest fuel prices of any region in the UK. In January

:11:05. > :11:10.this year, diesel prices locally were the highest in Europe.

:11:10. > :11:15.According to a figures, compared with Britain, the average price is

:11:15. > :11:21.one penny higher. The big difference is cross-border.

:11:21. > :11:26.Motorists will pay 5p more for petrol and 15p more for diesel. No

:11:26. > :11:31.wonder that many motorists when they cross the border it still fill

:11:31. > :11:37.up. Yes, there is still a difference in price. With sterling

:11:37. > :11:47.going to 20%. I do notice one then, on the border here, petrol is

:11:47. > :11:47.

:11:47. > :11:57.always dearer. I have filled up here are the than in the north

:11:57. > :11:59.

:11:59. > :12:02.because it is dearer. One dealer contacted us today to say they

:12:02. > :12:08.looked back at what they were paying 10 years ago it and it was

:12:08. > :12:16.roughly half what they are paying now. They reckon it is 6 more this

:12:16. > :12:21.February to fill the family car than this time last year. Obviously,

:12:21. > :12:24.the price of petrol varies across Northern Ireland. The Consumer

:12:25. > :12:33.Council has called on the supermarkets to even out the prices

:12:33. > :12:36.across therefore cuts -- across the forecourts. Retail associations

:12:36. > :12:42.have been warning that oil companies as recently as last night

:12:42. > :12:48.had increased the price to them, so further price increases are

:12:48. > :12:52.expected here on the forecourt. The Consumer Council has said the

:12:52. > :12:58.government is set to increase fuel duty by three pence a litre, coming

:12:58. > :13:03.into force in August. It called on local politicians to join support

:13:04. > :13:08.for a European investigation into fuel prices.

:13:08. > :13:15.Politicians at Stormont can lobby Westminster. Last year the

:13:15. > :13:18.government proposed a fuel duty stabiliser for the consumer. That

:13:18. > :13:28.should be introduced. We want to see that introduced quickly.

:13:28. > :13:31.Politicians have a role to support this investigation. Calls for an

:13:31. > :13:36.investigation at European level. Worries for prejudice that prices

:13:36. > :13:38.may still go up again. That issue has got people talking on our

:13:38. > :13:42.Facebook page today. With most saying they're struggling to deal

:13:42. > :13:45.with high fuel costs. You can join in the conversation at facebook.com.

:13:45. > :13:55.We're updating stories throughout the day on Twitter. And don't

:13:55. > :13:57.

:13:57. > :14:01.forget you can send us your story A ban on the advertising alcohol

:14:01. > :14:07.after 9pm on television and radio is one of the recommendations in a

:14:07. > :14:12.report on how to reduce alcohol intake, plus much -- published by

:14:12. > :14:17.the Department's -- the Republic's Department of Health. Another

:14:17. > :14:24.proposal said that the removal of alcohol sponsorship in the sport

:14:24. > :14:26.industry will not solve alcohol misuse.

:14:26. > :14:32.A blueprint for addressing Ireland's difficult relationship

:14:32. > :14:36.with alcohol, one which evidence shows is spreading to get drunk and

:14:36. > :14:46.binge drinking. The we drink too much alcohol and we want to reduce

:14:46. > :14:46.

:14:46. > :14:55.that. It is measured in litres of alcohol over the age of 15, it

:14:55. > :15:01.equates to about 15 litres per adult per year and that is too much.

:15:01. > :15:07.The group recommends phasing out drinks industry sponsorship of

:15:07. > :15:13.sports and outdoor events by 2015. Here's an parents have the

:15:13. > :15:17.strongest link between drinking amounts rather than advertising. If

:15:17. > :15:25.you look at the fact that beer is the most marketed and advertised

:15:25. > :15:32.product, its market share is falling, but wine is increasing.

:15:32. > :15:36.There is something else at play. Some members say a cross-border

:15:36. > :15:42.approach is essential. Some recommendations will not work if

:15:42. > :15:49.they are on two separate -- into separate places. You can buy you

:15:49. > :15:55.drink somewhere else. That could be political dynamite. What about of -

:15:55. > :16:04.- Brand Ireland and presenting a pint at two presidents and Marks?

:16:04. > :16:11.We need to think twice about this. The public adulation of alcohol, it

:16:11. > :16:14.is time to reconsider that approach. The report is to be reviewed by the

:16:14. > :16:22.Irish government, who are keen to find a cure for Ireland's bn euro

:16:22. > :16:25.hangover. Ulster Rugby today address the

:16:26. > :16:31.elephant in the room, confirming Brian McLoughlin will not be the

:16:32. > :16:39.coach next season. At a frosty press conference, he cut an

:16:40. > :16:44.isolated and frustrated figure. When David Humphreys and Brian

:16:44. > :16:48.McLaughlan sat down at the top table, we assumed that what went on

:16:48. > :16:55.fault would be a well choreographed press conference and a united front.

:16:55. > :16:59.The next 15 minutes was stilted, awkward and laden with pension.

:16:59. > :17:04.Much as he has tried to put a brave face on it, last week has been

:17:04. > :17:09.difficult. There is never a good time. There is never a good time to

:17:09. > :17:16.get news like this. From that point of view it is not easy for anybody.

:17:16. > :17:21.Mickey Finn is -- the key thing is that it has happened and I have got

:17:22. > :17:27.to deal with it. That is very important. The players have got to

:17:27. > :17:35.be left to what they do best, playing. That is something I have

:17:35. > :17:38.to deal with an they have to make sure that they can perform at the

:17:38. > :17:43.optimum level. There are discussions with a number of

:17:43. > :17:46.candidates. The news did not come out when we wanted it to. It would

:17:47. > :17:51.have been easier for us to say, these are the changes we are making

:17:51. > :17:55.and this is the timing. We are in negotiations with some candidates

:17:55. > :17:59.and hopefully we will be in a position soon to make a decision.

:17:59. > :18:06.The story was initially leaked last week. Today was about damage

:18:06. > :18:09.limitation. Humphreys moved to fight crime McLaughlan with the job

:18:09. > :18:17.he had done and he has agreed to take up a post with the Ulster

:18:17. > :18:25.Academy. Brian McLaughlan was asked if he saw the move as a sacking.

:18:25. > :18:29.see it as a move sideways. From my point of view, the situation is, I

:18:29. > :18:34.have been successful. I feel I have taken the team forward. I am

:18:34. > :18:39.disappointed that I have not been able to take it to another level.

:18:39. > :18:44.David Humphreys gave no clues as to who will take it to another level.

:18:44. > :18:46.The squad must pick themselves up as they bid to reach a Heineken Cup

:18:46. > :18:51.semi-final for the first time since 1999.

:18:51. > :18:55.Tommy Bowe is set to return to play for Ulster next season. Although no

:18:55. > :19:00.contract has yet been signed, it is understood that he has agreed in

:19:00. > :19:05.principle to return to his native province. The 27-year-old is set to

:19:05. > :19:10.leave Ospreys with one year of his contract remaining. Munster were

:19:10. > :19:14.also two -- believed to be in the running to secure his signature.

:19:14. > :19:18.Steven Ferris has been cited for his tackle in the closing minutes

:19:18. > :19:21.of Sunday's Six Nations defeat in Dublin. The disciplinary during

:19:21. > :19:30.will be heard in London tomorrow. Amen hope he will be available to

:19:30. > :19:39.face France on Saturday. -- Ireland. I have looked at the footage. He

:19:39. > :19:43.certainly did not drag the player off. The player's left foot

:19:43. > :19:49.remained on the ground for the entire incident. We are very

:19:49. > :19:52.disappointed, first of all, with the penalty. We are more

:19:52. > :19:56.disappointed that he has been sighted.

:19:56. > :20:00.Michael O'Neill has revealed he hopes to confirm his backroom team

:20:00. > :20:07.within the next week. Tommy Wright has been widely tipped to become

:20:07. > :20:10.goalkeeping coach. Billy McKinley is also set to come on board.

:20:10. > :20:14.With his first match in charge looming at the end of this month,

:20:14. > :20:20.Michael O'Neill is looking too familiar and experienced names to

:20:20. > :20:23.join his coaching set-up. He is having to play a waiting game to

:20:23. > :20:30.secured the services of bulimic Penlee and Tommy Wright, who is

:20:30. > :20:34.currently working with St Johnstone. -- Billy McKinlay. They have club

:20:34. > :20:39.commitments and we have to make sure that their clubs are

:20:39. > :20:43.comfortable with the situation. That is an ongoing situation.

:20:43. > :20:51.Hopefully we can finalise it. It is good to have someone working in the

:20:51. > :20:56.Premier League. Tommy been based in Scotland is good for the players

:20:56. > :21:02.working there. Although he is keen to unearth new talent, all hands

:21:02. > :21:06.are into his -- in his thoughts. He is set to speak to some veterans

:21:06. > :21:11.who recently called time on their careers. It is a situation which

:21:12. > :21:20.has to be let that. I will have conversations with players to pick

:21:20. > :21:25.their brains. The door would ever be shot to any player. For now, the

:21:25. > :21:31.boss is keeping all of his options open.

:21:31. > :21:37.Many sports have been feeling the effects of the recession with the

:21:37. > :21:41.GAA hit by emigration. Ireland's loss has been London's game.

:21:41. > :21:46.2011 was the most successful year ever for London's Gaelic football

:21:46. > :21:52.team. This year, with the Irish economy on its knees, another

:21:52. > :21:58.influx of Gaelic footballers have arrived in London, including this

:21:58. > :22:04.26 short graduate. His story is an all-too familiar one. I was able to

:22:04. > :22:09.get work and use my degree for a year and a half for two years.

:22:09. > :22:13.After the first year, you could tell the work was drying up. I work

:22:13. > :22:18.for my father for a year. I've realised that my degree was going

:22:18. > :22:22.to waste and I had to look elsewhere. I had to look abroad.

:22:22. > :22:31.Even into county players are feeling the pinch. Tommy Freeman

:22:32. > :22:38.and Rory weds previously emigrated in search of work. This year,

:22:38. > :22:42.Morgan Mulvey had to move to London. His emigration good? It is for sure.

:22:42. > :22:49.We have got a lot of London-born players as well. When they are

:22:49. > :22:52.working with their club, the top quality players from Ireland, it

:22:52. > :23:01.improves their football skills and they are playing with top quality

:23:01. > :23:05.players. It all takes time. Overall, it is positive. If the

:23:05. > :23:13.opportunities were at home, would you be in London? Definitely not. I

:23:13. > :23:19.would be at home. I started out for a year. I would be at home if there

:23:19. > :23:22.was opportunities. 100,000 emigrants have left Irish shores

:23:22. > :23:29.since 2011. But for Ireland but good for London Gaelic games in the

:23:29. > :23:33.short term at least. This weekend, two Ulster teams will

:23:33. > :23:39.travel to Croke Park, dreaming of All Ireland success. The

:23:39. > :23:42.footballers of Derrytresk will take on Clonbur while the hurlers of

:23:43. > :23:50.Middletown in County Armagh bid for their first national title at

:26:12. > :26:16.especially in the countryside, with temperatures dipping to perhaps

:26:16. > :26:22.three degrees. The weather front will edge eastwards tomorrow,

:26:22. > :26:27.becoming increasingly wet and much windier as well. Getting off to a

:26:27. > :26:32.wet start tomorrow. Eventually, the rain spreads eastwards during the

:27:05. > :27:10.over us and it means that it is going to state unsettled as we go

:27:10. > :27:14.into Thursday. The winds will have died down a little bit. We will get

:27:14. > :27:20.outbreaks of rain. It should not be as wet as tomorrow and the rain

:27:20. > :27:24.should not be as heavy either. Temperatures will be on the up. We

:27:24. > :27:30.will hold on to those milder temperatures into the end of the

:27:30. > :27:36.week. It will stay and settled for Friday. -- and settled. Hopefully,
