:01:34. > :01:39.Republicans. Loyalist protests have been planned. Mark since and is in

:01:43. > :01:46.The police have had to call for reinforcements down here to the city
:01:46. > :01:56.centre after a brief outbreak of trouble involving loyalist
:01:56. > :02:00.protesters. I am at the bottom of Royal Avenue outside Debenhams. The
:02:00. > :02:05.shopping centre closed earlier this evening because of fears of what
:02:05. > :02:11.could happen with this protest and the anti-internment republican
:02:11. > :02:15.parade. The trouble has been pretty minor so far, but there is a very
:02:15. > :02:20.heavy police presence. There was a smoke bomb thrown by loyalist
:02:20. > :02:25.protest is about 15 minutes ago and a couple of missiles. Then, some
:02:25. > :02:29.protesters tried to turn over a police Land Rover. The police
:02:29. > :02:33.arrived and the reinforcements arrived. I have seen the police
:02:33. > :02:38.water cannon arrive as well. Everywhere you look in the city
:02:38. > :02:42.centre this evening, you can see the police, dozens of vehicles, hundreds
:02:42. > :02:47.of officers. It seems relatively calm at the moment, it is one of
:02:47. > :02:50.those nights when the police will be very glad when it is over.
:02:50. > :02:52.Eight police officers were injured and two teenagers were stabbed
:02:52. > :02:57.during last night's violence at several bonfires marking the
:02:57. > :03:01.anniversary of internment. The stabbings were in a nationalist area
:03:01. > :03:04.of north Belfast. In another incident, a man attacked the police
:03:04. > :03:09.with a sword. Sinn Fein have criticised the bonfire organisers,
:03:09. > :03:14.saying the fires attract people who want to cause trouble. Chris Page's
:03:14. > :03:17.report begins in the Lower Falls area of west Belfast.
:03:17. > :03:22.As the flames were dying down this morning, the police investigation
:03:22. > :03:26.was beginning. So was the clear-up. Council staff were getting rid of
:03:26. > :03:31.the rubbish from the site where the police came under attack last night.
:03:31. > :03:35.A crowd threw paint bombs, bottles and bricks at PSNI officers. Eight
:03:35. > :03:39.police were hurt. Two were treated in hospital for head injuries. The
:03:39. > :03:42.PSNI arrested eight people. While the bonfire burned, the Fire and
:03:42. > :03:46.Rescue Service had to come out and watch these houses, in case they
:03:46. > :03:54.caught fire. Although the bonfires are to mark the anniversary of
:03:54. > :04:00.internment, Sinn Fein are opposed to them. People from this community are
:04:00. > :04:04.asking that this is the last one fire that we see, because it is
:04:04. > :04:07.unacceptable, it attracts anti-social elements, and it is
:04:07. > :04:10.unacceptable to the majority of people. And the problems began even
:04:10. > :04:15.before the fire was lit. This journalist was attacked, along with
:04:15. > :04:19.a photographer, when they went to the site yesterday. They were fairly
:04:19. > :04:25.drunk, most of them. When we decided to leave because it was getting
:04:25. > :04:30.dangerous, we came under attack with a barrage of glass bottles. When we
:04:30. > :04:33.managed to get out of the way, they continued to throw the bottles at
:04:33. > :04:36.passing cars, almost causing an accident at one stage. There was
:04:36. > :04:40.also trouble at this bonfire at Torrens Crescent, near the Oldpark
:04:40. > :04:48.Road in North Belfast. Two teenagers who were at the site were stabbed
:04:48. > :04:53.nearby. The attack happened here at about half past midnight. A boy and
:04:53. > :04:58.April were taken to hospital the condition of the boy, who is 16, is
:04:58. > :05:01.described as serious but stable. The girl suffered injuries which are not
:05:01. > :05:03.thought to be life-threatening. And here in the New Lodge area, the
:05:03. > :05:06.police fired two plastic bullets during more disturbances. A man
:05:06. > :05:09.armed with a sword attacked officers. After a difficult night,
:05:09. > :05:16.the PSNI say their inquiry will be thorough in trying to identify
:05:16. > :05:19.anyone involved in violence. A nationalist residents' group has
:05:19. > :05:25.called off a protest against an Apprentice Boys parade through
:05:25. > :05:27.Castlederg tomorrow. The move comes as tensions in the town remain high.
:05:27. > :05:33.On Sunday, republicans are planning a commemoration to remember IRA
:05:33. > :05:35.members killed during the Troubles. Sinn Fein say it will be a peaceful
:05:35. > :05:39.act of remembrance, but the Secretary of State Theresa Villiers,
:05:39. > :05:41.Unionist politicians, the SDLP and the Alliance Party say it should be
:05:41. > :05:45.called off. Here's our Political Reporter Stephen Walker.
:05:45. > :05:48.This part of Country Tyrone has focussed political minds all week.
:05:48. > :05:53.Castlederg is due to host an Apprentice Boys parade on Saturday
:05:53. > :05:56.and a republican parade on Sunday. Nationalists and republicans had
:05:56. > :06:06.originally planned to hold a counter demonstration to the Apprentice Boys
:06:06. > :06:08.
:06:08. > :06:13.parade, but now that protest has been called off. We have never
:06:13. > :06:16.protest against the Apprentice Boys, but we were protesting against the
:06:16. > :06:22.fact that they have come into the Nationalists end of the town without
:06:22. > :06:24.seeking the consent of the community, which is the first time
:06:24. > :06:27.they have done that in five and half years. Sunday's prarade by
:06:27. > :06:32.republicans commemorates members of the IRA, including two IRA men who
:06:32. > :06:35.died in 1973 when their own bomb exploded prematurely. A number of
:06:35. > :06:41.families whose relatives were killed by the IRA in Castlederg say the
:06:41. > :06:50.parade is insensitive. Jackie Hamilton was in the UDR and was shot
:06:50. > :06:54.by the IRA. His nephew is against Sunday's parade. Why do they have to
:06:54. > :07:01.bring it to the place where they cost so much death and destruction?
:07:01. > :07:11.29 murders, over 50 bombs. I mean, they could have it where the two men
:07:11. > :07:13.
:07:13. > :07:17.had died. They have been having it elsewhere for years, why bring it to
:07:17. > :07:20.the scene of such death and devastation? There is much political
:07:20. > :07:29.opposition to Sundays parade. The Secretary of State, the Alliance
:07:29. > :07:33.Party and the SDLP say it should not go ahead. Given that so many people
:07:33. > :07:37.have died in the Castlederg area, there is a lot of pain. These
:07:37. > :07:40.commemorations are fine but I think a lot of people are still suffering
:07:40. > :07:45.and the pain reopens when they hear of such parades as this. The DUP and
:07:45. > :07:52.the UUP are also opposed to Sunday's parade. And even at this late stage,
:07:52. > :07:57.Unionists hope republicans will change their mind. We have reports
:07:57. > :08:01.of the victims having to go to doctors to get medication. They are
:08:01. > :08:04.reliving this day in, day out, and that is totally wrong. It is wrong
:08:04. > :08:07.that they are bringing this back into the forefront of the life of
:08:07. > :08:13.the people of Castlederg. Sinn Fein say Sunday's parade is not a
:08:13. > :08:15.celebration. It has been re-routed away from the town's war memorial.
:08:15. > :08:19.Deputy First Minster Martin McGuinness said it will not glorify

:08:29. > :08:32.
:08:33. > :08:36.remembrance. 30 years after the murder, the IRA
:08:36. > :08:39.has admitted shooting the only prison officer in the Republic to be

:09:05. > :09:08.was paralysed from the neck down. He was very badly brain-damaged. We did
:09:08. > :09:12.try and get on with life but it was very difficult for us. Three months
:09:12. > :09:22.ago, the family met Gerry Adams to ask for help to establish if the IRA

:09:31. > :09:37.met with a former IRA leader who had investigated the smarter and for the
:09:37. > :09:43.first time it was made clear to the family that Republicans had been

:14:21. > :14:23.friendliest ever! All very friendly, really. In the Games' 28-year

:16:56. > :17:01.Bill Perrins. When I was a schoolboy I used to like cycling a lot. I saw
:17:01. > :17:07.films of the Vulcan landing, using a great parachute to slow the plane. I

:17:26. > :17:34.down the road and deployed the parachute, the bike stopped and I
:17:34. > :17:42.kept going over the handlebars. An aeroplane inspired me to do silly
:17:42. > :17:46.things on my bicycle! The delta wing is the aircraft's unique feature.
:17:46. > :17:50.There is nothing like this in the air today. The Vulcan's last time an
:17:50. > :17:53.action was during the Falklands War in 1982, when the aircraft flew
:17:53. > :17:59.thousands of miles to bomb Port Stanley airport. This weekend, it's
:17:59. > :18:02.on a much friendlier mission to Northern Ireland. We heard a strong
:18:02. > :18:08.rumour that the aircraft may never fly after the end of this year. It
:18:08. > :18:12.seems like they have made a way of making a fly until at least 2015.
:18:12. > :18:17.The story behind my enforcement is I was the last controller to speak to
:18:18. > :18:24.it when it last displayed at the 25th anniversary of the airport. I
:18:24. > :18:27.had to terminate the display to allow others to land behind it.
:18:27. > :18:34.Apart from the Red Arrows, the Vulcan is unlikely to play second
:18:34. > :18:39.fiddle to any of the other display aircraft tomorrow. It is such a
:18:39. > :18:46.bizarre ship, it is a real Thunderbirds sort of shape. If you
:18:46. > :18:49.give a kid a crayon to draw on aeroplane, it will come out with
:18:49. > :18:52.something like a Vulcan. This aircraft will fly until 2015. After
:18:52. > :19:02.that, its future depends on charity funding, Lottery grants and aero

:19:59. > :20:02.well. It is really exciting. It is a big thing to be part of.
:20:02. > :20:04.organisers faced a huge logistical task, recruiting up to 1,500

:20:36. > :20:42.do not think about, it has been major. We have been as well prepared
:20:42. > :20:46.as we could have been. It's the first time the All-Ireland Fleadh
:20:46. > :20:50.has been staged outside the Republic. The organisers say they've

:21:27. > :21:29.enjoyable time but to act responsibly. Above all, it's about
:21:29. > :21:37.the performance. This 14-year-old makes his All Ireland Fleadh debut
:21:37. > :21:45.and can't wait. I can't wait. It is going to be an amazing experience.
:21:45. > :21:48.The Fleadh runs until Sunday week. We will hear about the weather
:21:48. > :21:51.shortly. An hour ago, Rory McIlroy looked to
:21:51. > :21:57.have relinquished his grasp on Golf's US PGA Championship, but he's
:21:57. > :22:02.hanging on in there...just. The curls have gone, but the
:22:02. > :22:05.roller-coaster goes on. At one point today it looked like Rory would miss
:22:05. > :22:09.the cut in golf's final major of the year. The defending champion, who's
:22:09. > :22:13.been enduring a season of struggles, fell to four over par early in
:22:13. > :22:17.today's round. But he did recover his composure to rally with four
:22:17. > :22:23.birdies over the last six holes to finish the day on level par, eight
:22:23. > :22:27.shots of lead. -- seven shots off the lead. Darren Clarke is two over
:22:27. > :22:29.at the halfway stage and should make the cut. Graeme McDowell began his
:22:29. > :22:33.second round a short time ago on level par.
:22:33. > :22:35.The Irish League kicks off tomorrow and it does so under a cloud of
:22:35. > :22:39.controversy. The newly formed Northern Ireland Football League,
:22:39. > :22:42.which will operate independently of the IFA, has warned that it's reform
:22:42. > :22:48.or bust. Earlier today, former footballer and board member Peter
:22:48. > :22:55.Dornan joined us in the studio. I asked him if the local game is in
:22:55. > :23:02.the last chance saloon. That is what people are saying.
:23:02. > :23:06.Certainly, the takeover gives us the opportunity to look at the game and
:23:06. > :23:10.to see where it is going, basically, but I wouldn't describe
:23:10. > :23:16.it as a last chance. It is a game which needs a very serious overhaul
:23:16. > :23:22.and review. Myself and my fellow directors in the new league are
:23:22. > :23:26.determined to go ahead and deal with that. Is Sunday football the answer?
:23:26. > :23:32.I do not think so. There has been a lot of debate about it, it is not
:23:33. > :23:36.going to save the game. All I ask for is for the clubs to be more
:23:36. > :23:40.flexible and encourage them to play a Sunday game if the opportunity
:23:40. > :23:43.arises. The rules allow for Sunday football. There is nothing in the
:23:43. > :23:50.rules that says you cannot play Sunday football. I would encourage
:23:50. > :23:53.clubs to be flexible. Friday nights, maybe Thursday nights, and Sundays
:23:53. > :23:57.if necessary. In the league of Ireland they play during the summer,
:23:57. > :24:01.is that something you have looked at? I think that is a more
:24:01. > :24:05.contentious issue than Sunday football. That is something we are
:24:05. > :24:09.seriously looking at. In saying that, we are going to have to engage
:24:09. > :24:13.with the stakeholders, the supporters, the players, the clubs,
:24:13. > :24:18.everybody, to get their views. Certainly that is on the agenda for
:24:18. > :24:24.discussion. For the newly formed league, independence is crucial, but
:24:24. > :24:28.you are funded by the IFA. That cannot be ideal? It is something
:24:28. > :24:37.that causes me concern. How can a body be totally independent if we
:24:37. > :24:40.are being funded by another body? The aim is to become totally
:24:40. > :24:45.independent. It is a starting point. We have no money, so we need the
:24:45. > :24:49.money from the IFA to get up and running. Hopefully it will be cut in
:24:50. > :24:55.the near future. It is a four-year plan. If it does not work, where
:24:55. > :25:00.does that leave the ball? Back to the status quo. Maybe the
:25:00. > :25:03.possibility of the likes of a glorified amateur league. Who knows?
:25:03. > :25:11.If it does not work, I will not be there.
:25:11. > :25:15.We will be back on Final Score tomorrow.
:25:15. > :25:18.Let's return to the city centre, where there has been trouble as
:25:18. > :25:23.loyalists protest against an ante internment march.
:25:23. > :25:30.More trouble in the last couple of minutes. The Republican career is
:25:30. > :25:34.now close. It is just a couple of minutes away. It is supposed to come
:25:34. > :25:39.down Royal Avenue. Loyalists have blocked the road. The police have to
:25:39. > :25:42.decide whether they clear the road and try and get the parade down
:25:42. > :25:46.Royal Avenue, or re-route the parade. There is no easy answer. It
:25:46. > :25:52.looks like it is going to be a long night for the police in the centre
:25:52. > :26:02.of Belfast. More at this evening on the 10:25pm
:26:02. > :26:03.
:26:04. > :26:07.we go through this evening, we could see some rain overnight. It is going
:26:07. > :26:17.to be quite cool with temperatures down to nine or 10 degrees
:26:17. > :26:25.
:26:25. > :26:29.overnight. It is a big weekend of golf. If you have a tee time but,
:26:29. > :26:34.things should be OK for you. We have had some decent brighter spells but
:26:34. > :26:38.temperatures are below what we would expect at the time of year. Saturday
:26:38. > :26:42.is not a bad day with just a few showers in the afternoon. Over
:26:42. > :26:48.Newcastle, plenty to watch out for. It is the festival of light with a
:26:48. > :26:55.Vulcan. The display begins at two o'clock. It should be a lot of fun.
:26:55. > :26:59.On Saturday, more showers through the evening. It is a damp and chilly
:26:59. > :27:03.night going into Sunday. We have the end of one Festival and the
:27:03. > :27:08.beginning of another in Derry -Londonderry. It is the end of the
:27:08. > :27:13.Maiden City Festival and the start of the flower. Both will be playing
:27:13. > :27:18.dodge the shower, though it will be cooler on Sunday. We have a westerly
:27:18. > :27:25.breeze coming in and that keeps temperatures down. There is more
:27:25. > :27:33.rain around as well. It could be quite soggy in places. The story of
