:00:00. > :00:11.Good evening. A Polish man whose car was destroyed

:00:12. > :00:14.in an arson attack in North Belfast last night says he is considering

:00:15. > :00:17.leaving Northern Ireland. His vehicle was one of four targeted in

:00:18. > :00:19.an attack on the Whitewell Road which the police are treating as a

:00:20. > :00:30.hate crime. Helen Jones has more. Far from home, four families try to

:00:31. > :00:35.make a new life in Northern Ireland. They live in this small stretch of

:00:36. > :00:39.road close to a sectarian interface. Last night, four cars were set

:00:40. > :00:43.alight. It is being treated as a hate crime and the police were back

:00:44. > :00:49.again this morning. Four different cars with one thing in common, they

:00:50. > :00:54.are all owned by foreign national families who life here, who -- who

:00:55. > :01:00.live here and work here locally and they are really angry about what

:01:01. > :01:04.happened. Seeking refuge from war torn Afghanistan, it hasn't been an

:01:05. > :01:07.easy transition for this man and his young family. He has been living in

:01:08. > :01:16.Northern Ireland for 15 years and this isn't the first time he has

:01:17. > :01:21.been targeted. I lived in Tiger's Bay, the same kind of people, but

:01:22. > :01:29.they burned my house as well. I come for work and I see my house is

:01:30. > :01:34.burned. Do you intend staying? I am not afraid of nobody. The damage to

:01:35. > :01:38.this family car is extensive. They are just thankful the Fire and

:01:39. > :01:42.Rescue Service were able to prevent the fire spreading to the property.

:01:43. > :01:46.For the young Polish family living here, it is too close to home. How

:01:47. > :01:53.long have you been here in this house? In the house, about six

:01:54. > :01:57.weeks. I lived here for six years and nothing happened. I don't know

:01:58. > :02:07.what to say. I am in shock. You are in shock? Yeah. I want to move as

:02:08. > :02:12.fast as I can from that house. Originally from Slovakia, this man

:02:13. > :02:20.examines damage to the car he needs for work. No work. No car. Every day

:02:21. > :02:27.we work. The inquiry into historical abuse

:02:28. > :02:30.has been told that those in charge of young boys at Termonbacca

:02:31. > :02:34.Children's Home in Londonderry behaved like "The Taliban". The

:02:35. > :02:37.inquiry, which is investigating abuse at a number of children's

:02:38. > :02:41.homes in Northern Ireland from 1922 to 1995, heard from a man who went

:02:42. > :02:53.into the home as a young boy in 1950. Kevin Sharkey reports.

:02:54. > :02:57.Desperate cries from scared children rang through the corridors of this

:02:58. > :03:04.building, the inquiry ary heard today. The claim came from a witness

:03:05. > :03:09.who gave his description of what happened at Termonbacca Children's

:03:10. > :03:14.Home when I lived there as a child. The environment of Termonbacca

:03:15. > :03:18.Children's Home was such that 24, seven no one was safe. No child was

:03:19. > :03:22.safe. I wasn't safe. The victim's evidence was at times harrowing and

:03:23. > :03:27.times he became emotional and he described those in charge as like

:03:28. > :03:42.the Taliban, he said, because of their fundamentalism and Sadasm. The

:03:43. > :03:47.chairman said, " How could any church organisation inflict that on

:03:48. > :03:52.me?" The man said he told the priest what he witnessed. The priest told

:03:53. > :03:58.him, "You must never speak about that and then added, you are the

:03:59. > :04:02.product of a satanic relationship." The experience left him with

:04:03. > :04:08.traumatic memories. All the junior boys from four to eight years of age

:04:09. > :04:15.were in bed and one boy would start crying for his mammy and you would

:04:16. > :04:19.hear the cry, "Mammy, mammy." The next boy would start. The man told

:04:20. > :04:22.of how later in life he made a discovery about his family. Two of

:04:23. > :04:27.his brothers were at Termonbacca Children's Home while he was there

:04:28. > :04:34.and five of his sisters were at a nearby nun's home he visited

:04:35. > :04:38.occasionally. He never knew as the nuns didn't tell him.

:04:39. > :04:44.A man accused of raping a child in the 1990s has told a court the

:04:45. > :04:47.alleged victim is lying. He is one of three men facing a series of

:04:48. > :04:51.sexual abuse charges. The alleged victims are a brother and sister.

:04:52. > :04:55.Today the only defendant not related to them took the witness stand. He

:04:56. > :04:58.is described as a family friend and faces charges in connection to the

:04:59. > :05:05.alleged female victim. He told the jury at Coleraine Crown Court he is

:05:06. > :05:08.innocent of all charges. He confirmed that he had been back to

:05:09. > :05:11.the family home and watched pornography there, but denied any

:05:12. > :05:15.suggestions of sexually abusing a child.

:05:16. > :05:17.A play which was banned by Newtownabbey Council, and then given

:05:18. > :05:24.a reprieve, got underway in the borough tonight. The production

:05:25. > :05:27.about the Bible is being staged by The Reduced Shakespeare Company at

:05:28. > :05:32.the Mill Theatre. Dan Stanton watched some of the performance.

:05:33. > :05:36.Dan, so what was the turnout for the play like? Stephen, it was a very

:05:37. > :05:40.good turnout. A total contrast to just over a week ago before the play

:05:41. > :05:44.was banned when just over 100 tickets had been sold for both

:05:45. > :05:48.nights. Now, this evening, there were 400 people at the performance.

:05:49. > :05:56.That's a sell out and tomorrow night, another 400 and another sell

:05:57. > :06:00.out. So what's the reaction been? Well, I saw the first-half of

:06:01. > :06:06.tonight's performance and it was very well received indeed. Sketches

:06:07. > :06:10.from three of the actors who were playing the Bible in less than two

:06:11. > :06:13.hours. Now, after the performance I spoke to some of the audience that

:06:14. > :06:18.saw the production and this is what they had to say.

:06:19. > :06:22.I don't know what the fuss was about. It was hilarious. It was

:06:23. > :06:26.marvellous, it was everything you expected it to be. The sell out

:06:27. > :06:30.crowd is testament to the fact that everyone wants to come out and enjoy

:06:31. > :06:36.themselves. I am so glad it went ahead. A victory for freedom in the

:06:37. > :06:39.arts. Would you have gone to it if it hadn't been banned and then

:06:40. > :06:49.unbanned? I made an effort to support them. It was fun. A good

:06:50. > :06:54.atmosphere. I really enjoyed it. Now, that was reaction from some of

:06:55. > :06:58.the people tonight to the performance. It is on again tomorrow

:06:59. > :07:06.night. Another 400 are going to see it. Then they go off to Bromsgrove

:07:07. > :07:10.near Birmingham and 21 venues in England and Scotland. There is a lot

:07:11. > :07:17.more interest in the production now because it had been banned and

:07:18. > :07:20.reinstated by Newtownabbey Council. Ards Borough Council has agreed a

:07:21. > :07:23.plan to save the Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry subject to the

:07:24. > :07:26.approval of the Northern Ireland Executive. Protestors gathered at

:07:27. > :07:30.the council meeting tonight ahead of the decision. If it gets more than

:07:31. > :07:33.?900,000 from the Government to save it, the council says the revamped

:07:34. > :07:41.aquarium will have fewer staff and may introduce seasonal opening. The

:07:42. > :07:44.Shadow Secretary of State Ivan Lewis says he is concerned that three

:07:45. > :07:47.years of consecutive elections could lead to a period of political

:07:48. > :07:50.paralysis in Northern Ireland. Speaking in Belfast today, he said

:07:51. > :07:53.although it was disappointing that no agreement was reached over the

:07:54. > :08:00.Haass proposals, it would be wrong for the British and Irish

:08:01. > :08:04.governments to try to impose a deal. If Northern Ireland stands still, my

:08:05. > :08:07.view is that means it will go backwards and the risk is with the

:08:08. > :08:10.three years of election that will happen. I'm saying today, let's hope

:08:11. > :08:14.the political leaders show the courage, show the strength that's

:08:15. > :08:18.necessary and sometimes that means saying difficult things to one's own

:08:19. > :08:22.supporters. That's the definition of strong and effective leadership.

:08:23. > :08:26.Now with the weather forecast. Here's Cecilia Daly.

:08:27. > :08:32.The rain hasn't stopped completely. There will be showers around

:08:33. > :08:37.tonight, but it won't be as wet as recent nights and there will be dry

:08:38. > :08:42.gaps. Some gaps in the cloud which could lead to patches of ice by

:08:43. > :08:45.tomorrow morning. Watch out for slippery surfaces during the rush

:08:46. > :08:49.hour tomorrow and it will feel colder generally tomorrow. Still

:08:50. > :08:53.showers around. It is worth keeping the umbrella handy, but it won't be

:08:54. > :08:57.raining all the time and there will be dry gaps and brightness at times

:08:58. > :09:00.later on in the day. It will be an icy start for many parts of Scotland

:09:01. > :09:04.and Northern England too. Perhaps down into the Midlands. There will

:09:05. > :09:08.be showers across Northern England and the Midlands through the day and

:09:09. > :09:12.heavy rain moving away from London and the South East. Then we look to

:09:13. > :09:16.the West where rain gradually encrouches into western counties of

:09:17. > :09:19.Ireland and that's coming into Northern Ireland later in the day

:09:20. > :09:22.and to most places tomorrow evening and tomorrow night. Before it

:09:23. > :09:27.arrives, it may brighten up for a time in Belfast and the East.

:09:28. > :09:30.Feeling chilly tomorrow with temperatures of just four or five

:09:31. > :09:35.Celsius. Friday, there is a lot of rain. Some flooding is likely

:09:36. > :09:39.especially across parts of Antrim, Down and Armagh where the rain will

:09:40. > :09:43.be at its heaviest and you can see it is a wash out for a while anyway.

:09:44. > :09:46.Strong winds too especially near the East Coast and the windy weather

:09:47. > :09:50.continues through the weekend. Severe gales likely on Saturday with

:09:51. > :09:53.further showers which will make it feel cold at times. The better of

:09:54. > :09:57.the two days this weekend will be Sunday. Good night.

:09:58. > :10:00.That's it. Good night.
