:00:00. > :00:00.gone wrong with Wales? But now on BBC One, it's time for the news
:00:00. > :00:15.where Good evening. A man from County
:00:16. > :00:18.Tyrone has been killed in an incident at a concrete firm in
:00:19. > :00:21.Dungannon. It happened at Joseph Barrett and Sons on Eglish Road
:00:22. > :00:24.earlier this afternoon. In a statement, the company said they
:00:25. > :00:27.were numbed by the sudden passing of an esteemed colleague and lifelong
:00:28. > :00:30.friend, and extended their sympathies to his wife and children.
:00:31. > :00:40.The Health and Safety Executive is investigating what happened. It is a
:00:41. > :00:44.terrible tragedy, a tragic incident that happened here today and has
:00:45. > :00:48.shocked the entire community. Even the people he works for would be
:00:49. > :00:55.devastated by this affair. It is just one of these things that is
:00:56. > :01:02.terrible and for his wife and all his family, it must be devastating.
:01:03. > :01:04.A fourth man has been given a life sentence for murdering Philip
:01:05. > :01:08.Strickland from Comber. He was shot dead during a dispute
:01:09. > :01:10.with a County Down family two years ago. Stephen McCaughey from
:01:11. > :01:19.Shackleton Walk in Newtownards was convicted today, as Kevin Sharkey
:01:20. > :01:22.reports. An ordinary image, Philip Strickland at a filling station in
:01:23. > :01:28.Comber shortly before being attacked. Within and are of getting
:01:29. > :01:32.petrol and paying for it, he was shot twice, murdered by a father and
:01:33. > :01:37.two sons and one of their friends. A six-week trial ended today. Stephen
:01:38. > :01:41.McCarthy was convicted. The judge asked the jury, have you reached a
:01:42. > :01:48.verdict on the first kind of murder? The jury replied, yes, guilty by
:01:49. > :01:52.majority. Mr justice we're addressed Stephen McCaughey and said, you have
:01:53. > :01:55.been found guilty of murder and the only sentence I can pass is life
:01:56. > :02:01.imprisonment. Also serving life sentences for the murder are Jimmy
:02:02. > :02:07.Seales, convicted yesterday. Here seen here protesting at a Department
:02:08. > :02:11.of Agriculture office in the past. Two of the farmer's sons, Ian and
:02:12. > :02:18.Jason Weir from near Killinchy, have also been convicted. Details of a
:02:19. > :02:23.local dispute preceding the murder emerged during the trial. The pig
:02:24. > :02:29.farmer claimed it began when he told a local man to remove cannabis being
:02:30. > :02:34.grown in a shed he owned. He was later starved and beaten with iron
:02:35. > :02:36.bars. This was followed by Facebook comments and offensive graffiti
:02:37. > :02:40.about the farmer attributed to Philip Strickland. The following
:02:41. > :02:46.year he died after being shot in the leg at his farm, then driven
:02:47. > :02:49.elsewhere and shot in the face. Just over two years later his family was
:02:50. > :02:53.in court for the end of the murder trial. On behalf of my family I
:02:54. > :02:57.would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the police and
:02:58. > :02:59.the legal team for their hard work to successfully convey those
:03:00. > :03:07.responsible for the murder of Philip. -- to successfully convert.
:03:08. > :03:11.It has been a difficult time for us. However we are happy with this
:03:12. > :03:18.outcome and appreciated the support from everyone. Thank you. Two years
:03:19. > :03:24.after he was last seen living a normal life, two men are now
:03:25. > :03:27.convicted for his murder. The Lord Mayor of Belfast has been
:03:28. > :03:30.giving evidence in the trial of three people accused of disorderly
:03:31. > :03:33.conduct at the re-opening of Woodvale Children's Park. Mairtin O
:03:34. > :03:37.Muilleoir of Sinn Fein was jostled and pushed by protestors in the wake
:03:38. > :03:43.of a Twelfth parade being blocked from passing the Ardoyne shops.
:03:44. > :03:50.Eunan McConville reports. August last year, the reopening of a
:03:51. > :03:53.children's park in Belfast and extra police officers are called in to
:03:54. > :03:57.help get the Sinn Fein Lord Mayor Eric amid a loyalist protest. This
:03:58. > :04:00.morning, Mairtin O Muilleoir was in the Magistrates' Court to give
:04:01. > :04:03.evidence against the three people charged with disorderly behaviour,
:04:04. > :04:13.Maureen Simpson, Samuel Brown and Paul McTeer, all from North Belfast.
:04:14. > :04:21.All three deny the charges. The court was shown video footage. From
:04:22. > :04:26.Sinn Fein's publicity website. The Lord Mayor said that when he got to
:04:27. > :04:29.Woodvale Park he became aware of the protesters. He said he got out of
:04:30. > :04:36.the car, some people pushed towards him and he said he was shoved and
:04:37. > :04:39.hit in the back of the head. He was hit with what turned out to be a
:04:40. > :04:43.burger. He told the court that when he made his way back to the car,
:04:44. > :04:49.himself and police officers where attacked and abused. He said he was
:04:50. > :04:56.subjected to a torrent of bile and vitriolic abuse. Lawyers for the
:04:57. > :05:00.defence had put it to the Lord Mayor that the High Sheriff of Belfast had
:05:01. > :05:03.contacted him prior to the park event, urging him to allow a DUP
:05:04. > :05:07.politician to open the park. The Lord Mayor told the court that it
:05:08. > :05:11.was not something in his gift to permit and that he had taken advice
:05:12. > :05:14.from the police before going to Woodvale Park and was told it would
:05:15. > :05:18.be safe. In the afternoon the court was shown some more footage of the
:05:19. > :05:20.event. The evidence centred on what a number of police officers have to
:05:21. > :05:25.say. The case continues. The families of a young man and
:05:26. > :05:28.woman who died from medical complications brought on by eating
:05:29. > :05:32.disorders say more support is needed for sufferers. Laurence Nugent from
:05:33. > :05:42.Belfast and Danielle O'Neill from Londonderry were both 24 years old.
:05:43. > :05:46.Tara Mills has this report. Not the face of someone you would expect to
:05:47. > :05:49.have an eating disorder. To those outside, Laurence Nugent lived a
:05:50. > :05:58.normal life, but he kept a very deep secret. He was totally ashamed of
:05:59. > :06:03.himself. He hated himself. He told us he hated the very look of
:06:04. > :06:08.himself. As a family we lived in turmoil every day. We didn't know
:06:09. > :06:13.whether he was going to be alive when we came home. I used to ring
:06:14. > :06:18.him from work to make sure he was alive. You were very afraid for him.
:06:19. > :06:23.Sadly, their fears were realised, but not how they expected. He died
:06:24. > :06:28.from a heart attack, the bulimia and starvation taking its toll on his
:06:29. > :06:37.body. He didn't trust anybody. He was afraid to tell his friends, to
:06:38. > :06:43.say he couldn't cope. Yu was ashamed to say he was not being the man. I
:06:44. > :06:49.am saying to every young man out there in Northern Ireland do not be
:06:50. > :06:52.afraid because this can kill you. Another family shares a similar
:06:53. > :06:58.story. Adelaide O'Neill lost her daughter to anorexia. Her descent
:06:59. > :07:02.into the illness was much more rapid than Lawrence's. I would say to
:07:03. > :07:05.anybody out there, eating disorders don't have any respect for anybody.
:07:06. > :07:09.Danielle would have been the last person I would have thought would
:07:10. > :07:14.have had an eating disorder. She said, I never intended to be this
:07:15. > :07:23.thin. It was never my intention. It was almost as though it was a
:07:24. > :07:27.roller-coaster for her. Danielle had excellent help, but sadly it wasn't
:07:28. > :07:32.enough. Her mum believes young people don't realise the permanent
:07:33. > :07:35.damage an eating disorder can cause. Both families now have to live with
:07:36. > :07:41.every treatment. A difficult journey lies ahead but if speaking out helps
:07:42. > :07:44.just one other family, they say their loss will not have been in
:07:45. > :07:48.vain. A judge has told a Belfast mother
:07:49. > :07:50.had it not been for her four children she would be facing an
:07:51. > :07:53.immediate jail sentence. Gillian Turtle from Glenbryn Parade had
:07:54. > :07:58.claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit of more than ?100,000 over
:07:59. > :08:02.eight years. The court was told she had denied her partner, who had a
:08:03. > :08:06.job, was living with her, but later admitted he did and said she thought
:08:07. > :08:11.she could get away with it. Her 18-month jail sentence was suspended
:08:12. > :08:14.for three years. The Health Minister, Edwin Poots,
:08:15. > :08:17.has requested a meeting with the Secretary of State about the closure
:08:18. > :08:20.of a charity-run coffee shop and walled garden at Hillsborough
:08:21. > :08:26.Castle. The Secret Garden is run by Praxis Care and employs people with
:08:27. > :08:30.learning difficulties. The agreement with the Castle estate is coming to
:08:31. > :08:37.an end and the charity must find new premises. Today, the Northern
:08:38. > :08:41.Ireland Office said it was willing to be flexible about the timescale
:08:42. > :08:48.for it leaving the walled garden. The weather forecast is next. It was
:08:49. > :08:52.good to see some dry weather today. A little brightness as well. There
:08:53. > :08:57.is some rain moving back into Fermanagh, and a few dribs and drabs
:08:58. > :09:02.moving east, enough cloud to keep the frost and ice awake at first
:09:03. > :09:08.thing tomorrow could be down. Most of Wednesday will end up reasonably
:09:09. > :09:12.dry and bright. First thing some mist and low cloud over the hills
:09:13. > :09:16.and drizzly rain. It shouldn't be long before it brightens in the
:09:17. > :09:19.second half of the morning and then a good part of the date will be dry.
:09:20. > :09:24.Some brightness also for the Republic of Ireland, bits and pieces
:09:25. > :09:30.of rain over Scotland and northern England but a lot of dry weather
:09:31. > :09:35.across Britain. The next area of rain moves into the west and south
:09:36. > :09:38.of Ireland tomorrow afternoon. That will move toward south Wales and
:09:39. > :09:43.south-west England and it is coming our way tomorrow night but before
:09:44. > :09:49.then the afternoon will not be too bad, the odd shower but reasonably
:09:50. > :09:53.dry, temperatures up to 10 degrees. That of a breeze towards the east
:09:54. > :09:58.coast and by tea-time it is raining and that will extend east, so some
:09:59. > :10:02.wet weather into Thursday morning, once again quite mild that there
:10:03. > :10:05.will be strong winds through the night and it will still be wet and
:10:06. > :10:10.windy for a while on Thursday and the East, but brightening up with
:10:11. > :10:14.showers moving in from the West and those could get wintry. Feeling
:10:15. > :10:20.colder on Friday with sunshine and showers.
:10:21. > :10:23.BBC Newsline is back here at 6:25am. Good night.
:10:24. > :10:25.Should Britain have entered the Great War?
:10:26. > :10:28.Britain's decision for war was a disaster
:10:29. > :10:31.not just for this country, but also for the entire world.
:10:32. > :10:36.What if we'd stayed out? What if Germany had won?
