:00:00. > :00:00.of those living with HIV. Don't forget, there is

:00:00. > :00:16.Good evening. A county Tyrone teenager accused of murdering his

:00:17. > :00:18.father has been found guilty of manslaughter, on the grounds of

:00:19. > :00:21.diminished responsibility. Sean Hackett had always admitted shooting

:00:22. > :00:25.his father Aloysius at their family home last year, but his defence said

:00:26. > :00:33.he was mentally disturbed at the time. Julian Fowler was in the

:00:34. > :00:37.court. Shaun Hackett's family arriving in court with their

:00:38. > :00:42.solicitor. The legal team argued that he had killed his father in the

:00:43. > :00:47.erashal belief he would become his guardian in heaven.

:00:48. > :00:52.The prosecution argued that he was a cold, calculating manipulative

:00:53. > :00:58.killer, who was not suffering from a recognised mental disorder. The

:00:59. > :01:02.Tyrone manager, had given evidence of Shaun's promising future as a

:01:03. > :01:09.talented footballer. Describing him as a quiet, unassuming lovely young

:01:10. > :01:14.gentleman. The trial heard conflicting evidence about his mind

:01:15. > :01:20.at the time of the killing. In his summing up, the judge told the jury,

:01:21. > :01:26.all killings are abhorrent, all killings are truly horrific. People

:01:27. > :01:33.act abnormally, but does not mean that they are suffering with an

:01:34. > :01:36.unrecognised mental condition. It was argued that there was something

:01:37. > :01:41.in the young man's head that was badly wrong. And that a finding of

:01:42. > :01:44.diminished responsibility would be a right verdict, a just verdict and

:01:45. > :01:53.the proper verdict. After two-and-a-half hours of

:01:54. > :01:58.deliberation, the jury agreed. Shaun Hackett was unable to show much

:01:59. > :02:04.emotion when he was said not to be guilty of murder but guilty of

:02:05. > :02:08.manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. As he was

:02:09. > :02:19.led from the courtroom, his mother gave him the thumbs up, say saying

:02:20. > :02:24."I love you "woep Heline in court next month.

:02:25. > :02:28.Four brothers have been jailed for up to 11 years each for killing a

:02:29. > :02:31.couple in County Armagh. Thomas O'Hare and Lisa McClatchey died in

:02:32. > :02:38.2006 after their remote cottage near Tassagh was set on fire. This report

:02:39. > :02:42.from Gordon Adair. Thomas O'Hare and Lisa McClatchey died from their

:02:43. > :02:50.horic injuries that they received in the fire that destroyed this

:02:51. > :02:54.cottage, a fire started by four brothers. In December they were all

:02:55. > :03:00.found guilty of manslaughter. Today their mother and other rel tifs went

:03:01. > :03:06.in the public gallery. Niall Smith was jailed for ten years, his

:03:07. > :03:11.brothers 11 years each. Niall Smith's sentence reduced as he had

:03:12. > :03:18.pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The lawyers sent out pleas for the

:03:19. > :03:25.motivation, discussing on the o attack. A lawyer for Stephen Smith

:03:26. > :03:29.smoke spoke of his client's shame, saying that what happened to him

:03:30. > :03:35.could never justify the attack. Referring to the time that elapsed

:03:36. > :03:41.between the date of the abuse and the time he finally felt able to

:03:42. > :03:45.tell others, the lawyer said it was important to reflect on the seven

:03:46. > :03:50.years. Saying that his client tried to deal with what happened by

:03:51. > :03:55.ignoring it, while it gnawed away at the back of his mind. A lawyer for

:03:56. > :04:01.Martin Smith said that he had planned the attack but prior to this

:04:02. > :04:06.had been a model citizen, but that the make-up of Martin Smith was that

:04:07. > :04:10.of the brig brother with a big sense of guilt about what happened to his

:04:11. > :04:16.little brother and that he had been been unaware of it and unable to

:04:17. > :04:26.protect him, but the judge made it clear that there could be no excuse.

:04:27. > :04:31.The victims' families declined to make any comment. The victim impact

:04:32. > :04:39.statements were not read out in court and the insight into how the

:04:40. > :04:43.killings had affected their lives were given, was shown when the judge

:04:44. > :04:52.said that it was clear that many would never get over what had

:04:53. > :04:58.happened. Security forces have found a viable

:04:59. > :05:02.device in Londonderry. Bomb disposal experts are still on the scene.

:05:03. > :05:06.An Ulster Unionist MLA has claimed there could be another 'On the Run'

:05:07. > :05:09.letter that has been sent out by mistake. His comments come after the

:05:10. > :05:12.trial of John Downey collapsed in London because he was mistakenly

:05:13. > :05:16.issued with a letter. The UUP's Danny Kinahan says his party is

:05:17. > :05:21.aware of a similar case here. It has come to our notice, that there may

:05:22. > :05:25.well have been one letter a comfort letter, if we call them that, that

:05:26. > :05:30.has been issued wrongly in Northern Ireland. It may be that same letters

:05:31. > :05:33.has been used to stop prosecution or defence of somebody in the criminal

:05:34. > :05:39.court in Northern Ireland. We want to get to the bottom of it. We want

:05:40. > :05:45.to find out has this gone on, do we know every case of every letter, did

:05:46. > :05:50.the Justice Minister know and if he knew, we need to know how many have

:05:51. > :05:55.gone out, and why we are not being told about it? There is more on that

:05:56. > :05:58.story on the View after this bulletin.

:05:59. > :06:01.The police have started an investigation into who sent a bullet

:06:02. > :06:05.in the post to a school in Tobermore in County Londonderry. The incident

:06:06. > :06:09.is being treated as a hate crime. Louise Cullen reports. The

:06:10. > :06:16.investigation began this morning after the letter was received at the

:06:17. > :06:21.primary school on the outskirts of the village of toesh more. --

:06:22. > :06:24.Tobermore. Parents were called here, when they were told when had

:06:25. > :06:28.happened this morning. The school said that the incident was in the

:06:29. > :06:31.hands of the police it is understood that the target may have been a

:06:32. > :06:35.family of a child at the school, rather than the child itself. The

:06:36. > :06:38.police confirmed that they were treating the incident as a hate

:06:39. > :06:42.crime. The school is a place where we are

:06:43. > :06:47.sending our children to be educated. They should not be discriminated for

:06:48. > :06:50.against colour, creed, religion. For this to happen in Tobermore is

:06:51. > :06:56.madness. The investigation is continuing.

:06:57. > :07:00.The Belfast taxi firm - Fonacab - has apologised to a gay couple who

:07:01. > :07:03.say they were thrown out of one of its taxis for kissing. It happened

:07:04. > :07:07.on Tuesday night when the driver was taking a group of students to a gay

:07:08. > :07:10.nightclub in the city centre. The firm is one of city's biggest taxi

:07:11. > :07:13.companies and has recently sponsored Belfast Pride, an LGBT festival. One

:07:14. > :07:16.of the passengers in the taxi explained to the Talkback radio

:07:17. > :07:19.programme what happened: We were driving down the road, Stuart leaned

:07:20. > :07:22.over and kissed me on the cheek and the neck. The tax dri driver saw it

:07:23. > :07:26.and told us to stop and pulled over and told us to get out.

:07:27. > :07:34.We were stunned. We said "are you serious? ." . He said he did not

:07:35. > :07:38.want it in the car. We've had a lot of reaction to this

:07:39. > :07:41.story on our social media page and some people have said that they can

:07:42. > :07:44.understand the taxi driver not wanting to see open displays of

:07:45. > :07:47.affection. Gavin Boyd from the Rainbow Project spoke to us earlier

:07:48. > :07:49.on BBC Newsline. That is everyone's right to not wanting to see

:07:50. > :07:52.affection, however, you cannot say if it is two men or two women

:07:53. > :07:55.kissing that is beyond the pale. Whereas if it is a young man or a

:07:56. > :07:59.woman, it is not treated the same. And in the last in our series of

:08:00. > :08:03.stories marking the start of World War One, we'll be hearing about a

:08:04. > :08:09.mysterious German who made his home near a lead mine in Conlig and how

:08:10. > :08:18.he was put on trial for espionage. He had details of what was alleged

:08:19. > :08:22.to be the Orloch signal station. He had maps, he had railway timetables.

:08:23. > :08:31.All sorts of things that seemed to show clearly that he was a spy.

:08:32. > :08:36.And finally on to the weather with Geoff Maskell.

:08:37. > :08:42.It has been a grey and a miserable day today. The skies will clear and

:08:43. > :08:48.the temperatures dipping away. A chilly night, two to four Celsius,

:08:49. > :08:53.but tomorrow promising to be a good bit better. Dry and a little on the

:08:54. > :08:58.breezy side, but an improvement. Showers in the early part of the

:08:59. > :09:03.day, then the skies clear and then finally a little bit of sunshine.

:09:04. > :09:07.Then a north/south split. Look at the strong winds into Northern

:09:08. > :09:10.Ireland and Scotland. Across England and Wales, a calmer picture there,

:09:11. > :09:15.the high pressure is very much more in charge. As we go through the day,

:09:16. > :09:20.we have cool temperatures but clear skies. So a very different feel to

:09:21. > :09:25.the day tomorrow to what we have been used to over the last few days.

:09:26. > :09:30.It is not going to last as we head into the weekend. We have another

:09:31. > :09:35.low pressure system on the way. This is going to bring rain and strong

:09:36. > :09:40.winds in over the weekend. So as we go into Saturday, the rain is back

:09:41. > :09:46.with us. It means milder temperatures but not the nicest of

:09:47. > :09:50.days. On Sunday, we are to see that rainy and showery start. The

:09:51. > :09:54.temperatures dropping away, but through Sunday it starts to pick up.

:09:55. > :09:58.The good news is that by the time we get to next week, the high pressure

:09:59. > :10:02.is in charge, and things should be more settled.

:10:03. > :10:03.And that's it for now. Good night.
