:00:00. > 3:59:59well. More details if you want to go on the website. That's
:00:00. > :00:19.This is BBC Newsline. The headlines this Monday evening: Dissident
:00:20. > :00:25.Republicans claim newly acquired Semtex was used in a mortar bomb
:00:26. > :00:35.attack at the weekend. There's condemnation of racists who petrol
:00:36. > :00:41.bombed this home. Whoever is responsible, this does no cause any
:00:42. > :00:45.good. Going green around the globe as St Patrick's Day is celebrated
:00:46. > :00:48.home and away. And there are celebrations for the Ireland Rugby
:00:49. > :00:52.and cricket teams - plus we have all the winners from today's schools
:00:53. > :00:56.finals. The dry spell is coming to an end with more unsettled weather
:00:57. > :01:02.heading this way. I'll have the details shortly.
:01:03. > :01:08.Dissident Republicans claim to have used newly acquired Semtex in a bomb
:01:09. > :01:11.attack on a police Land Rover in west Belfast on Friday night. A
:01:12. > :01:14.family escaped injury when their car was hit by debris from the
:01:15. > :01:17.explosion. The police have appealed for information about the attack,
:01:18. > :01:20.believed to have been carried out by the group calling itself the IRA,
:01:21. > :01:23.which killed prison officer David Black in November 2012. Our Home
:01:24. > :01:35.Affairs Correspondent Vincent Kearney has this exclusive report.
:01:36. > :01:40.Damaged masonry and mangled metal are the only evidence of what
:01:41. > :01:51.happened here four days ago. A mortar bomb was fired from a tube as
:01:52. > :01:56.a police Land Rover drove along the Falls Road. Scorch marks suggest the
:01:57. > :02:01.device was fired from a tube attached to these railings. It may
:02:02. > :02:10.not have fired have intended. Dissident Republicans say the device
:02:11. > :02:15.contained Semtex. They said both were newly-acquired, in other words
:02:16. > :02:20.not from old supplies under the control of Provisional IRA. If that
:02:21. > :02:24.is true it will be of huge concern to the police and Security Services.
:02:25. > :02:29.The police have said all weapons and explosives used by dissident
:02:30. > :02:40.Republicans were prooefs youly -- previously controlled by the IRA.
:02:41. > :02:47.They included these weapons used in the killing of Ronan Kerr. The find
:02:48. > :02:56.included a quality of Semtex, but it was very years old. There is no way
:02:57. > :02:59.to verify the claim. If it did acquire newly-acquired Semtex it
:03:00. > :03:05.will be the first evidence that dissidents have managed to secure a
:03:06. > :03:10.fresh supply. Whatever the nature of the device one family had a lucky
:03:11. > :03:16.escape after their car was hit by debris. Therm coming -- they were
:03:17. > :03:21.coming home from a party. I thought in up with just click I could lose
:03:22. > :03:29.my life. It is not fair, because they might hurt a civilian or even
:03:30. > :03:33.the police was guarding us. It won't happen again. A west Belfast MP
:03:34. > :03:37.criticised those responsible for the attack and the time it took the
:03:38. > :03:43.police to respond. He said it was around an hour and a half before
:03:44. > :03:49.police officers carried out a search. I have been on the phone to
:03:50. > :03:54.the PSNI from the moment I heard the explosion. The PSNI have yet to
:03:55. > :03:57.appear on the scene, which is unacceptable. The ambulance have
:03:58. > :04:04.arrived and you have arrived. There is a mar key down the road with 500
:04:05. > :04:08.people in. But the PSNI have not arrived. I think that is
:04:09. > :04:14.unacceptable. The police say it was only through good fortune that
:04:15. > :04:21.officers or civilians were not injured or killed. A pipebomb's been
:04:22. > :04:24.defused in south Belfast. Police and army bomb officers discovered what
:04:25. > :04:28.they described as a crude but viable device at Donegall Avenue. And the
:04:29. > :04:31.Waterworks Park in the north of the city was closed at the Cliftonville
:04:32. > :04:35.Road following the discovery of a suspicious object this morning. A
:04:36. > :04:38.number of homes were evacuated while army technical officers carried out
:04:39. > :04:46.a controlled explosion. Police have since declared it a hoax. A racist
:04:47. > :04:49.motive is thought to be behind a petrol bomb attack on a car in
:04:50. > :04:52.Newtownabbey last night. It happened in Ballyronan Park in Rathcoole. The
:04:53. > :05:00.car was destroyed in the fire. Eunan McConville reports. Still visible
:05:01. > :05:04.today, the foam used to douse the flames that engulfed the car parked
:05:05. > :05:09.on this driveway. It is understood the people in the house were foreign
:05:10. > :05:13.national, but no one was there today. The police say that the
:05:14. > :05:19.attack happened at around 9.30 last night. They received a report that
:05:20. > :05:24.the car was on fire. It is dreadful. We can't get by these problems. They
:05:25. > :05:28.just keep reoccurring. You wonder when it is going to end. But the
:05:29. > :05:34.police are not giving a lot away on this. And neither are the people who
:05:35. > :05:38.live here. So there is an element of fear involved. It is believed the
:05:39. > :05:45.windows of car were broken before it was set alight. The house was also
:05:46. > :05:50.attacked with the windows being smashed. The exact circumstances
:05:51. > :05:54.behind the attack remain unclear and people who I have spoke to said they
:05:55. > :06:00.didn't see anything. One person heard something, but knows nothing
:06:01. > :06:07.about the attack. But the police are treating it as a hate crime. There
:06:08. > :06:10.has been some minor trouble in Belfast City Centre. Youths
:06:11. > :06:13.confronted police and a number for bottles were thrown. The police
:06:14. > :06:16.marshalled the youths - many draped in the tricolour - around city
:06:17. > :06:22.centre locations like Castle Street and Cornmarket. The crowd eventually
:06:23. > :06:26.dispersed. Last week we brought you the story of the families worried
:06:27. > :06:30.about the standards of care for eating disorders here. A man whose
:06:31. > :06:33.daughter is now being treated at a specialist unit in London told us in
:06:34. > :06:37.his view staff here lack the expertise to treat the complex
:06:38. > :06:45.condition. And another patient told us she feels her condition has
:06:46. > :06:53.worsened since she had treatment. They changed my medication and I had
:06:54. > :06:59.ECT for six weeks, that was 12 sessions. And most days were I was
:07:00. > :07:09.just sat on the bed or walked around the ward. Just there wasn't really
:07:10. > :07:14.much to do. Other aspects of the regime that quite soon seemed to be
:07:15. > :07:20.peculiar were thing like a complete ban on any kind of exercise, any
:07:21. > :07:26.kind of fresh air, any kind of home visit. She was kept inside for two
:07:27. > :07:32.or three months, without breathing fresh air, except when she was taken
:07:33. > :07:35.to a different hospital. Well following the broadcast the British
:07:36. > :07:38.Psychological Society has called for a rethink in how we care for
:07:39. > :07:41.patients with eating disorders. Their local chair Dr Ciaran Shannon
:07:42. > :07:46.is with us now. Are you surprised by the experience of these families?
:07:47. > :07:51.Well, I think the board and the trust had invested heavily in the
:07:52. > :07:56.last number of years in the creation of specialist eating disorder
:07:57. > :08:03.services. That has improved people's care, I have no doubt about it.
:08:04. > :08:09.Staff in those services are highly committed staff and often struggle,
:08:10. > :08:13.with mental health being the Cinderella of the health service. Of
:08:14. > :08:19.all of those, eating disorder services set up in Northern Ireland,
:08:20. > :08:24.not a single one contains a clinical psychologist. That is shocking. How
:08:25. > :08:32.is that different from the rest of the UK? 21st Century mental health
:08:33. > :08:39.care should be a comprehensive team delivering a comprehensive range of
:08:40. > :08:46.interventions, psyche Colling -- psychology and education and have a
:08:47. > :08:50.multidisciplinary team. There is no clinical psychologist in Northern
:08:51. > :08:56.Ireland. What could you do that psychiatrists are not doing? One of
:08:57. > :09:02.the important skills of a sky Coll gist -- psychologist, we have eight
:09:03. > :09:08.years it takes to become a psychologist. We have a broad range
:09:09. > :09:12.of treatments for individuals, individual treatments for
:09:13. > :09:15.individual. That is important if the individual has complex needs and a
:09:16. > :09:19.range of things going on for them. Is there any evidence to suggest
:09:20. > :09:25.that you get better outcomes than say a psychiatrist? The main focus
:09:26. > :09:30.of an eating disorder team should be on psychological interventions. That
:09:31. > :09:34.team should include a clinical psychologist. Why does it not in
:09:35. > :09:39.Northern Ireland? I think mental health is such an important area in
:09:40. > :09:44.Northern Ireland. We have high levels of mental illness. It is the
:09:45. > :09:49.legacy of the Troubles and high deprivation. We are again the
:09:50. > :09:53.Cinderella of those services. Are you lobbying hard enough to say to
:09:54. > :09:57.the National Health Service we need the funding? I'm saying it tonight.
:09:58. > :10:04.We have said it again and again. We need more funding in member Tall --
:10:05. > :10:09.mental health and clinical psychologists in specialist teams.
:10:10. > :10:13.Thank you. You're watching BBC Newsline. Still to come on the
:10:14. > :10:17.programme: A carnival of colour as thousands turn out to St Patrick's
:10:18. > :10:23.Day. Stay with us for all the pictures from parades across
:10:24. > :10:28.Northern Ireland. The local rugby world has been celebrating Ireland's
:10:29. > :10:31.Six Nations title success. We'll be hearing from the players and coach
:10:32. > :10:35.Joe Schmidt shortly, but first a taste of how the win has been
:10:36. > :10:38.greeted in rugby clubs here. BBC Newsline's Martin Cassidy was there
:10:39. > :10:41.to savour the atmosphere and tension of Saturday's big match at one our
:10:42. > :10:55.biggest clubs - Ballynahinch in County Down. As they gathered, Brian
:10:56. > :11:00.O'Driscoll and his team carried the hopes of clubs across the land. The
:11:01. > :11:07.interest levels are on the rise and things like that just take us you
:11:08. > :11:14.know, it is fantastic. Superb for Irish rugby and Ulster rugby and for
:11:15. > :11:18.local clubs. But no one underestimated the size of the task.
:11:19. > :11:24.Ireland needed to win in France forren the o' second - for only the
:11:25. > :11:28.second time in 40 years. We're in the presence of somebody special. He
:11:29. > :11:35.scored a hat trick. Can he go out in trial? It is great for Brian
:11:36. > :11:39.O'Driscoll to have the win on his last day. He started his career in
:11:40. > :11:44.France and he had finished with a Championship in France. It is very
:11:45. > :11:52.fitting. I'm sure the team will be delighted they have done that for
:11:53. > :12:00.him. A good flick! Tries by Sexton and Trimble raised hopes. But
:12:01. > :12:04.Ireland still trailed 13-12 at the break. My hair was black when the
:12:05. > :12:10.match started! The second half was no less dramatic. The French
:12:11. > :12:14.attacked, but Ireland countered. But there are more nail-minutes before
:12:15. > :12:20.victory for Ireland and the sweet taste of Six Nations success.
:12:21. > :12:26.Fantastic. What a fantastic match. Edge of the seat stuff all the way
:12:27. > :12:33.through. For us at the club, just incredible. We are delighted.
:12:34. > :12:36.Well, it's another St Patrick's day and the day is turning into a global
:12:37. > :12:40.celebration. Many landmarks around the world have been going green as
:12:41. > :12:43.part of Tourism Ireland's global greening campaign. And here are just
:12:44. > :12:47.some of them. The leaning tower of Pisa in Italy has turned green for
:12:48. > :12:52.the occasion. And in Australia, the Sydney Opera House has taken on a
:12:53. > :12:55.greeny hue. There was more than a hint of the Shamrock in America
:12:56. > :13:00.where the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign got the green treatment.
:13:01. > :13:03.It's possible to see the Great Wall of China from outer space. Well,
:13:04. > :13:07.that view is all the more spectacular now that it has been lit
:13:08. > :13:16.up in shades of emerald green. And even Christ the Redeemer in Brazil
:13:17. > :13:20.is now looking decidedly green. Back at home, up to 30,000 people
:13:21. > :13:22.turned out for the annual St Patrick's Day parade in Downpatrick
:13:23. > :13:25.this afternoon. Other parades took place in Armagh,
:13:26. > :13:28.Enniskillen and Dublin. Belfast held its parade a day before everyone
:13:29. > :13:34.else, with one of the biggest crowds ever joining the fun. Michael
:13:35. > :13:38.Fitzpatrick reports. Saint Patrick was at the centre of
:13:39. > :13:43.the celebrations on the streets of the ancient town where the patron
:13:44. > :13:46.saint is said to be buried. A colourful mixture of acrobats,
:13:47. > :13:50.musicians and dancers made their way through the town, with the footpaths
:13:51. > :13:54.lined with thousands of people talking up the party atmosphere.
:13:55. > :14:04.Even the snakes from this local pet shop were allowed to join the party.
:14:05. > :14:09.And atmosphere, the way I like it! It's fantastic, and the weather is
:14:10. > :14:13.lovely for it. So I'm really enjoying it. It's really good fun.
:14:14. > :14:21.She's loving it, are you not? It is from! Today's parade marks the
:14:22. > :14:25.commendation of a week-long test will celebrating Saint Patrick and
:14:26. > :14:29.his connection to the town. -- marks the end of a week-long celebration.
:14:30. > :14:34.This year, it has not disappointed. In Enniskillen, there was a watery
:14:35. > :14:40.theme to the parade. They did not rule the whole way. The organisers
:14:41. > :14:45.were denied the turnout. There has been a great success. Brilliant
:14:46. > :14:51.turnouts. When you think that all of the local people can organise this,
:14:52. > :14:55.great community support. In Omagh, the theme was celebrating cultures.
:14:56. > :15:00.A great crowd turned out to watch the parade and enjoy an open-air
:15:01. > :15:04.concert on the town centre. Belfast got its St Patrick's Day
:15:05. > :15:07.celebrations underway 24-hour is earlier than usual. They said they
:15:08. > :15:11.wanted to give everybody the opportunity to attend and it
:15:12. > :15:17.appeared to be off, with one of the biggest crowds in recent years. The
:15:18. > :15:21.biggest parade on the island was in Dublin, where up to 500,000 people
:15:22. > :15:28.lined the streets in a celebration all things Irish. The parade may be
:15:29. > :15:31.long over but for many, the party is only just starting.
:15:32. > :15:35.There were huge crowds in Londonderry too, from where our
:15:36. > :15:45.north west reporter, Keiron Tourish, sent this round up of all the
:15:46. > :15:49.events. Thousands took to the streets for
:15:50. > :15:54.the carnival parade. A sea of colour and spectacle. It made its way along
:15:55. > :16:03.Queen's and in and around the centre of the city. More than 600 people
:16:04. > :16:09.spent months repairing their floats. They came in all shapes and sizes.
:16:10. > :16:15.It is really good. It was really enjoyable. I thought it went well.
:16:16. > :16:21.Brilliant! Good on all of them for making the effort. It was great,
:16:22. > :16:31.excellent, gorgeous, we loved it. Greetings from Poland! I didn't see
:16:32. > :16:34.it, I was at bingo! The place was alive with the sound of many
:16:35. > :16:42.performers, leading up to its name of music city 2014. The legendary
:16:43. > :16:49.food festival proved a major attraction.
:16:50. > :16:57.For the adventures, there was even a chance to learn a few traditional
:16:58. > :17:00.steps. The theme for 2014 was music, myth and magic and it certainly did
:17:01. > :17:08.not disappoint the thousands who turned out despite the weather.
:17:09. > :17:10.Well, a busy day would be an understatement for sport.
:17:11. > :17:14.With the sport, here's Stephen Watson and no surprise that the
:17:15. > :17:17.Ireland rugby team are top billing. They certainly do. It has been a
:17:18. > :17:20.very busy day. We'll have all the traditional St
:17:21. > :17:23.Patrick's Day Schools sport for you as well. But we start by reflecting
:17:24. > :17:26.on Ireland's Six Nations success. The Ireland team arrived home
:17:27. > :17:29.yesterday to a hero's welcome in Dublin, after securing just their
:17:30. > :17:32.second Championship victory since 1985. The trophy being safely held
:17:33. > :17:35.by Brian O'Driscoll at the back of the court. And they won this one in
:17:36. > :17:46.dramatic fashion. Thomas Niblock looks back on a memorable weekend.
:17:47. > :17:50.The Six Nations belongs to captain Paul O'Connell and Ireland. And for
:17:51. > :17:54.the very last time, Brian O'Driscoll. Last year, Ireland
:17:55. > :17:58.finished joint bottom of the Championship. Under their new
:17:59. > :18:03.coach, they finished top. There are a few unsung heroes. There is the
:18:04. > :18:13.standout champions like Brian and Paul but I thought Eric was
:18:14. > :18:19.outstanding last night. I thought that some of those guys who really
:18:20. > :18:27.worked hard in behind-the-scenes. Chris Henry had another super game.
:18:28. > :18:31.They dominated the first half. I could probably keep naming names
:18:32. > :18:37.because I think it was a super team performance. It is probably even
:18:38. > :18:41.slightly more than the Grand Slam because obviously, with Brian
:18:42. > :18:46.playing his last game in dividend, there was so much emotion, so much
:18:47. > :18:51.at stake and they had to dig deep and it was great to get the win. The
:18:52. > :18:56.calm before the storm, the travelling support nervously local.
:18:57. > :19:04.We only need to win, not by much, just a little win would do! Come on
:19:05. > :19:09.the Irish! Come on Yaris! Once Saint Patrick took his seat, the drama
:19:10. > :19:16.unfolded. -- come on the Irish. Ireland scored the first try. And
:19:17. > :19:23.the Irish Sea and in control when he scored again in the second half.
:19:24. > :19:31.France then scored a try that should have been disallowed. COMMENTATOR:
:19:32. > :19:33.He has brought that. Oh! In Ireland looked to have lost it right at the
:19:34. > :19:36.very end. He has brought that. Oh! In Ireland
:19:37. > :19:44.looked to have COMMENTATOR: To me, that if a forward pass. But it was a
:19:45. > :19:48.forward pass, meaning the tried and Ireland clinched the Championship. I
:19:49. > :19:55.have never been so tired in my life. We put in eight weeks really, really
:19:56. > :20:01.hard work and for me, this is the highest point of my career. And the
:20:02. > :20:05.hard work has paid off and it means so much. So many seconds along the
:20:06. > :20:11.years and so many disappointments here. It is great to finish on a
:20:12. > :20:18.high. My last game in this magnificent jersey and... When I do
:20:19. > :20:24.hang it up on the hook inside, it will be with very fond memories.
:20:25. > :20:28.Memories for Brian, memories for an entire rugby nation.
:20:29. > :20:32.Fantastic occasion. There was drama today for Ireland's
:20:33. > :20:35.cricketers as well. The team got off to a winning start at the World
:20:36. > :20:38.Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh. They beat Zimbabwe by three wickets
:20:39. > :20:40.in their opening group game of the tournament. But Ireland were made to
:20:41. > :20:50.sweat for victory. This was a game or Ireland seemed to
:20:51. > :20:55.have everything under control. COMMENTATOR: And what a catch! The
:20:56. > :21:02.restricted Zimbabwe to an innings of 163. With William Porterfield and
:21:03. > :21:07.Paul Sterling putting on 80 runs for their first wicket, Ireland appeared
:21:08. > :21:14.to be cruising home. Things got worse with four balls to go. Ireland
:21:15. > :21:18.needed just two runs to win and with the very next ball, it got worse.
:21:19. > :21:22.COMMENTATOR: We've got to hit the stubs, yes they have! Umpire's
:21:23. > :21:30.finger has gone up. What is happening? It went to the last ball
:21:31. > :21:36.with 11 needed to win. And Ireland somehow scrambled home. COMMENTATOR:
:21:37. > :21:40.He misses it. It has got to hit the stumps. It has missed them. Next up
:21:41. > :21:44.for Ireland is the UAE on Wednesday, if your nerves can handle
:21:45. > :21:47.that. Methodist College won the rugby
:21:48. > :21:51.schools' Cup for the third year in a row and the 37th time in total.
:21:52. > :21:56.They beat Sullivan Upper of Holywood in the final at Ravenhill. Two tries
:21:57. > :21:59.by Conor McKee put Methody firmly in control of the game early on, before
:22:00. > :22:01.Sullivan responded with a fine score of their own through a determined
:22:02. > :22:04.Chris Jordan. by Conor McKee put Methody firmly in
:22:05. > :22:09.control But Alastair McIvor then went over for the holder's third try
:22:10. > :22:12.before half-time. Johnny Betts revived Sullivan's hopes briefly in
:22:13. > :22:15.the second half, before Josh Jordan and Rory Cairns scored two more
:22:16. > :22:29.tries for Methody for a decisive 27-12 victory and a third straight
