:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from us. Don't forget a first look at the papers over on the
:00:00. > :00:10.BBC A former IRA leader has been charged
:00:11. > :00:16.in connection with the abduction and murder of Jean McConville in 1972.
:00:17. > :00:19.She was one of the so-called Disappeared, a group of 16 people
:00:20. > :00:30.who were shot and secretly buried by the IRA.
:00:31. > :00:33.In the 70s, Ivory Bell was a senior leader in the provisional IRA, who
:00:34. > :00:37.along with Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness, was part of a delegation
:00:38. > :00:42.that had secret talks with the British government. He was arrested
:00:43. > :00:45.at his home on Tuesday in connection with the disappearance of Jean
:00:46. > :00:50.McConville. She was kidnapped in front of her ten children, accused
:00:51. > :00:53.of having been an informer. That Kim was later dismissed following an
:00:54. > :00:57.official investigation. Despite numerous digs on a desolate beaches
:00:58. > :01:03.in the Irish Republic, her body was not found until 2003 when a man
:01:04. > :01:08.walking his dog stumbled upon her remains. I've Bell is expected to
:01:09. > :01:12.appear in court in the morning. The man who died after the boat he
:01:13. > :01:16.was in sank in Lough Ree in County Westmeath has been named locally as
:01:17. > :01:20.David Warnock from Armagh. Mr Warnock who was in his 20s was on a
:01:21. > :01:25.fishing trip with two friends when the accident happened. One of them
:01:26. > :01:35.is still missing and the other is critically ill in hospital.
:01:36. > :01:40.The men had planned a camping and fishing expedition on Lough Ree,
:01:41. > :01:45.their boat full of equipment. When weather conditions did, a local man
:01:46. > :01:50.was quick to the alarm. You could see that the lads had a passion for
:01:51. > :02:00.what they were doing, that was very thing, their sport and they loved
:02:01. > :02:11.it. The last thing I said to the lads was, be safe and enjoy
:02:12. > :02:14.yourselves. The lifeboat found two men in the water and brought them
:02:15. > :02:20.ashore. Searchers have been continuing for the third man and the
:02:21. > :02:27.boat. Where the search is going on, it is about three miles from side to
:02:28. > :02:38.side. It was a big area of water and it is quite deep. Strong winds can
:02:39. > :02:47.make choppy waves very quickly. I think that is maybe what could them
:02:48. > :02:52.by surprise. Searchers have been taking place along the shore and on
:02:53. > :02:56.the surface of the water and divers have been looking beneath the water.
:02:57. > :03:04.Local fishermen have also joined in the search. The group of lads that
:03:05. > :03:11.were fishing where from a club and like ourselves, but liked the water.
:03:12. > :03:17.Now it is an anxious wait for news. I have spoken briefly to some people
:03:18. > :03:24.here and it is very raw and emotional. There was not a lot said
:03:25. > :03:27.but we will see how we go later on. Two parents have pleaded guilty to a
:03:28. > :03:31.litany of sexual abuse and other offences against their children over
:03:32. > :03:35.three decades. Two of the children's uncles and two other men pleaded
:03:36. > :03:44.guilty to similar charges. There are some details in this report which
:03:45. > :03:49.you may find upsetting. A court has heard today how for
:03:50. > :03:53.children suffered horrific sexual abuse, neglect and cruelty by their
:03:54. > :03:59.parents and two uncles as well as two other men. Belfast Crown Court
:04:00. > :04:05.also heard that the abuse took place between the late 70s and early 1990s
:04:06. > :04:08.in the children's home before they were taken into care. The
:04:09. > :04:12.prosecution barrister said the children's mother had sex with
:04:13. > :04:14.various men on different occasions, sometimes even with her two
:04:15. > :04:20.brothers. He said the mother described an early hearing as a
:04:21. > :04:26.prostitute was often drunk and made the four young children watch her
:04:27. > :04:32.having sex. He added one girl was left so badly neglected that she was
:04:33. > :04:38.still in a cot at the age of two and could barely walk or talk. One child
:04:39. > :04:44.was a bed-wetter and he was made to sleep in a soiled mattress. A social
:04:45. > :04:49.worker postbag report described the house as squalid. It said the
:04:50. > :04:52.children were often left starving. All six of the accused who have all
:04:53. > :04:56.pleaded guilty to the charges eventually appeared in the dock
:04:57. > :05:02.today. One of the uncles had to be arrested and brought to court. The
:05:03. > :05:07.father and mother, both have pleaded guilty to 17 charges of cruelty and
:05:08. > :05:11.neglect. The mother, to six counts of gross indecency and the father to
:05:12. > :05:16.a charge of assault. Sentencing will take place later this month.
:05:17. > :05:19.The outgoing Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie told the Alliance
:05:20. > :05:22.Party conference tonight that Democrats should hold true to a
:05:23. > :05:31.strategic vision for the future of Northern Ireland. She leaves her
:05:32. > :05:36.post next week. We have the continuing challenges
:05:37. > :05:41.around policing public disorder, parades and our troubled past. These
:05:42. > :05:45.could also to throw us of the vision and throw us off course for the
:05:46. > :05:49.longer term. We must not let them. As I reflect on my 32 years policing
:05:50. > :05:53.Northern Ireland, I have learned that we are all in this for the
:05:54. > :05:56.longer game. There was a fond farewell today to
:05:57. > :05:59.Jimmy Ellis, the veteran actor remembered for his many roles on
:06:00. > :06:01.stage and screen. His family and fellow actors gathered in Belfast
:06:02. > :06:10.for the 82-year-old's funeral service.
:06:11. > :06:14.Born and bred in the shadow of the shipyard, Jimmy Ellis never forgot
:06:15. > :06:22.where he came from. Nor have the public that he touched through
:06:23. > :06:29.stage, screen and drama. None more so than as the cop in Z Cars. More
:06:30. > :06:33.than a future years were brushed away but mostly it was easy,
:06:34. > :06:39.laughter and applause which ran out from the Church in East Belfast as
:06:40. > :06:44.family, friends and fellow actors celebrated the life and work of
:06:45. > :06:50.Jimmy Ellis. He was a great friend and amend or, not just for me, but
:06:51. > :06:57.for many people. Most of us will remember him and his fun. There have
:06:58. > :07:09.been many tributes. Kenneth Branagh said he was a highly intelligent and
:07:10. > :07:21.funny man and a tremendous actor. Just overwhelming to see the people
:07:22. > :07:30.here. He would be overwhelmed that this many people came today. That
:07:31. > :07:37.was the experience of so many of us today of Jimmy Ellis, a man, fully
:07:38. > :07:40.alive. This afternoon, a final episode as a Jimmy Ellis's cortege
:07:41. > :07:46.revisited some of the special places in his life. The former family home
:07:47. > :07:51.on Park Avenue and the school he attended as a boy. An opportunity to
:07:52. > :07:56.four Belfast to say farewell and thank you to one of its favourite
:07:57. > :07:58.sons. Rugby, three penalties from Paddy
:07:59. > :08:03.Jackson earned Ulster a 9-3 victory over Edinburgh in tonight's Pro12
:08:04. > :08:07.league game at Murrayfield. The win sees Ulster stay in touch with
:08:08. > :08:13.league leaders Leinster as they move up to second in the table, five
:08:14. > :08:24.points behind their rivals. The weather is next.
:08:25. > :08:27.Has been some snow in places today and there will be more of a
:08:28. > :08:33.suggestion of winter this coming weekend. Still some wintry showers
:08:34. > :08:37.around tonight. A cold night to come with Frost in the countryside and
:08:38. > :08:45.ice on many untreated roads and pavements. The Met office had issued
:08:46. > :08:50.a warning for icy surfaces. A cold weekend, particularly in the wind.
:08:51. > :08:58.Some sunshine around on Sunday but also some wintry showers tomorrow. A
:08:59. > :09:01.cold start tomorrow with ice in places but also quite sunny for a
:09:02. > :09:07.time but showers will move him from the West and they will fall as a mix
:09:08. > :09:13.of rain, hail, sleet and snow. The snow should not settle anywhere but
:09:14. > :09:17.there will be a cold wind blowing through the temperatures you see
:09:18. > :09:21.here of around eight degrees, that is where the sun is shining. When
:09:22. > :09:26.the snow comes, it will of course feel much much colder. In the middle
:09:27. > :09:34.of the afternoon tomorrow, there will be some sunshine around. Some
:09:35. > :09:38.of the showers will feel wintry. In the sunshine, we could see
:09:39. > :09:42.temperatures of eight or nine degrees. Sunday is the better of the
:09:43. > :09:46.two days this weekend. Still that cold wind, especially in the north
:09:47. > :09:53.and east. Sunday night, we are expecting a sharp frost. Less cold
:09:54. > :09:56.for the beginning of next week. That's it for now. You can keep
