:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. An alleged former IRA leader has appeared in court in

:00:11. > :00:14.Belfast charged in connection with the abduction and murder of Jean

:00:15. > :00:25.McConville in 1972. Ivor Bell was refused bail, as Mark Simpson

:00:26. > :00:30.reports. Ivor Bell did not speak in court but he nodded when I asked if

:00:31. > :00:36.he understood the charges. The case against him is back in 1972 he was

:00:37. > :00:41.involved in the murder of Jean McConville. She was abducted and

:00:42. > :00:46.later killed by the IRA. Her body was found 30 years later, buried on

:00:47. > :00:52.a beach. She had ten children. Do you know why your mammy went away?

:00:53. > :00:59.Some of her children were in court today as Ivor Bell appeared, charged

:01:00. > :01:05.with aiding and abetting the murder of Mrs McConville. It is based on an

:01:06. > :01:08.interview he allegedly did for the Boston College tapes. Mr Bell denied

:01:09. > :01:14.any involvement in the murder and could prove his innocence, it was

:01:15. > :01:17.said. Ivor Bell was described as a frail, elderly, 77-year-old

:01:18. > :01:20.grandfather. It's a frail, elderly, 77-year-old grandfather. His

:01:21. > :01:29.solicitor told the court he had suffered two heart attacks and had.

:01:30. > :01:33.Back in 1972, Ivor Bell was part of a Republican delegation which held

:01:34. > :01:37.secret talks with the British Government. In court, his solicitor

:01:38. > :01:42.said he was a threat to know one and should be released on bail. A police

:01:43. > :01:46.officer Todd the court there was evidence linking him to the murder

:01:47. > :01:51.of Mrs McConville and bail was refused. Later, supporters of Ivor

:01:52. > :01:54.Bell held a protest close to Belfast city centre. The search continues

:01:55. > :01:59.for an angler from Portadown who is missing after a boat sank on Lough

:02:00. > :02:02.Ree in County Westmeath. Tributes have been paid to a member of the

:02:03. > :02:15.fishing party who died in the accident and another man is in

:02:16. > :02:20.hospital. Claire Savage reports. In the air, on the water and along the

:02:21. > :02:24.shoreline at Lough Ree, the search continues. The 30-year-old landscape

:02:25. > :02:28.gardener from Portadown was on a fishing trip with two friends when

:02:29. > :02:33.accident happened. The man who died on Thursday was David Warnock on

:02:34. > :02:38.which Hill. He was a former club captain of Armagh hockey club. He

:02:39. > :02:43.was engaged with a four-year-old son for the P had been due to play in a

:02:44. > :02:48.league Cup Final next Saturday. It is likely to be postponed as a mark

:02:49. > :02:53.of respect. Team-mates at his club have described him as a superb

:02:54. > :02:57.player. Someone of his stature and ability is irreplaceable, both as a

:02:58. > :03:02.friend and Perth. He could have played for, I will go as far as to

:03:03. > :03:11.say, any team in Ireland if you chose to. It was not in his nature.

:03:12. > :03:13.This was his home club. It is said the rescued man is in a stable

:03:14. > :03:16.condition in hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening

:03:17. > :03:19.will stop The Alliance MLA Anna Lo says she won't be labelled as a

:03:20. > :03:23.nationalist after telling a newspaper her personal preference

:03:24. > :03:26.would be for a United Ireland. The party's European candidate rejected

:03:27. > :03:29.criticism of her remarks, claiming it came from people incapable of

:03:30. > :03:38.seeing beyond sectarianism. Here's our political editor, Mark

:03:39. > :03:44.Devenport. Anna Lo got a standing over Asian from Alliance activists,

:03:45. > :03:51.after being described as a one-woman publicity machine. -- a standing

:03:52. > :03:56.ovation. Was this good publicity or bad publicity? She said she would

:03:57. > :04:00.not be reduced to a label. When I decided to get involved in politics,

:04:01. > :04:10.I did not join Sinn Fein or the SDLP. No, I join the Alliance party

:04:11. > :04:18.because my motivation is not a united Ireland but the United

:04:19. > :04:21.Northern Ireland. It was argued that Alliance is not just in

:04:22. > :04:29.middle-of-the-road party, splitting the difference between unionists and

:04:30. > :04:33.nationalists. We are not the more drugs -- moderates in Northern

:04:34. > :04:37.Ireland politics. We are there to smash the mould. There is only one

:04:38. > :04:40.way we will smash it and by convincing more and more people to

:04:41. > :04:45.step forward and to step forward and two boat Alliance. The message of

:04:46. > :04:50.Alliance is that they have no need to worry about the fallout from the

:04:51. > :04:52.remarks of Anna Lo. It will only become clear once voters have given

:04:53. > :04:55.their verdicts. And now here's the weather with Bara

:04:56. > :05:07.Best. We still have a few scattered

:05:08. > :05:11.showers. During this evening and overnight, many will begin to die

:05:12. > :05:15.away. As temperatures fall close to freezing tonight, any showers that

:05:16. > :05:23.to remain will fall asleep and snow, especially over the high ground. --

:05:24. > :05:28.as sleek. It will be chilly to start on Sunday. There will be fog and the

:05:29. > :05:32.odd patch of ice. There may be some slippery surfaces. Sunday is not

:05:33. > :05:38.going to be too bad. More in the way of sunshine and fewer showers in the

:05:39. > :05:41.forecast. To begin with, a few showers here and there as we go

:05:42. > :05:45.towards the afternoon. It will brighten up nicely and most of the

:05:46. > :05:50.winds will die out. It will die out. It'll be a mixed bag across Britain

:05:51. > :05:55.and Ireland. Tomorrow will be a much better picture for us all. Some good

:05:56. > :05:58.spells of sunshine to enjoy. Temperatures will be held back into

:05:59. > :06:06.the high single figures for many of us. One or two places will reach

:06:07. > :06:12.double figures by the afternoon. There will be the odd shower. Many

:06:13. > :06:17.of us will stay dry with highs of seven, eight Celsius. Largely dry

:06:18. > :06:22.conditions tomorrow evening and overnight into Monday. It will not

:06:23. > :06:27.stay the same for long. More rain on Monday. There will be southeasterly

:06:28. > :06:32.winds. On Tuesday and Wednesday it will be an improving story. That's

:06:33. > :06:36.it for now. BBC Newsline will be back tomorrow.
