:00:00. > :00:00.year. The next

:00:07. > :00:11.Good afternoon and welcome to BBC Newsline. An alleged former IRA

:00:12. > :00:14.leader has appeared in court in Belfast charged in connection with

:00:15. > :00:18.the abduction and murder of Jean McConville in 1972. Ivor Bell was

:00:19. > :00:32.refused bail, as Mark Simpson reports.

:00:33. > :00:35.Ivor Bell's solicitor told the court he had nothing to do with the murder

:00:36. > :00:38.of Jean McConville. He said Mr Bell would be able to prove his

:00:39. > :00:44.innocence. Jean McConville from West Belfast was abducted and killed in

:00:45. > :00:49.1972. Her body was found years later, buried on a beach. She had

:00:50. > :00:57.ten children. A number of members in court today as Ivor Bell appeared,

:00:58. > :01:01.charged with aiding and abetting her murder. His solicitor told the court

:01:02. > :01:08.was based on an interview for the Boston College, but the evidence

:01:09. > :01:13.against him was not credible. Ivor Bell was described in court as a

:01:14. > :01:16.frail, elderly, 77-year-old grandfather. His solicitor told the

:01:17. > :01:23.court he had suffered two heart attacks and had arthritis as well as

:01:24. > :01:26.neck and bowel problems. Ivor Bell was part of the Republican

:01:27. > :01:32.delegations that held secret talks with the British government in

:01:33. > :01:35.London in 1972. In court today, his solicitor said he was a threat to

:01:36. > :01:41.the one and should be released on bail. But a police officer said

:01:42. > :01:46.there was critical information linking him to the murder of Jean

:01:47. > :01:49.McConville. The search has resumed for an angler

:01:50. > :01:53.from Portadown who is missing after a boat sank on Lough Ree in County

:01:54. > :01:56.Westmeath. A friend died and another man is stable in hospital after the

:01:57. > :02:00.accident on Thursday. The dead man has been named locally as David

:02:01. > :02:03.Warnock from Richhill, who was in his 20s. Today the Irish Coastguard

:02:04. > :02:07.helicopter was again involved in the search for the missing man, who's

:02:08. > :02:10.understood to be from Craigavon. A Garda spokesperson said that

:02:11. > :02:16.condition of the third man, who was rescued, was non life-threatening.

:02:17. > :02:19.The Alliance Party MLA Anna Lo has defended comments she made in a

:02:20. > :02:21.newspaper interview during which she declared her preference for a united

:02:22. > :02:25.Ireland. The party's European candidate received a standing

:02:26. > :02:27.ovation as she took to the stage at the party's annual conference this

:02:28. > :02:30.morning. She rejected criticism of her remarks, claiming it came from

:02:31. > :02:46.people incapable of seeing beyond sectarianism. Of course, in recent

:02:47. > :02:53.days, a lot has been said about my views on the constitutional issue.

:02:54. > :02:59.And many have tried to paint me as a nationalist. Let me make this very

:03:00. > :03:06.clear. I cannot and will not be reduced to one label.

:03:07. > :03:09.The police are investigating after a war memorial at Killowen Orange Hall

:03:10. > :03:12.in Coleraine was vandalised last night. It's understood a memorial

:03:13. > :03:15.stone was smashed and wreaths damaged at the building at Shuttle

:03:16. > :03:19.Hill around 9pm. The incident is being treated as a hate crime and

:03:20. > :03:23.the Orange Order has condemned the attack. A viable device was made

:03:24. > :03:25.safe during a security alert in Glengormley last night.

:03:26. > :03:28.The police say a suspicious object was discovered at a house on the

:03:29. > :03:32.Antrim Road. Army experts were cold and a number of homes were

:03:33. > :03:36.evacuated. The device was taken away for forensic examination.

:03:37. > :03:39.In rugby, Ulster stayed in touch with Pro12 leaders Leinster with a

:03:40. > :03:43.win over Edinburgh at Murrayfield last night. On a heavy pitch, Paddy

:03:44. > :03:47.Jackson was the Ulster match-winner, kicking three penalties. The hosts

:03:48. > :03:52.had taken the lead but Ulster bounced back despite Iain

:03:53. > :03:55.Henderson's yellow card. The victory moved them up to second in the

:03:56. > :03:58.table, five points behind Leinster. And it marked another stage in

:03:59. > :04:07.Stephen Ferris's comeback from long-term injury. We just dug in

:04:08. > :04:12.there. We knew it wasn't going to be an open game, we just needed to dig

:04:13. > :04:18.in. From a personal point of view, it went really well. It is just hard

:04:19. > :04:25.work, hard graft. It is good to do a few hard yards. Time now for a look

:04:26. > :04:30.at the weather forecast. Here's Barra Best.

:04:31. > :04:41.It is still mainly dry and the East at the moment, but some showers are

:04:42. > :04:48.on their way and there is the risk of lightning, hail and thunder Sten.

:04:49. > :04:52.In between, it will brighten up and there will be decent spells of

:04:53. > :04:56.sunshine to be enjoyed, although with gusty winds, it will feel

:04:57. > :05:01.colder than it is. You will want to wrap up warm if you are writing

:05:02. > :05:04.about. It is a fairly unsettled picture right across Britain and

:05:05. > :05:13.Ireland and there will be scattered showers almost anywhere. Quite

:05:14. > :05:17.breezy. Temperatures might get up to 11 or 12 degrees in the south-east

:05:18. > :05:21.of England. By later in the day, there will be brighter weather to

:05:22. > :05:27.enjoy before nightfall. For Northern Ireland, showers dying out, but some

:05:28. > :05:33.will linger through the course of the night and they will be falling

:05:34. > :05:38.as sleet and snow as temperatures fall close to freezing in many

:05:39. > :05:43.places. The morning will be cold, there will be frost and patches of

:05:44. > :05:47.ice will stop otherwise, tomorrow is shaping up to be a much better day.

:05:48. > :05:55.There will be some showers, but there will be more dry weather and

:05:56. > :06:01.spells of sunshine. In the afternoon, it will brighten up and

:06:02. > :06:05.much lighter winds to enjoy the sunshine. Temperatures reaching

:06:06. > :06:10.seven or eight degrees. Some showers lingering into the afternoon. It

:06:11. > :06:16.will be largely dry night as we go overnight into Monday. A promising

:06:17. > :06:22.start on Monday, but the next batch of rain will be on its way with

:06:23. > :06:27.blustery conditions. The good news is, that will pass away and for

:06:28. > :06:30.Tuesday and Wednesday, we will have largely dry days with the odd

:06:31. > :06:31.shower. That's it for now.
