:00:00. > :00:00.there's a first look at the papers over on the BBC
:00:00. > :00:13.Fox Good evening. A 48-year-old man's been charged
:00:14. > :00:17.with the murder of two Catholic workmen in north Belfast almost 20
:00:18. > :00:21.years ago. 44-year-old Eamon Fox and Gary Convie, who was 24, were
:00:22. > :00:24.sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street when a
:00:25. > :00:29.gunman opened fire with a sub-machine gun. The man charged
:00:30. > :00:32.will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court in the morning. He is also
:00:33. > :00:36.accused of attempted murder and having a firearm. A 41-year-old
:00:37. > :00:39.woman has been released. A man charged with killing two of
:00:40. > :00:44.his former girlfriends is to be prosecuted for the murder of a third
:00:45. > :00:48.partner. Leslie Ross, from Dromore, in County Down, has been told he
:00:49. > :01:03.will be charged over the death of Lily McKee in 2002. Gordon Adair
:01:04. > :01:08.reports. Last year, Leslie Ross, who lived
:01:09. > :01:14.here in Dromore, was charged with two murders. Both were former
:01:15. > :01:18.girlfriends of this stonemason. One was discovered in 2012. Five years
:01:19. > :01:23.before that, the body of Margaret Weis was found. Five years before
:01:24. > :01:28.that, in 2002, Lily McKee, who was 52, was found dead. She was a mother
:01:29. > :01:33.of one. Again, she was from Dromore and again she was a partner of
:01:34. > :01:36.Leslie Ross. At the time of the initial two charges, the police
:01:37. > :01:40.passed a file to the Public Prosecution Service and today at
:01:41. > :01:45.court, they revealed that Leslie Ross will now be charged with the
:01:46. > :01:50.murder of Lily McKee. Leslie Ross's solicitor said his client denied the
:01:51. > :01:54.involvement in all three of the women's deaths. Last year, Leslie
:01:55. > :01:58.Ross was shot with three other offences, indecent assault, gross
:01:59. > :02:03.indecency with a child and indecently assaulting a female
:02:04. > :02:08.child. Today, the prosecutor approved those charges without
:02:09. > :02:13.prejudice. It is understand they will now be pursued through separate
:02:14. > :02:17.court proceedings at another date. It's been confirmed that 197 people
:02:18. > :02:20.are to lose their jobs at a call centre in north Belfast. The
:02:21. > :02:23.company, TeleTech, lost a substantial contract to a
:02:24. > :02:30.competitor. Eunan McConville has more details.
:02:31. > :02:32.This is TeleTech, a US owned communications company with bases in
:02:33. > :02:41.many countries around the world. It has been operating call centres in
:02:42. > :02:45.Belfast since 2001. These job losses are as a result of the company
:02:46. > :02:50.losing a contract with car manufacturer Nissan. TeleTech had
:02:51. > :02:55.been providing customer support for Nissan but a French company recently
:02:56. > :02:58.won the contract. We will keep in contact with the company, offer any
:02:59. > :03:03.assistance we can, but obviously, this is very bad news for those
:03:04. > :03:06.working in TeleTech connected with this contract. A statement from the
:03:07. > :03:24.company said: The company says that they are
:03:25. > :03:30.looking for other business opportunities, but have not
:03:31. > :03:34.identified any at this time. It says the site will remain open. We have
:03:35. > :03:37.been in touch with TeleTech, we're willing to meet with them, we have
:03:38. > :03:41.talked to some of those who would be unemployed, some of the employees
:03:42. > :03:47.here, to see if there's anything we can do about it. The people losing
:03:48. > :03:50.their jobs will be given the opportunity to follow the work to
:03:51. > :03:56.France, but of course, that one to France, but of course, that won't
:03:57. > :04:00.suit everyone. A man whose car was targeted in a
:04:01. > :04:03.bomb attack in Londonderry has told BBC Newsline he can't understand why
:04:04. > :04:06.he was singled out. Christy Tarr, from the Creggan estate, says his
:04:07. > :04:13.family has been left traumatised. Here's Keiron Tourish.
:04:14. > :04:17.Christy Tarr says he is lucky to be alive after his car was targeted in
:04:18. > :04:22.a bomb attack last night. The 29-year-old, who was at home with
:04:23. > :04:26.his mother, says his family are devastated. Extensive damage was
:04:27. > :04:33.caused to the silver Vauxhall, that was part in nearby gardens. The
:04:34. > :04:39.device exploded at 10:40pm. Residents were at home nearby, but
:04:40. > :04:42.no one was injured. I was sitting at home last night, just a normal
:04:43. > :04:48.night, and there was a massive explosion outside, shook the whole
:04:49. > :04:53.place, a big third. Anybody in the street, anybody walking past, they
:04:54. > :04:57.could have been killed stone dead. Politicians strongly condemned the
:04:58. > :05:02.attack. There for the grace of God, no one has been seriously injured or
:05:03. > :05:06.killed. When there was a target last night, the victims were the people
:05:07. > :05:11.behind us who were forced out of their homes. This latest attack
:05:12. > :05:14.followed a shooting at a house in Creggan eight days ago. They need to
:05:15. > :05:19.come forward and tell this community the rationale of what they are
:05:20. > :05:22.doing. Because nobody seems to understand why. Community leaders
:05:23. > :05:25.have called for the attacks to stop immediately.
:05:26. > :05:27.?15 million is being spent by the Assembly to help parents of
:05:28. > :05:31.school-age children get back to work. The Bright Start scheme will
:05:32. > :05:35.subsidise the care of an extra 6,000 children here before and after
:05:36. > :05:38.school and during the summer. The move will create 750 childcare jobs
:05:39. > :05:49.and, from today, childcare providers can apply for the subsidy as long as
:05:50. > :05:54.the cost is around ?70 a week. That would be quite reasonable, when you
:05:55. > :05:59.look at private childcare which could be costing in excess of ?150,
:06:00. > :06:04.so it is almost half. But if parents are able to utilise the tax breaks
:06:05. > :06:07.that are available, it makes it even more affordable to them.
:06:08. > :06:11.The Ulster Unionist party says it would be happy to see Pope Francis
:06:12. > :06:14.visit Belfast. It issued a statement after one of the party's councillors
:06:15. > :06:18.said he opposed a Papal visit to the city, fearing it could lead to
:06:19. > :06:22.unrest. The city council is expected to discuss the idea next week. There
:06:23. > :06:24.is a lot of flash photography at the start of this report from our
:06:25. > :06:28.political correspondent Gareth Gordon.
:06:29. > :06:32.Vatican this morning, two of the world's most famous men made for the
:06:33. > :06:38.first time. One has already been to Belfast, the other, Pope Francis,
:06:39. > :06:43.will be invited if a city councillor has his way. This union thinks it is
:06:44. > :06:46.a bad idea. Perhaps some other part of Northern Ireland were closer to
:06:47. > :06:50.the border, would be more appropriate. I think people need to
:06:51. > :06:54.become realistic in this whole matter. Rather than trying to make
:06:55. > :07:01.cheap political capital because we have two elections coming up in May.
:07:02. > :07:04.Y-word closer to the border make any difference --Y-word pressure on
:07:05. > :07:10.people in Belfast entitled to sue the Pope? Of course, but they can
:07:11. > :07:15.travel down to the border. You will find there are a large portion of
:07:16. > :07:21.Roman Catholics on the border area than there are in this area. I was
:07:22. > :07:28.very comfortably collected last time on the first count. Alderman Rogers
:07:29. > :07:32.was not, if you want to go and check the election results. As far as I am
:07:33. > :07:38.concerned, it is an issue of portraying this place in a good,
:07:39. > :07:42.positive night. -- light. Catholic sources say it is unlikely the Pope
:07:43. > :07:45.would want to visit Ireland without coming north. The details will be
:07:46. > :07:50.discussed with the Westminster government and the Executive was not
:07:51. > :07:54.Belfast City Council. We are in Belfast, they took the flag them.
:07:55. > :07:57.There would be controversy. I think it would be great to see the Pope
:07:58. > :08:03.here but I don't think sex is this community would be ready. It would
:08:04. > :08:09.be great if he was to lead the 12th of March. Jim Rogers says it is not
:08:10. > :08:14.a question of no Pope here but that is not how others will see it. City
:08:15. > :08:16.Hall is set, it seems, for another row.
:08:17. > :08:20.And that debate continues on The View straight after this bulletin.
:08:21. > :08:25.Let's get a look at the weather for tomorrow, here's Angie Philips.
:08:26. > :08:29.Good evening. We are stuck with this chilly easterly breeze for another
:08:30. > :08:32.24 hours at least and it will continue to bring showers as well.
:08:33. > :08:35.We are going to see showers pushing their way westwards again through
:08:36. > :08:40.the first part of the night and then almost grinding to a halt close to
:08:41. > :08:43.the southern counties. Towards the north and north-west, it becomes
:08:44. > :08:46.drier with clear spells and temperatures could dip close to
:08:47. > :08:50.freezing, so we are looking up pockets of frost and maybe the odd
:08:51. > :08:55.icy patch but where we have those cloudier skies in the South, it
:08:56. > :08:58.should stay frost free. Tomorrow, the weather front bringing the
:08:59. > :09:02.showers is still lingering close by and the white lines, the isobars,
:09:03. > :09:06.are quite close together, an indication that it is going to be
:09:07. > :09:10.breezy and chilly again. Showery rain will be pushing through the
:09:11. > :09:13.South and East in the morning rush hour, some of it fairly heavy and
:09:14. > :09:17.gradually tracking westwards through the latter stages of the morning.
:09:18. > :09:21.The Republic of Ireland becomes drier and brighter for a time but we
:09:22. > :09:25.have some heavy showers across the south of Wales, the south-west of
:09:26. > :09:28.England and they will swing into Ireland in the afternoon. Also heavy
:09:29. > :09:33.showers across the Pennines in northern England and into southern
:09:34. > :09:36.Scotland. Elsewhere, it is right. Still chilly in the breeze but the
:09:37. > :09:40.hint of something perhaps a bit warmer pushing into the south-east.
:09:41. > :09:45.The Northern Ireland in the afternoon, still chilly, around
:09:46. > :09:49.about eight or nine degrees. Driver time but then more showery rain
:09:50. > :09:52.coming in later in the day and into tomorrow night, some of its heavy
:09:53. > :09:56.and thundery. It could stay damp into Saturday, but at least through
:09:57. > :09:59.the weekend, those temperatures are rising.
