:00:08. > :00:10.Good evening, and welcome to BBC Newsline.

:00:11. > :00:13.A 30-year-old woman has appeared in court in Belfast, accused of

:00:14. > :00:16.murdering her baby son. The charges are linked to an incident in the

:00:17. > :00:24.city last month. Louise Cullen reports. The woman appeared in court

:00:25. > :00:28.today, charged with murder. She had been arrested by detectives and

:00:29. > :00:31.detained under the Mental Health Act following the incident in Belfast

:00:32. > :00:36.last month, in which the child was critically injured. He later died.

:00:37. > :00:40.At short notice today the woman was brought before the Magistrates'

:00:41. > :00:44.Court. Reporting etrickions have been imposed to protect the

:00:45. > :00:49.defendant's identity. An order bans the press from identifying her was

:00:50. > :00:53.granted today, under the terms of the Human Rights Act. The case was

:00:54. > :00:57.ageneraled until next month and she was remanded back in to medical

:00:58. > :00:59.care. Sinn Fein has apologised

:01:00. > :01:03.unreservedly to the Catholic Bishop of Dromore, over a letter issued by

:01:04. > :01:05.the party in West Belfast, which they admit misrepresented his

:01:06. > :01:09.position on abortion. The apology has been accepted by Bishop John

:01:10. > :01:10.McAreavey, who says he was appalled at the claims. Our political

:01:11. > :01:28.correspondent Gareth Gordon reports. Like others in the Catholic

:01:29. > :01:31.hierarchy the bishop holds strong anti-abortion views so when Sue

:01:32. > :01:34.Ramsey and the party councillor issued a letter to people in West

:01:35. > :01:38.Belfast claiming that the cleric shared their position on the

:01:39. > :01:43.termination of human life, he was angry. The claim, he said, was

:01:44. > :01:47.untrue and damaging, and that he was appalled, adding "I cannot emphasise

:01:48. > :01:53.enough the seriousness of this action, which has misused my good

:01:54. > :01:58.name, and impugned the teaching reputation of my ministry. They were

:01:59. > :02:04.very strong words, the Sinn Fein MP for West Belfast has issued a

:02:05. > :02:08.statement, admitting the letter's seriously misquoted and

:02:09. > :02:12.misrepresented the bishop's position on abortion, saying he apologised

:02:13. > :02:15.and accepting the references to the bishop were unaccurate and the

:02:16. > :02:20.letters should not have gone out. The bishop has thanked the Deputy

:02:21. > :02:25.First Minister for intervening on his behalf, in this highly unusual

:02:26. > :02:29.dispute, Sinn Fein have held up their hands, and admitted they got

:02:30. > :02:33.it badly wrong, but whether it is damaging or not for the party, it

:02:34. > :02:49.certainly very embarrassing. The women, aged 57 and 60 were

:02:50. > :02:53.arrested earlier today. The Health Minister has been urged

:02:54. > :02:58.to clarify if theed admissions policy on NHS care homes will be

:02:59. > :03:09.changed. It follows the announcement of a reprieve for 18 homes, that had

:03:10. > :03:15.been earmarked for closure. Pensioner jean could afford a smile

:03:16. > :03:21.after celebrating her part in the action. These flowers are beautiful.

:03:22. > :03:24.A year ago the Health Minister chose her care home at Westlands to

:03:25. > :03:29.announce that older people should not be forced to move. His visit

:03:30. > :03:33.followed an interview given by the 92-year-old on the Nolan television

:03:34. > :03:37.show. She described her feelings over Government plans to close 18

:03:38. > :03:53.care homes across Northern Ireland, including hers. Just thing things,

:03:54. > :03:58.and the staff are and the resident. About 280 older men and women live

:03:59. > :04:01.in local NHS care homes. Now it has been announced the 18 homes

:04:02. > :04:05.earmarkeded for closure have been granted a reprieve. Those people, it

:04:06. > :04:10.is not about the building, those people in the care homes will be

:04:11. > :04:15.there, that is their home, while they want it to be their home and as

:04:16. > :04:17.long as they live. So that is the key thing that people were asking

:04:18. > :04:21.for, and that has been something that has been delivered.

:04:22. > :04:25.The minister's intentions are set out in a letter to the health

:04:26. > :04:29.committee, seen by the BBC. In it Mr Boots says that he is clear that

:04:30. > :04:34.existing residents will be allowed to repain in their home for as long

:04:35. > :04:39.thads wish, and so long their needs continue to be met there. He adds

:04:40. > :04:42.that will is an onus on the health service to demonstrate to older

:04:43. > :04:46.people new alternatives to statutory homes are a better option for them.

:04:47. > :04:51.Those campaigning on behalf of care homes say the minister needs to

:04:52. > :04:57.spell out why homes aren't currently taking in new residents. I asked Mr

:04:58. > :05:01.Pots why that wasn't happening. He said there was some work do in line

:05:02. > :05:05.with that, he had given it back to the board to look at. The outcome

:05:06. > :05:09.would be round June time. In my opinion there is no field of work to

:05:10. > :05:14.be done, it has left the policy and left it now. For Jean she is happy

:05:15. > :05:28.that for now, she has her home to live in. That is the future ensured

:05:29. > :05:36.for us here, and staff were elated. The health and social care board

:05:37. > :05:39.review continues. Two former directors of Anglo-Irish

:05:40. > :05:42.Bank have been found guilty of illegally supporting the bank's

:05:43. > :05:44.share price, months before its collapse. Pat Whelan, the bank's

:05:45. > :05:47.former head of lending, and its ex-finance director William McAteer,

:05:48. > :05:50.had denied providing unlawful financial assistance to a select

:05:51. > :05:53.group of clients to buy Anglo shares. But the pair were found

:05:54. > :05:56.guilty by unanimous decision on ten counts of providing loans of 450

:05:57. > :05:57.million euro. Yesterday, former chairman Sean Fitzpatrick was

:05:58. > :06:13.cleared of all charges. The police are investigating a

:06:14. > :06:18.serious sexual assault on a woman in Armagh. She was attacked after

:06:19. > :06:21.midnight. Detectives are appealing for witnesses.

:06:22. > :06:24.An arson attack on a community centre in the Rathcoole Estate in

:06:25. > :06:27.Newtownabbey has threatened to close the complex for weeks. Staff at the

:06:28. > :06:35.Dunanny Centre say they've no idea why they were targetted. Andy West

:06:36. > :06:40.reports. Three o'clock in the morning and in in CCTV footage three

:06:41. > :06:44.grainy figures can be seen in the top right of the frame.

:06:45. > :06:48.They run to the back doors of the boiler room and begin pouring fuel

:06:49. > :06:54.inside. Seconds later, a ball of fire. The

:06:55. > :07:00.attack destroyed the complex's gas and water supply. Just means we have

:07:01. > :07:06.no heat, we have no water, and it is imhas implication for the run of the

:07:07. > :07:10.centre. We have a Citizen's Advice Bureau, the staff or the people

:07:11. > :07:13.count use the loos or wash their hand, the boiler house is totally

:07:14. > :07:17.destroyed. Firefighters were able to put the

:07:18. > :07:23.blaze out, 20 minutes after it started. With flames licking round

:07:24. > :07:28.pipes, filled with gas, the damage could so easily have been much, much

:07:29. > :07:32.worse. Centre manager Vicky Moore can't understand why they have been

:07:33. > :07:36.targeted. We have absolutely no idea. We don't know. This is a

:07:37. > :07:40.church's organisation, we are a centre that relies very much on the

:07:41. > :07:43.support of the community and the community relies on the service we

:07:44. > :07:49.provide. Police are investigating the attack but are yet to establish

:07:50. > :07:53.a motive. The first 33 athletes who will

:07:54. > :07:57.represent Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have

:07:58. > :08:01.been named tonight. They include boxers Paddy Barnes and Michael

:08:02. > :08:05.Conlon. The games start in July. And now for a look ahead to our

:08:06. > :08:12.programmes tomorrow. We will be reporting on an up surge on dog

:08:13. > :08:17.attacks on sheep that are costing farmers thousands. That is on our

:08:18. > :08:22.bulletins starting at 6.30. Now the weather.

:08:23. > :08:28.Is hello things are now improving and it looks promising for the

:08:29. > :08:32.Easter weekend. A good part of it any way but it is going to be cold

:08:33. > :08:36.tonight, with the clearing skies and easing winds, think widely we will

:08:37. > :08:40.see temperatures dipping towards freezing, so that will give us grass

:08:41. > :08:44.frost by tomorrow an one or two rural spots could get an air frost,

:08:45. > :08:48.maybe some patches of mist and fog as well. So it's a cold start on

:08:49. > :08:53.goof but it is is a fine day coming up, with dry with sunshine, in fact

:08:54. > :09:00.sunny from the word go. That will help to clear any frost and fog

:09:01. > :09:04.patches. Away from the far west of Ireland and Scotland where it is

:09:05. > :09:08.cloudy. Damp and dinned windy in the north-west I it is otherwise fine,

:09:09. > :09:15.dry and sunny across many parts of Britain and Irelandroom to.

:09:16. > :09:20.Temperature, 13-15. But it could feel pleasant and warm, except on

:09:21. > :09:23.some parts of the North Sea coast, where they will have an onshore

:09:24. > :09:27.breeze. And for the County Down coast, there is a chance you could

:09:28. > :09:30.have an onshore breeze, pegging temperatures back tomorrow, but away

:09:31. > :09:35.from there, and inland towards the west, temperatures getting up to

:09:36. > :09:40.round 14, possibly 15 grow, so here, too, a me Sanday. Into Saturday,

:09:41. > :09:45.again, we get a repeat performance, a chilly start, sunshine, highs of

:09:46. > :09:48.14 or 15. Easter Sunday brings low pressure, wet and windy conditions

:09:49. > :09:52.into England and Wales, it may be bring cloud towards us on Easter

:09:53. > :09:55.Monday, but Easter Sunday looks fine.

:09:56. > :09:57.That is it for now you can follow this programme on Facebook and

:09:58. > :10:00.Twitter. Good night.
