:00:00. > 3:59:59first look at the papers over on the BBC News Channel. But
:00:00. > :00:14.Good evening. New tougher rules are being introduced to try to stop the
:00:15. > :00:18.kind of lending that contributed to the recent financial crisis. It's a
:00:19. > :00:20.move that could affect thousands of people here trying to secure a
:00:21. > :00:24.mortgage. From midnight your lifestyle will influence the chance
:00:25. > :00:26.of you getting a home loan, with questions being asked about spending
:00:27. > :00:33.habits. With the details, BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson reports.
:00:34. > :00:41.Can you really afford a mortgage? Be prepared to be asked about how much
:00:42. > :00:49.you spend on childcare, transport, holidays, and about gambling, going
:00:50. > :00:53.to the gym, milk deliveries and haircuts. These are the questions
:00:54. > :00:58.which mortgage providers should ask, but how much of a change will
:00:59. > :01:04.it be? What they are looking at now is what you can afford in two years.
:01:05. > :01:10.It used to be very much what is your income now. They will look at what
:01:11. > :01:16.your outgoings might be, and they will add a little on for if interest
:01:17. > :01:21.rates rise. They will be looking at can you still afford this mortgage
:01:22. > :01:26.in a few years. The new rules are part of the MMR, the mortgage market
:01:27. > :01:29.review. It is all a legacy of the credit crunch, and the idea is to
:01:30. > :01:35.try to ensure that there isn't financial crisis. Because of the
:01:36. > :01:37.last crisis, lenders are already asking a lot more questions than
:01:38. > :01:44.they used to. And that's without the new rules. Jade recently went to a
:01:45. > :01:49.bank to try to get her first mortgage. She says that rather than
:01:50. > :01:54.an interview, it ended up being more like an interrogation. They were
:01:55. > :02:00.asking me how often I went out, how much I spend. And I thought, why do
:02:01. > :02:05.they need to know all my personal details? But they wanted to know
:02:06. > :02:14.even more. Gym membership, cinema, how much I spend on food. I never
:02:15. > :02:18.had any commitments, if I went out with friends, if we detained at
:02:19. > :02:24.home. It was crazy, they wanted to know everything. Those who work in
:02:25. > :02:28.the mortgage business are worried about long delays and fewer loans,
:02:29. > :02:33.but they say the new system isn't all bad news. The positive impact
:02:34. > :02:36.will be that it will assure appropriate lending, that people are
:02:37. > :02:40.only borrowing what they can afford to pay back. And that means being
:02:41. > :02:50.prepared to answer a lot more questions. And deafness Sery, to
:02:51. > :02:54.make wax. -- and if necessary, to make cutbacks.
:02:55. > :02:57.A 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been charged in
:02:58. > :03:00.connection with a drugs seizure in south Belfast. Herbal cannabis worth
:03:01. > :03:03.?75,000 was found during a police search operation in the area. Both
:03:04. > :03:06.are due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
:03:07. > :03:08.A deal has been tabled to buy Northern Ireland's biggest
:03:09. > :03:11.entertainment venue, the Odyssey Pavilion in Belfast. The prospective
:03:12. > :03:14.buyers are the cinema operators Omniplex, who say they would make it
:03:15. > :03:22.less geared towards bars and nightclubs. Here's our business
:03:23. > :03:28.correspondent Julian O'Neill. Pavilion part of the Odyssey has a
:03:29. > :03:32.tag of ?10 million. This offer from Omniplex is believed to fall short
:03:33. > :03:36.of that. But the company is also willing to commit much-needed funds
:03:37. > :03:41.for refurbishment. The family owned Irish firm operates cinemas on both
:03:42. > :03:46.sides of the border, and in Northern Ireland is on some thing of an
:03:47. > :03:51.investment splurge. That could now involve a prime piece of Belfast
:03:52. > :03:55.real estate. We want to integrate. We're not going in there just to sit
:03:56. > :04:00.around. We want to make a move on it and make it work. The Odyssey
:04:01. > :04:05.pavilion has been up for sale for two years, but its problems stretch
:04:06. > :04:08.back further. In 2010 it was placed into administration. The bank
:04:09. > :04:13.stepped in and took control because of financial problems engulfing its
:04:14. > :04:17.original developer. The pavilion with its bars and clubs is a popular
:04:18. > :04:23.nightspot, but it has had its share of negative headlines. The Omniplex
:04:24. > :04:26.says it would change things. We are not in the business of nightclubs,
:04:27. > :04:31.and we are not in the business of 2am falling out into the streets. We
:04:32. > :04:36.want to achieve a family friendly environment. But this deal still
:04:37. > :04:39.requires an important symmetry, the Odyssey trust, the board which
:04:40. > :04:44.manages the entire entertainment complex, which has yet to agree to
:04:45. > :04:47.it. A statement said the trust continues to monitor the sales
:04:48. > :04:50.process, and it is most concerned this important element of the
:04:51. > :04:54.Odyssey is regenerated as soon as possible.
:04:55. > :04:59.The Odyssey trust is due to consider the offer next month. Only then will
:05:00. > :05:04.it be known if the Odyssey's long search for a buyer is finally over.
:05:05. > :05:09.The Police are appealing for witnesses to a hate crime in south
:05:10. > :05:12.Belfast yesterday when a 23-year-old man was stabbed. He was attacked as
:05:13. > :05:16.he walked into Fane Street off the Lisburn Road at around half past ten
:05:17. > :05:20.in the morning. Two men in their twenties shouted racist abuse. One
:05:21. > :05:24.of them then stabbed the victim in the leg.
:05:25. > :05:29.Four men have been arrested after a series of burglaries during the
:05:30. > :05:31.early hours of this morning. Two vehicles were stolen in separate
:05:32. > :05:35.incidents in Summerhill Court in North Belfast and at Nutts Corner.
:05:36. > :05:36.Other burglaries, or attempts, were made in Newtownabbey, Jordanstown
:05:37. > :05:45.and Carrickfergus. A County Down family who have been
:05:46. > :05:48.plagued by an infestation of rats say they're at their wits' end.
:05:49. > :05:53.They've told BBC Newsline some of them are the size of small dogs.
:05:54. > :06:00.There are pictures of the vermin in our next report from Mervyn Jess.
:06:01. > :06:06.Nobody wants a wrapped in their house. The Mackenzie family have had
:06:07. > :06:14.nearly 60 since their infestation problem began four years ago. I
:06:15. > :06:21.said, let's get a torch. I went up to the loft, and a rat. Or a
:06:22. > :06:29.miniature dog! I have caught 59 to date. Even the family's Jack Russell
:06:30. > :06:37.has done her bit, but still the problem persists. Despite extensive
:06:38. > :06:41.searches around this garden area, no obvious rat holes have been found,
:06:42. > :06:47.so so far, the main suspect in all of this is this extension to the
:06:48. > :06:51.house. This was built over ten years ago on top of the existing manhole
:06:52. > :06:56.covers, and it is thought that perhaps that is how the rats are
:06:57. > :07:02.getting in, accessing the cavity walls of the house and going up
:07:03. > :07:05.through pipes and into the attic. The Housing executive has been out
:07:06. > :07:21.to take a look at the problem, and in a statement it says:
:07:22. > :07:26.And environmental health expert is due to visit the home next week as
:07:27. > :07:29.the search for an answer to this rodent problem goes on, and all the
:07:30. > :07:38.family can do is to continue laying track. -- traps. Tributes have been
:07:39. > :07:41.paid to one of Glasgow Rangers' greatest ever players, who's died.
:07:42. > :07:45.Sandy Jardine, who played over 600 times for the club, lost his battle
:07:46. > :07:48.with cancer aged 65. He was part of the club's European triumph in 1972,
:07:49. > :08:01.and also played 35 times for his country. He was one of the great
:08:02. > :08:08.Rangers men. He was my hero for 35-year is. I followed Rangers all
:08:09. > :08:14.my life. He was one of the best players I have seen. He was still
:08:15. > :08:16.working hard for the club even when he retired.
:08:17. > :08:22.And in football, Derry City drew 1-1 with UCD in tonight's Airtricity
:08:23. > :08:23.Premier Division match. Now time for the weekend weather
:08:24. > :08:34.forecast, and here's Cecilia Daly. Good evening. It is a bit of a mixed
:08:35. > :08:38.picture this weekend. There will be some rain around, but overall, there
:08:39. > :08:42.will be more dry weather than wet stuff. We have some rain at the
:08:43. > :08:49.moment, and that will continue to edge its way northwards. Could be
:08:50. > :08:52.quite heavy for a while. We are looking at some rain for a while on
:08:53. > :08:57.Saturday morning, but don't worry, because things will improve as the
:08:58. > :09:00.day goes on from the south. To begin with, quite cloudy and breezy, with
:09:01. > :09:05.rain edging northwards, some of which could be quite heavy. But
:09:06. > :09:09.brightening up a hind it, and the afternoon will be brighter with some
:09:10. > :09:12.sunshine. There will also be some sunshine across the Irish Midlands,
:09:13. > :09:19.in southern areas of Ireland, it will be cool , cloudy and wet.
:09:20. > :09:23.Elsewhere across Scotland, England and Wales, it will have in very wet
:09:24. > :09:27.through the night, and will slowly become a little drier and bright as
:09:28. > :09:33.the day goes on, although this North Sea coast will become cold and
:09:34. > :09:41.misty. The breeze is in the East tomorrow, with a top temperature in
:09:42. > :09:45.the West to 15 or 16 Celsius. On Sunday, there will be a few showers
:09:46. > :09:53.around, especially in the West, and a cool breeze against . It stays
:09:54. > :09:56.fairly settled as we head into the new week, but it looks like the
:09:57. > :09:58.middle part of next week will bring some further rain.
