:00:00. > :00:13.Hello and welcome to BBC Newsline. A judge has described as a danger to

:00:14. > :00:17.the public a Tyrone teenager who shot and killed his father. Sean

:00:18. > :00:20.Hackett was told today he'll serve at least ten years before he is

:00:21. > :00:23.considered eligible for release. He was cleared of murdering his father

:00:24. > :00:25.Aloysius - but convicted of manslaugher on the grounds of

:00:26. > :00:31.diminished responsibility. Julian Fowler reports.

:00:32. > :00:34.diminished responsibility. Julian father has been given a life

:00:35. > :00:36.sentence, and told he will serve at least ten years before he is

:00:37. > :00:38.considered eligible for release. least ten years before he is

:00:39. > :00:41.Sean Hackett had been cleared of murdering his father Aloysius, but

:00:42. > :00:43.was convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished

:00:44. > :00:47.responsibility. He belief branded as delusional by the judge. He first

:00:48. > :00:50.tried to strangle his mother before shooting his father Aloysius twice

:00:51. > :00:53.in the head in their home in Augher. The judge said that

:00:54. > :00:55.in the head in their home in Augher. strong and powerful, reloading the

:00:56. > :00:58.rifle, shooting three times and not stopping until his father was dead.

:00:59. > :01:00.A jury cleared Sean Hackett of murder, but he was convicted of

:01:01. > :01:09.manslaughter on murder, but he was convicted of

:01:10. > :01:12.diminished responsibility. The teenager was suffering from a

:01:13. > :01:20.depressive disorder which impaired his judgement. Sean Hackett showed

:01:21. > :01:25.little emotion. The judge said he was indifferent and lacked remorse

:01:26. > :01:27.for what he had done. While the exact diagnosis was unclear, his

:01:28. > :01:35.mental well-being was deteriorating and he was at risk of developing

:01:36. > :01:39.schizophrenia. The judge said he posed a danger to the public for an

:01:40. > :01:43.unpredictable length of time. Sean Hackett's family have stood by him.

:01:44. > :01:50.Their mother comforted the siblings as they wept. The judge said no one

:01:51. > :01:53.could fail to be moved by their heartfelt loss, and while they were

:01:54. > :01:58.aware something was wrong with Sean Hackett, there was no sense of anger

:01:59. > :02:02.or grievance on their part. Sean Hackett had obtained the rifle from

:02:03. > :02:10.a friend telling him it would be used to shoot rabbits. Ronan Mulrine

:02:11. > :02:12.had been in awe of the GAA star. He was given a one-year suspended

:02:13. > :02:15.prison sentence for possessing the gun and ammunition in suspicious

:02:16. > :02:18.circumstances. The judge said the killing was a bizarre and delusional

:02:19. > :02:20.act but Sean Hackett failed to appreciate that he would lose his

:02:21. > :02:31.father forever. Two groups of families bereaved

:02:32. > :02:33.during the Troubles were told today the government will not hold

:02:34. > :02:38.Independent investigations into what happened. Relatives of those who

:02:39. > :02:41.died in Ballymurphy in 1971, and in the La Mon bombing seven years

:02:42. > :02:44.later, received a letter from the Secretary of State this morning. As

:02:45. > :02:54.Conor Macauley reports, there was an angry reaction from the Ballymurphy

:02:55. > :02:59.families. There is your letter, to read the

:03:00. > :03:05.layers. This is what we think of it. It's a load of nonsense.

:03:06. > :03:18.A stark message for the Secretary of State by the families of those

:03:19. > :03:20.killed in Ballymurphy. The Parachute Regiment was

:03:21. > :03:27.responsible. Garrisoned in a former school in the area in 1971, they had

:03:28. > :03:34.opened fire. The killings coincided with the introduction of internment.

:03:35. > :03:40.11 people died around here. Four of them were shot on the spot. The fire

:03:41. > :03:45.was directed from an army barracks. On that same night, a further two

:03:46. > :03:53.people were killed in a field behind the barracks, one of them a local

:03:54. > :03:57.feel -- one of them a local priest. The families had wanted an enquiry

:03:58. > :04:03.which investigated all documents related to the shootings. Today they

:04:04. > :04:07.were told they were not getting it. In a letter, Theresa Villiers said

:04:08. > :04:13.the balance of public interest is not in favour of establishing an

:04:14. > :04:17.Independent review. What would you say to the Secretary of State? I

:04:18. > :04:19.would say if it was your brother, would you think it was in the public

:04:20. > :04:24.interest? If it was your brother that was

:04:25. > :04:28.murdered on the street. That was told he was a gunman when you know

:04:29. > :04:34.and it has been proven that he was not holding anything.

:04:35. > :04:37.The families of those killed in the 1978I read bombing of the La Mon

:04:38. > :04:43.House Hotel have thought a similar enquiry. 12 people were murdered

:04:44. > :04:48.their, and amongst them Andrea Nelson's parents. We are

:04:49. > :04:51.disappointed because we feel that we deserve answers to what happened at

:04:52. > :04:57.Le Monde. We feel that we need answers. They

:04:58. > :05:02.are currently being potentially politically blocked by people

:05:03. > :05:10.involved who are now important to the peace process.

:05:11. > :05:12.On the Ballymurphy tellings, the Secretary of State says an ongoing

:05:13. > :05:16.inquest reveals that the soldiers acted outside lawful top the police

:05:17. > :05:20.and prosecutors will decide whether they ought to be pursued.

:05:21. > :05:24.The Assembly has voted against the introduction of same-sex marriage

:05:25. > :05:29.for the third time. The Sinn Fein motion was defeated by 51 votes to

:05:30. > :05:32.43 in a debate earlier today. A former Church treasurer has been

:05:33. > :05:35.given an 18 month jail sentence suspended for three years - after

:05:36. > :05:42.admitting stealing ?60,000 from the Culmore parish in the North-West.

:05:43. > :05:46.The court was told how the theft had a disastrous effect on the morale of

:05:47. > :05:53.the Church of Ireland congregation. Here's our North-West reporter,

:05:54. > :05:59.Keiron Tourish. 27-year-old Lyndsey Bredin from

:06:00. > :06:04.Primity Cresent admitted 19 counts of theft from the Church of Ireland

:06:05. > :06:11.in Culmore. An investigation found that she was writing cheques from

:06:12. > :06:15.church funds to herself. She paid for weekends away and a cat for

:06:16. > :06:22.?4000. Some of the money was for a new roof on the Church in Donegal.

:06:23. > :06:27.The judge said that as well as stealing the money, Lyndsey Bredin

:06:28. > :06:31.destroyed all records of the messages given with the donations by

:06:32. > :06:35.parishioners. He said the effect of her actions on the church was very

:06:36. > :06:41.significant. It was a serious cause of offending

:06:42. > :06:45.and breach of trust. He said she had put in jeopardy plans to reroof the

:06:46. > :06:50.church building. He noted that not a penny had been repaid by her, nor

:06:51. > :06:54.was there ever any likely prospects. The judge suspended her 18 month

:06:55. > :07:02.jail sentence for three years with great hesitation.

:07:03. > :07:04.Two former Anglo Irish Bank chiefs found guilty of making loans to

:07:05. > :07:07.illegally prop up the found guilty of making loans to

:07:08. > :07:10.price will not go to jail. Pat Whelan and Willie McAteer walked

:07:11. > :07:13.from court today in Dublin after the judge ruled they should serve

:07:14. > :07:16.community service. The judge said jail would be unjust as they

:07:17. > :07:19.believed they had acted lawfully. Sean Fitzpatrick, the bank's former

:07:20. > :07:22.chairman, was previously cleared of illegally supporting the bank's

:07:23. > :07:25.share price. Now looking ahead to a new series

:07:26. > :07:28.starting on BBC Newsline tomorrow. We'll be looking at how the booming

:07:29. > :07:31.film industry here is transforming our economy - bringing millions of

:07:32. > :07:34.pounds into Northern Ireland and employing hundreds of local people -

:07:35. > :07:37.a new entertainment economy. The series starts with man of the

:07:38. > :07:41.moment, North Down actor Jamie Dornan, who's been filming here.

:07:42. > :07:56.He's been telling us what it's like to be back home.

:07:57. > :08:06.It's lovely to be here. I have a different sense of

:08:07. > :08:06.It's lovely to be here. I have a appreciation for it, not that I

:08:07. > :08:16.didn't appreciation for it, not that I

:08:17. > :08:22.approach the city differently approach the city differently and

:08:23. > :08:24.get more for it. -- more from it. Time for a weather forecast now with

:08:25. > :08:26.Cecilia. Time for a weather forecast now with

:08:27. > :08:34.day of the year so far. Time for a weather forecast now with

:08:35. > :08:39.been a little cooler along the east coast because of this mist and sea

:08:40. > :08:41.fog. For most of us it is a dry night. A little bit

:08:42. > :08:46.fog. For most of us it is a dry countryside with temperatures

:08:47. > :08:49.falling to five degrees will stop on Wednesday we are looking at a misty

:08:50. > :08:50.start but it should brighten up fairly readily through the morning.

:08:51. > :08:56.start but it should brighten up That mist and low clouds disbursing

:08:57. > :09:01.and leaving us with some sunshine. It should start to feel a bit

:09:02. > :09:07.warmer. There is an area of cloud which will come northwards towards

:09:08. > :09:10.us later on tomorrow. It will bring some showery rain to south-west

:09:11. > :09:15.England during the afternoon. Another front over north-east

:09:16. > :09:21.Scotland will bring some light rain but also much cooler air.

:09:22. > :09:23.Temperatures in the single figures. Otherwise a scattering of showers,

:09:24. > :09:27.some of which could be quite heavy over the North of England.

:09:28. > :09:33.Temperatures will reach highs of 20 degrees. Temperatures on Friday not

:09:34. > :09:40.as high as today but still decent. Cloud will edge into the Western

:09:41. > :09:44.tomorrow and into the night. On Thursday we have to front sitting on

:09:45. > :09:48.top of us which will bring rain. That could lead to a frost on Friday

:09:49. > :09:50.morning but at least the sunshine will be back. Gradually it will warm

:09:51. > :09:57.up again over the weekend. That's it for now. You can keep up

:09:58. > :10:00.to date with News Online and follow this programme on Facebook and

:10:01. > :10:02.Twitter. From BBC Newsline, good night.
